Logs
We are getting toward the end of our little holiday in the Nelson Bay region and today, we headed out this way for a specific challenge cache and any other caches which would help us achieve our other various geocaching goals. We had an enjoyable time exploring Mount Sugarloaf and had no difficulty in locating the cache. With our name in the log book, we continued along the tracks and back to the car.

Found the new log book placed by JordsAU at the end of a fabulous Cachetours event around the Hunter Valley. Great views at sunset!

log is a soaking mess. Despite needs maintenance from previous finders, I don't think CO is going to maintain
Found at 5:15pm with Calypso62. We managed to locate the cache within a couple of minutes after a challenging stroll up the steep hill. It's a shame the cache was in a sad state as this is such a beautiful lookout. Would love for the cache to be repaired for future finders or at least archived so it can potentially be replaced with a new one.
We were unable to sign log.

Took a while to find it but eventually did
This is the first one I've ever found.

Log was pretty damp, still managed to put the John Quincy on it though. Great spot, noticed that the remote locking doesn't work when parked near the smaller tower. Lots of RF TFTC
Log was wet and cache is missing, needs some maintenance. Lovely view though, a great place for a cache. TFTC.
We made the find but the container is missing (only the log inside a ziplock bag was present). Could the Cache Owner please replace the container so the cache is safe and secure for future hunters to find.
GC22HT3 Sugarloaf summit scene
Geocache: # 1,139.
Found on: Sunday, 19th January 2014 at 7:03 PM.
Current streak: # 173 days.
Today's finds: 12 of 13.
Caching party: morry9 & AlphaDeltaIndigo.
Morry9, AlphaDeltaIndigo and I had been planning our trip up to Newcastle to attend the ‘Onya Bike at the Fernleigh Track & Glenrock Conservation Area. The plan of attack today included a number of Old School caches and hides that would help fill in some blanks in our Difficulty / Terrain matrix. It was a relatively early morning start and we hit the road travelling north up the old F3 highway. We managed to bag 13 caches in total, including 3 Old School and another 3 difficulty / terrain caches! The finds for the day included Aero-Vale, FREEWAY #4, ‘Onya Bike (Event Cache), Fernleigh Loop Fire Trail, High Voltage Rock & Roll, Berocca Bomber 1, Guns Nano’s and a little fun, Tentacle Tree, Off the Bypass, Hunter Valley Vista, Sugar Sugar, Sugarloaf summit scene and #18 The Thin Black Line. Another great summer road trip and big day out!
We left the Newcastle area and headed over towards the Hunter Valley. It was a nice drive up the hill to reach the car park below the lookout on Mount Sugarloaf. We parked the car there and entered the bush land by foot to tackle Hunter Valley Vista and Sugar Sugar. What a beautiful area!! After that we decided to scale the mountain to the top of the lookout and search for Sugarloaf summit scene. Once at Ground Zero, it took us a few minutes of searching around but we eventually made the find but the container is missing (only the log inside a ziplock bag was present). We soon had the Cache In Hand though and performed the signing duties before returning the cache to its original hiding location. Signed Log, Took Nothing Left Nothing. Thanks For The Cache wobblywallabies.
Could the Cache Owner please replace the container so the cache is safe and secure for future hunters to find.

Found on Sunday, 19th January 2014 after the Newcastle event: "Onya Bike"
(Log may be signed as ADI, short for AlphaDeltaIndigo)
GC Buddy for the cache: "JordsAu & Morry9
Cache condition: Missing
Log condition: Intact
After the bush bashing to get to SugarSugar cache, I hoped that this trek was easier. But my hopes were nowhere close to reality. I realized on my way to this cache that I am super unfit. Mozzies followed me all the way till the cache. The hike was tiring, but the view from the cache was beautiful !
Unfortunately, the cache seems to be missing but we did find a logbook! #SurpriseMoment. So we signed the log and hid it with some camo.
CO intervention needed.
Thank you for the cache. The view was beautiful and memorable!
Hopefully JordsAu will post photos with his log.

After the HAVOC Xmas party I teamed up with GeoIan+Family to attack a few caches and this was one of them.
Taking the long way around, well sorta, thanks GeoIan lol, we finally arrived at the summit. And a perfect GZ produced the hidden goods, although no magnet was present, thus cache was be lost at anytime. No log book was also present so we left a page with our logs.
With the signing done we were now over run with foreign muggles stopping us from returning the cache to its hide.
It was getting cold up here and time was a wasting, so we crept in closer to the well planted foreigners and tried to cramp them out, just 1 left... so I passed the cache to dirtsquirter and created a diversion by rummaging past and straight through the muggles.
Cache hiding complete, we headed down to the cars. I was off home and it was time for GeoIan to get the BBQ going at the nearby facilities.

