No need to stop on the freeway, we came up the side road and easily accessed cache through gap in the fence. However i agree with previous logs. Placement needs to be moved outside of Freeway reserve

27-Mar-12
This cache is in a dangerous location. It requires people to stop on the freeway which according to the VicRoads website http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/Home/SafetyAndRules/RoadRules/Freeways.htm the Road Safety Rules 2009 state it is illegal to stop on a freeway.

I think the cache also contravenes 1.4: "Geocaches are placed so that the surrounding environment is safe from both intentional or unintentional harm. Keep both natural and human-made objects safe. No object or property may be altered to provide a hiding place, clue, or means of logging a find." Some idiot has cut a hole in the fence allowing access to GZ from Specimen Gully Rd. The hole allows wildlife (a roo was spotted by cacher PrincessDiala as mentioned in their log) and roo droppings at GZ is mentioned in another log by Team Ladava.

I've included a photo of the hole in the fence. And I have notified VicRoads to get the hole mended.

Now that I've done this cache I'm concerned at how dangerous it is. How did this get approved when it's on a freeway reserve? Accessing it from the freeway is very dodgy. Then there's the issue of the hole in the fence and wildlife getting through it onto the freeway. Please toyahmary, archive this cache before someone gets hurt.

You know how it is.
You have a target to reach.
Ours was 1500 by the end of the year.
Mrs Riddell thought that it was a good idea to go caching after work on one of the longest days of the year.
She planned to go where there was lots of caches and Bendigo region was chosen as a likely target area.
We departed Riddells Creek at around 5pm bound for the goldfields.
This was an adventure.
We went the long way around to get this one and accessed the cache via "the hole in the fence"

Out on a trip out west to find my secret santa gift in a nearby town.
Stopped by this cache on route.
Saw a kangaroo on the wrong side of the fence, not sure how it got there, but it didn't use 'the hole' to get back though.
Cache found quickly once the hole in the fence was located.
Thanks toyahmary for this cache.

Found 16:55, in the company of Muzza. We were really not sure about this cache, as it is between the Free-way and the fence designed to keep animals from straying on to said motor way, and we were only able to access the cache as someone has carefully cut a hole in the previously mentioned fence Twisted

TNLN, CSI=0, thanks toyahmary.

Nice easy find with Biggles Bear, but similarly concerned at its location off the freeway. Thanks for the cache.

On a visit to Bendigo area for the weekend & back to Melbourne today! Very nice hide in a pleasant area.

Thanks for bringing me to this location!

I would recommend all members use the hole in the fence opposed to stopping on the freeway.........

In appreciation of the effort that you went to in your cache/hide! Cool

Woops, went too far. Now cold and windy so sent the men back along the freeway to find this one while we kept lookout for the law. TFTC

31-Jul-11
Found by Team Ladava around 10.30 am in transit to Swan Hill for a niece’s 21st. birthday bash.
Plenty of room adjacent to gz to safely pull well off the freeway and the find was soon made with the screening of the shrubbery
I was rather amazed at the amount of, what I believe is kangaroo poo in the area and yet I saw no evidence of dead kangaroos on the freeway.
Took nothing
Left TB
Our thanks to toyahmary for the cache.

Hmmm, it is illegal to stop on freeways in Australia, and we like consider ourselves law abiding...its amazing what some people will do for a cache find!

Forth for the day, and a great hiding spot. Lots of possibilities! Smile
Thanks for the cache.

12-May-11
Approached as per previous finder. Hole in the fence at the cache...hmm...this really concerns me as if it was already there all finders could have been directed to road access (and not Freeway), but if it has been cut especially to access the cache by someone, well that's vandalism. SLTNLN TFTC

Find #351 Found on 12/03/11 at 8:15 PM by Crazy Paul after we'd been to Melbourne to see Top Gear Live. Drove past this one to start with and had to come around and approach it again. We were a bit worried about pulling up on the side of the freeway though so we made Emma (Emma's JAM) pretend she was throwing up behind the bushes while really searching for the cache. She couldn't find it though and Crazy Paul made the find. TNLNSL TFTC toyahmary.

Collected this one while heading up to Bendigo for the Flash Mob and Marong meet and greet events. Stopped on the side of the Calder and headed up into the scrub and began the search. Took quite a while to locate the cache as there were many hiding spots around the site. Thanks for the hide.

I was a bit anxious about this one due to stopping on the freeway and also once at GZ I was terrified of a snake popping out to grab me. After a search I had the well hidden cache. Thanks.

24-Dec-10
Reperio at 1720. Last one for the day on the way to Castlemaine for Christmas, and after pulling over on the side of the road, I made the quick dash up to GZ to find plenty of hiding spots, but luckily it was in the second spot I checked.

Gratias.

