Cache 1855 I headed to Riverton today to find the closest earthcache I havent found and thought why not clean up a few caches while Im in the area, so around the bay I went making a beeline for the penguin caches first then back up the hill for the two remaining caches here, to the lookout first then I made my way to this one, I love the balancing rock, quick find but had to add plastic RITR paper as the old log was mush T4TC
A fantastic long weekend in the south with lots of caches! I am grateful to all CO's for keeping me entertained for hours!
The track was a bit longer and much more slippery than anticipated, but I did not miss my flight (just) and I am glad I found this one. Epic spot!! TFTC!!
South Australia is the place be for GCA1DNA - MEGA - February 29th, 2024 in Adelaide! Hope to see you at The Great Leap Forward!

This is my fourth geocaching excursion to **beautiful New Zealand**!
Due to Covid [xx(] I had to wait for 3 long years to again return to my beloved Middle-Earth [xx(].
This time it's again a road trip enduring for 26 days, covering both North- and South-Island.
Arrived in the furthest South, I made an excursion to Monkey-Island and to the Clifden Bridge, to collect two more precious 'Oldies' [:X] of the South Island .
On the way, I made some nice finds .
This geo-treasure contributed to the finds of today. Cool! [^]
Walked the loop counterclockwise ... Clockwise would have been ultra-exhausting [xx(]!
At GZ, all was wet . So I added a new, dry logsheet - hopefully this helps
A big thanks to the owner Tokalosh [:X] for hiding and maintaining this cache [^] - and best regards from Germany !

Lovely day for a walk - not such a big walk as I thought it would as we came down from mores reserve. Although this trail is starting to close in so can take a slightly longer hike down the te araroa trail to the beach.
Forgot to bring a pen and the 4 other people with me didn't have one either so just some photos
TFTC and bringing me here

What a beautiful walk and view. We were all by ourselves here. As soon as I walked past these boulders I knew this was a perfect location for a geocache. Bingo! Tftc!
Submitted via Garmin Live Geocaching, thanks enjoyable walk to cache. Thanks for maintaining.
Slipped over once, should have grabbed my trekking poles out of the car. Sheep in the paddock so went nice and slow and looked at the sights TFTC
Just flip flopped around but I found it.
Great walk. Balancing rock is impressive.

Whheeep what a walk down hill, but t'was nothing to the walk uphill lol. So glad it was a grey old day. Had to try avoiding two parties of muggles, wery busy down there. Thanks for leading me here and thanks for the cache.
Te cache was heavily guarded by sheep! And as they are bad guards, they just ran off and we were able to log it
On the way down towards the beach, we noticed a lot of animal footprints in the sand. Getting closer to GZ, we saw to whom they belong to: a herd of sheep which ran away from us. Finding the cache was a piece of cake. TFTC Tokalosh!

Awesome track and great views. Nice and warm summer day and we stayed good time at nearby beach. Also huge boulder just next to the cache. TFTC.
With muggly hubby off on a motorbike ride I decided to skip the overdue housework and cross some more 'nearby' caches off my list. With any luck today's trip will see Riverton covered in smilies except for the earthcache, though as this is just #2 of 5 it might be wishful thinking.
Again today the GPS is behaving, and once I had negotiated my way to GZ it was an easy find.
Next challenge is to make my way back Up 200m climb to the car park. That could take a while, but I'm telling myself it can't be any harder than shirt tail rock on Kingston. Wondering if I should have moved the car and walked in on the flat. Too late now!
Update - just 30min to get back to the car - definitely a better option than 45 min the other way. And with all the walking I've done over the last month I didn't feel my heart beating in my head until nearly back at the fork to the lookout. Then it was downhill again. Yay. I should have taken a pic of the map at the beginning of the track and would have known just how to make this a Loop Track. The signage is rather lacking a key points, yet in the middle, with no forks in the track is at least one sign reminding you which track you are on.
Thanks for the smilie.

Great find I could just see out line of Stewart island grabed it when sheep looked away tftc
Took the coastal track down and when over the fence and through scrub did the rookie error to take the short cut direct to the GZ. Came to a thick bushed gully so backtracked down to beach. Soon found ans as a bottom of King track went up that way to complete loop. Total time taken 65mins. It's a bit of a climb up the hill. Last time I was here was when the king track was being developed and it was a real bog. Good track now. Tftc
Have walked these tracks before. Took the king track down to the GZ and found the pot. SL and returned to hide. TFTC
Found during a short walk from the car park to the beach and back. Strong winds today...

