Nice location with some history. A little difficult to get as it is close to neighbouring property with clear view. Had to track around to get to it unseen. Thanks for the cache.
Nice walk out to this one. Looks like there is a new house where they thought the rest of the burials were, interesting. TFTC
What an amazing place and view literally where time stands still for those that rest. TFTC
What an amazing location to find a cache.Thank you so much for bringing us to the great piece of lost history
Would never have known about this convict era site without a cache in place. However our GPS said 45 metres out, but Mrs rhubarbroad wasn't stumped by this and found a likely hiding spot which proved correct. TFTC and bringing us on a nice walk in very pleasant weather conditions.
Don't really know why it's taken us so long to getting around to finding this one! I think every time we've passed by here we've either overshot the parking or it's been too late in the day and we've been heading home. Today we finally got around to making the short walk out here. An interesting location! TFTC!Cheers, The Hancock Clan
Make sure to follow the path around the LHS of the peninsula (looks like a 4wd track). I walked up the driveway and had a... um... interesting conversation with the homeowners. TFTC[I'm logging this a few months after finding the cache, but I have photo evidence if the CO wants to get in contact]
After parking near the highway I did the walk to this interesting location. It was a historical place I would have never visited without the incentive of a cache to find. After the walk and exploring the area the cache was a quick find. Worthy of a favourite point.
Ignored the warning and did the rest on foot TFTH
Visiting from WA, did a loop down to Port Author today and made a number of finds. Thanks to the CO’s for the placement of these geocaches for our enjoyment.

Ignoring the road closed sign we parked near the gateway to the new house and walked in. An interesting bit of history to add to the walk and a cache at the end. TFTC
A perfect hidey hole, but its not there. Its in snother one. Lovely walk. Workers busy at the new house. TFTC
For a few visits i passed this one by coz the road at the start to this one said it was closed so i ignored it but knowing it was still gettable decided to properly investigate if i could actually get to it. It was indeed possible and there is actually an old graveyard and info board there near the wooden stairs
Once at the stairs i ascended them to see the old gravestones and then made my way back to the hide.
The cache and contents are in great order [^]

Why here ? Why not …. It was a lovely walk in and an interesting location on the point. I think I have only been in here on one other occasion, many moons ago. It didn’t leave much of an impression then, but I’m particularly impressed today. Have been investigating some of the old jetties in the area and have been reading about this one, so there was some interesting info on board.
There is a new house being built on the boundary and the builders were hard at work. Wandered around looking nonchalant and noticed some familiar local names on the gravestones. GZ was nicely hidden from the construction site by a tree, so nothing given away. Oops! First rule of the geocacher …. always take a writing stick! First time I’ve had to send photo evidence to CO. Thanks for the walk and the interesting location OldSaint.

What a beautiful place. Hopefully they are resting peacefully now. Thank you for this cache
My favourite cache so far today. Well worth stopping and exploring. Rocking the local history. Favourite point from me. TFTC TNLNSL.
What a find. Loved the history here. Who would have known without this cache. Thank you. Terrific.
Found this one, not what I was expecting when I walked up the stairs... unfortunately forgot our pen (in the car) will write in it next time. (Have photo to prove we found it)
Whats a stunning spot! Just the peace and quiet needed after an amazing fast boat tour!
With TaurusSix I came here and found the cache - and a lot of other photographic opportunities
Didn’t wake the dead this trip!!
Nice hidden spot, thank you for guiding me here TFTC

I had over looked this one in the past as I remember being down here for a work trip and didnt have the time to get this one, but today even aftera bit of a walk we made good time to discover why this was here!
Thanks for the cache.
First proper day caching since I got back from the Mega on the big island, great to be back out caching on common ground.
Today it was down to the Tasman peninsula to find some new caches and some old ones I had missed in my past visits, but as just about always I leave something for the next time

Why here? The answer is buried there. Found after a bit of scouting around. Tftc MattyH from Tassie
The road into the point is signed as Closed (although would still be passible) so I walked in, and up, and around. A nice quick find, and not the first visitor for the morning according to the log.
Thanks for placing a cache here OldSaint, it's a good history lesson, and well worth the visit.
I had to drop off geoSonE at White Beach for a scout camp last night and with a pickup tomorrow, I decided to stay nearby for the weekend to do some caching.
This morning I am targeting Taranna to SaltWater River (Coal Mines).

May the fourth be with you.

Great spot for a cache. We loved finding these off the tourist route spots.

Thanks for the cache OldSaint. RLD4963 and I were off for a short stay on the Tasman Peninsula, and as we headed to our accommodation, we stopped off to look for some caches along the way. This was a great little cache - enjoyed the stroll to GZ, and enjoyed the find. What a great spot - no signage that this place even exists, so thank you for placing a cache here so that we could discover this great little spot of history. RLD4963 had visited before, so it was up to me to reveal the find and luckily my geosenses found the cache nice and quickly. Really enjoyed this cache, a favourite from me.
Mr and Mrs banian's visit to Tasmania for a bit of a look around and a cache or two.
Parked before the rocks and walked to GZ, quick find while watching out for critters.
Signed log, TFTC OldSaint.

