No luck with this one today, I wasn't able to find anything that matched the hint.
With unreliable service we happened across this location while turning around to get another cache. Nice hide! Tftc
Looks like the foliage from nature has take over this geocache. There is a lot of human rubbish in this spot too, unfortunately we don't have a plastic bag or the time to clean it all up but glad to stretch our legs (or spread them?) and read a little slice of NZ history.
Found this one nice and easy. Paper in container is wet and i couldnt get it out of tube to log my find
Thanks
Thanks
Find Number 7161. My daughter is walking the Te Araroa so I decided to meet her for Christmas day so was heading to Pakiri Beach. As I was heading to Mangawhai first I stopped for this one along the way. Managed to park correctly but still had to be careful on my departure. Thank you for the placement.
A place of history I was not aware of.

Pulled over on driveway carefully. Didnt let kids out. Cache was quick to locate. Signed and replaced.tftc.
On the way up north, with the elder Future Finder, to visit family, so, thought we would break up the trip with a few caches along the way. We left State Highway One via the Kiawaka-Mangawhai Road and returned to the main road via Baldrock Road allowing us a nice little detour loop to find caches along. We parked up along side the monument and I took the time to read the inscription; an interesting piece of history. The GPSr was pointing towards the other side of the road, but, I decided to follow my nose instead and found the cache in a logical spot. Cheers for the cache placement!
Rick-a-mortis was here OZR3RZ
Bit of history on the stone . Pitty they didn't allow for people to ark legally

Nice find with woolwood9 today.
*We enjoyed the drive / walk around the area.*
Stamped logs as tm/ww NZ which may just look like a black smudge on plastic logs!
TFTC

On our way home after a few days wandering around the northland area. Aha we knew just where this was going to be.................but we were very wrong. Lol. Mr S soon made the find tho once we realised our mistake. Interesting plaque, thanks for bringing us here.
Thanks nodo.
Thanks nodo.
Homeward bound from a few days in the Far North stopping frequently along the way collecting clues for the 'Mystery at the Museum' geocaching event. A little side trip here, and yes we did read the plaque. Sapphire clue collected. TFTC
I am visiting Northland for the first time is some 29 years, seeing some friends that have recently moved up here. Today was really just supposed to be a lazy day, after driving almost 800km in the last 2 days, but I can't be trusted not to jump in the car and do a bit of local exploring lol!
Having parked up right beside GZ, I walked around to look for this cache. It was pretty much where I would have hidden it myself, which is my normal way of searching for caches.
I took care of the usual caching admin, then replaced everything back exactly as I found it before heading back to the car to check out a few more around here.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache.

Love these caches....under our nooses in front of our faces. Amazing piece of roadside (now) history.
I grew up and lived in the Kaiwaka/ Mangawhai area most of my life.
I have driven past this Location hundreds, if not thousands of times and have never payed attention to this plaque.
Thanks you heaps for this cache!

Today I went caching before, during and after the Mangawhai Walking Weekend. This was a lovely trail for that challenge: #18/20 tftc! Prickly weeds protected this soggy log.
I think geocaching is great. It takes you to places you've never been such as this plaque. It teaches you facts along the way and you can learn to solve all kinds of puzzles if you're interested. An easy find. Thanks for bringing me here
I've had my eye on this little bit of history for a while, and today we stopped at Kaiwaka for lunch on the way up to Whangarei, so I suggested we take a detour to check it out. Thanks!
I was staying in Pahi with the Jags and Aiden29 for Easter so plans were made to collect as many caches as we could while we were up north. Day 2 of our caching weekend and this was the first of the day and a nice quick find
Headed up North with Jag50 and Merlot58 to stay in Pahi for the long weekend. We were on our way out to Mangawhai and stopped at this one on the way.
Thanks nodo ! This one has been here quite a while....interesting to have this monument at the roadside !
A quick detour on my way homeward to look for my one cache for the day. This is a place I have only ever passed by a couple of times before, despite living in Northland for over half a century, and I have certainly never stopped here.
An interesting plaque and memorial spot. Cache was a quick find in the most logical place, so was able to sign log and return without any passing muggles noticing and then was soon on my way back out to the main road, to carry on. TFTC

At the farm for the weekend so was able to check after 2 DNF and confirm it is missing. Replaced with new container and log so all good to go.
Looked in all the obvious places and then in the less obvious and then in the ridiculous and couldn't find it. We did get a wee history lesson, so that's good!
Found it, log is beginning to get a bit damp, if someone could bring a ziplock bag next time they go looking that would be great. TFTC.
Never would have noticed this if it wasn't for caching. It might be Hongi's last stand but it won't be my last cache today.
Heading home from a long weekend this was available as a quick stop and grab. At last a location where there is justification to stop and look at something and not appear to be doing something devious.
On my way from Kaiwaka to Mangawhai I realized that there were two nice caches quite along the road. And of cource I had to visit them. First I stopped at the road and went the few metres up the hill to the small cementary. Poor little children and poor parents! Life isn't fair sometimes. But I spotted the box immediatly. Afterwards I moved a few hundret meters foward and also found the Cache at the salll memorial stone.
Thank you for showing me this nice little places and greetings from Germany.

