Sadly this one has disappeared and I have decided not to reppace. Lots of finds over the years from people passing. Cache on
These cache hides can take ages but I was in no rush despite mrs capperz texting to say she'd just seen me out Kumeu way, nah, not me though. Nice piece of history here.
Another day closer to Christmas, and mrs capperz was keen for a trip to the xmas market at Kumeu. I, however, was not quite as enthusiastic. Our daughter Liv was keen to go with Mum which opened up a morning of potential opportunity, which I was not adverse to taking advantage of. I was keen to get some of the treasure on offer out Helensville way and so made up a PQ and headed off about 0830. Some nice scenery seen and a few caches found, T F T C all CO s.

Spent a lovely sunny day out geocaching around here. Nice hide and easy to find with good hint. Interesting engine. Thanks budokan.
I was heading down from Paihia to Rotorua for the special event on Saturday. I was stopping overnight at my sons in Auckland so I decided to take the back route and grab some caches along the way.
It was a a bit of a wet day so I was glad of the shelter here. Neat to see this old engine and a fairly quick find, thanks

#1146. My Mum and I looked for this cache. We made it much harder than we should have and I even looked in the correct place a few times before realising that I didn't look hard enough. It's exactly where I expected it to be the first time!
Thank you very much for the cache!
Thank you very much for the cache!
We had a very nice holiday in New Zealand. Almost every day beautiful weather. We traveled with the camper home from the north to the south island. we have found a lot of very nice caches. Thanks for showing the nice places where we found the caches.

First cache of the year!
Strange how often caches turn up in the first place you look, even if you didn't find it the first time you looked!

I love these old relics and will always stop to check them out - cache or not. Glad to see a cache here that I could actually find....lots of hidey holes on these things! It is amazing that it survived two world wars and 120 years of time.....what a sweet engine! Thank you for bringing us here!
Looking for some quick finds after a ferry cruise in the area. It wasn't in the first few places we looked but didn't take too long to find. TFTC.
Seems like this might be a local drinking spot judging from the empty beer cans. Started on the wrong side but found soon after. Tftc
Out for some quick pick ups after a cruise tour of the Kaipara Harbour with Anastriel and Lycurgon, TFTC
Found this while my coworkers were having morning tea at the nearby cafe. Bungles and I had a good look. It was well hidden, but she managed to come up with the cache. Thanks!
Lots of possible places that this one could be hidden, but with the hint this was narrowed down. Didn't take long before we had this one in hand. We were the first to sign the new log. Thanks for replacing the cache. Now off to lunch at the nearby cafe.
Found yesterday by Mr 4 after lunch at the cafe and watching the freight train come through. TfTC
A few too many dnfs here recently. Will check and replace as necessary in a couple of weeks.
I looked in the two places that fit the hint. The hint was so specific, that I stopped there.
Found the cache inside of the box, first I thought it might outside from the locomotive part but I was wrong. Put a new replacement logbook. Thanks for the history & TFTC
Found it with GPS coordinates, quick find. Driving through on the way North. Thank you!
Very nicely done. I admit I did use the clue; I was just passing through and had limited time. The hint was helpful and I found it after a short search. You could have made it much more evil, thanks for not doing so! Thanks!
Came here after some caching around Kaukapakapa. I searched, and the cache was found in the 2nd place I looked in less than 10 mins, I was quite happy about that, since there is a cache down by Tauranga GC3EPZ8 that has a D5 rating, we as a group of 4 spent 45 mins searching (on the train) and never did find it. Wonderful looking train here though, I know it's old but it has done some work! I always thought the original train that first brought passengers to Hellensville from Auckland central would have been much bigger like the Ja1234 steam train or similar! But apparently not. I have a 1902 newspaper, very well preserved, that I found under some lino on a kitchen floor, in a house I was renovating in Parnell at the time. The time stated for travelling from Auckland to Hellensville was 3 hours flat! We have to remember, that trains were the main means of transport in 1880, they stopped at each and every station along the way, no cars as such back then, certainly no HW16 as we know it now. So I find this train quite fascinating myself. Maybe another cacher will share the same enthusiasm. Thanks Budokan for bringing me here, I do have a love for things historical, trains etc especially West Auckland where I live. A fav from me.
Went to replace the log as requested but couldnt locate the cache at all. Will replace next time I am passing.
Cache found open lying on the ground.
Signed a shop receipt that I had and put inside then fixed back close to where I picked it up.
Needs log pls

