I'm staying in St Arnaud for a few nights and today I hiked up to Mt Robert, taking the Pinchgut Track up, then following the Robert Ridge Route as far as the Mt Robert ski field, then returning down Paddy's Track. Is was a beautiful day for it and a most enjoyable walk. My GPS beeped at GZ, I spotted some suspicious rocks and soon had the cache in hand. TFTC!
Staying at Lake Arnoud for two days gave me the opportunity to hike a short loop trail along the bushes and ski huts with very beautiful views on the lake with clouds and sun and clouds and sun. TFTC Fischus
Yay near the top. Just as I squatted down to find this one, I got muggled. They just laughed and carried on. Phew! TFTC
Seems like the hardest (steepest) part is done now - and a quick find here as well.Super happy to get all the missing smiles today.
Last time we didn't find it, so happy to turn it into a smiley today. We almost kept is a frown. We searched too far but had fun exploring the wall. At the end, Dad found it, and we were happy. Both container and logbook were in good condition.
Our NEW ZEALAND - TASMANIA - AUSTRALIA JOURNEY takes us to beautiful places and provides us with an incredible number of wonderful moments and experiences.Occasionally we also visit a few GeoCaches along the way.Searched in the wrong place..., then found it at the 0 point. The coordinates are perfect.Thank you for placing, maintaining and caring snapfish2 from SwitzerlandPS: Translated with the Deepl app
Finally able to do a longer hike out here on the mountain, so great up here with the nice views and the cool track. Of course I had to collect all geocaches along the way. Never was a long search, so no special remarks about the hides. Thanks to all CO's!

In order to satisfy the requirements of a challenge cache, todays aim was elevation up to Angelus peak, and back, along with a couple of side trips, in a day. Yes, it is possible even at this time of the year, with one end being in darkness though, the oh dear it's early end. I walked 40 km over the 15 1/2 hours and gathered together 27 caches. With the previous days snow in the area, the wind from the South, across the top of the ridge, created enough wind chill to freeze my drinking tube and make some ice crystals in my spare water bottle. And, just enough that there were a handful of snowflakes further along. Then, at the other of the day, the Northerly wind was warm. This was a few short of my original plan of 33 to keep on the safer side of darkness at the end of the trip.
This was #5. After a bit of a hunt round, I re-read the description and low and behold, the GPS is very accurate.

Found that one on a sunny day on this beautiful island!Auf einem Spaziergang an einem sonnigen Tag auf dieser schnen Insel gefunden!Greetingsegdd
Yay, cracked the summit. The bigger summit next time 9km along the ridge is now the plan.
Did not find and I had a good look about.
Did not find and I had a good look about.
We looked in various holes and expanded out search but had no luck here. Maybe it is lost in a big hole? Anyway going down now, in the woods it's pretty boring, at least caches make for a bit of fun around...
Found it after a couple of attempts with the GPS. TfTC. On the way back down from the circuit

Muggles at this spot too, the track is busy today! No worries just meant a compulsory rest stop Quick grab after everyone left.
Weather is going to be very hot while we are staying in St Arnaud for the next 3 days so today was a hike up Mt Robert to the Relax shelter via Pinchgut track, then across to Bushline hut and down Paddy’s track.
The hike up Pinchgut was not as difficult as I renembered, I might be a bit fitter these days compared to when I last did it over 20 years ago!! I had forgotten how beautiful the view is on the way up & from the summit We had a magic day weather wise & it actually wasn't too hot

Penultimate one before the top. Had to take a water break here as there were others around but they were gone in minutes, so it was a quick find after that. Enjoying the walk, TFTC jackieandgrant.
First full day in St Arnaud and it’s a warm one.
We decided on a trip up Mt Robert to the Relax shelter via Pinchgut track, then across to the hut and down Paddy’s track.
We looked at the weather and the day after is predicted to be even hotter, so today is the day for this and we got an early start.
We loved the climb up. It was not as difficult as I imagined or RG72 remembered, and we came across another couple to chat to on the way. The descent was a little more exposed, but no dramas here either. We did feel a bit drained after the trek though - probably lacking some fitness.
17 caches targeted today. Just one true DNF, another we gave a miss as there was a nice family settled in for a while. All caches signed RG + ricnz or variations close to that. Any particular notes on each cache is in the first paragraph/sentence, but we found them in pretty good condition.
Sorry for this cut and paste bit and thanks all COs for making the walk fun.