Fascinating place and a very interesting read. Not so sure about the terrain rating, don't think I'll get up the stairs in a wheelchair in my old age but do love the cache. Thanks OldSaint
An impressive historical spot, easily missed if it wasn’t for you placing this cache, that’s why it’s a favourite point for me. Found with S_38. TFTC
Found eventually after walking straight past ot twice. TFTC. Greetings from Adelaide. We are retracing some of the steps from pir honeymoon 50 yrs ago although we did not come here at the time. #897
Tassie Trip Day 141 - Out for a short drive after taking the wonderful boat ride around Tasman Island and the coast it was a real ripper of a trip and a great day.
Another great spot to stop and collect a smiley to add to the growing list of smiles.
Thanks OldSaint for placing this cache for us to find.

What a fascinating place with beautiful views. Log slightly damp but great hide. TFTC
Love this place and wouldn’t have known about it had it not been for the cache
Well yes we did get stumped - note to self check hint first. Wandered beach side and then found the lovely little road which led round to the stairs. Talk about brilliant views from here and history abounds Howzat we found the cache and we weren't run out either. Thanks OldSaint for the hide here
A great spot to take a wander and soak up some history [^]
There's no signage telling you how to get here,
or even that it is here ...
... until you arrive at the bottom of the stairs
The top of the stairs is where the real history is.
I could smell it
TFTC and wander.
Fave dance time

Well here would be as good a place as any and it taught us more about our history. A beautiful place with a great view.
Amazing bit of history. Those poor people. Thanks for bringing us to a spot we would never have known about.
Hi there OldSaint.
We found your cache **"Why Here?"** at 9:47:00 L today. (This makes our grand total 18777).
Today was Day 1 of our exploration of the Tasman Peninsula. Our GPS took us down many dirt roads, many of which turned out to be "private" - necessitating a prompt three point turn nearby. Nevertheless, we thoroughly enjoyed our trip & ended up finding a variety of container types, and sizes hidden along our route. Our cache count was 3 caches today, with 0 DNF's.
Wow: a cemetary here! Thanks for placing this cache, without geocaching as our guide we would never have found this interesting place.
**Coordinate Accuracy:** We found this cache around 2m from where the GPS said we should be looking.
**Cache Condition:** The container and log book are in good shape.
**Took:** Nothing.
**Left:** A Smiley Badge.
Thanks for the hunt today,
Regards
Ian & Penny.

Found while exploring the peninsula. A great way to explore: through the eye of a cacher. This is a location I would never have discovered on my own. Thanks for bringing me here and TFTC. A fav point
Staying in Port Arthur for 10 days and love the location and all the history, a few caches, what more could you ask for. TFTC, TNLN
My ancestors arrived on the same ship as these poor lost souls. May they rest in peace.
Two Norwegian travellers on vacation/geocaching in Australia. Travelling by car from Brisbane to Adelaide with stops in interesting and not so interesting places. We have been travelling almost 5000 kilometers before we returned the car in Adelaide two weeks ago. Then we flew over to Hobart, hired a new car and will do a Tassie roundtrip the next 2 weeks. We have done the big highlights, Cradle mountain Nat. Park, the northern coast and the big cities. After Bruny Island we went to the Tasman Peninsula to visit Port Arthur and the convicts.
Today we took a trip out to the Coal Mines. Nice sunny weather.
Interesting story about the graveyard.

Found it!!! Easy find thanks to the hint! Didn't have a Pen to write in the book though took the trackable an replaced it with a toy aeroplane
Why here? Why not here?
Big sign at the end of the road leading to the logical parking spot saying it was closed but didn't hear any complaints.
The walk around the point was really nice, particularly since the rain had cleared up, and it was nice to see all the sea boss out on the water, including a fairly big mob of swans.
I have to confess i hadn't seen the description at this point to was surprised to see the sign at the bottom of the stairs and the cemetery at the top.
The wife on the other hand was on a mission to make the find and by the time i caught up she had the cache in hand and was going through the swag in there.
Thanks for taking us to another hidden beauty OldSaint, we left TB Pup and Black Beauty.

Such a peaceful area, looks like a awesome place to camp... Well except for its a cemetery!
We finally managed to stop and locate this cache today. It certainly left an impression. What a hidden gem of a spot, thanks for pointing it out to us. Deserves a favourite. TFTC
A cache with nearly forgotten history nearby[?]How good is that[^] What a story SL; TFTC oh, and a fav for all of the above
Travelling around Australia and spending a few months in Tasmania.
Last day today at Taranna so we set off to find a few more caches and visit the Coal Mines.
No problems finding the cache, shame we were back at the car before we realised we were missing our GPSr so we had to retrace our steps.
