Nice spot for a walk, beautiful views, don't pay much attention to that hint, no flax or rocks to look under... instead read other peoples logs for a clue. Thanks for the cache..
Thank you for taking us to this beautiful spot, we enjoyed the sunset from up there.Coordinates and description may need an update, we only found it because we read trough the previous logs.Peter the Penguin (TB) will be traveling with us for a while now.TFTC!
Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I live full-time in our caravan travelling around NZ, visiting the places we want to visit & doing the things we want to do and fitting in a bit of Geocaching here & there currently staying near Ngatea for a few days we had decided that we would drive over to Thames & investigate some of the Mining History to be found there thought wed visit this historic Cemetery, so we parked up at the freedom Camping area & then walked down the verge of the main road, mindful of the cars wizzing past & then, oh those steps magnificent views (for all eternity) for the inhabitants here & the nesting birds in the nearby trees were a bonus this cache was, finally, located, albeit after Mrs McMike2012 read some of the previous logs, especially the one referencing the big log which provided the necessary info, log completed & replaced, but not before dropping off a TB (Peter the Penguin) Mrs McMike2012 thought this deserved a Favourite Point, so here it is more than pleased to add this 'smiley face' to the tally TFTC ... TN:LN:LS #5,602 for Us!
Found cache but nowhere near the clue or coordinates? Beautiful Vista tho. Thanks
Thanks kiwigary and G2 took a while to find but in the end found it. great sea view.
TFTF co ordinates were a bit off but follow some of the other comments and bingo
Accio 13:30:49After a strenuous mountain climb a couple days ago, and a quieter driving day yesterday, Stairman1 and I went looking for a fresh adventure today. 3 perfect sunny cool days in a row has made this trip truly stunning. And today we are here! WOW so many steps to get up here - wanted to curl up next to James! Found the cache "in the obvious spot", not quite as per hint - but well covered so we didn't see it for a while.such views. wowThanks KiwiGary and G2 for entertaining me at this location. *{Overall find #12334}*
Found with Pprime here today. Views from up here were great. The locals here very quiet thankfully. We took some time to locate this one which turned out to be quit near the big log. The co ords were not that great.TFTC
**#17608** Visiting the Coromandel Peninsula we stopped here for the **Restful with great sea views (Coromandel)**It was raining , so no great views, but I liked this historic place with a cache! Thanks KiwiGary for the contribution to the game by this cache. TFTC
great historic place, as always, without caching we wouldnt have stopped here.found a box (the box??), but couldnt open it.Thanks for the cache - team bycycle
Last 3 weeks in NZ for me, having a good time exploring Coromandel. Now thats a last home with a view!Tftc!
Thanks for your amazing cache. I really appreciate the time you took to set up and maintain your caches. Me thinks the cache is more like 6 foot from the grave. Great walk from the car park. Have added an expanded photo of a kayak taken from the cemetery. Has earned a favorite from me Cheers, Cympull.
Decided to park down the road and walk up. Around 150 steps later. ?? ?? You just have to count them when you see them. Great view up here. Interesting wander around. Enjoyed coming here. Fav added. Tftc.
Easily located once the correct grave was found, well uphill from where the GPS zeroed. Lovely day, lovely walk. Thanks for giving me a reason to come to this special place and a favourite from me.
What an awesome little spot. Thanks for bringing us here.
Had to search for a while to find cache however once we checked previous logs was a very easy find thank you

Co-ordinates weren't helping so read through some logs. Wasn't sure about the hint as previous finder talked about a fallen tree. This was very helpful. Fav point for the adventure to get up all these steps. Great view.. Parking not great either but we went north & turned around & backed up the road a bit. Tftc
A bit of a steep and slippery walk up here, but views worth it. Hunted for a while to find James McLean. When we did cache found but not really as per hint. Tftc
Visiting Thames and surrounding area so walked up so many steep steps to sign this one. Great views!! Dropped of TB. TFTC
What a site for a resting place. It was peaceful and quiet today, and of course beautiful.
*Filser1* and I have been looking for this cache for a very long time. Finally we had the container in our hands.

On our way TEMBO! and I managed a stop at "Restful spot with great sea views" we spoted the cache after a search and a hint from a prelogger.
So my hint is: Not that far from the grave and not under a stone.
.
Thanks to KiwiGary and G2 for hiding and maintaining the cache.

