19/10/21 Find #5076
Today was going to be a big day for Fangsoki and I. We had plans to get a number of high altitude caches in as priority goal, and then as many other caches on our list as possible. This meant a serious 4WDing morning to start the day with.
This was our second cache of the morning, and we drove to within about 80 metres of the cache.
Heading down, soon enough we had to make our way through the long grass, and after a bit of a search managed to find the cache. Ants have moved in and eaten logbook a tad, but nothing too terrible.
Thanks for the cache Danielc.

1MinnieMoo and I picked our way to this one next. I parked up about 75m from the cache and we walked down to GZ. (This - I did not regret!).

We left the path and went through the grass toward GZ. After about 7 minutes of searching or so, 1MinnieMoo announced she had found it. We signed the log and took a few snaps of the beautiful view.

Time for an early morning stroll Razz
I didn't fancy the Mt Baldy trail as a burnoff has been going on up there for a couple of days now,
and it was probably going to flare up again later today [:o]

So Mt Moore was the next target Razz

And arriving at the track junction,
where the sign says "No motorised vehicles past this point",
the sign which the locals completely ignore,
I strolled towards GZ Big Grin

About halfway the views of Atherton opened up.
The towne doesn't look that far away [:o]
And after about 15 minutes of easy strolling up and down,
I was within 10 metres of the cache Razz

Oooh !! Waist high itchy grass !! Red Face
Maybe I should have worn long pants for this one instead of shorts ??
"Stop whining you ninnie !" Wink

I stomped in !!
And found some rocky outcrops in the grass Razz
An unsteady stumble following the outcrops and I spied the rock that was the wrong way around Razz
Yep !! This rock wasn't showing signs of having been subjected to weathering ...
... ergo the cache was behind it Big Grin

Yep !! There was the cache.
Melted corner, but basically intact Smile
A small hole has been chewed in it though,
allowing the ants to get in !! [:o]

I shook them out and cleaned up the contents.
The logbook was surprisingly signable !!
Just a slight smell of mustiness about it,
befitting such an ancient cache [^]

Well that was easy Smile

Now to see if I can get to the other cache just a few hundred metres away Razz
Nup !! Red Face
Back to the geomobile Smile

Currently camped at Herberton, not much more time on the tablelands, but caching a few more smilies..... Got to the intersection and found a sign that said "No motor vehicles" beyond this point, so we didn't go any further...
What a shame Daniel

Thanks to the last person for saying persistence paid off! My 9yr old was loosing hope when we checked the activity and it spurred us on to his first find.

Approached this one the long way - from the north - for no better reason than to give myself a really big walk on an unexpectedly warm day.
Poked around and found lots of really good hiding places that were strangely empty of any cache.
Persistence paid off in the end.
Took funky little car badge, left a monster.
Thanks Danielc for yet another great cache.

While spending 16 months abroad, travelling through all states of Australia and also having a two months break in Thailand I did a lot of geocaching.
After many, many caches accompanied by the strong will not to write any standard logs, I ended up with more than 1000 finds, all waiting for an official log. After intense considerations and carefully weighing my options, you now receive this special limited edition numbered log.

This is my unique non-standard log #82.

Thanks a lot Danielc for taking care of this cache, showing me this place and turning my travels into an adventure!

Greetings from Germany.
Keep on caching!

Many thanks to all cache owners for placing and maintaining caches for our enjoyment.

Hi all,
Following last log, I drove up yesterday to renew the container. Road is not as good as it was when cache was hidden, but still passable for a four wheel drive. Only attempt to drive right in during dry weather however.
Cheers,
Dan

Well, every possible hide was high overgrown. We were just about to give up when a sudden "I found it" was audible. And really, Mrs Wazza & Kara revealed the hidden container.

An interesting drive into this cache in Walter and Ingrid's 4-wheel drive. It had everything - washouts, trees over the road, boulders and water bogs.
After arriving at the GZ we spent a lot of time searching for this cache. The area, after the wet season, is currently very overgrown with tall grass which obscured possible hiding spots. Added to this were two GPS units that just couldn't make up their minds.
It was the persistance of Mrs Wazza&Kara who eventually located the cache.
The cache and its contents are in good order, even though it is almost two years since the last log entry.
Thanks Danielc for the cache and the driving experience to get here.

Another fantastic cache - a great way to view Atherton and the surrounding ranges, not to mention the great 4wdriving to get there! I think I am falling in love with this area thanks for bringing us here.

PS for those who like us are from outside of Atherton - the approaches to this cache dont require you to be a really experience 4wdriver so dont be put off the caches up here bring you to some great spots.

We have ridden by here many times in the past or stopped to admire the view. Today we had another reason to stop.
Thanks Daniel for another Quadable cache.

After completing stage 6 of the RRRR series the gps was showing 2 new caches well within reach so with daylight to burn we drove passed the 2 wheel drive carpark and got most of the way to the 4 wheel drive carpark before deciding to get some exercise. Still amazed at just how far our pretend 4X4 can take us.

After noticing way too many caches in the Atherton area without our name on them we decided today was the day to do something about it. Dusting off the Geo-Landy we headed out to cross this cache off our list. TFTC TNLN SL

An easy drive in to this one the GPS did not like the rocks? or something had me going in circles at ground zero but there is only so many points on a compass so got there in the end. As per Danielc's style the views were magnificient. TNLN TFTC

It was a quite adventurous drive we did in our 4x4 yesterday night right to the cache site.[^] Turning on the steep slope and climbing up the hill again was really hard work and somewhat demanding for the car. Thus the hidden treasure became a DIDO.[:o)] We retrieved it on the spot and gave it a good rest in a rather windy night joining us in the car giving us dreams of bygone times of vast volcanic activities and occasionally a vista of Pompeii far down there, or was it Atherton?[|)]
In the early dawn the waning sickle moon rose romantically over the lights of the Tablelands' capital still sleepy.[^]
This is a cache we like![^] Thank you, Daniel.

Being back to Atherton and just about to leave to Goldsborough I could not find the FTF Trophy we were so proud of.Surprised The only explanation was, that we just left it in the cache container.Twisted[:(!] Consequently I left Ingrid and our guests in town rushing up the bumps again. Nothing was in the jar causing a big confusion and disappointment.Sad But than trying to rearrange the debris spread in the back of the car while jumping from one bump to the next the missing jewel turned out to lie on the back bench in open sight....
