Another look, no joy. Can CO confirm it's still there, please?

15-Oct-24
Is cache still in situ? Thanks.

17-Aug-24
Interesting and enjoyable multi. However, although I'm confident I was in the right place for GZ, searching the area was off-putting due to rubbish and the amount of old/composting flax. Had a look but no joy. May try again another time.

28-Jul-24
I looked for this once, long ago, and could not find it. Since then it had been replaced (thanks for the maintenance), and I found it, but left it there as it was not a multi dot-day. I no longer have to save multis, so I stopped by here... and couldn't find it again!! ARRRGGHHH!!!!!Putting a watch on. Hopefully it is just my eyes and not that it has gone missing again!

12-Jul-24
Pleased to finally claim this after visiting on and off for over 4 years now and always when it turns out to have gone missing! Gathering the information was interesting and enjoyable, not so much was searching this specific area which is usually somewhat rubbish strewn. It's good we won't need to anymore. TFTC bkj97

11-Jul-24
Found it

28-Jun-24
I had a little bit of trouble with this multi, firstly reading the plaque was tricky, and then a couple of mistakes in interpreting the questions had me all over the place, but eventually I got the numbers right and had some appropriate looking coordinates. On my first visit to the cache location there were picnickers nearby, so I had to leave and return another day. All clear this time, and the cache was found after a short search.---Thanks to Bkj97 for placing and maintaining this cache. I enjoy each and every cache I find, and it is only with Geocachers like this creating them and placing them out in the world that this wonderful game continues.

01-Apr-24
It was a cloudy old day in Wellington and we came up the line to discover a glorious day in Kapiti. This short multi was an easy find though it was a little hard to read the writing on the plaque in the bright sunshine. TFTC

17-Feb-24
Took a photo on our first visit and worked out the solution and then made a nice quick find on our return visit

22-Jan-24
Out and about with TrinityNZ chasing Muilti's which need to be found on a Monday for a Challenge cache.A great spot. Had a wet bumble bee join in on the proceedings, popped him on the monument while we did the workings out, then we wandered off to find the cache. An easy find once we were in the right spot. TFTC Bkj97 Smile

22-Jan-24
I'd solved this puzzle a year or so ago, but couldn't find the cache when I looked for it the first time. I came back another time and redid the coordinates, thinking I may have got them wrong. That time, the coordinates I ended up with were out at sea, so gave up. Today I was back with JustlookingOO. We redid the puzzle, and both got coordinates that seemed reasonable. Of course they took me to the place I'd first looked, all that time ago. Jo got right in amongst in and soon had the cache in hand. Thanks for the multi bkj97.

04-Jan-24
The toddler could choose where to go and she opted for "a new playground". After some gmaps search we decided where to go. Without any prep we only opened the GC app once there. We usually don't go for Multis. Partially because they tend to be old and often not well maintained, partially because the kids, especially geo-toddler don't have the patience to sit around until we work out quizzes, maths, letters etc. we were intrigued by the story and went to GZ of the monument, loved the story and the coords were quickly worked out, too. A quick find at the final and we even spotted a pristine new logbook. Thanks for keeping this multi maintained for such a long time and bringing us here. Apologies for the late log. We are worse than armchair loggers. We actually DO go out and find the caches but because we plan to write up longer and nicer logs at home we also can forget to do so. We could blame the teen and toddler, but Travelling the world then moving into a new country unexpectedly (NZ) means we were always busy and now have 500logs to catch up on they are all from drafts so the date of the log will be when we actually visited (not today).

02-Dec-23
New container placed today

Could not find the cache.

13-Sep-23
Did the puzzle and visited GZ twice this week but couldn't find the cache.

30-Jul-23
I need a multi-cache today, it being a multi-cache dot day, and I thought I may as well pick one a long way away. So I and my bike took the train from Lower Hutt to Wellington and then another out to here. Only $2.36 for the ride from Wellington!! But alas I could not find this.