Great views for a rest near the top here! Cache in good condition, nice easy find
Nice easy find with help from paddle chick while coming down from bushline hut back to the car park tftc
Quickly found on day 3 after spending a great night at Angelus hut. Getting close to the finish!
Thanks for hiding.
Thanks for hiding.
What a view! And definitely needed a wee break! But finding the cache made it worth it. TFTC
Took a fair amount of hunting, downside to uaing the phine instead of GPS today, eventually cache in hand just as muggles arrived. TFTC
Dad for the find.
Mum just stoked to make it past the tree line. Kids off in the distance exploring an alpine wonderland.

One upside from the recent lockdown period is that it gave me the opportunity to think about some day walks and overnighters that I've wanted to do for a while but never got around to. So, with NZ regaining some sense of freedom I set off for one such walk - the Mount Robert circuit.
Almost at the 'summit' and far quicker than I'd expected so plenty of time for more caching on the way back down the other side.
Thankfully hidden in a more accessible bank than I first feared.
Thanks jackieandgrant

And its onwards and upwards again. Searched that rock wall for way too long. The hint fits but no success. Bummer Start up the track but retrace my steps to finally snag and tag this elusive one. Cheers. A hint for others its NOT the rock wall over there.
Zara and I are off for some much needed tree time, with Lake Rotoiti on my agenda for today. Spent a fabulous time Friday and Saturday walking around Lake Rotoiti. Today my sights are set on Mt Robert. So lets go. Started from Buller River Bridge at 6.20am to finally get back to Zara at 2.30. Then decided to return home after a stop at Karens for an ice cream. Its been an amazing weekend.

We stopped here to remove the warm clothes we needed on the windy summit. I checked the GC app and saw that we were almost standing on the cache. It was a quick find for us. Thanks for the cache!
#3872 I didnt find the two previous, so it was nice to find this one nearly on the top. Thanks for the cache, greetings from Czech Republic.
Clear and sunny day was awesome for this short track around Mt.Robert and the caches made it even more interesting. Thank you
PS We spotted a kea above us on the top so take care of your snack

#634 Sunny monday morning was perfect to climb mount Robert and find some caches around the way. TFTC
I went to NZ for a 5 week long roadtrip. The nature was just stunning! This geocache showed us again a very nice place. TFTC!
This was always a welcome place to stop whenever we came up this hill (at least for me), whether it be for skiing or tramping. It has been quite a few years since last up here and I notice a nice seat a short distance along from this cache. The cache itself was a nice quick find, just like the others so far today, but this was an especially significant one as it is number 2500 for us. tftc
What a gorgeous view took longer than it should have finally paddle chick spotted it. Tftc jackieandgrant
I had another picked out to find, but as you said, great place to stop and adjust your pack. Whilst I was stopped and waiting a few seconds for hubby, I noticed the spot and thought this would be a great place for a cache. I knew there was a few on the way up the Pinchgut Track......haa haa. There it was in hand. So didn’t need to get the one a bit higher, I was very pleased with this one. The views between light rain and clouds were awesome, worthwhile doing full circuit, scenery changes every few minutes.
In the morning we did the Pinchgut Track to the top. After looking in most obvious spot we found it elsewhere. Trust the coordinates. We went back the same track to avoid freezing wind on the other side of the mountain.
Thanks for showing! Tftc

Our Christmas this year was spent with the very very extended whanau, introducing the overseas portion of them into Chrismas in the bush.
Final stretch and suddenly lots of caches! We ran up ahead & made all the finds while the slower end of the group were still making their way down!

