Travelling the desert region with the Subaru 4WD Club of Vic.My first proper trip travelling in sand, having a blast.Quick stop to view "the rock" the non our way again.
A rock. It even has a visitors book. Well I’ll be. The Oo-la-roo of the south.
Found out and about during a quick trip to the southern deserts where the stars shine so bright!
Thanks tackle_head and clear skies from TeamAstro. ️ Cache the planet!

Second trip on this track Easter 2022 we were way too late in the day to stop but this year we’re able to stop and check out the rock. Well worth the journey out there. Was able to give my eldest a steer for the first time on our way which made it even better. TFTC.
Due to unforeseen circumstances Mr Smokey Bear will no longer be a part of Team Smokey Bear and will continue his adventures as "SmokeyBearOG".
So I'm relogging all previous finds under my new account.
Unfortunately this log will not show the original logging date.
**Thanks to tackle_head for this adventure, looking forward to many more.**

Another great location for a cache. Very pleased to have travelled out here with this motley crew and found it. After many photos were taken, we were on our way again. Thanks for the cache and bringing us out here.
What another awesome place for a cache. I am really grateful to those that have placed caches out here, encouraging us to explore our own backyard. Thanks for placing this and bringing us here.
Day #9 of the Birthday Bush Bonanza. After a night of camping at Western Beach, the rain has cleared and it’s time for some sand dune driving through Wyperfeld National Park. My first 4WD trip with The Tritonz group
A great trek out to this spot, and an unusual find in amongst the desert. I was especially grateful for this cache as it ticks another of my UBD maps off the list! Pretty much only far Eastern Victoria will be left when this trip is complete. After signing the log, a vanilla slice treat await order from my stop off in Hopetoun yesterday. A mess was made of it as we continued on the return journey to camp.
The cache has been signed as “4WD group” for lack of something more creative and to save log space. The group included Bucketeer, Chooknchunk, Gemma & Luke Sistema, Geoturtle37, OzHockeyChick, Papi4506, Phetlern, Posums, Micaparamedic, RoamingHowie, & last but definitely not least TheTritonz.
Thanks tackle_head for the cache and for contributing to the game.

Finally off on my 4 day weekend away to catch up with some fellow cachers and good friends around Wyperfeld National Park.
I headed up the Calder, turned west at Charlton and meandered around the back roads around a lake or two through a couple of country towns to get to my destination for the night which is Lake Albacutya and to met up with the rest of the crazy gang to spend the weekend up around here.
The weather is not the best up this way but we can only hope the tracks will be fine to drive on.
After a great night around the camp fire with a couple of drinks and plenty of laughs we put up the sand flags formed the convoy and headed off for a great day organised by the great Tritonz who do a great job in organising these fantastic weekends away.
I was joined by a couple of trusty co pilots for the day which were Gemma and Luke which saved me from having to grab the mic every so often.
Plenty of laughs in the Geocruiser and over the airwaves as we made our way along the tracks.
We finally bounced our way along the tracks to eventually make it out to the rock.
It was a bit bigger rock then what I expected for out here and an unusual formation in the middle of the desert.
After locating the cache and signing the log 4WD Group we took the obligatory pic on top of th rock and now to make our back out.
Thanks tackle_head TFTC.

Day 3 of our five-day escape to Wyperfeld NP for some caching and 4WDing fun with our geo-friends.
This was the fifth cache of the day, having left Western Beach, and travelling to Chinamans Well via Pella Track, then up Milmed Track to this rock, stopping for lunch at Round Swamp on the way.
Last night's rain may have made the sand slightly easier to drive, but it was still very soft and bouncy. Very surprised to find such a lump of rock out here in the middle of all this sand. Cache was located, photos taken, then it was a U-turn back the way we came, back to Western Beach to camp for the night. We signed the log as 4WD GROUP to save space. TFTC tackle_head.

A day in the sand pit!!
For economy of log space we signed in as "4WD Group", Bucketeer, Chooknchunk, Gemma & Luke Sistema, Geoturtle37, OzHockeyChick, Papi4506, Phetlern, Posums, RoamingHowie and the flag bearers Micaparamedic & The_Tritonz.
Arrived here in one piece, but the way in was like a rolling ocean. Now to get out again!
Thanks tackle_head for placing caches for everyone's enjoyment.

