Visiting the Mildura area this week with hopes of starting and completing the Paddle Steamer Geoart. Met up with au.fait and decided this was a good spot to consolidate vehicles and head into the park. Of course the lure of a cache was another great reason to stop here. Quick find and log signed. Had a quick read of the area and again was appreciative of geocaching as l would never have known this place existed. TFTC all in good order.
I found this cache as I was heading back home to Adelaide after the Capital Geobash Mega event over Easter.I was travelling solo again and took somewhat of a zig-zag route, following caches of interest. My main focus was on the non-Traditional cache types, although I did find a few others opportunistically. After a bit of rain the first day after leaving Canberra, its been great weather the rest of the time.I hadnt intended to travel home via this cache, but I got sidetracked by a T5 FTF opportunity in the Murray-Sunset National Park and grabbed this one on the way in. I then continued to the FTF, then on to the campground near Mopoke Hut where I camped the night. The cache and contents were in good condition. Thanks reverb for the cache.

Southern Autumn adventure Day 60. Mildura Trip Day 9. The time had come to start heading home, but I did not want to go directly and was keen to visit Echuca to finish the River Travel Adventure labs. It turned into a long day and it started with some detours as I started south to get my first batch of caches done. Then I set out following the navigation device and let me say, it is not the way I would have gone, there were some very narrow roads, but no dirt. I then passed a county I had not been to before, but missed the Map section I needed, that was annoying. My day ended with a walk around Echuca for a few caches and the LABs along the water front. It was well and truly dark by the time I reached my roadside camp for the night.
This short detour showed me a very unusual sight, but was well worth the time.

#12978 - 4:59:00 PM; Day 3 of the Wang Mega tour with Sol de lune. We didn't quite get to Echuca last night, but we did enjoy comfortable accommodation and a great meal at the Falcon Hotel on the highway right next door to the Downunder Dunny. After collecting that cache, we set off for Echuca and a spot of caching in and around the town, avenging a couple of GCA DNFs from our previous visit. We then hit the Murray Valley Highway again as we headed west before turning onto the Mallee Highway near Piangil, then the Calder Highway at Ouyen for our next overnight destination, Mildura. No problems getting our names into the log, before continuing on our mission. TFTC reverb
After a couple of great days in and around Wang at the Mega, followed by a drive to Echuca, LuckyL10n and I were now on the road from Echuca to Mildura. The plan today was to stop for a few selected caches...those that looked good, those with a few favourtie points..as well all the regular and large caches we could find.
Left Echuca around 9.30am, arriving in Mildura around 6.00pm. All caches we attempted were found, apart from the one that was completely burnt out, so all up a good road trip. Now home
and it's time to log.
Thanks to all owners the along the way, and apologies for the generic log.

Thanks for bringing us out here, really interesting to see the ironclad. Cache was very well hidden in a cute little hole. Even though it’s less than a month since its last find, spider had well and truly embraced the cache container.

Passed this spot many times and never knew the tank was there. Great bit of history, thanks team for sending me there and well placed too.
We are returning home to Sydney after a windmill quest to Adelaide. This is one of the more unusual and previously unfathomed things we’ve seen. We would never have come here without geocaching. We thought we came across a broken container but, no, it’s where it should be. A favourite for us. SL TFTC Cheers... Gaztek

TFTC. With regional victorians able to travel we decided to take the opportunity to head to Mildura to attempt the PS series. Sitting at my computer during these Covid lockdowns, I am trying to catch up on a few logs that I haven't sent in yet.
Over the years, geocaching has taken me on many adventures, including interesting destinations all over my home continent of Australia and many overseas as well. It has also introduced me to a diverse group of like-minded caching tragics, many of whom I now call close friends.
Today, I was lucky enough to be out and about searching for caches, something I do on almost a daily basis. This was one cache that was targeted and found.
Sorry for the late log, something I am notorious for. Thank you for adding to the adventure that is geocaching.
Thanks reverb for the cache.

Must have forgotten to log this one yesterday, found on our way home from Lake Cullulleraine, I think we left a hair clip in the container
Suscoe was heading to Mildura this morning from Ouyen and we had a number of caches to visit as we travelled northwards.
It was a delightful day, blues skies, a breeze from time to time and a top temperature in the high 20's.
We enjoyed this section of caches hides and saw some interesting country as we headed along the highway and the byways.