The hint description sort of matches GZ, but hiding a micro in that pile of flax? Gotta be nuts!! Although I did find three beer bottles and two beer cans. More likely I made a typo somewhere. I went back to take a photo of the plaque and will re work it at home.

03-Jan-23
We arrived in town on the 28th of December and completed the answers for this one, then became the fun part looking, hunting, retrieving, and signing the container that held in its clutches the formidable log.
On numerous occasions we visited gz but not even game enough too look for this one as it was the meeting point of muggles centre crikey anyone would think it was Xmas and the weather has been oh my God unbelievable.
And as we head for home tomorrow we decided one more look and it was like there was something on in town because there was nobody at gz so in we went armed with the hint and after 10 minutes of hunting we hit the container, was a lot bigger than expected , on opening and retrieving the log it became apparent that it was completely soaked and un signable.
Have bundled it all up and replaced where found.

03-Jan-23
Owner might like to check on this guy as is very soaked and unsignable

02-Jan-23
one of the last finds for the day, there had been heaps of muggles here on previous visits but not tonight.
found with watcache and emiliyah

25-Aug-22
Took a photo of the plaque a while ago and solved at home. Quick find today, and away enough from the path to not be suspicious. Thanks bkj97!

09-Aug-22
Out and about doing some after school errands, we found ourselves in Paraparaumu beach. Why not have a look for a cache?
Great story, not sure we will be attempting this feat anytime soon. Quick solve of the coordinates, rushed back to the car to work out location of GZ as it was pretty fresh outside!
Not too far to wander to find the cache. Eventually found it by reading the hint as we found the south coordinates to be not quite ‘southy’ enough. Logbook is pretty soaked, could barely write on it.
Thanks!

06-Jun-22
Back for yet another go at this after the CO had paid a visit. A little busy in the park today but all clear near the cache so I ducked in for a look and was astounded to a cache immediately. But it's not exactly a new cache - it appears to be the one that Matagouri rediscovered and presumably returned in a place that was easier to find. Because I would have found it before if it was there. Maybe it was buried though.

I could not really sign the wet log though although it turned out from my photo I did make some kind of mark. When I went to return the cache muggles chose that moment to turn up and hang around. Oh no! I was go to have a further look for the new cache but I had to flag that idea now. I managed to sneak the cache back to where it was and slink off again.

I guess at some point you might have to remove the old cache if there is a new one there somewhere! Glad to have finally found something here. TFTC.

06-Jun-22
So many places it could be. Wasn’t able to find today Smile

16-May-22
Oh dear! This is one that I've looked for on occasion, but not found. Saw that the CO had reset the cache, so decided to come for a look. Unfortunately, following the new hint, I promptly found the original (or at least, the replacement from 2011)! Log wet, but still signable. Could not see the new cache in the flax, but a family sat down for a snack nearby, so had to cut search short. Tftc!

14-May-22
Container was buried and damaged after some gardening maintenance so have replaced. Ready to go again. Hint amended.

30-Apr-22
No tracker

30-Dec-21
Got my coords fixed which sent me to a place I actually searched the first time. Had a more thorough look but still too hard to find.

20-Dec-21
Enjoyed the story. Calculated a final and found some flax. Unable to find a cache. The kids enjoyed the playground.

08-Dec-21
We were coming down to the Kapiti coast area tomorrow to visit a family member so decided to come a day early and get caching to gain elevation on the latest Peak Challenge. We mainly focused on Ad Labs but also associated or nearby caches. We were a bit concerned after yesterday’s storm and flooding but we had a perfect day, except for some wetness underfoot at times, especially in the wetlands!
This has got to be one of our most frustrating caches. This was our third visit and again ithe cache seems to have disappeared!
As on the other occasions the vegetation was thick and rampant and despite searching for quite a time we could find no sign of the piece of driftwood which was supposed to cover the micro container. The other times it did turn out the cache was missing. Has it gone again? We’ll not try again unless we’ve got useful confirmation of its location.

