Archiving this one as parking and bank aren't really safe any more...
Was never really happy with this one...

18-Jan-22
I had been eyeing up taking an excursion along Moonshine Valley for a while, and this evening I finally got around to doing it, in the company of the Seagnoid, in order to try to boost my numbers a little closer to 5000 before the Mega this coming Saturday in Auckland.

This would be our last cache for the evening, on the homeward stretch back towards the Hutt Valley. Sadly for us, it also proved to be our 2nd DNF . We spent about 15-20 minutes searching the obvious location, and quite a few not so obvious including scrambling down the bank! But all in vain.

I enjoyed driving this road though, so thanks for encouraging me to visit.

Alas, no find here. I think I know where it was, but that part of the wall collapsed some time ago. There is nowhere much I would want to put the cache where the wall is stable - it is all rotten rock. I recommend the CO visit this and review it.

18-Jan-22
Will check on cache shortly...

What a cool spot! In the dark I had to fight off many spiders. TFTC!

Out and about in this area today, and stopped here for what was a quick find after I made the requisite 'leap'. All good here, TFTC.

After the recent find of the this cache I figured it was time for another go. I combined the mission with another CrystalFairy cache which I'd found just prior. I arrived at a familiar spot, stopped in the large convenient area off the road, got out of the car and had the cache in my hands within 10 seconds. Huh?! I absolutely looked in the right place before but for whatever reason I didn't look hard enough or dig deep enough or something. Or maybe the previous finder made it easier. Anyway, great to be able to convert this to a smiley. The cache is in great shape for one that is now pushing 10 years old. I see no maintenance performed in the online logs and the logbook has a decent history in it (although I forgot to check if it goes back to the FTF).

TFTC.

05-Jan-19
We looked and looked for this one and finally found it in the first and most obvious place we looked (didn’t check hard enough!) TFTC

02-Oct-17
Got to within 2 metres of the cache coordinates only to find a rock fall, so we think it the cache is under it - we did look at others possible hides holes. TFTC for putting the cache here which made us drive along this road.

Caching with RosalieNZ completing the 100, 10, 7 Challenge.

I found a hide which seemed like a reasonable candidate but I couldn't find the cache. I wonder how long it will be before someone else confirms its presence given there's been no logs for a while.

An easy find.

#1987. I came up the Moonshine Valley to locate a Cyclops. Mission accomplished. Then headed off to do a few local traditional caches on the way back home. This one was a diversion but picked it up anyone. After a long dry summer, not much faith was needed today for the big leap. Would have needed a lot more faith if it was on the other side of the road. Spied the likely hiding spot and soon had the cache in hand. All good here. Signed the log and returned as found. Thanks for the cache.

Wasn't quite sure what to expect here, but cache quickly located and signed. Made a nice spot for a cuppa before moving on. Found on our "off the beaten track" adventure through the Akatarawas, Paekakariki Hill and Moonshine Valley. tftc and a great day out.

Tftc and happy new year.

I was intrigued by the description for this cache and just had to check it out while in the area. A nicely placed cache in a lovely area - thanks very much.

Of course I glanced with trepidation at the wrong side of the road first, before investigating the correct area. It won't be long before that leaning pine takes a final leap which would make a dramatic log entry.
I located what I thought was the cache's hiding place and LEAPT! The gap was HUGE and water ROARED beneath my feet as I SOARED and dropped onto the far side. Perched on the sloping ground I scrambled to uncover the cache, my eyes flicking back to the muddy depths. Log signed and cache carefully restowed I JUMPED! Whew. No wet feet and I was out of there, sweat pouring off my forehead, legs a-tremble. TFTC CrystalFairy!

Quick find will daughter was at horse riding just back down the road. TFTC.

18-Jan-15
No leap of faith for us on this one, we've learned to trust GPSr and instincts - finally! Appreciated the good place to stop too. Tftc

13-Jan-15
Very interesting title and description had us all quite intrigued while doing a quick cruise through the valley on a hot summers day. We were initially looking on wrong side of the road which had us all feeling a little nervous however once the GPS settled, so did out nerves and cache was soon in hand. SLTFTC

Braved the drive over the hill from the Hutt Valley. Really very pleasant once you reach the top. The GZ was certainly calling out for a cache. TFTC.

03-Oct-14
As I was out this way (sort of), I decided to search this out to numb the pain of the previous DNF. I braved the raging torrent to scale the mountainside (Yeah right), and soon had it in hand! Dropped A GC off as I was determined to get rid of it as I had held onto it for too long. TFTC.

30-Aug-14
Found on a >41 hour non-stop geo roadtrip from Wellington to Auckland via Cape Palliser and a whole bunch of skinny winding Wairarapa roads, in the esteemed company of slieschke, mike-miss and cretti. We picked up our rental car, dubbed the Idiot Box, and assumed our new identity as Team CRT, shortly after 8am at Wellington Airport and headed north.

We first headed to Porirua Harbour to take on the resident Kiwi geo art trail before heading over to the southern Wairarapa and Cape Palliser where we visited the light house at about midnight and tried our best to avoid seals while searching for a few caches along the southern most shore line of the North Island.

We headed up past Greytown and Carterton, focussing on caching areas west of SH2 this trip. There were some highlight caches, particularly around Carterton (I think) and some way up in the hills looking over the whole area from Masterton to Martinborough.

It was daylight again by the time we hit Masterton and we decided to hit fast forward and skip a planned area (will just have to come back again!) and shot through to Palmerston North where we got back into the swing of things.

We took the back-road up to Mangaweka, discovering some really fanstastic little places along the way, like a picnic area and waterfall way down in a canyon, and then we continued via Taihape, across and up through Owhango, to get some really old caches, and then north through Te Awamutu and back to Auckland to drop off the Idiot Box at the airport.

