Going after this cache starting from carpack at 18.00 tonight (Tuesday) if anybody wants to join me. Suddenly have an unexpected evening I have to be out of the house and a cache this close to home beckons.
Look for a guy with a yellow Garmin Etrex around his neck in the carpark - no car, as I live within a short walk.
Logged with the permission of the cache owner - who kindly accompanied me on this hunt and replaced quite a few firetacks.
Unfortunately when we finally got to ground zero, the cache was gone. The entire structure on which it was located has been demolished - quite impressively. Very little trace of it still exists.
Good evening's walk though, and very enjoyable company.

didn't realise this was a night cache till we got there. tried but failed. WILL BE BACK!
Never been this far into the reserve before & was amazed to see the magnificent views of the bay from the lookout........its was the job at hand that took me away from the views From here the Cache was in hand & signed shortly after. It appears as thou a hand full of tacks are missing.........perhaps I may have missed them.
Overall a fantastic night Cache with GEO-GF & Brother.......On the way we told a few scary stories to scare Geo-gf hee hee I was even scaring myself

Found @ 10.30pm Find #502
Had to go into Frankston this night, had been meaning to check out Riggers Revenge cache for quite some time, and since I was in the area I thought I might as well come here and have a look at this night cache
Had no trouble picking up the firer tacks and made my way around coarse easily enough, Although the trail was very vague in some parts (Obviously missing a few reflectors) Once I was on the second section and had past about 10 markers, I started checking each reflector more closely. On about the thirteenth one I noticed the tell tail marks Starruby had mentioned in his log and knew this was the last one. Soon after the cache was in hand
This was a great walk and the views at the different vantage points were fantastic, the effort that had gone into this cache was much appreciated
Cheers

After meeting up with hazey1 earlier in the evening, I joined with him to search for this one to mark my #400 find, so it needed to be a worthy one! hazey1 hadn't done it either so the partnership was struck.
This park now becoming quite familiar, I hadn't visited it in the dark for a while.
Despite having been ribbed by C@H and others about smelling really nice [:X] on these joint ventures, I doused myself in insect repellant once again - the mozzies are ravenous in this parkland. hazey1 gladly accepted a spray too.
We started out spotting the first firetack easily, but then it became a little more difficult. C@H needs to bring down some pruning shears to do a little maintenance. Many of the tacks are now obscured by healthy growth! We sent a short message to him outlining our grievances , but there was no response - where is the love we all shared the other night when chasing the "I went geocaching and all I got was ..." series together?
On we trudged - up and down yet more sandy dunes
Towards the end, after missing many more tacks, we sighted what appeared to be 3 firetacks close together - the final projection point? As we approached the marker, two of the firetacks ran away along a branch ... make that now 1 firetack and 2 possum eyes! After a little more aimless wandering we returned to this tack and possum, and looking closely at the firetack there appeared to be 2 small sap-seeping wounds in the tree, in close triangular proximity to the single tack
On a whim we ran the final projection from this point, and though still finding no further final tack, we found the cache hidden in what was now an obvious place at 00:10 hours
Another fun night out in good company, and a great cache to mark #400
Thanks Covert Hypnosis.