20-Nov-21
Pretty sure that I've identified GZ, but far too busy on a sunny day to hazard a search. Will come back when it's quieter.

20-Oct-21
Screwed up my coords and I didn't have the enthusiasm to find out why. The first of many multi DNFs today.

11-Sep-21
Beautiful morning to walk here from our rental unit, and enjoyed watching the Kapiti Island tourist boats get backed down into the surf for their trip. Having recorded a DNF here in August last year, and noting it’s been found relatively recently, thought I’d have another look. Had to wait for a woman and her dog to move before having a look. But, again, no joy. Not worth the hassle. Too many muggles around. It’ll have to wait for another day.

08-May-21
I was at work this morning when I noticed that 2 more had been released along the Kapiti Expressway. Today was one of my few remaining Dot Days so whether I got beaten to be the first for those or not, I figured it was worth a drive down towards Kapiti to get them and have another crack at looking for caches that I had previously DNF'd such as this one.

This was actually my 4th attempt at this cache. Arriving at the calculated GZ, I was frustrated to find a family watching the boats coming in for the day, so I decided to walk over to another cache and then get this one on my way back.

So on my return I went straight to exactly where I had searched before, but this time the cache was an instant find. Finally, I have turned the blue frown into a yellow smiley!

Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache.

02-May-21
New container in place today. No sign of the cr#p mentioned in previous logs just a discarded can.

06-Mar-21
Second DNF here. Not having much luck with this. Last time it turned out to be missing and maybe is again - only the area doesn’t tempt a thorough search as there were piles of discarded Kina prickly shells, strips of toilet paper, a swarm of flies...goodness knows what’s in there!

06-Mar-21
Looks like a re-siting is in order.

04-Jan-21
Found a likely place. Lots of empty booze bottles and other assorted litter. No cache unfortunately.

12-Sep-20
Tftc been out to kapiti Island today with geeves90, hayzz and meet up with Dianne on the way in.

12-Sep-20
So I missed the bright yellow! Luckily someone else checked again!

12-Sep-20
After a trip to kapiti island, now out looking for some caches.

12-Sep-20
Found while introducing a new friend to the world of caching.
Nothing like converting a muggle

12-Aug-20
It's great to be able to turn this one into a smiley face. A nice but very windy day. Great for a walk on the beach. A nice and easy multi. Thanks for placing the cache

09-Aug-20
New container in place and hint amended.

02-Aug-20
Nice easy puzzle which I believe I solved some time ago, but I believe I never actually went looking for the hide. Today I did! But: It is definitely not findable with all the growth around GZ. As I am staying in a B&B only 200m away, I may go back tomorrow with some gardening tools. But as the cache hasn’t been found for over a year, perhaps I am hoping against hope. Watch this space!

P.s. the following day: despite hacking into the undergrowth with some suitable tools, I still had no joy. Bkj97 - how about doing a spot of maintenance to ensure the cache is actually a) there and b) accessible! Thanks!

04-Jul-20
This weekend I was playing host to some friends of mine - mum, dad and kids. Dad has a dot day to be filled tomorrow and I had one today. So, with the weather actually playing ball, a group of us headed to the Kapiti Coast today to find some parks for the kids to play in, and a cache for me to find.

This was the first one we attempted. In fact this was my 3rd attempt at it, having failed to find it on 2 previous occasions on my own. Today it was good to have another cacher with me to have a go at working out the co-ordinates (as a check to see if I had been looking in the right place).
Fortunately I had been, but unfortunately in spite of 3 sets of eyes trying our very best to unearth this one, we had to call a halt to searching after about 20 minutes.

We found plenty of old beer bottles, and the flaxes are now a lot cleaner and tidier than they had been, but still no cache. Very frustrating.