Staying nearby and out for a morning coffee walk. Stretched the legs uphill 150 steps to this old cemetery. The bottom part of the track has been washed away in parts, and some steps covered with mud, but having good traction with my outdoor shoes. Cache all dry, signed and replaced as found. Thanks for bringing me up here. A lovely view.
New Zealand North Island - Day 4
Found with Joolay on a trip to NZ to find the GeoTour. .
We parked at the beach carpark and made the short walk to the short cemetery driveway. Then up a lot of steps to make an easy find as per the hint in a recent log. Took us about 20 minutes to get back to the car. Thanks for the cool cache KiwiGary

Rain was relentless till it came time to walk up and then it eased up. Still very wet. Would have been lovely in a sunny day.
Day 4 and loving the chance to explore.
So exciting to be heading to NZ. Have not been to the NI so looking forward to exploring. Did not make it to the last Mega because of Covid so wonderful Kittykatch and I can get here now.
Thanks for getting me out and about KiwiGary

This is my fourth geocaching excursion to **beautiful New Zealand**!
Due to Covid [xx(] I had to wait for 3 long years to again return to my beloved [:X] Middle-Earth.
This time its a road trip enduring for 26 days, covering both North- and South-Island.
The focus is on visiting old treasures, highly favourited caches [^] as well as rare D/T-combinations to complete the matrix .
This geo-treasure contributed to the finds of today. Cool! [^]
What a view from the place [^] - this makes up for the effort to reach it ...
A big thanks [:X] to the owner for hiding and maintaining this old cache [^] - and best regards from Germany !

Since I’m staying across the road I thought I’d better claim this one. Beautiful morning with an amazing view, cache is now underneath a fallen tree but accessible.

Awesome view!! Was a bit of a challenge getting here had to park at the campground near by and walk but found quite quickly
Found Christmas Day with Zayn2016. I’m surprised I made it up the hill. Took us quite a while to find the cache. Beautiful views up here. Had a good look around the cemetery. Some interesting history. TFTC
CAUTION - There is an creamy/white semi-buried urn near the location which we thought was the cache as cache is described as shoebox size. Cache is sandwich box size. Have covered the urn with rocks

After a dnf here back in January, we thought we'd give it another go today. About to give up again and reached a bit further, there it is! Tftc and views!
Wife found the headstone quickly, I went in the opposite dirrection ha ha ha. Eventually found 'in the obvious place', and not according to the hint. But fantastic views to be had!! Found with Reny90
We parked along the road and walked back to the driveway. Then up the steps. Great history.
Replaced container and log.
Replaced container and log.
We decided to park along the road and walk to the cache as it was a bit hairy at parking co-ords. Lots of steps up so we were huffing and puffing a bit when we reached the top. There is only one place the cache could be and it wasn’t there but we did find the swag that a previous cacher had put in when she replaced the container. Knowing the CO hasn’t been active for awhile we took the liberty of replacing the cache and added the swag we found as it would be such a shame for this cache to be archived as it is an interesting cemetery with lots of history and a fantastic view. The cache is in the obvious place well covered with bark so hopefully it will stay there.
Needed to take the car for a drive today to charge the battery and also had a few others things to do along the way. This cache was the main target for the day, spent a bit of time looking around the area where the new coordinates appeared to be pointing but no luck. Not too sure now but something doesn't appear to be quite right here?
Found 3 toys that looked like probable cache contents by another James, but no container. Suggest this needs looking at.
Last day of our holiday in Coromandel and now heading down to Rotorua. Had spare time to stop for caches close to the road. Parked in the reserve nearby. Walked to the cemetery including the 200 steps up the wooden walkway. What an amazing place. Great views and so hidden away. Had to read previous logs and ignore the hint to make the find. Happy to add to the favourites. Thanks for the smiley.
didn't realise there was a space to park just opposite so walked from motel in Tararu. Ignoring hint and using from previous logs made for a quick find. Cache in good condition, now filled with swag
Popped up here before walking the Rockies track. Neat little spot. So much to look at.
We parked across the road with evilC for a bot of a breather on our drive, when he noticed the location and suggested, there must be a cache there! And there was! So up we went in search of the treasure, but were really struggling to locate it until we read previous logs that shed light on the true location. TFTC!!!
Found with Hinemoana as we headed south after an enjoyable stay on the Coromandel penninsula. We started off looking in a spot far from where it was hidden and needed to check previous logs to get closer. A fascinating spot to visit. Thanks!
Roadtrip time, day 6.
I have used the Easter weekend combined with taking 4 days leave this week to get in a 9-day driving tour, hoping to get as far north as 90 mile beach in order to seek the recently published PWGT caches throughout Northland, as well as catch up with 4 different sets of friends.
Having travelled down from Auckland to the Coromandel yesterday, it was time now to reverse course and head back up to Northland. By tonight I would be in Waipu, but I had a full days caching before I could rest.
So having spent last night in my tent staying at the Te Puru Holiday park, this was my first cache for today. I decided to park at the ample carpark about 200m from the start of the climb here and walk back. The new(ish) staircase is pretty good, and in no time at all I was amongst the graves. A bit of a weird place to bury people was my first impression, but I guess they were using this land for anything else at the time.
The search itself took longer than it should, mainly because the co-ords are a bit out and I would suggest to future seekers that they would do better at S37° 06.362 E175° 31.142. In addition, the cache is not hidden in accordance to the current Hint. I found it about 3m away from James, hidden under the obvious hiding spot (don't want to give it away completely).
There are no issues to report with either the cache or the log, so after signing the whole thing was replaced back exactly as found.
Thanks for placing this cache.