Hey Covert; may need to check some tacs are still in play, as it appears apart from overgrown trees; the final 3 are not in play which can be misleading…... Thanks for the cache.
TFTC> Joint find with Starruby and happy 400th find for Starruby. After meeting at a newbie in Mt Eliza; decided that we would go give this one a go. Arrived at start with torches in hand (yes as you know covert without full batteries, and off we went) It appears that many trees have grown since the placement of this cache with line of sight impaired, we continued our journey using common sense and find the tacks along the paths. After about an 1 of wondering through the pines we came to a spot that had one tack and two possum eyes looking back at us; we spent some time here walking down and up looking for the continuation of the track; but couldnt find, closer inspection of tree indicates 2 tacs are missing; so we used our caching logic projected and soon had in hand. Another great night out caching (found 00:15), look at all those new caches that appeared while we where in the middle of the bush; maybe next time:)
I will do a maintenance run in the next few nights on this one and replacing missing fire tacks. Well done Starruby hitting the #400 mark. Honored it was my cache.
After being somewhat disappointed with the other night cache down in Langwarrin (being over almost as soon as it was started), we decided to give this one a go.
Enjoyed it very much (we love night caches, have 2 of our own out in Adelaide ). Found some of the firetacks must be missing or grown over. This was particularly the case at one junction before the first WP where there was no indication which way to go, had to walk a fair way around a couple of bends before another was spotted, luckily on the track we picked first. After the 1st WP, followed on till we reached another major track and found ourselves at a dead end. Went up and down with no luck. As we hadn't intended to do this one on this night and it was quite late, we decided to finish up for the night.
The next morning we checked out the satellite image and saw another smaller track near where ours left off that we totally missed last night. Returned again that night and found that track. Had to enter it and walk down a bit before the reflector was seen, there is no indication from the main track that you should go this way. Followed this along happy to see more reflectors. That is, until we reached another junction. Saw a reflector nearby that seemed to indicate which direction we should take, but that was the last reflector we saw. Followed that track up and went down every branch off of it but found no more. Thought that last could have been WP2 but was only a single on a slim small tree and couldn't see any on the ground.
Oh well, enjoyed what we did anyway and enjoyed the views as well. Will try again next christmas or when we are back in Melbourne again.

Thanks Covert for adding to my first "night cache" experience, great set up, I hope I can create one that meets the standard that this has set.. the planning cogs are turning.. TNLN SL #508
Tristan the Travel Turtle Tag (TTQWTC) has come for a flying visit back in time.
My first find on our Tuesday night-time adventure with Philipp, themd, edmil and Tatty. (I had already found the previous two on a prior occasion.)
Stumbling around paths at night is always cool, even better in good company.
I'm not the greatest fan of walking on sand... and uphill haha but the views were awesome and I was kicking myself for leaving the camera inside the vehicle.
I only saw a few of the tacks at the start, and then I was too busy huffing and puffing and trying not to fall over to keep searching for them. (Ok - so I'm unfit....)
And I'm terrible with projecting waypoints (must have fluked it the weekend before) and it was good to get some more practise doing it.
Many thanks for Covert for meeting us in the car park and the others in the group for the company shared on the night.

Found tonight on the night caching group Philipp organised, thanks for a great night!
This was the third cache of the night, however second log for me as I had already completed the second cache. We met up with covert at the carpark and went for a nice long stroll in the park. This was a good one, lots of great views and so many twists and turns, it is no wonder some groups have gotten lost along the way.
It was great to meet you all tonight, thanks again for a good night out

Found by edmil as part of a night caching run set up by Phillip on the GCA froums.
What a great night and this cache was a great one to finish the night of with.
I'd had my doubts about the weather when I had first arrived in Karingal to meet up with the team as it was absolutely bucketing down. However once we had finished dinner the weather had eased and by the time we attempted this one it was quite clear and it turned out to be a pleasant walk.
After finishing the 'Langwarrin by torchlight' Cache we headed down to this one. I was a bit concerned about the navigation skills of the group as we seemed to be going about getting to the parking area the long way round. My GPS had told me to take a turn and then told me to do a few turn around when possible and the distance seemed to be getting further and further away but we ended up in the right spot.
Covert was there to greet us or was it just to watch as we stumbled blindly in the darkness looking for his trail.
Well what can I say about this cache experience - not a lot I can only recommend that you go and give it a go. It's fantastic, Views, challenge, exercise and wild life it's got the lot.
The night turned out to be clear enough to get some great views, I had my good Camera in the car but had decided not to lug it along in the dark - a pity as I missed some great shots.
When we finally reached GZ the cache was found, but took longer than it really should have. Logs was signed but no swap was made.
I dipped our special Micro Compass Rose Geocoin in for the caching experience. This coin travel with Maddie and I and is reserved for those caches that offer something special or different and this one definitely fitted the bill. Thanks Covert for a great night cache, it is definitely worth the experience, one I am tempted to do again just for the fun of it