13-Apr-20
Please don’t search for caches during this lockdown time. You could easily be spreading or catching Covid-19 virus from surfaces touched. All caches are off limits for now. Stay home or take a little safe exercise. Keep yourself and everyone else as safe as possible.

12-Apr-20
It was easy enough to find the answer to the questions and get to the cache location. Two of us searched for ages but couldn't spot it.

18-Jan-20
I'd intended this to be my cache of the day, downloaded the details into the Garmin and arrived at GZ. I read through the description and got to the end and...no details about the calculation required. Hmmm, every other multi I have ever done over the years has included the required calculations in the description. So I had a look in the Garmin at the Waypoint as well. What do you know, the Garmin only has a limited amount of characters available for notes in a Waypoint and had chopped off everything after 'A - Number of columns'. So, Mrs B took a photo of the plaque and we will work out the co-ordinates back at home and next time we visit Paraparaumu Beach (assuming we do) we can look for it then. Today, we instead headed for a Traditional cache nearby as Plan B to get a cache of the day.

This obviously doesn't affect people with smart phones, but I don't have one and the only caching I can do is downloading into the Garmin. Can I suggest CO adds the required calculations to the end of the cache description, so those of us who rely on older technology can still look for and find this cache? Thanks.

06-Dec-19
We had to travel to Kapiti today to pick up a family member who had arrived from Canada for a short visit, but since the good weather was continuing we made sure we left in time to do a little caching too.
This was an interesting plaque to read and we soon had the coordinates sorted. However it was another matter at GZ. We spent quite some time on a fruitless search. Despite the hint too, there was no sign of the cache. We suspect it has probably gone missing. We’ll keep an eye on it to see what eventuates here and hopefully we can find it another time.

01-Jun-19
3rd time coming back for this cache adsI’ve been trying to do it in the dark so very happy to finally tick it off. Easy solve. TFTC

16-Jun-18
Not such a bad afternoon on the coast for a winter's day.
This was one of a bunch of caches that I found during an afternoon romp.
I visited here with team cacher zboy wonder.
Previously a DNF, back in 2015. This time a reasonably straightforward find, mostly as described, sans driftwood.
Cache in order, log signed; all safely re-hidden, just as found.

Had been here ages ago and not found it, so good to get it this time. All good with the cache, TFTC

22-Apr-18
Nice straightforward find, interesting story, lots of people out enjoying the sun today, son located the cache, TFTC

16-Apr-18
Nice to see a find after a few failures.

24-Feb-18
Lovely afternoon with families enjoying the park eating lunch and kids running around. Sat next to the stone gathering the information whilst enjoying the view out over the water towards Kapiti Island.
With a set of coordinates calculated I headed off and the area looked promising from the hint description. Fortunately nobody was at the nearby resting place so I could duck into the shrubbery without causing to many questions. Had to hunt about quite a bit until the hint items revealed themselves, it was well camouflaged. Cache discovered, I withdrew to complete the log requirements out in the sunshine. Bit of moisture in the bags but log OK. Gave everything a bit of time in the warmth of the sunshine to dry out before returning as found.
Thanks for highlighting this piece of local history and legend. TFTC

27-Aug-17
My records indicate I figured out the coordinates for this cache back in 2012. I can't remember what happened next; I suspect muggle issues may have prevented me from having a good look for it.

An absurd amount of time passed before I decided to have another crack; despite being close by on several occasions. Whatever issues I had the first time were not present today and I was able to make a very quick find.

TFTC, Bkj97.

31-Jul-17
Up the coast today in order to get my July numbers up. Finally a quick find after failing to find in my nemesis type of vegetation. Very pleased to nail this one. All in order. TFTC

Tricky find with nz travellers!

23-Apr-17
Staying with family KapitiKid we headed for a walk along the beach this morning to collect Pokemon (not my favorite activity but as it was the Nephews Favorite, Uncle Mr NZT could HARDLY refuse... for the record I managed to capture a very rare Pokemon much to KapitiKid Nephews annoyance!!)

