*Another big geocaching trip to Australia with woolwood9.*
Our main focus was on the "On Your Bike" Wherigo series, which we really enjoyed.
Biggest disappointment was solving all the Paddle Steamer puzzles, then driving within 4km of them before finding the roads all completely turned to sticky slush and unusable!

*We visited many other good caches and other trails on our trip and had a lot of fun!*
**Really appreciate the effort put into this cache.**

Another cache find on our 2022 South Australian Adventure. It is a wonderful day (albeit cold, windy and rainy) just perfect for geocaching.

We are enjoying our time travelling SA. Fantastic towns, ruins, beaches and cliffs & wine. Thanks to all the COs for taking us on this geo-guided tour.

The forecast temperature today was listed as reaching 39 degrees so we planned our cacheing day around spending maxium time in the A/C in the car and minium time out walking trails. Today it was fantastic that we did not find that we needed to renew any cache containers or log books/sheets. Well done everyone. All the caches we targeted today were found to be in good order.
There was, of course, the mandatory flies and dust and more dust and more flies, we can live with this as we have the technology to deal with the flies and dust.
We did encounter roads that we have never travelled on before and were very surprised when we came across a water way at Bugle Hut that had at least 300 swans on it. We traveled down a road that had the strangest collection of items attached to the trees, there was fans, lamps, boom box, frypan, stuffed toys, CD's with red reflectors, asstd computers bits - monitor keyboard etc. It felt like every road had an old house on it. We saw house's where the lawns were so green while all the land around them were as brown as can be.

Out with Mattycat for a caching trip to the riverland for the day, with temperatures 40 C we decided to pick some easier caches that didnt involve walking to far and keeping cool in the geomobile. With Loxton our starting point we head east to the Border even crossed the border for a few in the park before thunderstorms ended the day. With darkening skies we found this one in good condition listening to the odd thunder in the distance

quick find. the paint is starting to peel off the cache.
Out with the Mogni for a short trip out to the riverland, only 3 days. It was hot first 2 days where 40 degrees and the last day was 33 degrees. Since the rules just changed about covid 19 testing before and after entering vic to no testing, we changed our plans on the way up and decided to go via Murray Sunset National Park. The idea was to find as many caches as we could that haven't been found recently most hadn't been found in 3 months. On day 1 we replaced 10 out of the first 12 caches, all broken container and 1 log book replaced, and by the end of the day had a heaped medium bin liner bag full of broken containers, the hot mallee sun doesn't do the plastic containers any good. Day 2 saw us caching around Loch Luna and lake Bonney which is way easier driving around here in the dry then in the rain like my last visit here. Onlt 1/2 a medium bin liners back of replaced containers today, people must fix the closer to the highway caches more often. On day 3 it was back in to the mallee country and home via Pinnaroo. Getting those " out of the way caches ". Plenty of dirt roads where driven down and many, many back sandy tracks taken. It was good to explore all the country areas and stay off the highway.

Sir_spectre and I had a quick getaway to the Riverland. We were targetting the less found caches. We found an assortment of caches, and as regular for us manged to replace containers for several and put some fresh logbooks in others. It was a rather hot weather for a weekend of caching but the air conditioned car gave us some relief.

Nothing like a rusty ride home. I'd say cars on Mars (yes, there will be a helicopter there soon too) will look like this just from the dust coating after a few days. However I'd rather take this ride home.

Heading to the Riverland for a couple of days, on a caching trip, with clare007...
It was a lovely day for it...
We took our time walking around the area...taking a closer look at the old cars...it is kind of sad that these historic vehicles have been left in such a state of disrepair...my brothers had one of those old cars and I have great memories driving around in them...
The old ruins...oh the stories they could tell...
Thanks for placing the cache here for our enjoyment, crane2 Smile

As I am getting older and running out of time, I have decided I will take off on my own to cache in different areas of our vast country as my NGW (Non Geocaching Wife) has no interest in caching.
I have been up to Loxton for five days of full on caching with suscoe, au.fait and Phetlern and still have so many caches to log.
Heading east of Loxton with the crew we found this guy. Ross tells me that we travelled at least 250 km today.
I am afraid that for the next few days my logs are going to be a lot of cutting and pasting but that does not take away the effort that the owners have put in to provide these caches for us to find so please accept my thanks. With close to 200 caches placed I know how much work is involved with not only placing them but the ongoing maintenance.

This is the beauty of being a cacher as you are shown these locations that the locals know about but others would never get to see. A F.P. from the ageing Bushfire.

Thanks, crane2 for placing this cache.

Another great day of caching, with Bushfire, au.fait & Suscoe, in the Riverland - between Loxton and that infamous border! The expanse of the farmland is amazing the ruins dotted along the roadsides adding interesting snap shots of local history. Love the idea of this burger!

Our thanks to 'crane2' for placing this cache for our enjoyment.

Suscoe headed out this morning in the terrific company of au.fait, Phetlern and Bushfire for a caching adventure to the east of Loxton.
It was a warm morning which turned into a farily hot afternoon.
We travelled around 250 kms and found a lovely range of caches in some interesting locations.
The roads were fairly quiet but we did pass quite a few shingle back lizards, who were making their way across the roads that we travelled along.

