I noticed this cache on the map and wanted a multi to add some colour to my finds for the day. It isnt found very often, so I got some unloved. I have mixed feelings about McMillan. He did some extraordinary exploration, but I wouldnt say he discovered Gippsland. The aborigines knew about the region and unfortunately they were persecuted by McMillan and some of his cronies, massacring them in different ways all over Gippsland. I did enjoy finding the cache. Unfortunately the rain settled in while I made the find.

YAY - Big Grin I found 'Calulu - Angus McMillan' this afternoon. The required information was found quickly, calculations made and I was off to find GZ. The cache was found safe and sound in its hidey hole. Sadly, a decomposing wombat is very close to GZ and its odor is not very pleasant Sad. Thanks to the greynomads for the original setting up of this cache and to Poiter.h for the ongoing maintenance.PS: The Troll Dolls [TN6TR0] were with me on my great caching adventure today.

Without this cache you wouldn't know the cairn existed. Very interesting. The cache is dry and in good condition.

Although we’re camping at Dargo I needed a day down on the flats to expand my smiley faces. This was on the way to Bairnsdale so stopped at the first way point, collected the clues and made my way to GZ. Another lovely spot. TFTC

31-Jul-21
Completed the calculations, worked out coordinates, a short drive later and the cache was in a fairly obvious spot. TFTC!

Thanks greynomads

12-Aug-18
Drove past the cache today and stopped to check out the monument, wondering how long all these monuments will be around Gippsland seeing McMillon is out of favor currently! Anyway we found GZ but the referance to McMillon has been removed here. TFTC, another one in the series completed

25-May-18
Another of the Angus McMillan monuments found and the cache logged and returned. Nice to see so much greenery in the paddocks with the large amount of crop under irrigation.

Thanks greynomads for the cache placement here.

Exploring the area we called in to gather the information for this one. As geoP was getting back in the geoMobile she managed to step in 'something' putrid; the smell of which followed us around for the rest of the day it was that strong.

THe final was found with no issues but that smell drove us back to our previous find in an attempt to rid ourselves of it.

The long weekend was here and it was time for fitzy_1965 and I to head down to Vic in the geo-unit for an epic geomission Cool We had a great time camping, cruising around admiring the beautiful scenery and nabbing LOTS of caches! A great weekend of quality caching all round! Smile

A neat little multi where the cache was a nice quick find [^]

Thanks for the multi, greynomads Cool

14759. Found during a long weekend caching run down through the Bombala / Genoa / Mallacoota / Cann River / Orbost / Lakes Entrance / Bairnsdale regions with specimenX.

A long weekend caching plan was hatched with specimenX to head down to Victoria for 4 days of caching and camping. Had a fantastic time driving around enjoying the scenery, camping at various locations, plus the huge number of caches to be found. Day Four was here, and we packed up again. Next find for the day. A nice quick Multi. Found the date, and once GZ was calculated we had a quick find at GZ. Signed the log, returned the cache, and we headed off to the next one.

Thanks to all the COs for placing their caches !!

On reading the cache notes , we are sure we both learnt about Angus at school - thanks for the reminder. We couldn't help but notice the ready made access for locals at the posted co'ords!

This is one of the caches we were able to find while staying in Bairnsdale to celebrate a very special family birthday.

Our thanks to greynomads for bringing us to this location.

Tried to find on the way to school this morning but ran out of time. But on the way home Cha-Ching!!! Found it. Tftc

03-Jul-15
Found this one my trip from Lakes Entrance to Phillip Island. I was looking for caches with higher difficulty or isolated for a NZ challenge cache I am doing. I was also choosing multis as well for July being a multi month challenge.

This fitted most of the criteria and so was a good cache to collect. I initially drove past wp1 and then had to backtrack. I was surveyed by the bovine inspectors who watched me check out everything but what was directly in front of my face. At least I provided them entertainment for today! I worked out the coordinates for wp2 and initially thought it was on the other side so I parked at a suitable place and started walking. Halfway there I realised it was there not here so back to the car and drove to it. Signed the log today.

Thanks for the cache and the history lesson.

This was interesting seeing this old memorial.
Did the sums and headed to GZ.
A quick find and no spiders today.
Thanks to the greynomads for this multi.
A sunny morning with little wind.

22-Jun-14
On such a lovely day it was time to get out and about with the geo family for a day of caching.
Our last cache for the day, we had to persuade a few resident spiders to relinquish there hold on cache container before we could sign the log.

GPS was spot on. And yes we are afraid of spiders.

