THE FLAMING ACES

This geocache was brought to my attention as being in need of an owner maintenance visit. The cache owner needs to check on this cache ASAP and either replace it or archive it, after picking up any geo-litter. See the [maintenance section of the Geocache Listing Requirements/Guidelines](http://www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines.aspx#listingmaintenance).

I've added this cache to my watchlist, and I will check back in four weeks to be sure that the maintenance has been done. In the meantime, I have temporarily disabled this listing. When the maintenance is completed, the owner can enable the listing by clicking on the link below the cache name to return it to active status.

Whatever your intentions, please **post a note** here on the cache page (not email) to let us know that you are still active and maintaining the cache.

If you plan on repairing this cache, please log a note to the cache (not email) within the next 30 days so I don't archive the listing for non-communication.

Thought i would give it a crack, but no luck. Needs archiving. A lot of DNF,s and an inactive CO. Already has 3/5 caches archived.

I searched for a looonnnggg time for this one without success. Wondering if it remains accessible given activity over the past two years?

14-Nov-20
Looked in all possible places could not find. With all the DNFs I assume it’s not there and CO is not active.

My family and I travelled down from Brisbane to Vincentia and Canberra to spend the Christmas/New Year period with relatives. Yesterday my fellow geocaching team members from The Bromance (Swellerfungus, Crookedpete and JezNDez) arrived in Sydney to join me for a planned hike in Kosciusko National Park (ultimately cancelled due to closures by bush fires). The plan was to head to Canberra after collecting them from the airport but the smoke was so bad in Canberra that we decided to spend a few days caching in Sydney to see if conditions improved. Sadly they didn't and the National Park was closed so it was time to turn tail and slowly head for home.

After a visit to Fingal Island earlier in the morning we took a short detour before joining the Pacific Highway to hunt a few more caches including this one. Despite a good long look we failed to find this one.

25-Nov-19
Found 1:08 pm. Couldn’t find it. Since I have the flu and after some searching trying to apply hint and description I had enough. Hopefully it hasn’t fallen completely out of view as others have had issues with. Next time if I am ever in this part of the woods I will have to look again. We had been glamping in Karuah with friends and on the way home had to find some caches but before heading home visit Nelson Bay.

We're camping at some quiet locations and great little towns that should lead us to the Mega at Queanbeyan.

Claiming a find but the container has slipped too far in to grab. Have photo if needed.

Thanks for placing this cache THE FLAMING ACES

OCW PelDroedGwin

Following the morning event for the GCNSW expedition, stopping off to target dates for my Jasmer grid and the missing D/T combinations.

Met up with Brewmaker, EverestHigh and MaxAdventurer as we headed in convoy.

Excited to stop here as I love the D5 challenge.

We got lucky with a systematic approach and I spotted the clever little thing within a few minutes

I had luck on my side today Smile parking was harder than finding the cache (less than a minute KingT said seen? and there it was), I even brought snacks because of the difficulty and DNF’s. TFTC, FP, log almost full

We turned up expecting to be here for quite a while and we were sure that we knew what we were looking for. What we found was very different and was thankfully spotted in under a minute Smile

For the end of 2018, I'm embarking on a road trip with my plus one, Grace. We're gone from 22 to 29 December, covering 2500km between Brisbane, Tenterfield, Tamworth, Katoomba, Newcastle, Port Macquarie, Grafton and back again. I had carefully planned out a select few geocaches which resulted in 24 finds for the trip. This is day six so we're leaving Morisset and heading north through Raymond Terrace which means we can swing by this one en route before heading into the Dungog Valley.

This geocache ticks a D/T box for me, so I was extra keen for it. Apparently the 5/2.5 box is a rare beast closer to home! However I really had no idea what to expect. But I felt it likely it might take a lot of time, which was in relatively short supply on today's leg of the trip. But I was willing to have a go and see what we could achieve.

Good for us, it was only a short detour. Thought the turn-off promised some crap waiting times for the merge to head north again. And we'd later find out the day would be plagued by slow traffic heading north. But for now the podcast is pumping and we're following the GPSr to the closest on-road access. And when we got there, it was good. Just a short walk to a grassy road that's heading in the right direction.

Maybe the best part of the walk was that it must've been real wet here lately. But today the ground is dry. Crunchy dry. Like in all the low spots is that cracked, crunchy mud flakes. We had much fun crunching our way to the cage-y, rocky GZ. I sussed out the description and matched it to the location. A little bit of a brief to myself and Grace and I decided to go for a methodical hunt - it's worked for me in the past.

I forget how many similar locations I've found myself in looking for a tiny geocache container. Maybe I have an eye for it now, maybe I got lucky but it was genuinely under two minutes between us starting to look and me looking in the exact right place and spotting the geocache. Though, I wasn't sure at first. Inside it had a logbook, and it matched the description. Excellent! A very happy geocacher here now! I added my name to the logbook and replaced as found. Now back to the car, the podcast and the traffic. Thanks for this geocache, THE FLAMING ACES Smile

Found with ZQX and some helpers. Hundreds of hiding spots here!