Parked along the road and walked back. The entrance here was baracaded by temp fencing warning not to enter. But The Seagnoid thinks thats not for him so we go round the obsticle and up the stairs. Finally track down Janes and the cache. Replaced soggy log here to help this one along. Cheers .
Day 5 - Tuesday 22 December -Paritu Bay, Coromandel, Thames and back to Coromandel by dark Left Zara resting in Coromandel while we went exploring with Toby. Loved Driving Creek Railway today.
The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and I are off on another geocaching escape over Xmas, this time to the mighty Coromandel, then over to Opotiki and stop off at Rotorua to return home on 5 January. Had an fabulous time exploring many wonders of our country. Rounding up over 400 caches along the way, with a few LABS, 20 odd TMGTs, virtuals and lots of interesting earth caches to keep the mind busy. Watching the sun come up on New Years Day at Mt Maunganui was spectacular. Lots of walking and even more driving. But had an awesome time. Thanks to all COs who made this adventure so special.

Found the entrance road - it had a do not cross barrier, but no explaination as to why, so we crossed anyway. Stars up appeared to be strong and stable. And at the top... a cemetery! Strange place to put a cemetery! But yes, great views! There has been a lot of work with a weedeater here, the flax bush is gone and the cache is now 3m from James, and about 15 m from the coordinates. - Hmm - now that I am logging this - Could this be a G-2 Cache? Ah, it is, that explains the wildly inaccurate coords. Later I would learn to always get the hint of a G-2 cache before approaching GZ as the coords could be accurate or up to 30 m out - and there seemed to be no pattern to this.
I hate death euphemisms. No one here is resting. Or sleeping.
Taybeedragon and I went on a tour of the Coromandel - one of the few places of New Zealand, especially of Te ika a Maui, that I have yet to explore throughly, and from there along the coast to Opotiki to see one of my many, many sisters. From 18 December to 5 January we found over 400 caches, including 12 adventure labs (60 caches), 20 or so TMGTs and a host of virtuals and earthcaches. And I hosted an event to see the sun come up on New Year's day - surprisingly popular given that it was at 5am. We climbed a lot of hills, saw some amazing beaches that were quite popular despite (or because of) the insane access to them, walk a lot of bush, entered and explored 8 gold mines and generally had an awesome time. However I am glad to be back, but now is the hard part, and I fear it will take just as long - logging!

Out and about for a few days for a bit of a road trip around the Coromandel area. Day Two of my road trip. I started my travels in Thames and ended my day in Whitianga. What a shame that this area is in such a state of disrepair. Looks like mother nature is taking over. I made my way up carefully to GZ and spotted the replacement cache on approach. Signed the log and replaced as found. TFTC, Biggles.
Quick walk up the stairs, top ru g affected by minor wash out of slope above. Had a hard time tracking down the logbook. Eventually looked under the fallen tree and found it and other cache items but no container. Put together as much as I could and found another container(s) to put everything into. Next finder bring a box if you can. Great view, thanks for placing.
Thanks to my travel buddy for finding this! And thanks to the CO for this spot with that view and interesting lifetime stories
I had 3 reasons for coming to the Thames coast today....
One was to find this cache which I didn't find while here in the semi darkness in May!
Don't know how I missed it before!
I had noticed in the log photos that the container was broken and had holes...
So I have donated my new fancy lunchbox as a replacement ...and added toys.
I am curious to know how coffins and headstones were brought to the Tararu Cemetery as my phone map doesn't show roads at the top....
And 148 steps each way....