I had a feeling someone might have their GPS on and wonder what I was up to, that was why I made the comment about avoiding the big loop if we used another entrance but it wasn't suitable this time. I took the route which has a lot less traffic lights and the higher speed limits, makes up for the slight curve where the road goes around
[purple]iGude[/purple]
I also wondered why we took another route but I just guessed that Tatty knows what she's doing and that was about right As mentioned we met covert in the car-park which was due to pinghat not really a coincidence. With so many eyes it wasn't hard to find the cache and we still took some time to enjoy the views from the dunes and have nice chats along the way.
It is a cool location for a nightcache! Keep it up so that maps.nightcaching.org will get way more icons than it has now.

After the previous night cach,e 5 of us headed onto to here to complete this.
Gladly we were met by the owner whom gave me a few tips on mapping as well as following us thru to the completion of the cache.
A great walk, we took in some great views and even logged a trig point.
TFTC coverthypnosis and nice to meet you.

Found @ 2230.
Found with ggkof on our usual Tuesday night caching expedition. This is a simply brilliant cache. A very enjoyable walk/slog through the thick sand following the firetacks had us at GZ after some time for an easy find. Very highly recommended!

Found @ 22:30 with davroy tonight. One of the best caches I've done and had a great time doing it. Managed to find the fire tacks and do they projections without any problems. A longer walk than I expected and quite hard in the soft sand sometimes, but hey, we can all do with the exercise. TFTC TNLNSL
Replaced missing firetacks. Next cacher should pay caution to project from where 2 firetacks are close together because I my of placed some more fire tacks not far from existing ones, there hard to see in the day. The first projection point has the firetacks about 1 inch apart from one another. If you find them a foot or so apart it is not the projection point. I will try to get there one night soon and double check it's function at night.
I still have the serial cable for the Pilot PDA I left in the cache if the person who picked it up wants it. It is good someone could see value in it.
DSE have been doing some burning off in the area and some fire tacks need replacing. I hope to get to this soon.
The geokiddies love a night cache.
After we left the geokombi in the pines estate at 9:00 on a Saturday night (!), we ventured off with torches in hand following the firetrack trail, we initially trotted off with high spirits, but soon began to wonder if we were on course. We have to admit we made a few track choices based on the sound navigation principle of eeny-meeny-miny-moe. We willingly followed the firetacks that we found, further and further into unknown territory, and in the dark.
At the top of the sandy hill, and well after the “what the %&$* are we doing on a Sat night†feeling had passed, we were pretty sure we had lost the firetrack trail for sure, but then in the distance a faint glimmer of a firetack. Copious amounts of searching lead us to a smaller track and then another trail and eventually to the three tacks. Luckily, I still had the compass in my bag. Shortly after we had the cache in hand and finally success for the night.
On return to the geokombi, we discovered one of the geokiddies had not shut a door properly and car was unlocked for 2 hours!
Joint find with Trailertrash78 and mob- 2 Adults and five kids (yes Geotoddler Connor – 5 kids! not 3 – last night was a “I can’t count past 3†night) all wandering around in the dark in new unknown territory,
I tell ta, if geocaching doesn’t drive me to demon drink the geokiddies will!

What a mission!! Joint find with Saulman. I have know idea how we managed this one, I think pure luck had alot to do with it!! Thanking our lucky stars that no passers by noticed the geokombi door was ajar for 2 hours...good onya GeoJay!
I have a feeling Saulman wont like Connor's help at caching or counting anymore :/
Loads of fun! TFTC

Found it 10.10pm with langb77 we both decided to do both the frankston bypass ones in the same evening. This one a far lot harder but a great hide and a bit of fun finding it.we were stumped when we got to the boundary track and after a few reads of the notes we finally got back on track.Once we found the 3 pins together we then knew it wasent far away.
Great hide and fair bit of work involed. Once we found it i realized that my house is only about 2oo metres away.

