I was up north for a week, visiting family with TheLandGirl and today we took a day trip out to Whananaki to do some exploring and some caching. Whananaki is an area I spent a bit of time as a child (particularly Otamure Bay), as dad would often come up here fishing and diving. Couldn't figure out the best access to this one, so scrambled up from the beach, quickly found the cache, then exited back up on to the road. Another lovely spot. TFTC!
Up north for a few days with Vistra. It was a beautiful day between the showers. The area was pretty quiet today with no muggles around to delay our caching efforts. A stunning gem of a beach. This cache had Vistra and I puzzled to begin with, and having read a few of the logs, it became clear that both routes to the cache had their challenges. Vistra took a gamble and scrambled up from the beach side. Once he'd navigated the flax he soon had the cache in hand. Giving this a FP for the amazing location.
Noice, wee slide down but worth it. Beautiful still evening with an empty beach! TFtC.
Scrambled up from beach, ducked under large fallen branch, found it, then took easier route up to road. Your choice. Lovely large reserve down the side road to watch the surfers from.
We were a little scared to dive through the bushes but found it in the end! Gotta get adventurous for this one
Came here for the day to meet daughter and family who are on holiday up this way .
Nice and easy find after a small scramble up from the beach....
Great to be somewhere new to me!

Nice fine winters day had the beach to myself . Have been here once before but it in the summer months and it was muggles galore.
Well, that's one of the great things about Geocaching - it takes you to beautiful places that you may not have been before. Sad to say, I have lived in and around Whangarei for all of my 60+ years and I have never ventured along this road further than Whananaki North.
With such glorious mid winter weather though, today was the day, with 6 caches on offer before the end of the no exit road.
Another great little beach here and some nice baches tucked away privately. I think I probably approached this one the harder way, as after finding the cache and signing the log, I spied an easier route out... TFTC

Queen's birthday weekend in Northland.
Last two hides of the trip. Weather changed. It is time to go home.
Anyway. Great spot. Reminds me wild Atlantic Ocean coast today
Windy , stormy and wet!
All good at GZ.

Located. Surprising how few times this has been found over the years. Good little scramble to grab the cache.
Sent mister e hand first over the flax. I think the terrain has hardened over the years. Strange glow tonight as a result of the Aussie bush fires
What a lovely Beach. Been to Otamure many times and never ventured further along this road. Aimed for all three out here but only got the 1st and last. Tftc
While staying at the local Holiday Park took time out to find a couple of caches many thank
Found it on the 1st but been camping at the Farm camp and didn’t have any reception. Awesome find by Master 9 who found it all by himself!
Beautiful views from the road as we headed down to this cache. We parked near the one way bridge and walked along the beach to this one. Decided to access the cache from above and found it easily. We then walked back along the road to the car. My friends still laughing at me walking along the road in bare feet like a typical kiwi. Another lovely place, TFTC
Having a great day out and about with our kids while they say to eat lunch we went for a short walk.

Was out this way hitting the waves today and needed a cache... still in place and was a little damp. But dried it out a bit. No worries with the log.
Nice view. A little tricky to get to the cache, but managed it in the end.

Staying over at Otamure Bay, so short drive over to this GC. Parked up on corner nearby and walked down.TFTC
Passed here earlier today and the place was pretty packed so didn't even bother have a look for it. This evening though the place was nearly desserted, so decided to pull over and have a look while I could. Probably got to GZ the hard way, and it was made harder still wearing Jandel's. No issues locating the cache was at GZ, thanks for the hide, and a brilliant spot too!
A few muffles hanging around, even on this blustery old day. Nice easy find but miss 4 has had enough, so further caches will have to wait for another day. TFTC
Yeah, after two DNF before this, was getting a little worried, but this one was spot on! Another walk along the beach, an explore of the rock pools, and a stunning location. Thanks for the cache and bringing us here.
Walked along the road from the DOC camp at Otamure Bay. Some great views on the way.
Taking a drive around the coast from the camp site to gather these few caches. Cache was an easy find, thanks. Dropped TB
Success! Dried all contents, was a bit of water in the bottom. Dried log book in hot fan in the car, replaced plastic bag. Swapped an item too. Awesome Bay, big waves. I may be back! Thanks.
What a lovely little bay, friends have a bach here and I cna see why they love being here....GZ was a wee challenge but forging a path through made find the find. Nicely hidden and a great spot for the cache. TFTC
Another stunning little bay. Tikitour, flowernz and I all took a different route and it was tikitour who eventually pulled out the cache.
Was the last cache of the day and I didn't want to leave.