Heading away for a few days with the extended whanau for a bit of hiking and some caching on the way, signing the log books as Team Polak for all of us. Last day of walking out and heading back home. Amazing scenery along the ridge that we had to follow as it bears the name of one in our party! great views, high winds, but rain went away, and we had a ball! Now for the downhill part to drop down back to the car. We spent ages looking for this one, gave up, just to discover it in the obvious spot! TFTC!!
mmm Does not look good there are some pretty good holes for the cache to be but some holes that worry me about the cache falling in, with 2 DNFS in a row it may like a bit of a check one day when you are up the lake. any way TFTE
(thanks for the experience)

Even tho there were many muggles, I found it pretty quick! Awesome view, thanks!
We are keen geocachers on holiday from Tauranga and grabbing a few smileys as we go. Walked up Paddy's track then down Pinchgut and had a wonderful walk. Over thought this one, before coming back to the right level for an easy find, eventually, with our geocashing eyes in focus. Cache is all good. TFTC
Nooo!!!! We really didn't want a DNF but we just couldn't find the cache. We searched everywhere that kea's would go and hide but nothing was found. Searched for about 30 minutes but had to give up as we still had a long way to go.
This year me and RobLigtenberg were lucky enough to spend almost 2 months in New-Zealand on a great holiday. We explored both islands and just like everyone else we loved it. Apart from all the major attractions (roturua, tongariro, abel tasman, the glaciers, the fjords and so much more) we also tried to do some caches in order to discover even more of the country. On our way to the top of Mt Robert we were amazed by the amount of caches along the path. A great excuse to take this route and to take break now and then. Unfortunately clouds blocked our view when we were up at the top, but apart from that we had a great time. Easy find!

During our nearly two month holiday in New Zealand we spend time on both the northern and southern island. Both islands happened to be very beautiful, each in its own way. Together with Ninagustein we searched for many caches, as we think it is a great way of discovering the country. Numerous caches get you to places you otherwise wouldn't have visited and it is also fun to find caches at touristic places. On this day we did a hike to the top of Mount Robert. It was a nice and easy hike but unfortunately it was quite foggy on the top so the view wasn't great. Luckily we found three caches on our way to the top. This was the third one.

Took a bit but just because of a little chat with muggles about the weather in front of GZ.
Ninalila and I spent a few days visiting around Nelson's lakes and Karamea.
We went hiking to discover nice places and landscapes, and of course play geocaching at the same time
We found all the boxes without difficulty and discovered really good spots for photography.
We will keep good memories from everything we saw (Lake Rotoiti, Lake Rotoroa, Mt Robert, Moria Gate Arch, Mirror Tarn...)
It was a good opportunity to see a lot of native birds on each tracks we went.
So surprising to see them so close and get great pictures
We signed on logbooks with our team nickname : Lekiprokos
Thank you to all owners and their boxes for the discoveries we made.

fefe.adrien and I have visited the Nelson's lakes during few days and spent a great time.
Nice to see a preserved fauna & flora at the lake Rotoiti, many birds were so closed ! Nice waterfall at the lake Rotoroa.
Geocaching was perfect for walking and tramping around, especially the Mount Robert : such a nice view from the summit !
All of boxes were quite easy to find and well maintained but to many boxes found to make the difference in each log.

WOOHOO!! Almost 5 and a half years after my first find comes my 1000th! And how fitting that it is while doing something I love: hiking up a hill, and with a great view to suit. Glad this is the cache to fit the number because of the container size (and that view!)
But we had to work for this one. There is a very obvious hint object nearby and the GPS is pointing to it. Lots of possible hidey-holes too! Between numerous passing muggles, some on a daywalk doing the loop like us, others with overnight packs headed for Angelus Hut and even a hunter, we had to take a few breaks from searching to let them admire the view before moving along. Both of us went over the area about 4 times each and each time we widened the search area a bit. Sveppi finally spotted it. Fair enough it matches the hint, but not where I expected! We signed the log and then tried to take creative pictures to celebrate my 1000th find (photo to be attached soon). All up we must have been up here for 45 minutes, which was great as we kept admiring the view and watching the weather change from fully sunny to foggy and drizzly then partly sunny again.
Dropped off lovely Groundspeak lackey geocoin too. Thanks for the cache.