I had to get up nice and early this morning to complete the two night caches. This one was more of a challenge than I expected but there was enough info for me to check my progress as I went and the coords were really good at each location. For some reason I missed the obvious location at GZ but was able to correct things after realising I'd have to go off the path otherwise.
It's been a while since I've done any night caching so this was bit of a novelty on my visit.
Many thanks,

Finished work at Karingal at about 1:30am and headed to the Reserve to find this cache but managed to locate another one first whilst following the firetack trail. Actuallt I had lost the trail and was wandering the tracks . . found another cache . . and managed to pick up the firetack trail again, maybe it was luck. I was then able to follow the firetacks to the final three firetack location and eventually locate the cache. It was quite a mild night and the walking through the deep sand certainly gave the legs a bit of a work out, considering it took me about 1.5 hours to find just this cache. Nice night views from the tracks. Thanks for the challenge coverthypnosis. Took travel bug, LNSL.
This was cache # 23 of 37 for the day, In the company of Alansee, on our second tour of the Bayside suburbs and Mornington Peninsula. We had made a go at this last time we were here but not quite finished it, so we picked up where we left off and soon had it done, I have gained a reputation for having Eagle eye sight but this sure was a though one even for me, not sure what wore me out most the eye strain or the walking along in that thick sand. My thanks to CovertHypnosis for the cache.
Found on a wet but generally enjoyable day/night out caching with Acts2YouthGroup. We had done most of this one on a previous visit and finished it off on this one. The rain during the day had gone and after not too long we had the cache in hand at last. Those tacks can be hard to see at times! Thanks CovertHypnosis for the fun and the cache.
Lost the trail for this one... and after back tracking I was still unsure of which direction to take to get to this cache. May be back on another day for this adventure.
This one has been on my to-do list for quite a while now. Today I finally managed to come here and tackle it. I was quite happy with my equipment until the moment 15 minutes into the walk, when my flashlight batteries died. Of course I did not have spare ones with me. Rookie mistake! [xx(]
After restoring flashlight power I could go on. Even though I must have missed some of the fire tacks I relied on my cacher's sense and blind luck and finally got to the final tree with the three tacks. Only it wasn't three, but five dots shining back at me. A closer look revealed a possum sitting right next to the fire tacks. Shortly after, the cache was located.
Thanks for the nice walk with a few beautiful views along the way. I'm still trying to get all the sand out of my shoes

1st find of the night at 21:23 on 18-11 and 696th find in total.
We couldn't believe how close to finishing the cache we were when we were here last time! With a bit of a nudge from the owner we found the track we missed and got to the cache without any problems.
TNLNSL, thanks coverthypnosis for the cache. >(''\(OoO)/'')

Found at about 1030 hrs tonight in the company of a friend for backup. A good night to pick up a few of the local caches. Had a bit of trouble seeing the "lights" (and I had new glasses as well) but we got there in the end. I took notes for my own cache of this type coming up soon somewhere. Thanks Covert for the cache.
Our first fire tack night cache on a warm and balmy night. It took approx 1 hout for us to complete this hunt, but in the end it was worth it. We didn't even get lost in the end and even found a shorter way back to our car...Took Aussie Decoder TB and Left Breast Cancer GC and Naughty and Nice GC. TFTH...SL
After eating Mexican food and dropping off Caleb at home to look after his older sister, we decided we could use a walk and went to this familiar park. The journey tonight was much longer than we had spent here, and really appreciated the views on a Full Moon night with Lightning in the background. Mrs was a bit scared , but with me feeding her fears we eventually made it to the cache.
Thanks for bringing us here.
Thanks for bringing us here.
A rather long after work diversion saw us all the way down here tramping around in the sand. Robmc called and suggested we go here, picking up a few caches along the way and dinner to kill time before it got dark. I wondered that there hasn't been a cache here before especially as the view from the lookout isn't bad. I'd not brought a torch so we had to rely on Rob's alone so we had a little trouble finding all the tacks especially near the end and we thought we'd not complete it for a while, before we found the way to go.
Thanks CovertHypnosis. It was fun

