Cache had slid down slope a wee bit, but log was dry. Saw pkeko and pheasants on the rainy wander, kept walking a bit past the council maintenance ends sign

02-Jan-24
Happy I had some kids to scramble up the bank. Cracker day for it

02-Jan-24
Little scramble up to the Manuka with my 11 year old daughter and 14 year old nephew. They are more mountain goat like than me!! Got there in the end

16-Jan-23
Glad to have the kids to do the work for this one. From geocache spot the kids tell me there is a big pine plantation to be seen. TFTC

05-Mar-22
As others have said a bit of a scramble but the bank, but hey that makes life interesting.

26-Feb-22
Thanks. Sunny skies today

06-Feb-22
Almost gave up searching in the wrong trees. Trust the GPS!

Saw a baby pukeko and it's family just around the corner ️

30-Jan-22
Not keen on scrambles up loose clay but it had to be done!.
All good here at end of road.
I always love to go to the end of roads too!
I really appreciate these caches you have put here!

30-Dec-21
Power Team does it again. Fantastically random spot. Barefooted with the kids to get up here. Classic summer holiday moment.

03-Jul-21
Well, that's one of the great things about Geocaching - it takes you to beautiful places that you may not have been before. Sad to say, I have lived in and around Whangarei for all of my 60+ years and I have never ventured along this road further than Whananaki North.

With such glorious mid winter weather though, today was the day, with 6 caches on offer before the end of the no exit road.

This was the last of them and I could certainly see how this would be a bit trickier in wet weather. No problems today, with glorious sunshine the order of the day. TFTC

06-Jun-21
Queen's birthday weekend in Northland.
Last two hides of the trip. Weather changed. It is time to go home.
Anyway.
Getting to GZ in wet condition is a challenge!
Done and dusted!
Last one for me. Happy birthday her Majesty ...--->>> Winter Wink
TFTC!

Headed along here as haven’t been this way for years.... brief stop and clamber for a find.
Thanks

22-Mar-21
Great bays on the way to the end of the road. Didn’t intend to look for caches but luckily there was a pencil with this one do I could log it. TFTC

07-Feb-21
Bank has slipped taking down bushes. Owner check needed.

04-Oct-20
This was a great find! We have a piece of land up here and this was right next to it! A bit close but nit trespassing so its really cool!

23-Feb-20
A good excuse to drive to the end of the road. Didn't spot any butterfies. TFTC

25-Jul-19
2 outa 3 ain't bad so the song goes. Thanks no fixed aboder. 1 year 3 days since it was found. Other than the fabulous scenery nothing observed worth noting. Terrain rating a little on lean side.

22-Jul-18
While staying at the local Holiday Park took time out to find a couple of caches many thanks

03-Apr-18
Found on the 1st but been camping at the Farm campground and had no reception. Again Master 9 set out on his lonesome and he found it again! Super proud! We found the people in the far distance, up a hill an interesting observation.

29-Jan-18
The most interesting thing we saw was a recycling truck and a monarch butterfly

04-Oct-17
Easy find loaded coordinates before getting here so was easy. Saw 4 quails & 1 kingfisher.
Tftc

16-Nov-16
Easy find, thanks.

08-Nov-16
The coords are probably ok, but the T-rating should really be upped to 2 Wink

Found at 11:17 - #6757

04-Oct-16
After an early kayak with the sunrise, a nana nap in the middle of the day, I needed exercise! So a brisk hour long walk from the DOC camp and voila ....the cache was in hand.

I saw so many driveways but few houses. A nice end to the series this side. Thank you.

18-Sep-16
Out exploring, and ran out of road. Great to find a cache here, made the drive worthwhile.
TNLNSL, thanks for the cahce No Fixed Aboder.

28-Dec-15
Decided I still had some energy to burn off after kayaking and diving already today so decided to throw in a few more caches to end the day nicely. Last cache for the day and I really struggled with this one, must be getting tired. Thought the terrain rating was a tad on the low side, as I stayed off the bank because of this. In the end I worked out where it must be and with a quick climb of the bank I spotted the hide.