Out caching with Doc-Who after the Havoc xmas party. Nice to have someone else to talk to whilst walking around caching. This was our third cache for the day, and after I led the party right around the mountain, we finally found a way up to the summit. What a climb. Must be the thin air up here. Anyway we caught up with Doc and the kids who had GZ set, but cache was proving difficult. Doc had had a good look / feel around, then Haydos101 lets out a OMG and walks over and pulls out a baggie with log in it. No magnet though. We sign then some muggles turn up, and take up residence. Maybe they were waiting for Sunset, which was bout 2 hours away. Anyway, great diversion set up by Doc, Haydos101 tucks the baggie back where we found it and we get out of there. The trees are certainly growing up, spoiling a lot of the views from this well constructed lookout. TFTC. As reported earlier, needs maintenance.
Went with GeoIan, family and Doc-Who for a walk to the Summit. Shame the trees have taken some of the view away, but still a nice spot. A group of muggles had us up their longer than wanting to be as other caching to be done, but got away eventually - thanks to the quick thinking of Doc-Who, Haydos101 and Dirtsquirter! TFTC. Needs some maintenance.
nice hide but no tin WHAT makes no sense, when we put the cache back a group of people arrived and started talking so we waited and waited, but the people still did not move so me haydos101 and doc-who when to put the cache doc-who pasted it to haydos101 and he put in safely [:D}
Log is soaked, and there was no tin, just a plastic bag. Needs replacing. See photo of soggy log.
Found no tin, but sodden log and bag. Both need replacing. Feel better for the 'stroll' LOL
Orienteering in the area. Lots of people as it was fathers day. trying to remain inconspicuous and find it did not work will have to return.
Awesome little spot. Came up here with nothing to do at home. The Mazda made it as far as we could go then we walked up and around. Oh the places Geocaching takes you! Searched everywhere for ages until finally i felt the ziplock bag. This cache is in desperate need of maintaince/replacement. TFTC
Couldn't find it anywhere up here, could have possibly been removed or could have disappeared with the heavy winds lately..
Came here to watch the sunrise and saw there was a cache here
Looks like its seen better days

Ok so I eventually found it but in a poor condition. Anyone planning to find this one please bring a replacement container
A nice morning track climb, then a hunt around until we found the 'temporary' cache. Could do with something a bit more permanent.

Was sitting at home wondering what to do on a cold wet Sunday and what better than a couple of caches so it was off to Mt Sugarloaf to get the ones there.
After finding Sugar Sugar and Hunter Valley Vista I turned up hill and went to find this one. Upon reaching the summit there was 2 muggles right near gz so just waited them out then decided to read some previous logs. This was when I realised there is a problem with this cache.
After the muggles left I did a bit of searching and found the gz but no cache after a few more minutes the plastic bag and foil log was found and signed.
Thanks to wobblywallabies for this cache.

the last cache of the day, after stopping for a quick cuppa, possum Jnr and I commenced the trek up to this one. Unfortunately Mother nature decided that rain was a good idea today so the climb was a little damp.
Jnr loved the late evening views over the city, whilst I recovered the cache.
I went through my cache bag for a suitable container however I could not find one that would fit the hide, so instead replaced the makeshift log with some paper.

DNF doesn't mean its not tthere. I climbed up the hill with a bunch of Cubs, who wern't patient enough to hang around long enough to find it. Still a pretty good loctaion with great views.
If ever I have found a cache that needs maintenance, this would be it.
I have DNFd this one in the path, but my GPS settled heaps better today, and after reading the previous logs, I had found the ziplock bag with a foil muesli bar wrapper in it for a log sheet.
The kids had a great time 'on top of the mountain'
Thanks for bringing me up here.

pprass has said it all. After searching down below for ages, I ended up climbing down and out through the cliffs below to try and find this cache.

Found at 10:38 AM on our "Get to 9,999 cache finds before the Myriads and Milestones event on 21 April" with Browngang. This was a GAFF? find.
A lovely [xx(] walk up to the summit and we were rewarded with wonderful views. We then started looking and after a while were convinced the we had found the cache location , but with nothing there. So we then called TeamSenz the previous finder who confirmed that indeed the cache was in that spot. So rather than leave empty handed, we scavenged a clip lock bag and a piece of wrapping paper and fashioned a log out of it and jammed it under the piece of tin. So if the next cacher could please come prepared with a proper magnetic container and a log book please.
Thanks wobblywallabies.

p.s dont forget a pen like we did!

The walk ruined me but worth it for the view. Pretty clever hiding. Found with Jordan
Had geotoddler duties today and thought that a nice drive to sugarloaf was in order. A short walk and many are we there yets later, we were at the top. Great hide that had me scratching my head for a while. Gets a favourite for the location.
A short steep walk up the path and stairs to a great view of the coast and surrounds. Well worth the climb. Thank you for the cache.
Found at 11.00am on a day around Newcastle along with No1 son. After visiting his work place and many other intersting places in and around Newcastle this was our last stop for the day. Made the climb and although we couldn't get a GZ reading with the help of the clue found the only logical spot and sure enough Mr80 put his hand on it and retrieved the hide. TFTC and bringing us to the top.
Great find, had to use camera technology to check where to reach!!
TFTC great views haven't been up here for a long time.

