Needed to find a cache today to fill a hole in the calendar. This was the closest unfound, after not finding GC41MQN and GC2XW3P, that is. Logs seemed to indicate an easy find so I really hoped three times is a charm tonight. It was really dark by now, but the cache was placed along a wide track, no issue to climb with my bike headlight. Impressive Redwood trees, love them! Could not see them very well in the dark, but still nice. Hint is clear and I quickly spotted the most likely location. After a bit of digging I finally had an actual cache container in my hand. I happily signed the RITR log and sighed that my quest for a find today was over! Tftc & favo for the relief Smile

After a very slow start this morning, I managed to find this one where the hint said. TFTC.

Needed a cache today for a number of reasons and this was it. Had a brief look a few years ago on a walk to Rocks Hut but as time was pressing did not spend too much time on it. Today was a quick simple find as per the hint. Cache a bit wet but dried out okay. Log sheet was 'write in the rain', so all good.

We wanted to do the Tangatree loop but it was closed, so we drove a bit further up and made the short but enjoyable loop walk here. Cache found and I've added a small bag for the log.

07-Oct-21
A nice easy find with 2 small people in tow. Log slightly damp but still ok. TFTC.

17-Jun-21
Thanks for the CACHE

01-May-21
Easy find due to the hint, container was found but absolutely nothing in it. No paper, no plastic, no wood with a thin sharpened graphite centre..... RITR paper added and we have scribbled our names on it. Last one for the day. We headed off for a beer. TFTC B&W.

01-May-21
Last cache of the day. It's been a long but very enjoyable hike
Awesome picnic table at this spot!!

A great day walking from Marsden Valley to the Brook, caching along the way.
My idea to do this hike & I thought it would be about 15 kms & maybe 4 hours...ended up being 20.6 kms & 6.5 hours
A well deserved cider & chips after out hike
A great day out!

Found the case, but it was empty. Have placed it back in hiding spot.

20-Aug-17
Headed over to Nelson today to spend some quality time with the daughter. While waiting for her to go out for lunch I headed up this road for a drive. Will definitely come back for some more exploration... just the one cache today. A quick walk up the hill - must have had a decent amount of rain lately - was a bit of a boggy mess.
Cache was tucked away nicely - a tad wet but still ok for writing.

This was going to be my one and only cache today, but when I first arrived there was a family playing nearby with bow and arrows - they were having a great time. So I decided to go and get another one or two a bit further afield. Quite some time later after doing a circut I arrived back at the Redwood Grove - they are such magnificent trees. A great spot so close to town. The cache was and easy enough find. Thanks bumandworker for the cache

Cool spot!!

19-Feb-16
The path was open again so we headed up. Only a short search was necessary to find the cache. Thanks for pointing out these magnificent trees.

19-Feb-16
Found this one on holiday in NZ, we (Flying-Kiwi and I) really like caching in this beautiful country for we get to see the most interesting places this way. Thanks a lot!

19-Feb-16
Sorry we didn't have more paper with us to replace the wet logbook. We continued up the path towards the call of the Tui but turned back at a danger sign on the path.

10-Sep-15
Cache (and others nearby) unavailable due to logging, please obey signage.

17-Mar-15
I stopped by a nearby cache to collect a part of another puzzle cache and with some time to spare felt another couple of grabs would be in order.

So I picked this never-before visited track and made my way along, knowing that I would not be going as far up as the [currently] closed section as warned on the gate at the start of the track.

I passed some fantastic trees and the smell of pine was something else, but only one tree was the real target of my attentions.

The cache was quickly found, thanks to the hint. I dried the log and container out as best I could and was still able to sign it, but will make a note to return with a fresh log and additional ziplock bags.

Thanks

Some track closures had us go a different direction. Why we had not bagged this cache before is a mystery. It gave a smile today all the same. Thank you Bumandworker for placing this cache.

12-Nov-14
We took a chance on some tracks being open in the area and wandered up here. Just before GZ we had to wait for a couple of young ladies to pass before we could make the final approach. Thank you bumandworker.