What a delightful bay this is - and can imagine it gets quite busy over the holiday season but today it was just glorious - peaceful and quiet...Now what was the best way to approach GZ - top? bottom? side? why not try all 3 - ok we did - and eventually tikitour had it in her hands!!
Will have to come back with the camper van and see more of this great coast. Easy find
Found on our tour of Northland from Te Anau with The Italian Job from Auckland. TFTC
Nice secluded bays. Worth the visit. Found with 'Kev & Chris' from Te Anau. Te Italian Job was here....!
Out with Red6 in the Geonut caching. Had our lunch here and enjoyed the views. Looked a wee while as found this one around the side and not at the base. Replaced at base as hint says. TFTF
A day release pass from family meant a caching trip could be done. Teamed up with good mate Butchie Bum in the Geonut to tackle the east coast caches! A beautiful beach, full of muggles surfing and boogie boarding. Took us a while here before the keen eyes of BB found this around the side of the tree. Signed log and replaced at the base under leaf litter. Had lunch on the beach before travelling on. TFTC
Beautiful spot with gorgeous views across to the Poor Knights. Almost deserted beach which made looking a lot easier without Muggles around as it is normally busy.

Found with us all plus an extra O., a member of owaldock crew. Signed the log in the rain, following serious Whananaki flooding. TNLN I think. TFTC.
Found after a bit of searching.
A fantastic beach with great views.

A sneaky find with plenty of muggles on the beach. How inconspicuous can we be..... TNLN. Thanks for the cache
Love this beach every time we come! Nice drive over from our favourite and regular camping spot Motutara Farm.

A beautiful day with bad weather forecast so decided to make the most of it and set out on a cache-hunt, both old and new. Trailing 'the boys' and the mermaid and Barnacle by weeks, we enjoyed your new caches in this lovely area. Back in the 90's when we were looking for land we took a hard look at this beach. Not many problems with cache. Took out the Ocean Blue geocoin and put in alittle soap.
One of my favourite surf beaches, first surfed in 1968 I guess, this will give me an incentive to re-visit, nice place--Thanks. Glyn.
Got the new cache published email at 11:30pm Pooke and I looked at each other, Should we???? But what little bit of common sence (and the fact that it was an hours return trip + time to find all 3) we had left changed our minds so we didnt go then but made plans to leave immediatlly after work.
So we set off after work, Torches in hand. Park neat this cache and started to walk towards it. Uh-oh a fresh set of footprints and Paw Prints had us worried. Found the cache and yes there was the Mermaids mark. Bugger.

Three of us set out after work in the hope to get a joint FTF. On the way to GZ after parking miles away we saw foot print of human and dog in the sand heading in the general direction of GZ. Found the cache and our suspitions were confirmed. The mermaid has beaten us to the FTF witch ment there was no chance of getting the other FTF there were that day. TFTC and the adventure.
Only discovered these new cache listings around lunchtime...so did not get hopes up for a FTF, but still headed out quick as could be just in case and Woohoo!! There was still a small swell running AND the cache was untouched.

Off we set, planned attack, the three of us. In the car afterwork armed with torched for a attempt at a joint FTF. Parked ages away and walked then started the hunt. Ah ha and the moment of truth, nugger beaten by a mermaid.