And of course, despite it then being after 1am on Monday morning, and raining kinda heavily, slieschke and I couldn't resist driving over to the North Shore for an FTF on a cache published earlier in the evening.

Thanks to all the cache owners along the way, even if we couldn't find your cache - all part of the adventure! Sorry for the copy/paste log, but just too many caches to remember *all* of them individually.

What a lovely picturesque little valley through here - so glad we decided to follow this backroad through to the Hutt Valley instead of just going over the main road.

Found after more of a small step of "pretty sure" and not quite the Indiana Jones-esque leap of faith we were expecting, but definitely saw the humour in the cache name. Great views from various parts of this road too! TFTC!!! Big Grin

Found in the company of Cretti, funkymunkyzone and mike-miss on a crazy Wellington to Auckland road trip in the idiot box. We traveled via the Kiwi GeoTrail in Porirua, the Wairarapa including Cape Palliser, the Manawatu, and back to Auckland via the western side of the Central Plateau. Signed as Team CRT. Despite very little sleep the weekend was a blast!

A little bit disappointed by this one, a little more Indiana Jones was expected! Very Happy

Thanks!

Team CRT - traveling in The IdiotBox - For the first time, I have joined in with the mad crew of: FunkyMonkeyZone, Slieschke and Mike-Miss in a mad 40 hr caching drive from Wellington back to Auckland.

Find #732. Thanks for the cache. 30/08/2014 15:17

30-Aug-14
A plan was hatched for yet another extreme, fly down, drive back caching weekend from Wellington to Auckland. This time, Cretti and slieschke joined in on what turned out to be another epic road trip with myself and funkymunkyzone (our third trip this year).
We all met up at Wellington Saturday morning as i ended up being on an earlier flight to the rest of the crew. Jumped in our rental which happened to be a Ssangyong SUV this time round Big Grin and headed straight to Porirua Harbour to hit the Kiwi GeoTrail. From there on, we zig zagged our way through Wiararapa to Cape Palliser, back up through Martinborough, Masterton, Ekatahuna, Pahiatua, Palmerston North, Taihape, Te Awamutu and back home to Auckland in the early hours of Monday morning.

To save time and log space, we signed the logs as "Team CRT" travelling in the idiot box for the weekend. Lots of laughs were had over our 1500km+ / 41 hour road trip which consisted mainly of narrow gravel roads, some of which had spectacular scenery and views. Sorry for the copy/paste logs as its now all abit of a blur having only a few short naps in between. Many thanks to all the cache owners who have placed caches for us to find on another epic little adventure. TFTC! Big GrinBig Grin

GPS was telling me to leap somewhere I didn't really want to, but I worked out where I had to jump. TFTC

05-Jul-14
Had conjured up images of an Indiana Jones moment for the retrieval of this one. Upon arrival at GZ I returned the safety helmet and harness equipment to the trusty Toyota and easily retrieved the cache. TFTC

10-May-14
Made the leap no problems, gps was bouncing around and pointing to an unlikely spot. Look around and common sense will prevail. Tftc.

Found on a geocaching cycle from Melling to Moonshine Road / Bull Run Road and then SH58 to Judgeford and up Belmont Road and into the Regional Park before the final ride down Hill Road and back to Melling. A long day with a good quota of uphill, but also a success for caches along the way. TFTC

Cache #468 - Once I realised that the GPS was pointing in the wrong direction, I was very relieved to do the small leap to get to this one. Nice spot. TFTC!

08-Apr-12
The leap was less than expected, took a bit of hunting there are a few good places it could be.

12-Feb-12
Very thankful for the good parking! What an interesting road, we always wondered if it went right through, so took that way home. Great scenery, well worth the detour. TFTC

Third cache for the afternoon while out having abit of a drive around - amazing what places (and 'things'Wink) one can find!
A scan of the GZ, choosing a likely spot, made the leap and cache quickly to hand. Thankyou for the drive, it was a nice opportunity to further explore some new territory. TFTC

Visiting from South Australia, for rugby, caching, touring and visiting my family living in Upper Hutt. (I was raised in Nelson).
I've never been out this side of the river.
Wandered around a bit. (I'm blaming my GPS Wink )
I enjoyed the trip up the windy road - reminders of 'home'.

My second attempt at this one. This time I brought along a second pair of eyes and she found it without too much trouble. The GPSr was pointing us to the other side of the road, but I assumed that was wrong after taking a glance over there.

'Tis the season to be jolly, and 'tis the season to be caching.
Jolly good cache this one.
We made much harder work of this than was needed. Thrown somewhat by the GPSr pointing us to the wrong side of the road. Nonetheless we leapt about alot and made the faithful find in the end.
Cache in order and rehidden safely, as found.

#260 - Nice views slightly past GZ... it was all dry at GZ so no leap of faith required. Poked around for a minute or two before determining its most likely spot. Replaced the broken log bag with a new one. On to Riverstone! SL TFTC.

Drove past, but the IPhone didn't have signal so we didn't know where to stop Razz next time im (the girl) doing the navigation Smile

We took a leap of faith and both off us nearly fell backwards as what we were standing on disintegrated/crumbled. Just looking at the bank seemed to make rocks drop upon us.
We think the hint should be] behind roots.

Had a good look around for it today, and found a spot that looks like a cache may have occupied, but no one home today. Sad

Had to be in the obvious place, but after a good rumage nothing found! There was plenty of dedris on the ground so perhaps it's been muggled?

Couldn't quite figure the title but guess you need a rainy day to appreciate it? Took a lot of faith to negotiate the drive in to this one though.
Good hide and I appreciated the parking, TFTC
