Found at 3:22 PM GAFF3 - however I didn't understand it and it wasn't any help to me, but I think I now get it after finding the cache Red Face.So another one of those do you go up or down. Went the easier way and looked at the obvious structure but nothing. Then when just doing a sweep of the area a slightly different arrangement was noticed and there it was - now that was a tricky spot! Thanks to The Emongs

#5913.
This was a fun cache to do. I took the longer, but easier option and parked almost under the bridge. A quick walk over to gz and the cache was easily spotted. I can hardly believe that there was that there was a railroad here once, considering how nature is taking over. TFTC!

#6020 14th for today

I was starting to get a bit stir crazy at home so I decided to head out and grab a few caches around the Adelong & Tumut area. It was a beautiful sunny day, not too hot and mostly muggle free, for obvious reasons. I was a bit late getting away due to ScoMo's broadcast this morning. But I still managed to make a good impact on the unfound caches in the region. I particularly enjoyed the wander around the old gold-mining works around Adelong. A bit of water flowing through here today and with the green, it was good to see. Also enjoyed the walk around the wetlands in Tumut. Some lovely views along the Tumut Plains road later in the day too.

Apologies for the smell of hand sanitizer on the log. I went through a lot today.

Thanks The Emongs

There was a small group of "us" heading off to meet more of "us" in Tumut for the weekend. Our merry band of misfits was made up of MTrax, Tankengine, Joolay, Aquilus1 and myself. In the car we all thought of a name that we could call our gang, but in the end we decided it was a Canberra Invasion Trip that we were on so just went with CBR5. We signed logs either indiviually or with the group name.

It was an awesome weekend all up, with lots of fun with friends. We cached all day then met up with the rest of the Invasion Team for dinner Saturday night, then cached some more on Sunday until it was time to head home.

**The Cache** We parked in the large space up off the other road then walked down to the cache. Pretty nice looking spot really. Saw two TBs in the cache, but left there for someone else. Tftc The Emongs!!!

Day 2 of our invasion of Tumut saw us packing up camp before heading out for a full day of caching.

Teamed up with Albida33 for the most part of the day before we headed home.

Quick find here today

Found with dty73, Aquilus1, Joolay and Mtrax on our Canberra invasion of Tumut and surrounds! (Log signed as CBR5). Of course, we also had a lot of other Canberra cachers in town this weekend, and we all had a dinner on Saturday night at the pub! It was a great weekend, and I think a lot of us "cleaned out Tumut" Smile Thanks for the cache TE.

Pa and I are down here early for Canberra's Invasion of Tumut this coming weekend. We took advantage of being old and grey, ok I'm being ageist, to explore the area.
Pa was really clever and pulled up beside the cache so it was found easily enough and I left a couple of Tbs.
All caches have been signed some as SG which is what I do to save space in small logs. TFTC

04-Feb-18
It was an early start to the day when I set out with Aquilus1 at 0600 on Sunday morning (04/01/2018) to cache Tumut with a side trip to Gundagai. In all we travelled 520kms and it took almost 16 hours to visit 70 plus caches with 65 finds. A long but very enjoyable day. Some of the highlights of the day included visiting Junction Bridge (a Truss Bridge built in the 1800s), Googarragandra River Suspension Bridge (Built in 2006 and Spanning 51..8 meters), Tumut River Grey-headed Flying Fox Colony, Tumut Rail Station and the Tumut River. We had a little time to also visit the Old Gundagai Jail built in 1859 and the Old Flower Mill built in the 1848. Aquilus1 took a photo of me at the Brungle Centenary Park using my poker to poke the cache out of its hiding spot. We had lunch at Gundagai McDonalds and snacks at Subway. This is a generic log due to the volume of all the caches that we found on the day. Thanks to Aquilus1 for a fantastic day of caching and thanks to all the cache owners for placing the caches.

I am currently writing detailed logs because of a challenge provided by Project-GC. "The Author" Badge challenges geocachers to average one hundred words or more in each log. As of 31st January 2018 my average was only 20 words per log, which seems close to the 100 target. However given that I have found so many GC caches, I have to write many logs with well over 100 words for a long period of time to get my average to the target. Apologies to anyone who finds the logs tedious but it is the only way that I can strive to attain this challenge. After 2350 plus caches (which includes all cache finds up and including today), the average log length is just over 50. I am now entertaining the possibility that I might be able to achieve my gaol before this year ends. Progress has been better than anticipated.