This is turning out to be a great walk. Reaching the bush line now fanfan-77 is really excited to find this one as it will be #1,000 for her... so excited in fact we looked in lots of possible locations, between many muggles, all matching the hint to no avail. Please no not a DNF (not on such a significant find!!).. back to basics, and mmm there it is Phew... Nice spot, nice cache, a fav from me for the location and age and that we had fun taking pictures to document the 1,000. TFTC
Found walking out from Lake Angelus hut, enjoying sunshine and great views. Quickly spotted thanks!
Out for a Sunday walk with all the Makka pakkas. Plane for the day is to do the loop up to bush line hut and back down pinch gut. Had a lovely day out with lots of caches to find, the Nelson lakes as a backdrop what more could you won't. Thanks for all the caches we found
Headed up to the lake for a sunday afternoon walk... weather has been cooking me in town lately - so nice to be up here in the shade. I know the shade won't last on this Mt Robert loop - but not too hot today.
Track seems busy - both car parks are full - so will be interesting to see how many times I get muggled today.
Please to see the top here - need to stop for a drink and snack soon - clambered around this rocky area for a bit before spying the right spot.

The sun came out and we were surrounded by brown creepers and flies. Greetings from Scotland. TFTC
Not as complicated as we originally thought. Learning to trust the accuracy of the GPS.
Time to turn back as the cloud was closing in the ridge and the wind was getting pretty bitter above the bushline. Great views down the lake. TFTC
Awesome day with a little bit of snow. The view on the lake and on the mountains is beautiful. Tftc
Mrs Kiwimykl (GC name NZDi) had had a cr@p week at work and needed to de-stress. When NZDi needs to de-stress, she climbs mountains and today she suggested Mt Robert. Knowing this would be a physical challenge in her current state, I suggested perhaps we do some of the more gentler tracks out at Pelorus Bridge but NZDi wasn't having a bar of it as she needed something more serious to de-stress.
So I did a quick pocket query on St Arnaud caches and loaded them into the eTrex, we packed a lunch and some GC essentials, got into some appropriate attire and headed up the valley to de-stress. Arriving at 9.15am, the aim of the day was to clear as many caches as we could on the Mt Robert Paddy's/Pinchgut Track circuit and see how we went from there.
We did the circuit in a clockwise direction figuring we would have Paddy's Track pretty much to ourselves on the way up and may meet a few others coming up as we went down the Pinchgut and we were pretty much on the money with that assumption. Accordingly this was our 10th of 15 caches on the circuit and 11th of 16 caches overall.
We stopped just above this cache to have a bite to eat and enjoy the view before we got into the bushline. After lunch we went in search of the cache which NZDi found while I was looking at the larger wall.
Found with NZDi.

A weekend trip up to the Nelson Lakes with G H 6 7 1 0 and the Seagnoid was planned with a couple of days of the weekend in one of the work baches not far off the lake side in Rotoiti/ St Arnaud. Targets were set; get the Seagnoid past 4000 caches, get more than 50 a day for G H 7 6 1 0, and get me past 3200 cache finds. Also in target was some tramping, some boat caching (grabbing whilst moored as close as safely possible to G Z) some 4 W Driving and some basic park and grabs. We also wanted to get all of the puzzle/unknown caches in St Arnaud as well as 100% of the multi caches in St Arnaud (cache Tectonics!). There was driving, boating, walking, rain, mist, sun, ducklings, eels and trout, sandflies (of course), beech trees and great views. Fun and sweat (no tears), a wasp sting and over 100 caches found for me. We all surpassed our targets and at the end of 2 full on days we returned to a cooler Blenheim than when we left tired out.
The last day of January and this January has probably been my most prolific with lots of great South Island caches, with a handful of N I ones thrown in for good measure. Todays plan is to start with some P &Gs, then off up the Pinch Gut for a nice tramp, then back to the car.
Nice and easy find at this cache and I'm now caching as high above sea level as when I did the Tongariro Crossing last year which is a good feeling and I like very much.