We arrived at WP1 just in time to record the corrected coords. There was a muggle lady sitting at the very nearby picnic table and she could obviously see us calculating these coords and so Mr NZT in his every so friendly manner and always willing to promote Geocaching stated loudly that the poor lady must be wandering what on Earth we were doing. Her less than cordial response stating that she wish we would leave as we were making to much noise ensured we made her wish come true!!!!

When we got to the final coords Mr NZT and KapitiKids made the initial search without much luck and Mr NZT checked the logs to find that the last few were all DNFs and Mr NZT was all but ready to give up on it. Mrs NZT jumped in and in record time had the cache in hand. The cache was exactly as described in the hint and in all good order!

Gets a favorite point from us as its always satisfying to find a cache that has a few DNFs before your find.

TFTC

14-Apr-17
Worked out the numbers which led me to a likely looking GZ matching the hint but no luck finding the cache today unfortunately.

04-Mar-17
Struggled... but kids weren't in the right heads pace.

22-Dec-16
Thought I had the right numbers but could not find the cache. The grass was pretty long but we tried hard to hunt out the cache. No luck this time.

Nice lookout overlooking beach.

24-Apr-16
We worked out this multi awhile ago but there was a family sitting nearby and they just wouldn't leave so we're back today for a search. Took a wee while to track down! TFTC

03-Apr-16
Our first cache for the day. We were just staying across the road at the Youth Hostel, we have packed up the car and driven across the road to here. Nothing like a multi to get the brain going, we've had eggs and baked beans for brekky and I'm ready to go. Rusty and Rebel have been to this multi before to no avail. But with 2 extra pair of eyes, the cache isn't going to stay hidden for long. It still took a few minutes to find though but this time rusty found it.

Now supernanny is off to see her sister for a few hours, Rebel is very keen to see the car museum just north of here, I'm quite keen to join him and rusty has in mind a mystery cache she wants to do so she gets to drive the super modern keyless, 2016 Toyota Corolla! I'm sure she doesn't mind that!

03-Apr-16
As this Multi was just across the road from our Hostel , it was an obvious choice for our first cache of the day ! Was with Gorby , rustynz and Rebel98 and we worked on it as a team ....
All maths completed off we went to the final .....After 3 of us searched fruitlessly in the dreaded green plant ( which shall remain nameless ) rusty suddenly called out " Got It !"
Thanks for telling us this very interesting legend bkj97 ......glad we had time to do the puzzle !!!!!!

03-Apr-16
We were all going in different directions for a couple of hours, so one cache opposite to where we were staying. I had solved this last year, but with rebel98 could not find it in the flax. We calculated the co-ords again, a small error was putting us in a different place, so I looked at the numbers again, spotted our error and back to that flax bush again Big Grin

With rebel98, supernanny and gorby giving the area a good search, I was reading out the hint/description/logs, dived into the scrum and had the cache in my hand! the log was soaked, so have replaced it with a new bag and waterproof paper. Thanks for the puzzle and the hide, love this story and history.

26-Feb-16
Great spot on the beach and good to see the upgrade of the nearby park. Unfortunately the cache was a soaking wad of paper in the tin, so couldn't get my pen to make any impression. Emptied the plastic bag which was water logged, but didn't have anything to replace the paper or bag with. Needs a bit of attention. TFTC

27-Jan-16
We worked out the clues in the rain and then went on to do other caches until it stopped raining and then returned and soon found it. TFTC

20-Dec-15
One of those 'solved ages ago, but the time was never right to finish' caches. Either too many muggles, too little time, not in the mood, the weather not conducive to searching.... etc. Finally gave up on the excuses, and, whilst the boys played nearby, I tracked this one down after a short search. TFTC - replacement log nice and dry.

04-Dec-15
Hello bkj97
We couldn't find the replacement of the last cachet, might want to check on it?

