Did a bit of maintenance. All good now.

26-May-24
WP: DR2 - Drifters is somewhat stuck at the moment. I think it can be extracted with enough enthusiasm, or a tool, but it is pretty firmly in place. I will aim to do a bit of adjustment to it next weekend.

05-Dec-23
Im back visiting from Brisbane and had made a plan to do some geocaching this morning with Jackscruff who suggested this multi. We parked near the oval and made our way to the first waypoint where we spent a long time searching. We both made PAFs with one giving us the final but we really wanted to find the waypoints too. So we headed to the second waypoint. I understood the hint for this one, so got down on hands and knees and after about 5 minutes spotted the cleverly hidden bison - but how to access it? Luckily it was easier from above. In the meantime, my PAF came through with hints for both, though the second was found before I read it. As we had the finals, we wandered along to there, enjoying the birdlife including seeing some needletails whizzing around above us and orchids everywhere. The very well constructed cache was quickly found in great condition for such an oldie. We then headed back to waypoint 1 where we found the item. It was about 9-10m out from my coordinates and Jackscruff was so close at one stage but didnt go far enough. It was easier to find than we expected. Very clever. Deserves a fp. Tftc

A geofriend from Brisbane, kolour contacted me about doing some caching while she was here in Sydney. I suggested this cache as it's a lovely walk along the Lane Cove River and this very old cache had plenty of favourites so 'an oldie and a goodie'.I walked my dog here a few times in the lockdowns and remember this area being under attack during bushfires.Today we started from Mowbray Oval then walked along the river edge and finally up into the bush to WP1. It was tricky and we left empty handed. On the return walk armed with extra information I found I'd had the correct idea about where to look and had only been about a metre away but the co-ords seemed too far out.We found WP2 as a muggle came by, must have thought we were weird being down there.GZ was a quick find compared to the waypoints! All worth a Favourite Point with the cleverly constructed containers and the lovely walk which today not only had the views but lots of bird life and orchids growing everywhere. Also the CO regularly checks the WPs which is great to see!!!TFTC # 5701

Quick check and parts in place

11-Jul-23
Out and about picking up caches along the way. Great winter weather and many great locations.

11-Jul-23
This was quite a challenge and we sorted the waypoints (WP1 not easy to find) the previous afternoon, and back this morning to log the cache.

Others have mentioned the area around GZ is swampy. I thought it quite surreal, and scooted about taking photos. ruzzelz found the cache while I was busy with the pics. Really chuffed with this multi, and locations, river, and the sandstone features closer to WP2.

Dropping off a FAVE

10-Jun-23
Found with Akkatracker. Both WPs were a bit of a struggle but got there eventually. Final is surrounded by a minefield of wet bogs which made the approach even more "fun".

10-Jun-23
Found with Baby J Man...

Wanted to get outside this arvo so took down Sticks & Stones and the nearby "Grumpy" cache (listed on GCA/archived here - strongly recommend).

WP1 was a challenge given the 3D nature of GZ but once I was in the right area actually pretty straightforward... Baby J Man: "I was just looking there"

WP2 seems to be where most get stuck, and interestingly enough it's actually a nicer GZ to search, particularly coupled with the hint we narrowed down roughly where we needed to look. Couldn't get all the pieces of info lining up though, until we managed to find the sneaky bugger (Baby J Man again: "I was looking there").

With clues in hand a bit of algebra took us to GZ. Note for future finders, don't turn off too early or you'll find yourself bogged, it's actually a bit easier if you overshoot. Lucky GZ isn't too challenging to search around and the nicely camod cache was found.

A few earthworms made themselves at home in the clips, cache itself a little dirty but no evidence of water ingress.

Favourite for the nice waypoints here - not actually challenging areas to search which we feared, this is remarkably accessible and a heap of fun. I think CO may have recommended this one many years ago to myself at an event, glad I finally got round to it.

Thanks pyobeon, will need to find some more of the nearby multis!

16-Apr-23
Found WP1, but no luck on WP2. Will have to try again another time.

23-Feb-23
Got revenge on this one with discobob3 on Monday night and just now realised I forgot to log. Thankyou pobeyon for doing maintenance and a systematic search had us turn up the goods pretty fast. In nov 22 we found the first two waypoints and were impressed with ourselves but failed at the last point, mostly due to fading light and biting mozzies. This time I came armed with lots of repellent. TFTC

21-Feb-23
After finding all the waypoints a few months ago and coming up short on the cache itself, noticing the owner had done maintenance lately, went back with JennyFromTheFarm for another look. Didn't seem as overgrown as last time and much more water today than previously. Cache finally found, though still quite hidden below natural camo, but obvious once we found. Thanks for placing and for this multi.