Trip log... GreyHams log says it best, in all its glorious detail... so it really is, 'What he said!'
With GreyHams we set out for another chapter of our caching challenge... To find all the counties in NSW. We flew into Adelaide early Friday morning with a return plane from Melbourne Monday night. Taking advantage of some super cheap car hire driving one way from Adelaide to Melbourne. Of course, as a four day road trip it leads into collecting as many counties as was possible as we pass through SA and Victoria as well, with a few side trips for those that were close enough.
The counties a high priority but many caches of interest, the oldies are always great, about 16 2001 caches found plus many others just as old. Web Cams, virtuals, great DT which would see us complete our fifth loop of the DT grid, large caches and lots of regular sizes too. The trip list also included a cache type of each we were missing for each state as well.
Simply, if we stopped for a cache that had made it onto the list, it was not just any random cache, it was selected for a quality of some type we were seeking.
One of the harder things about caching after flying somewhere is that all the TOTT are left behind...usually! So it just had to be done and we took an esky with us on the plane for all those fabulous cold drinks along the way.
The thing I love the most is that we also took a ladder with us on the plane too!
We had targeted the 'on your bike' wherigo series, so many puzzles, so many hours of them so the ladder was important if we wanted to find all the high DT, up the tree caches... which we did! Later in Ballarat we went 'above and beyond' with the ladder once again. A truly essential item to have, we may now need to invest in that inflatable Kayak for future adventures too!
Perhaps it must be said that our route was the least direct way we could have traveled via the Hay Plains and Griffith, but covered a lot of road, counties and locations leading to yet another great trip. Although a number of park and grabs, made closer by our reliable and tough SUV, we also managed a lot of walks, hills, bush, and just a great variety as we explored the different areas.
We crossed the Murray river many times, a lovely healthy looking river system. After our recent trip from Adelaide to Sydney, via Broken Hill and Bourke the dry rivers out there are a very sad sight compared with the Murray.
With so much achieved that we had set out for it was a very successful trip but also an enjoyable one with many memories made and a new batch of stories too! Thanks to all the CO's for there caches that lead us in our travels.

Aquilus1 and myself are on a mission.... to collect all of the counties in NSW! but how to get to those 'hard to reach' ones from where we are in Canberra? It would be an awfully long round trip. The answer was supplied in the super cheap car rental deals available if you drive one-way from Adelaide to either Sydney or Melbourne... I guess too many cars do it the other way and the cars need to get back somehow. Flying to ADL on points meant fuel was by far the biggest transport cost we paid for.
This trip is actually trip number two.... to drive from ADL to MEL, via Hay & Griffith! Yeah, thats logical! It was fun explaining where we were going to people, we got a lot of strange looks. The first trip was ADL to SYD, via Bourke. The bonus of course is we have also cleaned up a lot of SA & VIC counties as well.
OK, so primary goal is counties but we of course had 5 or 6 goals. Oldies was definitely a priority, I think we picked up 16 hides from 2001 on the trip along with lots of 2002-2006's. D/T of course is never overlooked and we did well there, I think we will almost complete our fifth loop from this trip. Webcams, Virtuals and Wherigo's were all targetted and finally getting all cache types in each state.
Day 1 was us arriving in ADL at sparrows, with a ladder and esky that we checked in and driving as far as Barmera. We cleaned up the 'On Your Bike' series where the ladder really fulfilled its purpose (I never want to see another online jigsaw again!) and even stopped to grab the LBH on the way out.... after 9:30pm, and after I attacked the dirt road with my body and left a lot of skin on it. Note to self: dont lunge at dirt roads! Luckily the hotel in town was open and we obtained fine lodgings. The floor creaked when I looked at it, or breathed, or changed my mind, but the bed was the finest.
Day 2 was driving to Hay, apparently on their biggest day of the year! No motel had rooms but luckily the new hotel that was supposed to open next week was forced into opening on the very day we arrived.... I like fresh sheets but how about a bed that has never been slept in! The crossed the Murray about 5 times and it was always impressive. We saw the country side change hugely from Rivers, Mallee and the Hay plain.
Day 3 was going from Hay, around Griffith and actually turning south towards Melbourne.... it felt like a long way! We cleaned up a bunch of the counties, in fact all of them, west of and including Naranderra. My map on Project-GC is going to look so green! We got as far as the outskirts of Bendigo, stopping at the first Motel we saw.... it was better than it looked!
Day 4 was getting to the airport, which we did with heaps of time to spare. Checkin closed a huge 18 minutes after our arrival. Damn, we could have grabbed another cache in that time. Ladder back in its box and checked in. I love the fact we took our own ladder!
Now safely back at home I am already suffering from caffeine withdrawal, but thats the price you pay for living on Coke for 4 days.
Sorry for the long generic log, but it was a fun trip and I wanted to share.

Wow such an interesting spot. Makes me think my grandfather was probably here at one stage as he worked on the railway lines in this area.
Out driving with muggle friend and she agreed to come along to find a cache with me to get a first hand experience of what I'm always going on about. Well what an experience it was! Neither of us had any idea this interesting piece of history was lying out here just off the highway, we've driving by it a million times! We quickly located the cache and as we were signing the log a car pulls over. My initial guess was the elderly gent may have been a fellow cacher, but no. Turns out he is the man in the image on the info board! His family have farmed the area for generations, and have been an active part in the creation and mantianence of the "tank". He tells me the pump when restored was put in the wrong location and should actually be where the "nowingi ironclad" sign is... It was in that location for ease of access for the horse drawn carriages. We had a great chat about the changes in farming practices and the current resilience of irrigated farming and the resulting environmental impacts of this, such as the current fish kills occurring in the Darling River. He was amazed at the concept of Geocaching and that this one had been here since 2009.
So thanks to the CO for placing this cache, it was a great adventure.

We have been travelling since January when we left Geelong and travelled up the centre to Darwin
Crossed the border into WA at the beginning of May and completed the gibb river road and cape leveque, highlights of our travels
From Broome we have zig zagged from coast to inland and seen and done some amazing things, swimming with whale sharks was indescribable
We have seen so much and when we finally crossed the Nullarbor and got to Port Augusta we decided to go back to Alice Springs to see our daughter who works there
Now we are travelling to Bendigo to see eldest daughter before heading home
Thanks to caching we have seen more than the muggles out there