Our original easter plan since ages ago was to go hiking. Every night staying in a DOC hut. We had already planned out a route, and a backup in Mt Richmond Forrest park... however the weather sort of ruined that...

We instead kept on driving to Nelson, and decided to do various day and overnight trips - jus to throw that DOC hut in the mix.

Today it was time to go up to Third Hut, and then do an overnight trip out to Hackett Hut.

First cache of the walk. Still there!! Smile Just had to dig deep...

Consec caching day # 531

TFTC!! Smile

Nice hiding spot! Took a couple of goes to find.
Cache doesn't appear to be waterproof. Dried out as best we could. log book was damp but signable.

Left a pencil with the cache.

Found travelbug inside, which we didn't move, but can't find it in the system. The photo I took on my phone isn't totally clear. Maybe I'm entering the code wrong. Will go back at some stage to investigate.

A pleasant walk down, but a bit of a slog up as we took the direct route.
We also had to tip water out of the container, and the logbook was soaked so was unsignable.
TFTC.

Enjoyed a walk up through the Redwood Grove this morning. Found the cache easily enough. The container was wet inside so we dried it out as best we could and took the geocoin to move it along. Very nice location. Thanks.

The find was nice and quick but the very tired legs made the short walk seem very long !!! Smile watched a few young ones leaping their bikes over the jumps - far to much energy !!!!! nice to come to an area we have not been to before - am sure we will be back thanks for the cache Smile

28-Aug-11
What a great area for the bikes to be and after watching a mum go greyer watching the youngsters doing high jumps we headed up further to claim our prize. TFTC Smile

25-Apr-11
My last of the afternoon on a wander around the Brook Valley. Had come for this one on my way up but a jumpy GPS meant I came up empty handed. Managed to walk straight to it on the way down, a nice part of the track here, TFTC!

05-Mar-11
On a BWOC again with -gonefishing and boxhill in Nelson to clean up a few of the nice and challenging caches. Arrived at the entrance and off we went, this is quite a nice walkway to do on a day that started quite gloomily and then now fined up to be a nice warm day. Glad to get some shade and have a good walk up the nicely formed track. Arrived at GZ and boxhill and -gonefishing- found the cache quickly, while I was admiring these giants of the forest, "COOL" trees, I really love these sort of bush walks, Thanks for bringing us here and for the exercise, TFTC TNLNSL (2761)

12-Jul-10
Found this with Bartlett Boys while out riding. We were part way up the hill, but decided to go back down to get this one. You should have heard Mr BB whine about the extra 400 metres we had to do! Moan moan moan moan moan.....

Actually this is a really cool bit of forest - well worth visiting (especially if you are on a mountain-bike).

26-Sep-09
Found after 'Hillside Shearing Shed'. I really like this grove of Redwoods - especially the mountain biking track nearby. TFTC as it gave me something to do instead of just waiting for Mr Navfam at the bottom of the track. Final grab made by Mr Navfam though.

Standing on top of the Grampians I pressed "Find Next". Redwood Grove? I'd forgotten about that! So back at this place where I once helped an Auckland cacher get a DNF, except this time the hide was much better, and in fact resulted in an F. Nice spot, indeed in need of more investigation. Pressed "Find Next". Fringe Benefit. Errr... not today! Wink Nice one, thanks Bum.

27-Aug-09
Time at last to catch up on a few recent local caches. All good with this one. Must explore this track a bit further one day. +TB, TFTC, Biggles.

Was in the neighbourhood doing "Hillside Shearing Shed", so popped over to check status on this one. The "No Entry" signs have now gone, replaced with signs advising caution re Cyanide. Quick easy find after all that!

Good to do this one with the track now open again. A track we had never been up before. Took nothing. Left Quatchi TB. TFTC

16-Aug-09
Nice One!!!!!!!! Was also at the Shearing Shed on the way to this one. Mountain bikers were having a ball in the mud on the side tracks just up from GZ. Once GPS settled down, no problem with the find. Nice little bit of North American West Coast in Nelson. Well done! Thanks

16-Aug-09
Easy find; took Vancouver TB.