26-Jun-13
Delightful sunny afternoon. The first after a rather wet and dreary two weeks in East Gippsland. What to do to fill in an hour - grab some caches of course!
We have passed this memorial many times. This however was the first time to stop and read it, as it has been for most of this series that we have done. Got the required info and back in the car. Reached the GZ eventually and was interested to read the sign here with further information. Not having that fear, soon had the cache in hand. TNLN. SL. Replaced cache carefully

Thousands passed this way today, not many took notice of this monument, and less of the second. It's amazing what you can get away with while part of a 3,500 strong group of cyclists travelling down the road. I was able to park at GZ, retrieve the cache etc and nobody questioned what I was doing!

Thanks for the cache greynomads.

25-Nov-12
With the GVBR passing right by WP1 today, I stopped in to check out the monument and figure out the final destination at least. At first, it looked like GZ was in the wrong direction Sad but as I continued, the O3 reset and the ride was going to take me close enough for the find Smile. After having my pickie taken at the photo point nearby Big Grin, I was soon signing the log at 11:40.

Another great bit of info about the discoverer of the area Big Grin.

TNLNSL. Thanks greynomads.

found the first, fun about that have used that road for years and never noticed the structure, got to the second point only to meet a angry black snake who i disturbed......so I retreated but I will be back some other day

04-Feb-12
7th find of the day, and 3308th total find at 15:12

Once the clue was found we had no trouble locating the cache. There were plenty of people dipping in the river under the nearby bridge. (I think we should head for a dip in the pool ourselves.)

Took: Nothing
Left: Nothing
Thanks greynomads for the cache

Collected the required info and made the calculations to locate GZ. Had found the cache and signed the log then while I was seated in the GeoPatrol documenting the find, a passerby stopped to ask if I needed any help, I suspect that it wouldn't happen all the time. TFTC

22-Mar-11
Found today in between appointments in Bairnsdale and Lindenow. This is the second Angus Macmillan cache I have done today, at this rate I will turn into prime beef! Anyway, saw the cairn on the side of the road, was able to gather the required information without having to leave the car. Calculated GZ a bit more than "a few hundred metres" away, double checked, no problem with the maths but the location seemed reasonable so off I drove! Found the cache fairly easily, and recovered using spider proof methods. No spiders were found though and definitely none inside the cache this time! Signed the log, TNLN. Thanks to the greynomads for an interesting cache, glad that one is in this little area that I have been around many times without even knowing the history.

Another Angus McMillan - he is everywhere. Nice area.
Plenty of cobwebs hiding the cache but no spiders that I could feel.
T Gertie travel bug (Not in Iguana Creek as listed - Bertie must be here) will see if we can retrieve him tomorrow.

Another chance to fill in some missing gaps in my 'explorers of Australia' knowledge Smile
After yesterdays encounter with an Angus memorial in Bairnsdale, this was the first of two Angus memorials I bumped into today Smile
Another mighty stone monolith and a tidy little garden just goes to show how fond of him the locals are even today Big Grin

Of course you could drive past this spot numerous times and never notice it without a cache [:o]
But once noticed it commands you attention.

Once I had the numbers to find the cache with I set off again for some more exploration of my own.
Not far away as promised was another Angus memorial.
Much more modest this time.
And just near it was the spider guarded cache Big Grin

Judging by the rich market gardens in the valley here, Angus's call about the quality of the land was right.

16-Jan-10
Found with no "spider encounters" - used a stick to retrieve the cache after reading the previous log, just to be sure.

27-Dec-09
My last one in the area. I enjoyed doing this cache right up until I retrieved the cache and started to open it. At that point a black spider ran out from the side of the container and up my arm. Cache and it's contents where dropped everywhere... Picked up all the bits and signed the log. Spider disappeared. TFTC

05-Dec-09
After some work around the house I took a blast on the bike to get this one. Took a few favourtie back roads.
Gathered info and off to GZ. Quick find and sign. Quicker ride back. Well not that quick. WinkTNLN
Thanks greynomads for this series of Angus caches.

Our last 'nomad' cache for the day - Mrs E obtained the relevent info quickly and we headed back to the gz - Only to discover a vehicle with no person present parked at the gz! Hmmm, another cacher or farmer??? We drove back past and worked out it was a water car. We parked on the north side and walked back towards the cache admiring the river and the flats. We soon discovered the owner of the vehicle - appeared he was checking the pump meters for the nearby veggie farms. He soon moved on and we could get to the cache. I could just see it without bending down and I discreetly showed it to Mrs E - thankfully she spotted and mentioned the rather big and hairy legs on the cache!!! Surprised
I then decided on using a cache-recovery-tool that I carry in my backpack - I was able to persuade the BIG HUNTSMAN to stay behind whilst obtaining the cache. I then signed the log and replaced the cache - I think I brushed his legs with my hand replacing it!!!
No swaps here today. Thanks to the Greynomads for the cache - and the last one for us today - Just enough time to travel home to collect the geo-kids!
Elmer!