Enjoyed a neat evening walk up to this site..magnificent view out across the Firth...cache found log good but container showing signs of age ...signed the log and replaced as found...a lot of history up here RIP
I've been fascinated with this cemetery since it came to my attention. When the big slip occurred I was still keen to give it a go, but never got up this way. Today Macwatt guided us to a Freedom camping spot very close by. Gotta go!! We had found a 3/5 cache yesterday so this was a nice evening stroll lol. At gzish there were a few possibilities and the huge tree that had fallen was a bit of concern. However the clue worked a treat and cache soon uncovered. Poor container has certainly had a hard time and could tell a tale or two I'm sure. Amazing how some memorials have stood the test of time and others are crumbling away. We spent a bit of time wandering around and looking at the headstones. Checked out what looks like the original entrance gates, now going into thin air. Thanks for the cache KiwiGary and G2.
Decided to head over this way to pick up some TMGT series

What a place! Hard to imagine how they transported everything up here, including those who are buried here... The cache is easier to find with some of the vegetation removed but has suffered. I only had a very small piece of paper that I could put in as a spate log sheet. TFTC!
Beautiful spot. Found the cache, no log. Looks like it's been hit by a weed whacker.
Stayed the night nearby so thought I would get this cache before I left. Good walk to the site. Followed hint but no luck. The site has been cleaned up recently. Measured out the distance but still no luck. Looked under many stones but nothing
Was down this way recently...and thought this would be a lovely peaceful one to finish on before driving back to Auckland.
Unfortunately I felt around under flax bushes and stones near the grave ...but had no luck finding the cache.
Lots of stairs too....and was a bit spooky with the Danger sign mentioning slips and falling trees .
Got some lovely photos though!

First we ignored the 'no entry' sign to be rewarded with great views. Lovely spot, we just wonder how they go the residents up here... TFTC
Fantastic lookout, although access officially forbidden, Best photographic motives, best sunset. Thanks for showing us this place!

I'm from Switzerland and spend 4 months in New Zealand on vacation. Found this cache after a few minutes search, thanks.
On a big mission to get a pile of caches so I can land my 7000th cache on either Mnt Ruapehu or Mnt Ngauruhoe on the 16th March! Hoping, weather permitting, that rustynz can join me for her 5000th cache as well on the same day. A bit of planning going into this I can tell ya!
My second visit here, which was a DNF but today I seemed to follow the instructions more clearly and before you know it I had the dilapidated cache in hand. I forgot to bring up those steps some spare paper to add to the cache so just took a foto instead.

What a fantastic view. I absolutely love old grave yards, and I’ve never seen one with such a view. Perfect sunset, as well!
As for the cache itself: urgent attention is needed. The side is smashed and the notebook is missing. We did our best to cover it back up with a nearby stone which one may classify as flat from a certain angle.
Location 10. Cache 3.
Overall experience 9 minus sand flys.

well i went up this to this one as my Great great grandparents and their siblings etc are all buried up here. but the the area is over grown once again (it was cleared about 8 years ago when we visited and took photos) and finding the cache is pretty impossible.. just like great grand parents graves.
What an absolutely great spot on earth.
Unfortunately the fallen tree and the overgrowing bush makes it impossible to find the cache.
But anyway it was worth to climb up.

Many times we have driven this way and wondered how to get to this cache. When we did finally figure that out, the BIG STORM hit the Coromandel and the track was washed away and subsequently closed for several months. Today when we parked at Tararu for the night we noticed not only was the track open again but there was a brand new entranceway and a brand new hand rail. So we had to make the effort in spite of the last cacher logging a DNF. We made our way up the endless stairs to the cemetery and found the hint item. Then we had trouble. There were not many flax bushes around, but there were many flat rocks, including those with bony things underneath them. Can you imagine how hard it was in the past to carry a coffin up that hill for burial. Those old pioneers were hardy folk. They did not have a staircase with a handrail for assistance. Meanwhile the shags were nesting overhead in the pine trees and Mrs S got bombed. YUK. We hunted here and we hunted there, then we hunted somewhere else and finally Mr S's persistence paid off with a find. YAH. Its taken a long time to do this one and there was no way we were going to DNF if we could help it. We were not keen on mounting all those stairs again. Later on our way down again we watched the shags feeding their young and reinforcing their nests. Fabulous. Worth the effort to climb and find just to watch that.
Thanks KiwiGary and G2, for an awesome cache and an awesome view. Have a FAV.

