28 September 2024 10:15amThis one was hard to find. I think we put a bit too much faith in the clue and not enough on our GPS. The stump hasnt seen fire, the tree is more of an old branch, and we had no idea which side of the track was the opposite side. But it is there and its in good condition. [^]This was as far as our threesome went chasing these ripper old caches for one day, we still left plenty up here for another adventure, but called it quits here. We figured they had lasted up here in such good condition for so long, they should last long enough for Azrin80 to invite his Aunty catnap777 and I back for another tour of his back yard. TFTC Team Crackers.
28 September 2024 10:12Both dalerious and I haven't cached through here before so we were looking forward to visiting my nephew, who happened to be up at the bush block in Glenpatrick for the long weekend. We got to his place Friday arvo, and after unpacking the car and having a good chinwag, we decided that we would all hop in the Hilux and grab a few on the mountain before going back down and cook some steak on the barbie for tea. The next lot of caches were found on the Saturday morning after dragging ourselves out of a very comfortable bed for the night. This time we went in Azrin80's Nissan Patrol. He had a ball driving us around and once he found a cache or two we couldn't stop him!The bugger hopped out of the car and had the cache in hand before I could say "Go fetch Az".The place was relatively quiet for a long weekend, and the bush looked fresh and not too dry. Although, there was plenty of fuel on the ground, and it makes us wonder why they don't perform fuel reduction burns here, considering the severity of the fires in the region last year.Thank you chooknchunk for keeping this "old" series alive. All the cache containers and logs were in good condition. And thank you Azrin80 for a wonderful weekend.
Nice and dry inside. A little big of swag. Log in good condition with plenty of space
The 4x4 tracks certainly earn the T4 rating for these caches. Gee whiz, fun in the wet I tell you what. Some decent ruts and rocks to navigate. Great fun caching in these parts, and happy to be getting some oldies!
Attacked this one from above and finished the last 350m on foot as the track seemed a little beyond the the Navigators comfort zone. After a quick search the cache was the found. Then only to be muggled by a couple of Trail bike rides, surprised to find me sitting in the middle of nowhere. Wow muggles everyone these days. LOL. Thanks for the cache and the adventure.
Pff what a ride. Definitely for comfortable 4wd'ers. After holding on for dear life we got to the top and found the cache aftee not too long searching. Great views for sure, thank you for this adventure

**Find #4749**
**Traditional Find #2967**
I headed out with Steve to Avoca to target some of Victoria's 500 oldest caches.
The weather was perfect all day but once in the bush, our progress was hindered and then stopped a number of times by branches and entire trees that had been downed by last week's storm.
**Thank-you to Team Crackers for placing this geocache**

*Cache find # 11895.*
Today I headed out West to Mt. Avoca to tackle the hills and target of the first 500 Victorian caches.
This one isn’t as old as some but still fairly old and with The T4 rating we decided to have a look.
We were making our way down the track to this one then arrived at this one section, after having a closer inspection of the track i come to the conclusion that we would be able to drive down this bit but not knowing what was a head especially with all the trees down, if we had to turn around I may not have been able to drive back up this section so we decided to walk the last 380 metres to the cache.
It was certainly a great day to explore the area.

A day in the Pyrenees Ranges, as the cache notes say - a wonderful mix of amazing views, trees and walks. Interesting contrast to Mt Cole.
After reading the cache notes & looking over the edge, we chose to walk the last 300m. Boy, is that steep!
Considering corona virus lock downs etc., etc., 2020 was a very strange year. This cache has not been visited since November 2019 ( 558 days unloved) it is still in very good condition.
Our thanks to Team Crackers for placing caches in such interesting locations.

When making some rough plans for our weeks stay in St Arnaud, Geoturtle had mentioned that she really wanted to spend a day exploring this area. She likes looking for the old caches and the chance to practice her 4x4 driving.
At a bit of a chat last night, others mentioned that they would like to also have a look around the area so we ended up with 6 Victorians, 2 Canadians and 3 Vehicles.
We left St Arnaud at about half eight and were on our way after fueling up.
Avoca was our first stop as the bakery there has some awesome combinations and our overseas visitors had never heard of, nor tasted a snot block.
With taste testing over, we were on our way.
We had a good day with great company. Many laughs were had, caches were found and some great views and driving fun was had.
As it was getting dark and we could see rain heading our way, we chose to leave the hills behind and come back another day to complete what we didn't get to this time.
Avoca was again a place for nourishment, both food and beverage. After everyone had had a good feed, we stopped in at the Chinese Gardens and the cemetery for that "just one more" cache.
Thank you to all the CO's that made this possible. We all thoroughly enjoyed our day and we will definitely be back to look around some more.

