I was fortunate enough to have a vehicle for a little bit so I ducked out to grab three caches that I had been watching and particularly one puzzle I had solved a while back.
This was the first cache for today and after parking on a side road it was a little walk there and back for the quick find.
Interesting village that can be somewhat seen.

Tregearp and I were passing today and noted this cache. We were fortunate enough to know Diana Lady Isaac and some years ago had a tour of the village as it was being started.

We were quite moved to when unexpectedly we found a tribute cache to someone who was a special part of our lives. Many thanks for the cache La Vista.

LD was a friend of SJT_NZ and me and we were lucky enough to enjoy Peacock Springs for our wedding reception and enjoy the company of LD and other guests. While heading to retrieve another cache we drove past a cache and given its location checked out the theme. On the return a gumbootless SJT_NZ braved the puddles for the retrieve and log. Thanks for dedicating a cache to a good friend and I hope at sometime the village will be accessible to the general public as was her wish.

Just by the title I expected this to be a memorial for some heroine who has saved a village from fire hundred years ago, or something like that.
Turned out it's a different kind of saving. Not less curious though.

Hoping to see you at the [Oamaru Geofest](https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC6M2V0_oamaru-geofest-2017) during Labour Weekend 21-22 October 2017. Let's all help this a successful event!

Did you know that planning has started for a Mega Event in Wellington in 2018? Check out the details on the [Wellington Event NZ (WENZ) Website](https://sites.google.com/site/wenzgeo2018/home) or visit the event's page on [FaceBook](https://www.facebook.com/groups/590545297801072/)

Thanks to the Cache Owner who has gone to the trouble of creating this cache, determining the coordinates and then averaging them to make sure they are accurate, placing the cache and registering it online for our enjoyment. Without Cache Owners doing their bit, there wouldn't be a fun hobby that we all love - so again a big THANK YOU. For our bit, all we need to do is find and log the cache that was carefully placed for our personal enjoyment. As we log it we should consider that the Cache Owner also needs to maintain it - when the log sheet fills up, they must replace it. When the container becomes full of water, they need to empty it. When the container is broken, they need to repair it. When it goes missing they need to find or replace it. Well..... the great news is we can do our bit too - make sure your log doesn't take an entire page - just a name and date. If full of water, empty and dry the cache as best as possible. Be careful when handling the cache and make sure you replace it where you found it. If it has a bag, seal it. Just remember - the Cache Owner showed respect to you by placing the cache - please respect them and fellow cachers that follow you by being careful with the cache. And if you have a spare log sheet and the cache you are at needs one, please leave it behind. Finally, if the cache does need maintenance, please let the Cache Owner know - you can log a Maintenance Log or you can drop a line to the Cache Owner. Above all - have fun and remember the Geocaching Code.

#2,717: Saving Smiley!
I came to this one after a nice evening mountain bike ride with GeoYoungling #1 (a rare event!). Very interesting site to visit. A security guard in a car pulled out of the site while I was looking, but he drove off after locking up. Quick find, sign, and return. All in good shape!

I have been planning this trip for a while now as I had some airpoints due to expire and wanted to go somewhere for Wellington Anniversary Weekend. So I've made it a 4 day weekend and come down from Palmerston North for a caching road trip. I have two goals for this weekend, to get to 2500 caches before 23 January (which I've completed) as that is when I took up caching last year and to get caches on as many latitude minutes as possible that will hopefully qualify me for a challenge cache in the Manawatu. This is day four and my last day. I've had a great time and found over 200 caches but it's time to head home to reality.

On to the last couple of caches before heading to the airport. Thankfully it was a quick find here whilst the trucks screamed past but it took a while to return to the road because of them. Love this story. TFTC

Wow, that's pretty impressive. I've dreamed about doing this if I had the money. There are just so many beautiful and special historic buildings that are being lost, and it would be wonderful to save them. It's great to see someone is doing it. I look forward to seeing if this place is opened to the public in future. Tftc.

Another day, another random drive to cache. We set off after lunch to find a few in the wider area, to see how far we get and what we can fit into an afternoon/evening. The weather was perfect - drizzle the whole day, turning into rain at times, meaning a general paucity of muggles Big Grin A huge thanks to all CO's for their hides!!!

Day 4 of the Mega. Decided to take a drive via the Cty Center to the Goldola. Stopped for a cache on the way and then up the mountain on a glorious day. Did two caches at the top of the mountain and then had lunch there and headed over to the Orana Wildlife Park. Really enjoyed it there and got to see lots of animals. Mycro Man had a ball there. Did a few more caches en route and on the way back to the airport. Thanks for a great day out.

Kyzabra and I headed over for the Christchurch Mega from Perth, WA. We teamed up with our caching buddies from Queensland, Gunnie69 and GhostGums for a bulk of the finds. We were joined by tealby and Urch fir this leg of our journey.

A lot of planning was involved with literally hundreds of puzzles solved and we targeted some highly favorited caches as well as those that filled gaps in grids and calenders!

We had a fantastic time caching in the cooler climate and with no fear of snakes or other nasties! Christchurch is my old home town but I did not know about caching when I lived there so it was fun exploring the City with a different objective.

We were glad to grab the smiley on this one and we replaced the container as found. Thanks La Vista for placing this and bringing us to this spot!

This is my find #4240 and find #10 today.

25-Oct-15
Jinta29 and I decided to head out this morning and grab a few smileys. Smile we joined up with Urch and Tealby before heading to the Mega.

A group of us from Oz over for the Mega teamed up today to go cache hunting, with our wishlist being to find 12 varieties of caches in a day, a feat only possible whilst a Mega is being held.
With many eyes searching we had no problems spotting the cache.
Many thanks for the cache La Vista.

25-Oct-15
Urch and I were on a mission today, and joined up with Kyzabra and Jinta29 to find 12 different cache types in one day (or 11 types for me, as the Tealby B Team had already found the one & only virtual in Christchurch). This was one of several traditional caches that were found. TFTC.

Our team for the Mega weekend was signing as VYV (Vamber, Yorkshirekiwi83 and Vistra). we found quite a few in the short space of time we were together, where I can I will make comments about the cache. We had teamed up back in Auckland and had been busy planning what we were going to target and in what order, of course plans changed even more so when we were down here, but that is part of what makes it fun and I had a great time over the weekend, thanks to all the CO's for placing.

Quick find TFTC

24-Oct-15
Today I teamed up with yorkshirekiwi83 and vamber to hit a couple of the cache trails around Christchurch and find a few other caches along the way. We signed the logs as "VYV" to save time and space on the log. After working on the Smurfs series we toured some of the back roads picking up a few more caches before heading back to the Mega event. TFTC!