We were out for a walk and decided to check on the cache there was no pen to sign the log
Two weebeanz helped me locate the cache while the eldest two scrambled the boulder nearby. Grabbed a bug. TFTC
Found it, man what a walk down hill, my legs are feeling like jelly, stunning tho and the views from GZ are amazing, thanks for bring us here.
Mores Coastal track is indeed a lovely easy loop, through native bush with birdsong everywhere. The pestbusters are doing a good job! We paused for blackberries and enjoyed the beach scenery, then found the cache at a spot with a perfect view of Balancing Rock. Picked a beer bottle out of the first possible crevice and took it away. The last time we came here we walked along the coast from Howells Point. Good to see that Te Araroa pathway now continues along the coast to Tihaka.
Found it during my kiwi traveling around south island. TFTC

Many thanks for the great walk, bottom half of the track was very wet, but the weather was lovely with great views.-Bitsprayer
Pretty amazing area to walk through, did a wee detour to GCVJ6G and then set out on my mission for the day. As I walked along I began to wonder why I did this to myself but after the slipping and slithering the views on the other side were pretty amazing! This was a great walk through an area that presented everything a great ramble contains and because of this I will be using this as one of my rambles towards the Ramblers Reward.
Thanks

On a wet windy day with not a lot happening around the house, Fred suggested to me that we should go for a walk over to balancing rock so she could show me what they had done at school Yesterday. Little old me said right fred put on your rain coat and we will go and check it out and do loopy on the way. After a nice little bush walk and stroll through a couple of paddocks with long grass in them we were wet up to the knees, which was expected. We were having fun. Once in the gz we headed in opposite direction for a short time solely so we could do some beach combing, once completed we headed back in general direction of cache, which was found after we all had a go at seeing if we were strong enough to push balancing rock off its perch. Then it was back down to the beach for some more exploring with fred leading. looking at my watch I had to give the crew a round up as we only had about 30 mins of daylight left. We started to head towards Kings track and Fred pipes up we went this way yesterday mum, after debating with her I finally followed her up a steep slope only to find out we were in the totally wrong place to get back to Mores reserve. We ended up trekking back down the mountain only to have to climb it again on the right track, this time doing the bush walk in the dark with the aid of cell ph for a torch we finally made it back to the car laughing all the way. tftc
We can highly recommend this cache to anyone to give it a go, the walk only took us 1 hour and that was with a few photo stops. Fantastic views of the sea and coastline. It was lovely to hear the tuis in the bush. Cache was any easy find. No one else around except a few curious sheep. TFTC.
Lovely walk. Has quite a few ups and downs. The time (2 hours) stated on the info board about the walk is very generous. We did it in one hour. Beautiful views. Day was a bit wet but heaps of fun with wethreefourdices.
great walk, found it after going over lots of ups and downs. beautiful veiws too
Out for a run after caching all day around the west southern scenic route.
Nice going in but a lot of up coming back out. Cache well named. Decided not to trade the woolly sheepskin at GZ. Some other cacher may be tempted. TFTC
Just on 30min car to car - only one slip into my butt on the way down! Awesome spot, love the sea crashing on to the shore! Thanks.
Saved this one for 500. A very dear friend was one of the founders of the Aparima Pestbusters, and worked quite hard at More's Reserve, bringing back the birds.
What a great walking track! Thoroughly enjoyed the scenery to and from the cache site. Swapped a chipmunk for the jandal keyring.
Decided to do this solo effort late this afternoon. Enjoyed the walk to the cache although the walk down was just slippery enough. The hump back up the hill wasn't too much of a deal and was back at the top of the hill in 45 minutes just as it was getting dark. A beautiful spot with awesome views. TNLN TFTC [^]
slid down to this awesome spot......obviously a favorite walk with the locals going by the people we met
First of the day....lovely walk even though we left a gorgeous sunny day in Invercargill and then drove straight into cloud.
We took the GC as it has been there for a few months and thought we'd better get it moving again.

Nice walk down the hill from the lookout and quite a climb back up but well worth it the views are awesome. The balancing rock is amazing and I sat and thought for a while about how it got there. Took a couple of pics which I have added. TFTC

This one I saved for my 100th cache. I went down from the Hilltop Lookout track and then came back up via the Kings Track - MUCH less strenuous. TFTC and the lovely views! Took Cals Slug - to be placed in my new cache!
took the wee girls to visit again and dropped off a TB. had an awesome time in the sea!! TFTC
An interesting walk, and the balancing rock is certainly different. We did the loop anticlockwise, in 45 minutes. Some of the signage is a little strange - we went left at the stile on the way down. TFTC
Fantastic place for a cache. The track names, maps and signs make no sense at all though. We went up the lookout track, took the unsignposted branch to the right down to the bizarrest sign ever. We went right then branched left down the hill and walked along the beach. We came back via the right-hand set of markers, guessing left when it branched and became (we think) Kings Track. Tftc
A nice leg stretch, early in the morning before helping as an official witht he Southland Marathon, from Riverton to Invercargill.
Well did this on the way home but Mrs G didn't go right to the bottom as had to reserve her strength to get back to the top! Mr G went all the way down TFTC

A great day to do this cache, havn't been down this way for many years and the terain seems to have got a bit steeper since then. Enjoyed the walk and had lunch on the beach.