Before leaving Melbourne, we discussed the caches that we wanted to target with OHC and I mentioned that the ones in this area were definitely on my "to do list". Quite a few of them have CO's that we know, they are old caches and we have heard a lot about them.
We had today free so with a few more friends (and two more cars), we headed to Avoca to visit the bakery after re-fuelling in St Arnaud.
Once we had finished our snacks, and introduced our Canadian passengers to the delights of "snot blocks", we were on our way into the bush.
We had a great time exploring the tracks and locating caches. There was only one road that we chose to not attempt but there were more than enough other tracks to get us where we needed to be.
We saw some great views and explored a mine shaft or two. We eventually found our way to civilisation and found a few more caches.
We watched the sky darken quite quickly and it was decided that we would make our way back to Avoca for some dinner and come back another day.
I believe we all enjoyed our dinner and we made our way to the cache at the Chinese Garden and then onto the multi at the cemetery. By the time we got to the cemetery, it was dark and drizzling which definitely added to the atmosphere of caching in a cemetery at night.
From here, we re-inflated our tyres and made our way back to camp at St Arnaud.
Many thanks to all the CO's that placed, maintain and adopted these great caches. We are looking forward to coming back here and doing the caches that we didn't have time for today.
Again, to all the CO's and today's company, Thank You for a great day out.

Out on a geocaching trek with seven others in 3 vehicles to conquer a few geocaches in the Pyrenees State Forest. Chasing some old caches and also some different D/T combinations.
After fueling up we departing St Arnaud at 8:30 in the morning in convoy and headed direct to the pies shop in Avoca where Kangaroo Pies and Snot Blocks were on the agenda for our international guests. We reached our first cache at 10:45 for a quick find, the start of 24 in total for the day. There was some easy driving tracks, a few missed or incorrect turns, some fairly heavy 4x4 tracks and many interesting places were discovered.
By the time we arrived back in Avoca at 6:30 pm for a counter meal at the pub most were weary and needed a meal and beer.
Somewhat revived we headed to the Chinese Garden and the local Cemetery for a couple of quick caches on the way back to St Arnaud, arriving at 9:30 pm.
Thanks everyone for a fun day!
All caches were quick finds by one or another of the group.

Staying in St Arnaud for the week for the mega.
Today we set off for a 4WD day trip to explore this area.
Took one wrong track before the last turnoff, but made it here eventually.
Thanks for bringing us here by placing and maintaining this cache, Team Crackers

Another crazy downhill roller coaster. Loved every minute of it.

The bananas arrived at the top behind 5 other cars, all blocking the way. Higgledy piggledy. 5 various levels of vehicles possibly capable of making the decent.
Were they lost?
Were they seeking treasure?
Don't know.
Didn't ask.
Now without a 4WD the bananas walked. Down there, on a track where a fall could end up such a long way down, covered with enough scratches and bruises to ruin any day.
In superb condition
Wonderful hide.
It was found.
Trekking back up "the undecided" were meeting.
What were they discussing?
Don't know.

5th cache for the Easter long weekend! 4WDriving in the pyranese and camping in the area, couldn't resist going on an adventure to find the nearby geocaches! Found with beaker, ferociousflea and poeleypoel

With expert driving from The Tritonz (I was holding on with my eyes closed), we pulled up and made the find exactly where the hint told us we would find the cache. Thanks Team Crackers for bringing me to a stunning spot, great views on a lovely day.
Was up in the area over the Queens Birthday weekend we would have looked for the cache but we had one of the team with a broken winch so we were to busy getting him up & we forgot to look for it, Next time we will find it.
As previously mentioned we chickened out of driving to this one and took a bit of a stroll to it instead. A quick find and then it was time to tackle that hill oi! Thanks for the hide Team Crackers.
Out and about with Glanville Girls, Wozzle68 & ChooknChunk for a day of caching in the area.
After a lengthy stroll from our chosen parking area I spotted the hide quickly

A plan was hatch today to meet up with chooknchunk, ST37E and Wozzle68 to tackle some of the caches in and around the Avoca region. What a fantastic day we had! This one was one of only a handful that we decided to park the car and make the walk into. The track was a little to steep for me to drive on. After a short walk, this was was quickly located by ST37E. Thanks for placing Team Crackers.
Enjoyed a fabulous day today under clear autumn skies in these beautiful Avoca Hills, in the company of Wozzle68, ST37E and the Glanville Girls.
We came in from the west and chickened out driving the vehicles to GZ, so we parked about 380m up the hill and walked down. Cache in good condition. Thank you for bringing us here Team Crackers.