Lots of small flax bushes but not a stone in sight unless it was hidden under the long growth. Looked for a while but then had to head back to town.
Cemetery is now open again with a new handrail built for the steep staircase. Coordinates seem a little out but the clue will help. GZ is a bit overgrown. Beautiful day up here and a great spot to visit.
The track up the hill has been severely damaged and there is now a very high fence and locked gate barring access. Perhaps this should be disabled until the track is repaired.
Due to landslips and storm damage the cemetery was not open for the public today...
Driven past this spot a few times previously but today we were adamant we were going to find this one. Again, we drove past looking for a safe spot to park and in the end, parked a couple of hundred meters back up the road in the pullover area and walked back.
Not really sure what we were in for, we headed up the steps toward GZ. Not far from the top, we quickly worked out what the stench was that was making us gag repeatedly. Trying to catch your breath and gagging at the same time really takes it out of ya!!
Not really sure on whether to carry on our go back.. but all i can think of was that the cache needed to be found. We carried on hoping for a quick find and praying not to be shat on from above. We looked in a few places, really hoping not to have to touch the vegetation and we found it!! A very quick sign of the log and we were out of there!
Wow, never have i ever experienced something quite like that smell before!! Very glad we don't have to come back here again!

A quick stop as we head off for a late January road trip. Heading off around the Coromandel. A steep walk to get some stunning views. Tftc
#8698, 13:36,
During our holidays in Newzealand we searched some Caches.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this box
arbor95
Together with arbor95 I am on a holiday tour in New Zealand.
We are two Germans, old friends since a long time. Together we visited a lot of other countries in the past, even before we started geocaching. [^]
For our trip we usually looking for some extraordinary caches.
Therefore we had mostly a lot of fun.
First we looked at the coords and than for the grave and there it was.
Thank You very much for this geocache, for the challenge and for the maintaining.
Greetings from tripleclaus to KiwiGary.

Found during a clockwise circumnavigation from Tairua to Thames to Coromandel and back, primarily to gather info for the Coromandel Cemetery Circuit multi.
Although this cemetery wasn't a required stop for the multi, the description was intriguing and I love cemetery caches so it was a must-visit.
The terrain wasn't as steep as predicted, and I was initially wondering what all the bad smell fuss from previous logs was about...and then it hit me. Yikes.
Luckily the excellent hint led me straight to the cache. Beautiful view indeed. TFTC

6.40pm - Had tried to find this cache months ago in the dark without success. This time daylight was on our side so made the climb back here again. Were not put off by all the bird droppings as I was determined to find this cache today. After a search and carefully following hint I found it. SLTFTC
With Gap (of Fap and Gap)... Completed a job at Tairua Marina, so now it's caching, game on...
Heading back down the coast toward Thames... This was WOW on so many levels (no pun intended). This was our first daylight visit (after Gap had a hunt one night...). The stairs went up, up, and up. The views from the top were amazing. The only thing to kill the vibe was the stench of thousands of bird droppings.
The bird reek is everywhere. That really puts a dampener on the search. Gap was not to be deterred, and found this well hidden baby after a lengthy search. Not big on cemetery caching, and we are glad to knock this one off. TFTC.

Found the flat stone and the hidey hole underneath but sadly no cache may have been muggled??

všechno jsme 5x prohledali a nic jsme nenašli, kromě dvou podezřelých prázdných míst
ovšem výhled je úžasný, tady by se mi taky líbilo ležet

On holiday with sveppi. Left the campsite in Te Aroha early-ish this morning. Our target it Pinnacles Hut but we have plenty of time. Sveppi notices this intriguing cache with interesting D/T rating just our to Thames so we decide to investigate. First we nearly get taken out by a car behind us who thought I indicated to let it pass but I really wanted to turn off into the carpark. Realised the park was more like a narrow, steep lane and put the SUV in 4WD. Then we negociated the guano-covered environment to GZ and was hesitant to touch anything to search. Got there in the end, but the stench and forever fear of getting bombed from above made us leave the place a lot faster than the CO probably intended when they placed the cache! TFTC and another adventure to remember!
Oh my god what a smell..... I am more or less used to bad smells (work on a farm, live with a vet)... but really this is pungent. Nice view but we didn't hang around for long. A short search turned up the goods but now I feel like I need to wash my hands!! TFTC
