#8791. I am driving up to Auckland and stooped here to avenge a previous DNF from 2017 when the cache was missing. Nice quick find today in the place indicated by the hint. Back to back XenaCommander caches (previous one was at Whakamaru). Again nice camo cover and cache in excellent condition. This is a one weird piece of art but fits in with the town corrugated iron theme. Whoever came up with that idea for Tirau was onto a winner. The streets were packed with tourists today. Signed the log here and replaced where found. Thanks XenaCommander for hiding it here.

I had been on a weekend roadtrip up to the big smoke to attend a mate's 50th party this evening, but now was the big drive back home. But it's also a great opportunity to try to grab some caches on my way.

It only took me a moment or two to find this cache. When opened, the log was in good condition so I quickly took care of the usual field etiquette before replacing the whole thing exactly as found and getting back to the car to crack on with the day.

Thanks for placing this cache.

PS [@the Seagnoid](http://coord.info/PR5DMHT) I think one of your juvenile forms has mutated! Very Happy

Cool log book! Tftc and leg stretch

30-Oct-20
A quick find. Cache is nice and dry in it's protective covering. I went on a road trip following the "Mega that wasn't" in Auckland over Labour weekend. TFTC.

24-Oct-20
Interesting spot on side of road. Anyone touch the top wire?
In lieu of Akld Mega 2020, we decided a side trip to the new tribute cache (to GC45) was in order. Travelling with South Island cachers, we found a number of caches including this one.
We have typically signed as mrandmrschosen1978 or occasionally MM78.

24-Oct-20
Visiting North Island from Otago as I still had my flights etc all booked last Christmas for what was going to be the Mega Weekend. Joined up with the Southland Geocachers (MrandMrsChosen1978, Wombat_4, NZBozzy, Kiscardi, Mrs Hazzer, Tregram and I) formed the Southern Raiders to have a Mega time caching in Auckland and Rotorua.

Day 2 - 6.30am start and 10.30pm back at hotel. Today the aim was to get to the GC45 plaque. A great day trip and some really good caches found, some old DNFs avenged and lots of new caching memories made.

***[======== NZ Mega 2020 ========](http://nzmega.com)***

[NZ Mega 2020](http://nzmega.com) is definitely happening, but has been postponed until 2021. It will be held in Auckland over Labour Weekend, 22 to 25 October 2021. It's going to be a massive celebration of geocaching:

* 20+ years of geocaching worldwide.
* 20+ years since New Zealand had the very first geocache hidden outside of USA.
* All the 20s and now 21 as well!

Talk to your geo-friends and start planning to be part of [this event](http://nzmega.com) - you won't want to miss it!

On our way to Rotorua. Cool spot for a cache. Love the art work. TFTC Smile

How random is this. Love the art work. TFTC

12-Oct-20
On my way back to Whangarei after completing the 50 km Taupo Ultra marathon on the weekend. Still a little stiff, so needed to break up the journey with some frequent stops to have a walk and find some caches.

Parked up here and it looked like two peas in a pod, except for the wrong badge on one of them. Cache was soon located, log signed and then returned safe and secure as found. TFTC

06-Oct-20
Stopped on our drive north from rotorua. Bit of a stretch of the legs before a quick find while the eye kept a lookout. Love the camo.
Thanks for the cache

11-Aug-20
Too wet in Tirau to look for caches. However, it had easied off when we got here and Mrs SoBad popped out of the car for a quick find. Good to have something to remind us of the area's main feature.
Thanks.

24-Aug-19
Did not find. Has it been stolen

26-Jul-19
In spite of extensive search, no luck here today. As it is a long time since last logged find, maybe CO could check on it?

25-Jul-19
Searched under the whole area the cache should be, including what seemed to be the obvious hiding spot. But couldn't find the cache. Suspect it may have been removed.

EDIT
Reading previous logs, maybe I was just looking in the wrong place. Will have to revisit some time.

02-Feb-19
Found it on my second attempt

19-Jan-19
Another quick find riding around the country heading towards kawerau TFTC

23-Dec-18
Pleased to finally turn this into a smiley face after several failed attempts where each time it was missing. This was a day placed I did not have and I am targeting these during the summer. Hint is slightly opposite to how I found it, it wasn't until I stepped back I spotted it. Tftc

09-Nov-18
Today was a day for a one way road trip from Napier to Auckland. I flew across from Auckland to pick up our son's 'new' car after winning a Trademe auction on Monday. (Sunday I'll be starting another leg of the Auckland - Wellington - Picton - Nelson journey) Time to find a few caches along the way of course. This took a wee while to get my hands on mainly because the cache and its hide location are not quite as per the listing. All good in the end though. TFTC, Biggles.

03-Nov-18
Another very quick cache stop on our road trip north. This is the final leg of the journey in the camper van, today we are travelling from Rotorua to Auckland where we return the van. Mr Potty and I will fly home to London and Mumander will fly south.

Fascinated by all the corrugated iron works in Tirau we stopped here, hopeful for some more information on their origins and connection. Another great piece of art. Cache was a quick find, best grabbed from below. Thanks

21-Oct-18
A park in grab today where we have previously struggled. Did this with Genie 23. TFTC

21-Oct-18
Quick find. TFTC

15-Oct-18
On a long trip down to the mega with Lis's crew. So for me it good for numbers and favorites caches. With several stops and a lot of caches and several souvenirs up for grabs the trip was the perfect opportunity to get my numbers up and get some challenges that I have qualified for.