Bit of a climb to get up to GZ, for us oldies. Found GZ but couldn't put hand on cache. Read previous logs and thought it gone. Decided to attack from another direction and there it was, right where it should be, a shiney new container, log and all. FTS new log. Thanks Wobblywallabies

Took details of this cache prior the other 'did not find's...BUT what a great experience all the same.
My colour choice of a top caused the Blue Triangle butterflies to play around me for the near hour we were up at the summit searching for the missing cache. Flying by me in 2's and 3's then taking off to come back again and again, sometimes landing on my hair or back. Dont know enough about them to now what they were doing but it was a one of many special moments my partner and I shared that day. What a good Good Friday!

We are classing this as a find even though we can't reach it. The cache has fallen below the fence and is not easily accessible. Too many aged muggles to do anything about today but maybe the next person could put it back in its proper location
Found this one very easily however it had fallen to the lower levels as it was quiet up there we braved the climb down to retrieve the cach only to discover that it was very damaged waterlogged log and missing both magnets managed to eventually climb back up in time to watch the sunset what a great place to be for that!!
Could not avoid the temptation of heading up here on such a beautiful afternoon again.
I was not disappointed by the view - brilliant. Pity that the cache is in such poor condition. It is literally hanging by a thread and needs attention.
A wonderful caching experience.

After waiting for some muggles to depart, the cache was promptly in our possession. As per previous log, the cache is running a temporary log and has lost one of it's magnets. Could probably do with some TLC. TFTC
I have been going to do this for some time now and today it was quite so a trip up sugarloaf was in order. The climb to the top was harder than i rembember but I made it and soon spotted the cache.
Retrieved and found only plain piece of paper for the log and one magnet missing so it needs some tlc.
TFTC and a great view from the top made it all worth while.

Found the empty cache container on the walk up, so improvised a log and replaced all as it should be. Container will need maintenance though as is only half as good as it used to be.

Contents of container below look out. No container found. Fear it has been muggled or fallen off its magnetic ledge.
Was hoping to see some good views however the drizzle started and the mist or clouds rolled in.
After teh climb to the top dound the contents down below the look out, well Morky70's card for a 400th find and a plastic clip lock bag. Popped over the fence to see if I could find the container as I could see where it was hidden. Alas no container. Will post a needs mainteance log.

Fantastic 360 degree views. Accurate description of the care needed on retrieval
What a nice spot early on a clear morning. Took a while but found the cache. left a poker chip
Took a while and the hint only put us off. ONce the correct co-ordinates were in the gps we had it within seconds. Grabbed by geo-girl while geo-dad was putting down his gear to have a look at GZ. TFTC.
Reperio at 2125. After stopping off for an FTF nearby, we decided to head up and grab this one on our way back past as we hadn't seen the lights of Newcastle yet. Once at the top, the cache didn't take too long to locate, and then we quickly enjoyed the views before heading back down again. Great to see this one back in action again, and hopefully it stays put this time.

Took advantage of a perfect morning to grab some caches around Mt sugarloaf....
Well this was heart attack material getting to this on ,but once at GZ the cache was found after a few minutes of searching and with the help of the hint.
Just hope this one hangs in there as the magnets don,t seem to be very stong.

OK, yes this cache was muggled, but it's all good now.
The cache has moved to a new location on the summit and the new co-ords are :
S 32° 53.464`
E 151° 32.287
Have fun, and try not to blow up on the short sharp climb to the summit
Found a nice place to hide a micro that matches the description in the hint, but alas it was empty.
Mt Sugarloaf cache hunt #1
Given previous logs and my unsuccessful search, I strongly suspect this cache has been muggled. There are limited options for hides up here so woul request the CO to check it out. Fantastic views frim up here and I was able to log a few GCA trigs so not a wasted trip at all.

No luck here today, and given the limited places to hide a cache here, I sense that it's probably gone. Still, if you're going to DNF a cache, this is a good spot to do it in. Beautiful spot and views.
Gratias.

No cache to be found, but enjoyed the views from the lookout.
Webguy wouldn't let me bring the tower home - something about not fitting on the roof bars.

Had a good look for quite a while with a couple of other experienced cachers but came up with nothing unfortunately. Oh well, it's a great spot and as we couldn't find the cache we decided to give the latest "planking" craze a go instead! See pic.
Nope, nuffin, nadda, niet!!
Had a nice lie down on something big black and round though so at least that....

We hiked up to the summit after successfully finding "Hunter Valley Vista" and enjoying the view from a lower vantage point. We spent quite a bit of time on the top, recovering from the climb and rummaging from the cache (in between looking innocent when other bods staggered up)! Spotted a diamond python but no cache - happy to return another time and try again.