26-Jan-23
Thinned the natural camo a bit and pulled out the whole thing. Didn’t open it up but it looks fine. So put it back. A bit of asset to see.

26-Jan-23
Easier not asset

04-Dec-22
It is still there but much better hidden than originally. The wet weather seems to have caused the area to be more overgrown. I didn’t remove it to check it fully. Poking a hiking pole into the ground cover at the right place revealed its presence.

26-Nov-22
Well it's a DNF for the CO! I am not going to disable it yet because I wasn't able to do a thorough enough search. The terrain has changed quite a lot and is more heavily vegetated than previously (presumably the wet weather this year). I'll go back shortly suitably attired to mount a thorough search.

16-Nov-22
Out with jennyfromthefarm this evening and found the numbers at the two waypoints. Kidnapped didn't take to long, but drifters we searched to wide to start then Jenny just came across by accident. I did the calculations and headed for what we thought was GZ. Only to realise after searching a while with no likely hiding spots in sight and getting eaten by mossies, that I had miscalculated. Off we tracked back along the path to the new GZ which seemed more likely. An unusual drawing on a leaf nearby made us laugh. Not often you see that in the bush. After a while searching we still had no found anything so gave up for today.

26-Jun-22
A bit of brute force and then some fettling and WO2 is back in action. Checked cache - be warned it is now quite overgrown.

25-Jun-22
As has happened a few times previously in wet weather WP2 has swelled and got jammed. I’ll try to free it in the next week or two.

13-Jun-22
WP1 Kidnapped was found quickly enough, but WP2 Drifter left me scratching my head. I failed to find inspiration from the hint, and left covered in spiderwebs but otherwise without the needed numbers to make it to GZ

03-Sep-21
Remarkably, on closer inpsection, WP2 had been carefully preserved, presumably by whoever did the repair, and was nearby. It is now back in place.

02-Sep-21
Unfortunately a tree fall has taken out WP2. It may take a week or so to reinstate this.

02-Jul-21
We were scrambling around WP1 for the whole time and then gave up as we didn’t find any numbers. We found a weird smashed plate but thought it was rubbish. TFTL

14-Jun-21
Checked cache and waypoints. All good.

Very hard to work out the maths and exactly how to do it. Finally got the coords but no luck finding. Found it too wet. Not sure correct spot .tftc

02-Jun-21
Couldn’t find this one, was leading us off the path where it was too wet to continue.

11-Apr-21
Really struggled to find either of these, ended up calling it a day, such a beautiful walk though! Glad I have seen this side of lane cove!

01-Apr-21
Freed Drifters. All ok now.

22-Mar-21
Drifters seems stuck again - it doesn't like wet weather. I have disabled it for now, and will check / repair in a week or two.

19-Jan-21
WP1 was quickly dealt with but WP2 eluded me today despite an extensive search. It didn't help that GPS was giving me an error somewhere between 28m and 100m!!!

02-Jul-20
Even with a tool it took a lot of effort to get free. But all good to go now.

28-Jun-20
Decided to temporarily disable this. I failed to get out this weekend and fix it. I'll try in the week, or next weekend.

22-Jun-20
Be warned, Drifters seems stuck. There seems to have been a small amount of creep and where it currently is I could not remove it. I have not disabled the cache because I believe it is all in place. I’ll try to free it in the next week or so.

We headed out for our daily exercise to find this cache close to home. after hunting down the waypoints a likely set of numbers was quickly obtained. When we arrived at GZ we started to poke around for a likely hidey hole. After a good 30mins we had nothing.

So I had to resort to PAF and even with their help it took a while to find the little blighter.

Some recon was done yesterday and I;m sure glad I did as a struggled for waypoint 2 and the final. I suspected after the first waypoint it was one of those days that the GPSr and coords did not have good alignment as it was certainly the case so PAF's were greatly appreciated. The final took ages to find and unearth as the area has had a bit of water over it from the recent heavy rains. A nice bit of camo for the final. We completed the signing duties and re hid. TFTC

17-Nov-19
Was out checking on another cache nearby and walked back past WP2. It was missing. A short search showed it displaced by less than a metre, but not hidden just tossed aside. A lucky find I think. WP2 back in place. Not sure if it was muggled, or removed as some fire risk mitigation.

05-Oct-19
Second attempt to solve this cache but no find.
I have previously attempted to contact the CO (months ago) but they are unresponsive.