Day 1 of the 4WDing fun with a group a crazy geocachers! My littlest geokid (LukeSistema) was along for the ride. Today we jumped in with Posums as I wasn't confident driving some of these tracks. In hindsight I probably could have but I had an awesome day regardless! I was pleased to see a biggish rock. I wasn't sure what to expect! Time to head back now! Thanks for the cache.
We signed the log as 4WD Group to save room and not have to write a dozen names. The group consisted of:
GemmaSistema & LukeSistema
Posums
Chooknchunk
RoamingHowie
OzHockeyChick
Phetlern/Bunjil
Papi4506
Geoturtle37
Buckateer (who has found some of these caches already)
Micaparamedic & The_Tritonz (who have found all these caches already/or placed them)!

My first 4x4 camping trip with this group, exploring all over Big Desert. Sebastian is not quite equipped for deep soft sand, so I hitched a ride in RoamingHowie’s GeoRanger.
Day 1: After camping last night at Western Beach, Lake Albacutya, today’s plan was to do the Milmed Track & Pella Track.
The last of today’s caches along this section. Took the obligatory pic just as the skies began to open. Should make for an even slipperier trip back. Oh and a yummy vanilla slice for the journey.
Thanks for bringing us here today by placing this cache, tackle_head

6 July 2021 12:53 pm Found with the Hardacres on our School holidays trip staying in our own state thanks to covid 19. Thanks tackle_head for the cache. What an amazing rock. GPS was all over the place but we got there in the end.
I too got to climb the rock! Actually I drove straight past it and had to turn around and come back to it. I don't know how I could of missed it, maybe I was concentrating on the track, which in my opinion was awful, not difficult but just painful because of the continuous undulations. I though the Milmed Swamp area was really nice, with the terrain quite different than the surrounding area. An oasis in the middle of a desert. Thanks Tackle Head for placing this cache.
Lucky we got to climb the rock before they closed it! Someone had left their thongs on top - we were hoping they hadn’t fallen off as the climbing chains were nowhere to be seen. Lots of comments in logbook about how cold the nights are - being from Tassie were not finding it too bad. Having done a couple of tackle_heads caches at Lake Albacutya we looked under the rock first but no luck. Finally had it in hand. TFTC!
Got to climb the rock before they closed it! Lots of comments in the log book about how cold the nights are ... just like Uluru! Someone left their thongs on top of the rock - hope it wasn’t a fatality, as there were no safety chains in place. After tackle_heads last 2 caches around Lake Albucutya we looked under the rock first but no luck. TFTC
Wow, what a stunning monolith, totally worth the hours of driving to get there, one of the true wonders of the world . At least the track is good fun to drive, and it is a pretty spot. TFTC

I spent last night at Broken Bucket and after visiting the Penguin I unloaded the [One Wheel Drive](https://coord.info/TB89TNR) and headed towards Milmed Rock, where it took me a little while to locate the cache due to some nasty little burrowing critter covering the cache with dirt. The visitor's log was interesting and I signed it as well as the log sheet before heading off to 'Pirate's Treasure' and then stopping by to take a break in the limited shade on the return trip where the dash thermometer was showing 39°C.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache

Found with FeatherWaite on an extended 4-day weekend trip that saw us visit the Riverland, Big Desert and Ngarkat CP areas.
We drove in to this one and back out along the sandy track from the Nhill-Murrayville Road, which was mostly easy going. It was a surprise to find this seemingly out of place rock here amongst the sand dunes. Cache was quickly found and is in good condition.
Thanks tackle_head for the cache.

Found with e.gregory1 during a caching trip to the Riverland, on to the Border Track, and into Ngarkat Conservation Park and Big Desert. It was an impromptu decision to head east of the Murrayville-Nhill Road to search for this cache but well worth the adventure. Thanks for the cache tackle_head!
Found on entering the desert while driving the tracks.