Lovely way to spend Anzac Day in the Pyrenees. Cache is neatly tucked away and in excellent condition. TFTC
Not quite sure where you parked [?], but we left our vehicle on the track and made a quick find as we headed up the hill today .
Spectacular views [^][^]. TNLNSL.
Glad we didn't take too long, as we soon passed another vehicle coming down a hundred metres up the track .
Thanks again Team Crackers.

Up in Avoca specifically to clean the caches up in the area. Had a thoroughly fun day 4x4 driving through the Pyrenees Ranges enjoying the great vistas and collecting caches, even some unloved ones.
Thanks again for another great hiding spot where our Triton had its work cut out for it.

Another fun track down into a gully, and then back up to the heights again. The low range certainly got a workout this weekend. Stopped and picked up this cache on our way past. TNLN. Cheers
Went to a couple of wineries this morning then decided to go up the hill to find a few caches. Coming from the east this was our 2nd cache, the find was a lot easier than the drive. Haven't had the cruiser in low range until now and it helped going down the hills as much as going up. Took travel bug for a trip to the 2014 mega event in Murray Bridge.

Beautiful weather, 4WD packed, geodog for company on this caching trip. Wowwe it's windy! There's a orange haze over the rangers. Had fun driven down now the fun to drive back up. Great spot, left tb. Thanks
Found it after GeoMum corrected the coordinates and sent everyone to the wrong spot - whoopsie! Lucky we weren't too far off and found it. Took travel bug YZXCDQ and left flower lanyard. TFTC
Certainly, if you approach from the east it's 4 WD territory as there are few spots to turn around (and then only gingerly if at all). Some really steep parts (up and down) and ruts with a few trees down (the track diverts around these), plenty of large rocks and other almost roadblocks. Fine views along the way through the eucalypts as you follow a ridge for most the way. When we came across the cache the last flush of a brilliant, claret coloured sunset was in its gorgeous throes. It may be easier to approach from the opposite direction but I'd not be trying this in a 2 WD. You could park further up (sort of near GCG8DQ) and ramble down to the cache itself or even park closer to Avoca and go for a rollicking walk as I see other Cachers have done (not for the unfit though). It's a sublimely beautiful countryside and a fine introduction to the Pyrenees Range. Another Geocaching delight. Thanks to 'Team Crackers' for the cache and its location. In the company of Dylan 7a (he had the 4 WD), Little Gnome and the indefatigable Morphoist. TNLN.
Found on a geocaching trip with The Quiet Plodder, Morphoist and Little Gnome. TFTC
Long story about this one, better told around a camp fire or elsewhere but the short story is I went up the wrong track, located about 100 to the north of the correct one. Required low first and some imaginative driving to avoid rocks, washaways, ruts, fallen trees until I was about 100 metres from the top and had to turn around because of a tree across the track that was impassable. Headed back down, got on the right track and found the cache quickly, signed the log and returned it to GZ. Thanks Team crackers.
Well, glad we were going DOWN the hill and not UP it. Gollop Tk is definetly a level4 hill climb, our little 4x4 Xtrail was having enough trouble going down the hill, we wouldn't have been able to get up the hill, definetly worth the effort but best approached from the south.
A nice easy quick find.

3rd find of the cache run and 2124th total find at 14:27.
Found in the company of some vehicles from the CityWest 4WD club. Well actually they made us do this cache solo as it was slightly off our planned route. We thoroughly enjoyed the trip up and back, especially as there has been some significant rainfall here in the last few days. (So much so that the stream behind Glenpatrick Common is now flowing - something it hasn't done for around seven years.)
Took: Nothing
Left: Nothing
Thanks Team Crackers for the cache.

Found by Roma and Max.
Weather was still favouring our endeavours as we approached this GZ.
However once again discretion prevailed and the final 400m was achieved on foot.
This certainly would prove to be a challenge for the most capable 4wd in damper conditions.
There had obviously been some moisture overnight as it was still sticky in places!
Good numbers again made for another easy find of this well hidden container.
Left our mark in the log and thank you again Mark and Diane for bringing us back into these lovely bush surroundings, where wild flowers are showing that spring has sprung.

Ah well Team Crackers, this was about 20 metres away from my first FTF!
What were were we thinking? Out of the rain (and the storms of the last few days) we were having fun and did not read the notes! We were heading west with Snips having been bitten by at least 10 bull ants at "Sugarloaf for sure". She was in pain, her pants were off but there was another cache nearby! Silly, silly, silly. As moderate 4wd people, alone, after a storm, we should not have driven up Gollop Track. But we did, and we survived, but we did not get to the cache... after some scary 4wd-ing with me and the kids out of the car (Snips bare from the waist down), we finally were safe. Then off to the cache, but Geo-hubby said, "No more, NO, you are not walking back up the hill - we are going back for a beer – I need it!"
We'll be back when it is dry! Thanks for the adventure none the less!