It was an early start to the day that saw Darksidedan and myself heading to Tumut for the day with a side trip of some Gundagai caches as well as we travelled through. I had been keen to head off for a caching trip and Tumut looked ideal and definitely didn't disappoint. The scenery as we traveled through the area was everything I had hoped it would be and the clear fast flowing rivers beautiful as they flowed through the middle of it all.

A long but very enjoyable day, so many highlights and although we covered a large area and many caches I'm pleased to know there are many more so a return trip sometime is definitely going to happen.

Great shady spot here with the old train track running through. Very over grown but can just see the old tracks still - guess that's the thing when these are no longer in use. Thanks for the cache the emongs.

13-Jan-17
Read the description prior to leaving the cache at the sawmill, which was very helpful as we were about to pull back on the highway! But instead we read there was an easier entrance from the road we were already on, perfect

Very glad we approached from below. There was lots of long grass, and trying to navigate down that steep rocky/grassy hill would of been a pain.

Instead I took a semi-leisurely stroll to the cache, being weary of going through the grass.

Thanks, a really good spot for a cache!

A scramble down so be careful

On a two day caching trip with Ryan Girls and muggle starlight. We took the highway instead of the recommended road, which resulted in a steep scramble down the rocks to GZ for some whilst the others looked on from above!

Today was the first full day of our caching adventure with Rapidlywild in Tumut. I have never really been to Tumut before and was quite surprised by the size and the beauty of the place. Lovely water ways that were crystal clear. Just a lovely place to drive around and explore.

This one took us a little bit of time but eventually located its hiding place. Signed and back on our way.

Day eight of our High Country holiday. Another sunny day at Tumut with Bettyboo3747
Got out the deadly treadlies for a relative early morning ride along the river and wetlands.
We then travelled to Adelong for some caches and a walk around the mining area.

We were fortunately on the lower road already. Interesting to see that most of the tracks are still in place. It would make a great Rail Trail with little work.
Spotted the good sized cache quickly and left our marks.
Thanks, Robmc.

# 9967. I got up early today and headed out on the bike to the river path and then into the wetlands. What a great start to the day. Then we got ready and drove to Adelong, collecting a few caches on the way before visiting the old Gold Mining area.

As we are bike riders and enjoy riding renovated trails we would love that to happen here. What a scenic ride it would be through the old cuttings and lovely countryside. Anyhow it ain't and we can't so we will have to enjoy finding a cache instead. Found it easily although my GPS said it wanted to go 10 metres further down the line. I left one of my black mask pathtags here today.

Thanks The Emongs

Found by Mary & David at 1145. Batlow means apples to us. Some rails are still there, but who would have imagined that form of transport around here would have had such a relatively short life. An interesting cutting through the rocks, too. A nice easy find. Our thanks to The Emongs.

Pulled up at the turnoff to Tumbarumba as as I like old railways stopped here for a search. Made our way down from above and once at the bottom the spot was quickly found. A nice spot for a cache though the log trucks above make a bit of noise. Nice view up the old cutting as well (Photo included). Thanks The Emongs.

Found on our Tumut trip. After some confusion on where to park, we managed to find a spot on the patch of tar. Then, the difficult scramble down to the cache started. Once down there, it was in the shade, meaning that we were cooled down, allowing for a quick find. A nice little spot that is not usually seen by people driving by. After climbing back up to the top, we were buggered - a steep walk on a hot day is not a good idea. TNLNSL. TFTC The Emongs!

Found this one during our month long tour of SE Australia. It is our intention to find as many caches as possible during our stay and as a result logistics dictate that this generic log will have to suffice .Hope the cache owners, to whom we extend our gratitude for their efforts, will all understand the reasons for this. All good wishes from us both.

The approach that I used this morning to find this cache was along the old highway, you mean that narrow piece of bitumen used to be the highway??? The train tracks have long been abandoned and I remember catching the second last passenger train/tram to Tumut for holidays from uni in Sydney, many many years ago. The train to Batlow used to run through my parents farm and they like many landowners were happy to see the service cease. There were talks of converting the trainline into a bike track but this obviously hasn't happened yet. A nice explore so thanks Emongs for the cache.