Nice quick find due to spot-on co-ords, after stopping on the way to Echuca via Bendigo.
Can't believe this hasn't been found for a few months, really nice spot.
My thanks to Toyahmary for the effort put into placing this cache.

Darn it, wrong side of fence...
So stopped off on the way back to Bendigo after caching in the area.
So far 26 loggers who haven't been questioned or booked ???
I suppose it adds to the adventure ...

4th find on our cleanout Faraday tour, would of made second had Hanseeka Husband not gone to the safe side of the fence first, but oh well took off to do two others and on the return trip to Bendigo was able to stop on the wide section in front of the cache to retrieve it, there was a weird red car both times we stopped with no-one inside and all windows down.. we named it the ghost car haha. TNLN SL Thanks Kaztrekka.

20-Mar-10
Found it,
Not the safest place for a cache, I'm pretty sure it's illegal to park on the side of the freeway unless there is an emergency, luckily there where no police officers around so we where able to make the find then return to the car, I wonder what people driving past would have thought when they saw us running up the side of the freeway!

Thanks for the find...

Um, we approached from the safe side not knowing it wasn't there. A bit of a drive later and we were able to grab the cache in the hopes that we wouldn't get booked.
Always adds a bit of fun and excitement to a find.
Took nothing, left nothing.
Thanks toyahmary for this cache experience today.

Not sure of the legality of planting a cache within the freeway reserve where it's emergency stopping only - but it was a quick find and I was soon back in the car. Thanks.

#66 I suggest future hunters park a bit further up the road in the safe parking bay rather than stop at the roadside as previous loggers have done - a lot safer. Took the silver croc TB and will release him in Melb to continue his race with the Blue Lizard.
Thanks for the cache.

This was cache # 2 of 41 for the day, in the company of Alansee on our tour of Bendigo. I assumed this one was going to be in a way side stop and was quite surprised when alansee pulled up at the side of the freeway, thankfully we had a nice quick find and were on our way with out to much fuss. My thanks to toyahmary for the cache.

21-Sep-09
Found in the company of Acts2youthgroup on a pretty good caching day all round. The only thing wrong with this cache is that you have to stop on the freeway, which is a bit illegal I think, not to mention dangerous. Unfortunately I don't think that this cache should stay here for that reason.

There is a similar one not far away but at least there is a proper stopping place for that one.

This is one cache that we should have read the previous logs before we got here as we traveled past gz to get off the freeway and then headed down the old road to locate the cache. Unfortunately like others we found ourselves on the wrong side of the fence, had a bit of a look around hoping that the GPS was playing up, this wasn't the case so we had to get back on the freeway and head back to where we had already passed once. We were hoping that there were no officers of the law around, we pulled off and fortunately made a quick find, signed the log, rehid it and got underway without having to answer any embarrassing questions
Thanks toyahmary for the cache

01-Aug-09
It took me a while to get on to the right section of road, I didn't think a cache next to a freeway would be published and so made my way to the other side of the fence. Oops! Turned around, drove a few more kilometres, turned around, then waved as passing motorists tooted the guy they thought was stopping to urinate!

Cheers,

R - B

First for the day and the trip incidently. We were on our way to to the Riverland for a few days and this was our first foray out into the cold and sleet. Glad to jump back into a warm car I must say.
Thanks toyahmary

First find on our way north to the Riverland.
Pouring with rain and windy and a boggy stroll to the cache which refused at first to give up its hiding place.
Decided after then to not stop until the sun came out.

This was the start of our Riverland trip, I had just come off a 12 hour night shift, and was dozing in the passenger seat next to Chewin'. Hopping out of the car into the sleet and wind was a very fast way to wake up. Smile
As it does in the rain, it took a bit longer to find, but was soon signed, and we slipped back down the slop.
Thanks, Robmc.

A quick roadside stop here although the the dirt was a little soft after all the rain. Ran back to get the cache and found it, however the container was full of water. The log was totally soaked, but we managed to scawl our name on a very wet page. A bit of maintenance is needed here now. Thanks toyamary for the cache.

2TF - We needed to evacuate our house for about an hour and, knowing that this cache was the only one in this area that wasn't a smiley for us, we thought we'd better take steps to remedy the situation.
Another neat hide created by toyahmary. Given the number of potential concealment areas and the "small" cache size, we thought we might be in for a long search but the sharp eyes of MrP very soon had the cache location sighted and a good sized container was quickly in hand.
We are sure this cache will get a lot of visits from out of area travelling cachers as they journey past. Might even be suitable as a TB Hotel?

9.40pm
Found by Roma and Max.
This proved to be a very good place for a hide on the new, and very busy freeway, even at this time of day!
Ample parking well off the highway, a search area protected from passing interest, and a ready made collection of possible hiding places.
Relying on the accuracy we have come to expect from your previous hides had us searching right on top of the object we sought.
We signed the log and made no exchange.
Thank you again toyahmary for another well hidden and decent sized container.