Was going a bit stir crazy all closed up in the bach, so ignored the pouring rain and jumped in the car for a quick caching trip. Pulled over here to check if I was getting close. Ooh, perfect. Right there!!! Quick grab and a photo of the plaque to show off to the family that think my caching is a waste of time & effort! Well, THEY didn't know about Hongi's last stand and now I do! Thanks for the historical cache & the one that gets me my 2016 souvenir.
Traveling from Mangawhai to Auckland and decided to go the long way round to pick up a few caches. Nice easy find once GZ reached. TFTC.
No problem with parking. Wait! Here comes a car down the drive, so I had to move my car so they could get out. After it quieted down, it still took me a few tries to find the hiding place. TFTC.
Just one cache today as we passed by on a mission. Hard not to be muggled by passing traffic. TFTC
A massive day ahead... Today's adventure requires 50 caches with at least a kilometre of separation. It's also a Dot Day for me... And we are interested in finding any caches that were published within a week of today... No problem! Out with Gap (of Fap and Gap)... We have a planned route that will take us as far north as Waipu (Northland).
I was away with the fairies and thinking about other things... And we drove well past. Gap had to swing around... Not many places at ground zone for this. Even in the dark, we could see where to search for a quick find. Besides the monument, we didn't see much else here which is a shame. This is number 50 and the last cache for this particular challenge. TFTC.

Frost at home this morning and 2 degrees and today is going to be a biggie for us. Planned to attempt our challenge of 50 caches a kilometre or more apart, problem is we have almost cleaned out all caches within 100km's of home so arranged with Hemi (Squirrel Nutcase) to pick up at 6am and head north. For some reason I was up at 3.15am, so this just added more time to my day. Caching was a little sparse until we got to about Silverdale. State Highway 1 was very busy and with caches on both sides of road, watchful eyes were very important.
7.10pm - Drove right past this one. Been a big day so far and we still had to get back to Rotorua, Navigator I think had gone to sleep. Back tracked a few hundred metres and our #50 in one day completed. Now it's time to head home. SLTFTC

Out here for the Heads to Hub fun run. Thought we'd get a few caches nearby. TFTC
Tucked ourselves off the road, as it was quite busy with returning holiday makers. Cache easy to find. Plaque an interesting read. Thanks for the cache and the history lesson.
A quick wander around Mangawhai today with Barney. This was a nice quick find.
Find #1056. Thank you very much for the cache. 8/11/2014 17:28

Its been many years since we have come down this road, and again another place that we missed in the drive by. Thanks for the hide, a little tricky as the GPS bounced about, but looked again at a possible hide, and the cache was found.
Found it, thanks for the cache

Been out driving around and enjoying the view, Wanted to stop and read the sign. TFTC
Nice and easy to find and I finally got to read what was on the plaque after always meaning to stop but never actually stopping.
Today we headed from Mangawhai Heads to Kaiwaka finding caches along the way. We enjoyed our drive around the lush green countryside.
Todays trip was with a new geocacher TuiMarie.
Thanks for placing this cache nodo

Thanks for the opportunity to stop and read the plaque. You are right that nobody normally would if it wasn't for the cache.
Many thanks

#921 Backed onto the concrete for quick getaway after finding this one quickly. Interesting spot- thanks for pointing it out to me!
During the last weeks, well months, I had the luck to find a lot of geocaches in NZ. I'm really sorry that I can't remember everyone and have to write a log like this. But after all I found this country to be a beautiful place (not only for cachers!)
TFTC!

Another quick stop and find in the dark with slieschke as we headed home from a quick jaunt up to the Brynderwyns and back. Quickly found in the obvious spot so we didn't need to be parked in a slightly dodgy spot too long (didn't notice the bit about parking on the concrete until afterwards - doh!). TFTC!!!
Another quick find caching with funkymunkyzone tonight. Thankfully no one came along the road as we grabbed this else they would have been high beamed
Thanks!
Thanks!
Quick find here before heading back to Auckland from our week up North. Ended up parking a little more safely further up the road and walking back. TFTC!
Good find Read plaque
Definitely a suspicious person hot on our tail! Onward.....quickly! Waved at & was acknowledged!

heading around mopping up some caches a welcome break from the all to known state highway one... wondering why on earth the off line list on my smart phone sometimes lets me log it as a found sometimes only as a note? any clues ? .
The monument could do with a refurbishment considering its historical significance. Thanks for drawing us into this area.
Found orginally as part of phasevisitor team, now created own account, re-logging as yorkshirekiwi83.
A quick find in the rain today, while on my way north for a break. TFTC!

Headed away for the weekend to Waipu and decided to collect a few caches along the way.

5579. Left Whangarei to do a few caches on the way back south. This was number 28 of the day. A quick and easy find. Had decided not to do any more caches for the day as it was cold, wet, almost dark and we had no accommodation nearby - but had to do this one since it belonged to Nodo!!! Now off to Orewa to book into a motel we have stayed at before with Nodo, and have a roast pork dinner we have had before with Nodo!!! Thanks for the cache. Rodney and Iris.