Our initial intention was to drive along the Milmed Rock Track as far as the FTF cache not so far in. That changed though as we enjoyed the journey through the desert and wanted to see more. Why not head for this one as well seeing we were so close. So we did , negotiating the bumps and avoiding some dried mud ruts we took a further 50 minutes to arrive at Milmed Rock with only a couple of stops to take photos of the beautiful native flowers in bloom. The visitors book is very full which says to us this is a very popular place to visit but we managed to add our names and even our team stamp on a small bare patch. The cache was found by MrT in good condition as once again I was too busy taking photos and admiring the "Rock". **Thanks tackle_head for placing tupperware in another great desert location.**
The Mallee.
The name holds a significance for me, as my Mum used to go horseriding for a week every year through the Murrayville National Park. Her favorite spot to go riding, starting from Hattah and finishing in Underbool. I don't know if she ever visited Big Desert.
After doing the long haul to Desert Penguin, it was to this cache next. What a drive. You want to carry recovery gear out here. A long long long sandy drive, and thats just to the cache!
What a awesome experience to drive through the Mallee track.
A huge fave from me.
Cheers

This weekend had been earmarked for some adventurous exploits in the Big Desert National Park with Jacko83, aiming to find a few relatively remote caches. Along the way we explored some of the smaller country towns, discovered interesting locations... and found a few caches !
After tackling the Wilderness Area on Saturday morning we made our way around some other parts of the Big Desert in the afternoon. It took us quite a while to get to Milmed Rock, but we were in no hurry. Greeted the gnome, signed the visitor's register, signed the caching logbook.
Thanks for placing this cache in such a unique place, Tackle Head - it's certainly no normal drive-by !

Found on our 4x4 trip from Tassie with a great bunch of old friends and some wonderful new ones.
The trip was full of laughs, hilarious radio banter, laughs, great night time camps sites, laughs, amazing sites, laughs, recoveries, laughs, 4x4 challenges, laughs, wildlife, laughs etc etc AND Milmed Rock!.... many years ago the saying came up 'Doing a Swampy' which meant a few things but one was finding a cache without a GPS... we found this cache doing a Swampy. Great place for a cache and after we signed the log we continued on our adventure.
Thanks for the cache tackle_head

Found in the company of:
red tag, vk7hch, Brian, Chris Mc and Robbie.
Found by red tag doing a Swampy (without GPSr) because I didn't get it when I was here in November (because we had already left).
Today I made amends by telling everyone that there was a cache here.

We are always up for a challenging cache, sadly for this cache we lacked the necessary equipment (4x4).
We were invited to go camping with V's brothers and their families, both of whom own 4x4. We camped at Big Billy's bore hole.
Midmorning we headed out for some 4x4 fun, even though V's brothers are both muggles, they were quite happy to stop off and let us find this cache. Arriving at GZ cache was quickly found, log signed, we also signed the other more obvious logbook (visitors book)
Hard to believe we are the first ones to find this cache in just over a year.
Kids all had fun climbing all over the rock.
This was one of only two finds for the day, the day finished up with a relaxing evening and delicious meal at the Hopetoun pub.
We got back to the campsite about 11pm right in the middle of a massive storm, so spent the next hour battening down the hatches and digging trenches for the water to run away from our tents.
Many thanks tackle head for hiding this cache a favourite point coming your way.

On a week long 4wd and camping adventure through the Murray-Sunset, Border Track and Wyperfeld with a bunch of friends. Milmed Rock is certainly an interesting feature in this landscape. TFTC
Well, getting here was a sliding, bumping, grinding drive and I was only a passenger!
My initial reaction was along the lines of, what a strange place, after finding the cache in the company of Dylan 7a. I'd never imagined country like that which surrounded this place existed in Victoria, so it was an educational experience getting here as we loosely followed the 'Mallee Drive'. Well in this case two ways in and two ways out depending on direction.
Thought the nearby Milmed Swamp would make for an ideal camping location, a pleasant surprise not shown on the maps we carried (not a designated camping location) - could not imagine too many vehicles passing!
However, there is a beauty in this location and the landscape around and that a cache is here makes the journey worthwhile. Terrific to nab a 'tackle head' cache again - it's a long way from his ones down Altona/Williamstown way, that's for sure.
Once at GZ found the cache quickly in no small part to the clue and the reading of a compass. cache is good condition. TNLN.
Thank you to 'tackle head' for the cache and its placement.