04-Dec-15
Pls see last 3 logs.... It's a nice multi and do hope it will keep on!

04-Oct-15
As our log said we found this cache near GZ empty. We put it back together and hid it where the hint suggests, but it may need some attention. Please message us if you would like more info.

04-Oct-15
We don't often get multi's but had some time to kill so we thought we would give this one a go. At the rock we got the information without any trouble and then set off to find the cache. There were small muggles running around but they soon left and we could hunt around. After checking the hint again, finding a ziplock empty near ground zero, and looking at a recent DNF we were left wondering if it would be a bust when we noticed the cache some meters away from ground zero empty. We put new paper in it and put it in the ziplock and hid it as best we could where the hint describes. Thanks for setting up this cache!

17-May-15
Did the numbers, took the stroll and investigated once at GZ.
No joy for us this time.

I dropped my familie off at Paraparaumu for a trip to Kapiti Island and spend the whole day caching in the Queen elisabeth Park.
And now the way back. Very interresting story.

30-Oct-14
Braved the cold and wind to do this one today. The sea was very rough. No muggles around eating ice-cream, no-one strolling on our lovely beach. Only team cacher Mr. T, me and the seagulls around today. Tftc.

20-Sep-14
nice cache, lots of bags though

17-Sep-14
Didn't manage to find this one. Coordinates lead to the picnic table but, if it was under the table, pretty sure it's not there now

An enjoyable little multi while enjoying the nice weather up the coast. TFTC

Cache # 1,729 - In the area and by myself tonight, so swung by well after dark and did a night-time raid. Having solved the multi previously, was hoping not to run into any muggles. Even though at night, it was a warm and clear evening, so you never know. So a truck driving on the beach, but the rest was smooth. A relatively quick find for a flax hide (thank you for the very descriptive clue), and then took longer to extract the log book than it did to find the cache. Thanks for an interesting history lesson! TNLNSL. The two trackables listed are not in the cache - the only thing there is the log book.

28-Apr-14
Cool finally found it

Worked out the final today, but the brilliant sunshine found muggles sitting right next to the GZ. Will be back later to grab this.

07-Feb-14
Worked this one out ages ago but always too many muggles in area But not today started raining as we closed car door so a quite grab and sign Outer bag is very nibbled. TFTC

30-Jan-14
Time to log. Original beta check now updated as a find. T4TC

Nice multi for a very windy morning. Lelie van Dalen has the good eyesight, so the questions had we quickly solved. And from there it was not very far to the cache.
CO thanks.
Greetings from The Netherlands.

Nice story. Easy to find the answers. Nice walk on a windy morning. Easy found at the end.
Thanks CO

Man that was hard when your phone app doesn't give you the questions. Lol. Had to go home use laptop email questions to phone then go back out. Found it though. First multicache

16-Nov-13
Checked GZ this morning while down at the markets. Vegetation has improved at final but cache was exactly where it should be.

14-Nov-13
may need a look at probably missing

05-Oct-13
Found on a nice sunny day at Paraparaumu Beach. A fun multi

05-Oct-13
Found after a short wander around the park. TFTC

30-Aug-13
Find #1592. Out on another cycle-caching sortie on a reasonably nice day with the odd shower and cool winds from the south. Didn't bother going to the plaque again as I knew where this was meant to be and bingo, there it was in plain view and in danger of being collected as plastic rubbish. Not sure why I couldn't locate it last time - so pleased to tick off another multi. SL TFTC

25-Aug-13
Found with Mermaid Man. I somehow neglected to log it at the time so I am logging it now (2 years later!)

25-Aug-13
Thanks for a nice little multi. The plaque is quite hard to read but Jimbob Jr's young eyes came to the rescue. Cache was an easy find.

14-Apr-13
Found the flax bushes and the driftwood and an obvious hidey hole for a cache ... but no cache. Try again another day!