#62 This one was driving me crazy so I had a break and got on board to drive the crazy train. Hello, there it is! Brought a smile to my face, strangely satisfying finding it whilst not actively looking, credit to the hide. FP from me, TFTC!
Tucked nicely away out of direct sight. Should have found it more easily, had I been thinking. TFTC
My dad and I circled the train for a few times before we gave in and read the hint. Then it was a pretty quick find. A great place for a hide. The log is full and in pieces, but otherwise dry. TFTC.
No bonus points for us today, we used the hint and it was very helpful since otherwise we might still be out there hunting for the cache. As it was, with the hint it was in the second place I looked. Great idea to put a geocache here, I enjoyed having a look around GZ. Had to get a wriggle on though as we were on a mission to head to a park to do some geocaching. Thanks for the cache.
Out and about this afternoon for a spot of geocaching fun. Very pleasant winter day for it. This hide looked interesting so I determined to stop and have a look. Took advantage of the convenient parking and started the search. Did a couple of circuits to no avail. I became certain that it should be in a particular spot, but it just wasn't there. Eventually, spotted slightly adjacent to where I was looking. Nice to get there in the end. Cheers for the cache placement!
Great place for a cache. Pity Kiwiscot is not with us today. She would have enjoyed this but while the kids are at school the parents can play or in this case..... geocache. Thought we were going to struggle here. Lots of possibilities but found in the second place checked following the hint. TFTC
Mr Patoto had a reunion in Makarau so made a 3 day weekend of it. I had planned to find 19 geocaches. Some on the way up and and rest on way back. #13. Was easy to find the train. While Mr P drove the engine and occupied the attention of Mama and Baby muggles I found and signed the log. Muggles on one side me on the other.
13th find of the day after attending the Bayleys 80's Bash in Orewa last night. TFTC.
Kids love climbing over the old train here. Nice easy cache to find on the way home
This rail way station has special significance to me as my great gandfather was the first station master here! The station is looking fairly good and i sincerely hope that they trial a rail line to auckland for comuters again in near future as it is not going to be long before major dev. occur and helensville becomes an outer suburb of auckland. sorry it is such a late log.
The summer holiday this year was to visit the far North. We decided to take our time and travel with just short trips and stop over to visit friends/relatives rather than one big long drive through to Whangarei, so there was a little time allowed for geocaching, although this was fairly restricted. We planned a couple of longer stays at campsites where we used our tent and at other times we were at friends or cabins/motels. Some of the caches took us to a little out of the way places but these were really worthwhile, while others we discovered and visited and as luck would have it there was also a cache! The logging of these cache has had to wait until we got to relatives, on the whole.
This is a fairly generic log with additional notes about individual caches that had something extra that remained in my memory. I may have muddled some or even left some out but hopefully I have it right.

Caching with rebel98, I was still looking for the pen, when he calls out he has already found it. The log is full, so I have removed old logs and uploaded photo's of them to the cache page. We replaced log with a sheet of water proof paper.
Thanks for the hide, I remember coming here many years ago, don't think we were caching then, or maybe we have learnt a few skill since then

After a great wedding yesterday stayed overnight and before leaving town did a few caches TFTC
Wow love the old train! Thanks for taking us on a lovely walk today. We could not write our details in the log as it didn't have any remaining space.
Too many Muggles. Quick in and out. First time in Helensville. Like these old stations. But short for time, otherwise I'd take a look through railway museumTFTC
Nice quick find away from prying eyes.
No one around today being a public holiday.

#10809. As with the CO, we've had numerous DNFs of magnetic caches on large metal objects. Tankfully this one was a quick find. We considered continuing on to the town centre to look at coffee options there, but in the end we went to the station cafe for coffee, and didn't regret it. TFTC.
Today we are leaving Auckland after spending 3 weeks exploring and caching around the city and we are heading northwards, destination: Algies Bay.
Our first visit to Helensville and what a nice wee town it is. An interesting looking engine (Thomas the tank engine?) and we were pleased to see that the cache wasn't a nano and that there was a hint to its location. It didn't take StreetWalker long to track it down.
We then had an excellent coffee at the café in the nearby station. TFTC.

For a caching weekend away with the HKCB this was a late but welcome start in this great piece of countryside that I had never visited before.
So after having spent a caching trip where I slept in a bed rather than a car, and having had a shower (so this must be how normal cachers start their day when caching) while getting a tour of the Albertlanders History before heading south.
We collected this one following on from cretti's series of puzzle caches and heading south once again
Great spot for the cache and we were happy to have the place to ourselves.
thanks for brining me to this spot to enjoy the surrounds.

A little while ago an idea was thrown about to head north for a final caching roadtrip for the year. So along with C&D a rough plan was formed with a certain few caches, a confluence point visit, an event to attend, and the rest of the plan was to be made up as we went along. A later start this morning, but we'd achieved most of what we had wanted to do yesterday so a nice crusiey day today. Heading home the along way via Helensville to grab a few more caches.
What a neat old thing! Took a bit of hunting to locate this hide, and yes we used the clue. I actually had the right idea though before I had look at the clue as I was looking in the right place but just on the wrong side. Thanks for the placement.

Found it with bf weeks ago logged on his but not mine, no pen but we took a photo (Grom96) loved looking for this one. i sat in the train while brain storming and eating lollies, good hide had to do a double take
(1582) Had time to target some road side caches on my way home from the mountain bike park. TFTC
We wimped out and used the hint. Should have tried harder as it was then too easy. TFTC.
Thanks for the reminisce; as a kid, I always wanted to be a train driver. Nice quick find when I found the right "box". TFTC