13-Jul-18
Approaching GZ my heart sank. I knew what I was in for, as I had DNFed (three times), then eventually found a cache hidden just like this a few years ago. My problem today was that the family was in the car, hoping for me to get the cache quickly, so that we could resume our road trip. Hmmm. How to manage this situation? Light bulb! I dragooned the family into helping me. Now, with many sets of eyes, the task was not so daunting. One kid, having sized up the area, expressed an idea and I listened. It turned out to be an excellent, totally correct, idea. Shortly afterwards I had CIH. Very happy to make the find in less than 30 minutes of searching.
TFTC!

Pure Evil ;-; found after 10 minutes of searching by chance. Great hiding spot indeed.

A blanket of fog delayed my flight back to Brisbane this morning, so I had time to swing via Medowie and tick off the last two non-smileys. I attempted to approach this one via two different paths, before finding the simplest and hopefully the driest. Wink

The way in was muddy and wet from some showers and overnight dew, so I was zigzagging to avoid slippery parts as I was not really dressed for the terrain... Surprised I made it to GZ, and got stuck into hunt. Fortunately, I managed to spot the sneaky little container quite quickly, then retrieved to etch my name in the log. Everything was replaced where I found it, then I hit the return track and made my way to the airport, where I patiently waited for the flight.

Cheers Flaming Aces.

Staying in the area, on our way north, thought we would have a look at this one. Luck was on our side today, Wazza9 very quickly found the container. Signed log and replaced, thanks to THE FLAMMING ACES.

TFTC,
How lucky were we. Previous caches like this have resulted in us walking away and logging DNF,s aftre some times hours of looking.
Today we started looking and after moving a couple of elements I heard something. Oh No. I had dislodged it and it was falling deep into the maze. PANIC and a racing heart and the sound stopped. I figure I knew where it stoped but how would I get it. Moved an element and I could see it just out of reach. I went for a walk and found some tools to help me recover it.
For me it was great to have the log signed in 10 minutes and the cache back in place. My first for this D/T rating.
Visited trackables and added a favourite.

So awesome that we got this cache this is such a rare DT - took us some time to find this one but well worth it in the end - good to see that the container has lasted so long - TFTC THE FLAMING ACES, I really enjoyed it!

28-Apr-18
LouLou0212 and myself headed here this morning, not really thinking we would find anything. But... we did! It took about 20mins, but using the clues provided in the description and hint, we found the cache. I was pleased as this was a traditional dt I needed to qualify for a challenge cache. The container has lasted well over the years, and the log is still dry! The only issue - how to get the prickles out of my clothing! TFTC THE FLAMING ACES

We NEVER find caches like this, so yay - our first D5!! Thanks!

Hey everyone. My name is jake keevers. I'm asking if someone who has found this cache could stalk me on Facebook and message me. My profile pic is looking over the handle bars of a trail bike.

The reason I'm asking is me and my father were the original flaming aces who made this cache years ago. I tried to find it this evening with no luck haha. After being out of the game for many years. My partner and I are picking up a few of the old caches and keeping them serviced. Any help would be great. Cheers everyone.

Last time I tackled this one was back in March 2011. So was pleasing to sign the log after ONLY 20 Mins.
So thanks to the Flaming Aces for making this a FLAMING hard cache to find.!!

Out with kingfisher_au while finding caches in the area, and came across this cache that we had heard of but couldn't exactly remember where is was located -we didn't look at the difficulty rating until we saw the rocks. A lot of rock movements and we spotted the cache but when trying to retrieve it , it fell deeper and required a few tools from the car to retrieve but we made it in the end. Thanks for the cache and for bringing us here.

This cache has been on my to do list for a while, and with a bit of time on my hands waiting for a friend to fly in, this one was gonna be a good time waster haha. Drove in, and started looking, with some cache instincts found the cache within about 5 minutes. Thanks!

Today is the fourth day of our little holiday in Nelson Bay. We decided to take a drive along Bucketts Way for something different and to find a few specific caches when we noticed this one pop up on our GPS as we returning to our accommodation.

We realised this was going to be a challenging cache to find but decided to take our chances anyway. After about 30 minutes of searching though, and with the light fading, we ended up resorting to the PAF option. We finally laid our hands on the cache and with our name added to the log book, we continued on our way.

Thank you THE FLAMING ACES for having placed the cache and maintaining it for everyone to enjoy Cool

Out caching with pprass ( who already found this cache a while back ) on our way for a week of caching around Mudgee.

Well third attempt at this one- I am determined to find it-and I even had another set of eyes to help me with this one ( they forgot where it was hidden ha!). spent about 30mins looking every where- i just had to get in touch with the last finder for a heads up cause by this point i was getting annoyed haha! with a quick reply and confirmed that we were searching in the correct area. hooray finally there it was all tucked away in a secured spot- gosh such a relief- this will be the last time i visit this place.