05-Oct-19
GC hasn't been located since March. Owner does not respond to messages.

05-Oct-19
I'll check it now. (Importunity, sorry about not responding to your message of 31st Aug - I was overseas much of Sept and got back today. I'll get back to you on your query asap.)

05-Oct-19
This geocacher reported that this geocache should be archived. A community volunteer reviewer has been notified.

05-Oct-19
Just checked. WP1, WP2 and cache all good to go. WP1 had suffered serious (~20m) creep and I found it by luck, but it us back in place.

15-Jul-19
Today we were out on the caching trail to find the last of the clues, and to then start collecting some gemstones, for the "Mystery at the Museum" cache challenge. Visited Lane Cove (West & North), then Lindfield, and then finished off with one final cache at Killara. A total of 10 finds for the day.

We hadn't planned on doing this one today but noticed it's WP1 was close to where we parked the geomobile for a nearby solved Puzzle/Mystery cache, so decided to give it a go. Had no trouble finding the info at WP1, then headed off to WP2, which is where things went pear shaped. Spent about 30 minutes searching but failed to find the required info, and with our limited caching time rapidly depleting we had to give it up and return to our original mission of finding the Puzzle cache. TFTH anyway Pyobeon.

#5927

Lunch with my fellow retirees today. Decided just to grab one on the way home, but which one?
Decided to give waypoint two on this one another try. Immediately noticed that there has been some work done, meaning I Gould be able to ignore anything changed. Even so another thirty minutes of searching and I’m still none the wiser.

So decided to finally cave and go for a PAF. Hmmm, I’m sure I’d checked that general area earlier, but spotted nothing. But finally had my second number. Did my calcs and had a location for GZ.

Once there I was still 10 metres short and spotted a location that seemed likely, but found nothing.

The iPhone was changing its mind as I moved, and so I wandered a bit. Then not too far from that first spot I noticed something suspiciously on theme.

Gotcha!
Completed signing duties and replaced, then got out of there before I lost a second litre of blood to the mozzies,

Eight years I came here and was not able to complete this lovely little multi on the river. After seeing some recent logs, I was confident that I could complete the mission.
Armed with confidence I set off this evening and explored the area once again. There was a flotilla of rowers on the river enjoying a balmy evening paddle. AT GZ I circled around and around while battling off the mozzies, until finally I spotted something suspicious.
Thanks for the experience in this serene corner of Sydney Pyobean.

A warm day OCW Oldmorty around the Lane Cove River area and a 3rd return to finish this multi. Found WP1 earlier this year, failed to find WP2 a few weeks back but today we earnt our geocacher badge. As testing as it was, in hindsight a well designed multi with a great camo cache at GZ. FP and TFTC!

03-Dec-18
OCWCmorty8888 who made the bulk of the finds today. We found WP1 last time we were out but couldn't find WP2 information and messaged the owner who subsequently did a check to see if the item wad still in place. It was and today we found it before proceeding to gz where a find was made after a lengyhy search by morty8888. TFTC Pyobeon and worthy of a fav point.

25-Nov-18
Checked WP2 and all ok

05-Nov-18
OCW Oldmorty to find some smileys. We found WP1 no problem but spent an hr looking for WP2. After contacting previous finders, we came to the conclusion this info may be missing.

05-Nov-18
OCW morty8888. Found the numbers at the first wp, however, despite several descriptive hints from previous finders we were unable to find the numbers at wp 2. Perhaps a check might be in order

29-Jul-18
OCW the Bebes, max adventurer, Everest High, Brewmaker. Even thothe Gg I had done this before with he Bebes over 12 months ago still posed a challenge, especially the final as my memory had me a little distance away. Trust the GPS!! Tftc

A great multicache in the bush along Lane Cove River. Worth a favourite point. OCW Brewmaker , MaxAdventurer, PelDroedGwin and The Bebes. TFTC Pyobeon

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but they won't break our desire to finish this off. AT WP1 we got what we needed. Off to WP2 and after a lot of searching (and some hints from previous finder), we realised we should have read the description properly, and eventually had the second clue. A bit of easy algebra equations solved and we had the final coords.

At GZ we spent a long time searching as our GPS went all over the place, until finally one of our group of 5 uncovered the prize. A very sneaky camo, in a very sneaky spot where I had already looked a few minutes earlier but obviously not good enough! So good to finish this one and a well-deserved FP. TFTC

WP2 replaced

15-Apr-18
Alas WP2 is missing. It may be a few weeks until I make a replacement.