We wanted to try this cache before the event next weekend, so we nipped down after work.
There was a nice breeze blowing so it wasn't too hot walking around in the sand. The down side of the breeze was that it often blew leaves in front of the firetacks, obscuring them. A few times we were walking along without a tack.
We had a bit of trouble identifying the track before the houses, but we eventually got there.
GZ was a quick find, then the trudge back to the car.
Nice view from the track at night.
Thanks, Robmc.

and rabbitto rang me up in Queensland while I was videoing my daughters FPS skit in the National Championships to tell me!!! The worst possible timing for a phone to go off
We found this one at 3:00pm. 3rd of 9. Yes, that's correct folks, full daylight. Another challenge as set by Backpaqer in their log to quote "This definitely cannot be done during the day". It took a little while to pick up the trail but once started, we used line of sight to project places where the next fire tack would be and although they may be extremely difficult to find in broad daylight, they are certainly not impossible and we were happy to pick them up at a fairly regular pace. At only one place on the journey were there three possible ways and it wasn't until the third pick that we were able to resume our journey. Although this would also be a treat to do at night, we really enjoyed the daylight challenge. Thanks for the cache from D, H & A B-A.
found with squalid on a fine evening left moo cow tb. tntftc
thought we'd give this a crack on it's first night...we spotted people in the carpark when we arrived and thought they might have been locals (correct) but didn't look too hard in the low light and trotted off in the wrong direction (I think I did this as well last time I was in this park). As we approached the first waypoint, I thought I saw a firetack...but it was actually Rigger64's cigarette glowing in the dark! Cheeky monkeys
Anyway...as Rigger had obviously done the cache...we simply followed his footprints all the way to the cache
I'll have to add this one to my Night Cache Event page...definitely cannot be done during the day.
Good job

Found To-Nite @2130Hrs.
I got to the carpark & there was not a soul i site so of to WP1 i headed to find the first of the fire tacks then the next few then just as i was getting to about a Quater to a third of the way into it & the owner turned up then we headed off to get to GZ. with the owner in tow so as not to give away any info but as he was fixing up one of the tacks he droped it so off home he troted to get some more tack & i headed off to get to GZ by myself.
I had to stop a couple of times to soak in the views for some of the vantige point.
Any way back to it after doing the projections & following the rest of the tacks & the final projection i found myself @ GZ.
Just as i was signing the log book who should turn up you guesed it the owner again.
But all in all A great Hide in a great park & a great night for a walk in the park on a nice barmy night withe a nice breaze blowing.
On the way out we saw A Tawwne Frog Mouth (Owl) & a couple of cachers which we snuk up on. (Squalid & Backpaqer)

After a meal and discussion with BackPAQer about the up-coming Halloween event, I was settling down to a bit of TV and maybe a snooze on the couch. Then an SMS arrives from BackPAQer "Fancy a drive down to Frankston for a new night cache?". Why not. Headed off, and after a slight Garmin detour, found ourselves in a carpark where there was another car, and a couple of suspect looking characters. We ignored them ad headed off to GZ in one direction, while they went on a shorter route, and lo and behold they were waiting for us. Quick discussion with Rigger and Covert, and we were off, marching through the sand, not tripping over too many roots. The views from here at night are pretty cool. did the offsets, and the cache was in hand quick smart. The walk back was even more enjoyable with less urgency. TNLN and thanks for the well set out cache and good walk.