Thanks for the cache THE FLAMING ACES

Today I am driving from Wauchope to near Morisset. Cool
But there are a couple of caches I want to find on the way. Big Grin
This one fills a specific D/T grid spot for me so was a MUST find. Razz
An hour later and still nothing. Twisted
I saw a friends had found this one so a few PAF's messages went out. Red Face
I think each had tried to forget this one but between a few comments I eventually manged to locate this cache. [^] [^] WHAT A MISSION. Surprised
The cache is dry and in good condition. Cool
Now to go tend to the bleeding knuckles from reaching through the mess so many times. Razz
Thanks for the cache.

We had travelled up from Sydney to Port Stephens, camping at the Lemon Tree Passage Big4 Koala Shores caravan park, for our annual summer holiday. But now, after eight fun filled days of swimming, bushwalking and caching, we are finally on our way back to Sydney. But the caching frenzy isn't quite over yet, with stops at Medowie and Raymond Terrace planned for the way home.

Stopped off for a quick look, but didn't have time for a good search. As it's a D5 it's probably very well hidden and would require the time for a proper search. TFTH anyway.

No good today, I was limited to time ( 15mins ) before I had to pick my sister up from airport but I'll be attempting this one again on Monday!

We've spent so much time here lately this has almost become our second home. A previous log mentioned it was like searching for a needle in a haystack. . . . . at least a needle has a way of letting itself be known! No arguments about the D5 rating from us, it's a devilish hide. Farewell LOCKED AND CAGED, we're going back to our real home now! TFTC THE FLAMING ACES.

Found with TOMBI!. Not what I expected, but nice dry log. TFTC

12-Jul-15
Found with BillHill531 on an afternoon caching run out this way. I had a look for this in July 2014 and I was initially worried it had been washed away as a lot of the rocks have been moved since then. It seemed like we would not find it again, but after only ten minutes I spotted something that was not a rock and then I dropped it. I had some trouble getting it out, but got there eventually. It was nicely made and still dry, so well done. Then I put it back and we headed home.
Thanks for the super hard cache (I had been having nightmares about it since my DNF, so should be better now)!

Second attempt in two days to find this one, but only new to this. ... what are we missing!?!? We'll be back! Love a good challenge Wink

Up in the area on holidays with a list of caches we wanted to attempt to help with our DT grid. This one being high on the list due to its rate rating.
With Tack123 we had 3 sets of eyes searching for at least 45 minutes until the other Triton finally called out the magic words! Wow that was certainly a difficulty of 5 , maybe even a 10! Very sneaky!
Thanks THE FLAMING ACES for the hunt.

15-Apr-15
Woohoo. Thank goodness for the clue! What a cheeky and well hidden micro! So glad we found it and can cross this hole off our DT grid. Geowife was a wonderful assistant as her small hands were helpful in retrieving it. Also worth noting the log is still clean and dry. TNLN. TFTC.

3 men in a car - might try to sell the movie rights of this weekend. 3 day blinder from Brisbane through the Hunter to Sydney, now our last day and we have to get home tonight. It's after lunchtime and we've made it to Newcastle (Medowie) - we are at least on our way. Yep, life doesn't get better than this Cool (for reference left home 1am Friday morning, got back home nearly 1am Monday morning and went to work that day - awesome[xx(]).

Crew153 noted this one as we were driving that might tick a D/T box for him - fair enough (like we needed much excuse to hunt for a cache), and with the Canyonero (Canyonero) finely attuned to the need we pulled up next ish to the GZ and set about a search. Took a bit. It's in the obvious spot, but not an obvious hide. Coords were pointing a few metres away for us, but you know where it's going to be. Took us a bit, but we finally noticed it, and with a small amount of fat fingers at work retrieved and logged the blighter. Toughy, would hate to try it at night. Sheesh!

T5+ for getting the Pajero out again, a 2WD would've been very unhappy doing that, but the mighty Paj sorted it out OK and left just enough ground covering for the residents to use later.[:o)]

Thanks for placing this cache, THE FLAMING ACES. Found in good condition.

Having the Pajero, Pprime (P`), Crew 153, and I motored up most of the way toward GZ. We stopped at the last 100m. No need to keep going through the worst of the mud.

Mr Crew 153 was very keen to get this cache as it ticked a box in his D/T grid. We all fossicked around GZ for about 30 minutes before I finally spotted the beast. The co-ords seemed somewhat out for me today. But hey.. it's a D5 cache.. sort it out Razz

The cache was in excellent condition We very happy to have this one crossed off. We were also glad we had the 4WD when it came to getting out of the place Razz

27-Jul-14
On a 3 day caching road trip from Brisbane with Pprime and Fangsoki trying to find a few old caches and we were heading home and I remembered that this one would fill a hole in my D/Tchart which I could not fill back home so we made what was intended to be a quick detour to find it.

The road in was full of deep potholes full of water so we left the car and jumped the puddles the remaining distance to the search area. A collective grown went up when we saw where we had to search.

We set to the task and search everywhere again and again and again until finally the sneaky blighter was uncovered. It was in one of the spots which we had searched numerous times but this time it was uncovered.

A quick sign of the log and a collective sigh before we headed back to the car and the long drive back to Brisbane.