15-Oct-18
We found this one while passing through the area today. I'm off to the Mega in Wellington with thegreatauk. I wanted to get a long line of smiles along our route. I saw this artwork two years ago on my way to the Turangi Mega and wondered if there was a cache here. We were short of time last time but not today. A quick find by an interesting piece of artwork thanks Smile

26-Aug-18
Hidden in plain site. Beaten AGAIN by Mrs Bm

23-Aug-18
The new cache threw us off a bit but it's a great cache!

17-Aug-18
Had to read through previous logs to find out what we were looking for, as it has been changed.

11-Aug-18
Great cache

04-Aug-18
Just starting to rain, quick find though, thank you

18-Jul-18
TFTC. Not what we were expecting, but good cache. Felt like someone had an eye on us the whole time. Successful day caching, and now it's time to head home.

23-May-18
So pleased this one was replaced. Did a little drive out here after work and found the cache no problem at all. Great place to have a little rest stop. TFTC

12-May-18
A neat little magnetic replacement cache for a quick pit stop here with very strange neighbours. Weather still poor so time to head home. TFTC.

13-Mar-18
As I was passing and noted the cache was DNF 3 times, I placed a small magnetic cache containing a log sheet for all future cachers. I hope that CO agrees with my action.

13-Mar-18
Logging as found by placing a new container.

02-Jan-18
Apparent where it should. E but not cache present.

29-Dec-17
As per last lo it doesn't appear to be there at the moment. Dang it, was a dates placed I didn't have

16-Dec-17
Afraid I didn't find the cache in the expected spot. Felt all around. The whole area had been weed-eated so possible it got flicked away somewhere. Too much traffic today to spend long looking for the remains.

05-Oct-17
Nice place. I remember you guys from Country Calendar. Love the concept. Cache in good nick. TFTC

30-Sep-17
Came down this way with Fencarrows and visitors from the USA. I had to DNF this last time I stopped here . . . . . Arrived at GZ and I was quite sure of where to look, but nothing??? And then Fencarrows spotted it a little ways out into the paddock. She was off to the car & came back with the pole for the sun umbrella so we could reach the cache. We got the cache alright but then couldn't get the innards out as it was squashed. With a bit of gentle squishing and squashing the tube took shape a bit more and a broken pen came out Surprised and then we got the log book out . . . . . . whew!! Our friends from the USA were interested in what we were doing (but I think they really thought we were quite mad) Big GrinBig Grin TFTC

30-Sep-17
Out with SethRaven with visitors from the USA. SethRaven requested a stop here due to a previous DNF. Arrived at GZ thinking we knew where to look, but alas no luck. Completely stumped. Looked around and aha there it was out in the paddock. Back to the car to get the pole for the sun umbrella so we could reach the cache. Cache retrieved then unable to access log book as cache had been trampled. With a bit of effort piece by piece of the pen appeared, as broken by the trampling. Log eventually signed and cached returned. An interesting first find for our visitors. TFTC

No idea where this might be. And what's a strain in this context anyway?

The travelling fox is sad =u,u=

20-Jul-17
Not there....

17-Jul-17
Stopped here after driving past here lots before . . . . . . tried to be as discreet as I can on this busy piece of road. I found the same as the last cacher . . . . . . lots of hidey spaces but no cache[?] Will have to return another day . . . . .

15-Jun-17
Finally got to stop and look for this as often drive past in a rush. But no luck . Found nice couple of holes but no cache. Maybe gone??

27-Apr-17
Thanks for great cache. Fun find on way home from wood splitting. Nice fruit at road stall too Smile

12-Mar-17

10-Mar-17
Loved this cache case!! Tftc

04-Mar-17
Our journey today goes from Te Awamutu to Rotorura. But we have enough time to found some caches near the road. So we found this one.
Thanks for showing this places and hidding the caches. Greetings from GermanySmile!!!

24-Feb-17

18-Feb-17
Great camo. Geocache full of water after very heavy rains!

11-Feb-17
Took a few minutes to suss this one out in between dodging the traffic going past. A great cache spot. Tftc!

10-Jan-17
Another geocaching trip with Nahkins. I was going down to Lichfield to pick six chooks. Decided to find 6 caches on the way. 100% success. Nahkins had invested in a flash looking GPS similar to the one I have borrowed off my son. They are much more reliable than our phones. #1 for the day. This was an easy find. There didn't seem to be much traffic until we came to find the cache. Lots of cars whizzing past. At least with two of us it doesn't look suspicious as if there is only one of us. The eye is quite faded but still admired the creativity. Nahkins was a bit slow with this one. I had found it while she was still trying to figure out the GPS. TFTC. Smile

10-Jan-17
Another geocaching trip with NZPatoto. She was going down to Lichfield to pick six chooks. Decided to tag along and find 6 caches on the way. My new xmas present to myself was an actual GPS gadget. I had one night to learn how to load and use it. They are much more reliable than our phones. #1. This was an easy find. Found by NZPatoto while I was learning how to read my GPS gadget, so was a bit slow. The eye is quite faded but still admired the creativity. There are some very clever artists. TFTC. Big Grin

08-Jan-17
Took a little searching but easy find on the end. Thanks.

08-Jan-17
Quick find, just small splinter in exchange for being heavy handed

05-Jan-17
Eye never notices it until now - what a great piece of artwork..and an easy find for our mini cachers. TFTC!!