Found while on a 4WDriving trip with a big bunch of Muggles.. I would have shared the joy of finding the cache with them.. but when I was sitting around the campfire the previous evening telling them about caching they didnt seem that interested.. So at the last mud crossing before the rock, we raced off in front of everyone else... found the cache and signed the log just as they were all pulling up getting out of their cars so I had it back in place before they saw anything. It is a lovely spot to be marked by a cache. Thanks.
After starting out in the morning ready to tackle this track but finding out that we had car trouble, we thought we might not get there. However a quick call to the RACV and car was fixed and we were given the ok to continue out to the tracks. Travelled up Chinamans and then back down Milmed. A good days driving and a nice little break at 'the rock' to find the cache.
We found this on our short trip from Horsham to Murrayville via the Milmed rock track. Being a long weekend the track was very busy. Due to the lack of early winter rain in the area the clay sections were quite solid and the sand was quite easy due to previous traffic forming some firm ruts.
We arrived at the enormous rock at lunchtime and the area was crowded with muggles. The climb to the top was met with giggles by the Geokids and the Geoteen commented "is this it!"[xx(]
The visitor book was signed, cache found and signed then returned once the crowds had dispersed and we continued our journey to Murrayville.
I have flagged this as a fave. GREAT location and GREAT drive to get here!
Thanks for the cache Tackle_Head

Found while out 4wd'ing with the Vic Scout 4x4 Service Unit. We are on a trip to test our gear and our fuel economy. When looking at caches in the are i was hoping a few more of these would count towards the Unloved challenge. But no luck. Found only a few days before i arrived.
Enjoyed the challenge of the sand dunes on the drive there from Round Swamp camp ground. Took a bit of finding, but the little tackers were at a good height to spot it. TFTC
Found by our youngest with Slinke and Stackers on our trip through the sand. A good stop for lunch with the kids.
Enjoyed the drive to the cache. Passed five bikes and 3 cars on the track. Thx tackle_head for the cache.
I snuck off from assisting fuel drops for a motor bike club run through the desert to find this cache. I have been past the rock a few times prier to geocaching with my local 4x4 club. I only picked up two caches for the weekend due to the crowed , I think it makes it more fun. Great place for a cache. On the day the sun was out no wind, perfect day. Thanks for the cache in a peace of country I hold dear.
On a 4wd trip in the area and a quick check to ensure caches health and is " all systems go " !!!
A bumpy drive along Milmed Rock Track, but worth it in the end. An interesting structure in the area with the bonus of a cache to find. Thanks tackle_head for the cache.
Found it at 1:40pm... man what a drive! We bumped and wallowed our way up lucky we did our apprenticeship on the eagle track the day before! We'd downloaded the cache before easter and as we came along wondered if there was any chance of FTF but we soon found that tussle had been won! Third one in was pleasing enough. A hard-earned cache deserves a late lunch on a beautiful day on top of a sand dune! TFTC Tacklehead a really interesting trip through the park for us. We saw emu tracks and so many cute little mini-monitor type lizards fleeing the track
#1295.....................NO DazzPete didn't tell us, in fact they kept up the ruse right up to the minute where Dad had located the cache & found their name signed for the FTF the day before - the joke was on us! It seems that the gauntlet has been thrown down & so it will be......lets dance shall we! Back to the cache - a very interesting place in the middle of nowhere with some nice 4WD'ing on the way in. TNLNSL TFTC tackle head - yet another great location you've brought us to, our thanks for the placement. Congratulations also to DazzPete on their FTF!

Day two of our Mallee Meander and while waiting for Skullracing to make their way across, what to do? Dow we wait for a Joint FTF attempt or make a go of it ourselves?
We just couldn't resist and had to head off to make the attempt. geoD made the find and opened the log to find it blank!
Woot FTF!
Now do we tell skullracing?