27-Dec-15
I'm back in my home town of Whangarei for the holiday period and was out at Whananaki today to bring up a milestone cache find. After bringing up my milestone at "Island in the Sun" earlier, we drove out to the end of the road, where I scrambled up the bank and made a quick find of the cache here. Back in the 80's we were able to access the bays here - not anymore! Would have also liked to have done the caches at Manaiti and Moureeses, but both spots had too many muggles nearby to attempt searches for the caches there. TFTC!

22-May-15
I pedalled all the way to the end & beyond! and stopped here for one more rest. Found the original cache by memory & clue and the phone also pointed right at GZ, exactly where originally placed. Unfortunately, the logbook was completely sodden, so somehow moisture is getting in the container. I left a substitute log on top of the hint item as I didn't want to put it in the cache & have it go all manky Wink It is a small waterproof slip in a small mentos tin, in a ziplock On Top. The original cache is back where originally found, but could use a cleanout.

22-Mar-15
We scrambled up the bank, looking for a hide that was similar to the hint, even increased the search area, but could not find the cache. See previous log, probably cache creep, and in need of maintenance. Sad

22-Mar-15
No luck for me either, long grass on bank made it hard going. Did not like the tree with the spikes but it liked me.

16-Mar-15
Log book soaking wet and unusable - sorry - didn't have a replacement log with us.

15-Mar-15
Stayed a couple of nights at a holiday house at the end of Roimata Lane, and had a quick look for this one on the way out. Eventually found it, a bit further from the road than expected. Container full of water and log book is soaking wet and unusable.

We saw lots of quail during our visit.

Wildlife sanctuary over the road from location. Plenty of birdsong. Pipits and swallows seen today.

16-Feb-13
We like knowing whats at the end of the road too...and it was a bonus to have a cahce here. A most enjoyable drive around checking out the bays and the cute and grand baches. GZ was a wee challenge, I struck the bad luck of grabbing hold of one of the branches right on a thorn !!!! but was then rewarded with the cache. TFTC

16-Feb-13
Was nice to come to the end of the road and be rewarded with a cache. Getting to GZ was a bit tough...those trees have some nasty prickles!! We saw incredible views.

16-Feb-13
On our afternoon of caching we did indeed go to 'the end of the road' - will be interesting to see how the real estate development develops - gorgeous spot!! Bit of a tricky scramble up the hill for this old Nana - but as the 'tail-end-charlie' I did get the warning about the extremely dangerous thorns on the flame tree so was very careful crawling under it. TFTC NFA

13-Jan-12
A day release pass from family meant a caching trip could be done. Teamed up with good mate Butchie Bum in the Geonut to tackle the east coast caches! Travelled to this one before caching back along the coast. Had the joy of following the rubbish truck out before they did a detour. Got BB up on the bank searching before finding GZ and then the rubbish truck turns up again! Replaced log's plastic bag. We saw a beautiful blue sky TFTC

We drove a little two far and landed up getting covered in smelly mud (at least that's what we hope it was Smile ) before realising we'd gone just a little too far. but excellent hide and definately made me think to drive to the end of the road a little more often.

Cache was quickly in hand and yup, The Mermaid mark was in the book. oh well a good evenings caching with 3 finds. Decided to drop in to NFA's Tin Tent on the way back and what do you know, Caught the Mermaid Red Handed!
Always good to catch up again.

Last one and yes the mermaid has beaten us to all 3 FTF that day. Easy TFTC

09-Sep-09
Had to wait a very long while for the caretaker to unlock the gate, puttputt through on the archaic ride-on mower, relock gate, puttputt up to where I was pretending to be very interested in the posh property for sale, chat, and wait a very long time to puttputt very slowly on up the road out of site.... [|)]
I Nearly gave up waiting, thinking Maybe I should be kind & leave 1 FTF for the 3 amigos who must certainly be hot on my trail... but then thought Nah! Razz would they leave it?!
I too enjoy discovering where roads go & end. Discovered this one many years ago & ever since have dreamed of living at the end of this road. Thanks for bringing me back for another look & TF3FTFC's in 1 day! Big Grin