Thanks tocrane2 for showing us this spot, it was hard to imagine the noise that would have been heard here, all those days ago, with all of these old buildings and vehicles.

A favourite from us and we certainly appreciated the opportunity to visit here.

12-Mar-20
A fairly warm to hot day with much driving in the area to the East of Loxton. The caches were fairly widely spaced but the excellent company of Phetlern, suscoe and Bushfire made for a very enjoyable day. What an interesting but forlorn place that had so much in that community but now only rusty and decrepit things. TFTC crane2

Wow! What an interesting area! Mrs 4Moule was a bit cautious of snakes with the weather warming up but after a bit of a search the cache was located! The buildings around here are just amazing! The store on the corner looks like it still has good bones, just the add ons going to wreck and ruin. Thanks for bringing us here

Today it was a matter of selecting fewer caches for the list, but going mainly for interest. With ilook4geo we travelled past vineyards, mallee, drove dirt roads and tracks, enjoying it all.
We made a successful find here, quickly and easily, as the container was more visible than not. Both names were noted on the log, all was put back, but made a little less obvious and we were off again to look for other interesting caches as well. Thank you, crane2, for placing this cache.

We decided to head out for an afternoon of caching with Larry Lambert. With the rain over the previous 24 hours, we decided to hit some dirt roads to get the 4WD's dirty! We headed towards Taldra and continued to Bugle Hut, Taplan, Woodleigh, Loxton and then back home to Renmark. After living in the Riverland my whole life, this was the first time I'd been out this way!
Without even looking at who owned this cache I knew it would be crane2! Another interesting little spot - Larry Lambert and Mr Greeno loved looking through the old relics around the place. Awesome little hide too! FP for this cache!
I haven't heard of the Nangari burger but it sounds interesting and I think I need the recipe crane2!

My biggest caching day (plus half an hour into the next day on my way home), finds wise, for a long time. 67 Smile caches actually found and 1 beta testing smiley too. Cool
CPwanderer, Clare007, Gizmo's Gang and I headed for Loxton and the new Wandering Heroes - Fishy Tales series and we had a ball Big Grin

We stealthily made the find as a group of nice men walked through the area. They asked if we were from here and I said no, just enjoying the sights.
Then I told them they weren't allowed to take the cars and repair them and they promised they wouldn't. Cool
Pretty sure they don't know about geocaching Wink

Another historical spot on our tour around the local area.
Took us a few minutes to locate the clever hiding spot.
Some muggles checking out the old cars came along just as locus had replaced the cache.
Hopefully they were none the wiser as to what we were doing.
Thanks for bringing us here crane2

Certainly a sad looking settlement today!! Thanks crane2 for the hide!!

Continued our tour of some bygone settlements.
We saw some muggles out the back and realised they were coming in closer.
Locus cache managed to pop back the cache and a quick chat and they were none the wiser.
I think they were more interested in the vintage cars.
Interesting spot, thanks for bringing us here crane2

Great day out

We found this one easily and enjoyed looking at the school and the rusting machinery.
GeoMum used to travel past this settlement daily as a child on the school bus to Loxton.
For information, this school closed in 1967, around the same time as the Taplan school and, I'm guessing, other small mallee schools. Kids from this area would have then caught a bus to Loxton, but those from Taplan and south, caught buses to the newly opened Browns Well Area School at Paruna (the "super-school" of the time!). It seems like 1967 saw a revolution in education here!

For those interested in those burgers, the recipe supposedly originates with the Nangari Tennis Club (the tennis courts can be seen just west of GZ) which I think was still operational at least into the 1980's (probably the last Nangari "icon" to go).

Quick Hamburgers for the BBQ

500g mince
1 cup milk
1 pkt chicken noodle soup
2 eggs
1 onion, chopped fine
1 grated carrot
1 cup SR flour
1 cup water
salt & pepper

Mix all ingredients and let stand for a while. Just spoon onto BBQ and spread out to size and thickness required. BBQ to desired appeal.
Enjoy! TFTC crane2 and the memories evoked!
Took a bouncy ball, left a coin purse.

ROCKY GLEN GROMMETS LOVE this type of location - country relics have always held a certain fascination for Mum Grom - she could hear the kids from the church down the road yelling (very loudly) so she made it a quick find and didn't spend too long looking around (but would have loved to!)

Out today for a drive with the grandparents; Grandpa was trying out his new GPSr and cache finding skills. SNP got to it first, though. The hands were working overtime trying to keep the flies at bay. We were bronze finders; silver appears to have been taken from some muggles from Renmark who wrote their email address in the logbook. (I didn't write it down --- I was trying to get back in the car as quickly as possible!).

3rd of 3 ftf caches for the evening... last time I was on this road it'd been raining.... puddles everywhere, oooo the fun!!
found the local easy enough though it seemed strangely spooky in very low light..... seen a car bonnet lying on the ground close to GZ and given my run with wildlife tonight wasn't going to be tempted to lift that up!!!! had a poke about and found the treasure in a very cool hidey spot that could well have been custom made for the cache container (but it wasn't)..... an enjoyable hour or so chasing these three caches, all good sized too..... thanks for the fun crane2!