21-Oct-17
TFTC another FTF but we found WP2 so we are celebrating after 3 visits to find it - sad I know
The cache defeated us im afraid - will come back again

15-Oct-17
Found waypoint 1 which we enjoyed but this is the second time to WP 2 and after 90 minutes we gave up.
A challenge !

15-Mar-17
I am overjoyed t report I found it!!!

WP1 fell quickly about 1 year ago, it was a sneaky hide but I got lucky. WP2 took much more effort.

I visited this area on four separate occasions, whilst I knew it was going to be a tricky find I really was starting to believe it had gone.

Today armed with some more info from the CO and a previous finder, geohubby and I found it! It was still not easy and took us a few passes to locate it.

After a few attempts we revisited our high school maths and generated co-ords for GZ that looked good.

Once there the iPhone was struggling to zero in on one spot so we split up and searched everything!

Wow, another awesome camo job. Hubby had moved it once before going back for a second look after I mentioned what I had found the other day.

Fav point awarded for sneakiness and great locations !

TFTC

05-Dec-16
After spending some time under the object at WPT2 and coming up with nothing last time, sent the CO a message in the hope a hint would be offered. This confirmed the correct side to look. This was coupled with another hint that confirmed suspicions about the nature of the object in question. So armed with this extra info this afternoon with thunder and lightning overhead wandered back down to have another look. After narrowing down the search area it seems my previous efforts had focused on the wrong spot by about 6m. It's certainly very well disguised.
With the additional information did the maths and was soon at GZ where the final container was found after a brief hunt. Thanks for the efforts ...nice walks and a very tricky hide at WPT2!

19-Nov-16
That was fun. Great WPs and GZ hides.

Out caching with the goeWife this morning. Her favourite types are multis, so this was a relatively close choice. I had found Kidnapped while on a previous mission along these trails, but at that time, I didn't have time to continue. We started with that one so that we could both have the experience of finding it. Wasn't quite in the same spot as I remembered but very similar.

Moved on towards Drifters. geoWife thought it would be a good idea just to get there in a straight line but I convinced her that following the trail was the better option. Once we got there, couldn't believe there was someone right there reading a book. He looked like he was settled in for a while so we just started searching anyway. Before too long, he walked away and we started a more thorough search - seeing that this one had baffled quite a few before us. Figuring out the hint helped as it gave us confidence to narrow our search. Not long after, we had the sneaky thing in our hands and the calculations began.

Not too far away, we were initially baffled as there didn't seem anywhere to hide a small container. Eventually, the iPhones took as closer to a promising area and there we made a quick discovery of an awesome container. I have seen similar but this is by far the best version I've seen.

Nice adventure in a nice area. Challenging waypoints and awesome container = favourite point.

Beaten at Wpt2 again, another day...

12-Jul-16
I can't believe I actually found this one. I came through the area today fully expecting to fail finding the notoriously difficult WP2. The area was quiet so I methodically and carefully looked, paying special attention to the clues. I was so surprised and excited when I actually found it. Its very well hidden. I then realised I'd long since lost WP1's clue and went back to find it. Its been a while since I found it but I'm not 100% sure it was in the same place as last time. For a brief moment I was worried I wouldn't find it. The actual cache was tricky but nothing compared to what I'd been through getting the coordinates. Thanks for the cache. It's been satisfying finally overcoming the challenge.

20-Mar-16
Out with JJCC for a morning cache run.

Parked the car at the Arvo Road entry point. GPSr was floating around a bit at KI1 (Kidnapped) but after about ten minutes we found what we were looking for. Taking note of what was needed we then proceeded to DR2 (Drifters '64). After searching and searching and searching some more at WP2 we ended up calling it a day. Will have to return to this one at a later date.

13-Mar-16
Walked past here today, so checked all parts and how the camo is holding up. All seem fine.

13-Feb-16
It was nice to be able to come back and clear my DNF.

I moved the camo and missed the hide. For some reason I went back letter to put it back and realised what was in my hands!?!

A lovely spot for a walk.

TFTC.

31-Jan-16
I wasn't 100% happy that the camo and waterproofing were working together. However this has been unavailable too long, so I have redeployed it anyway. And I think the camo should be OK in this location even if it doesn't prove as robust as hoped. I plan another attempt in the winter.

I checked WP1 & 2 also and they seem good.

WP1 isn't easy in the wet!

The cache needs to be opened and closed carefully. One part is a tight fit - so lever it out carefully and push it back fully. The outer parts only work one way round but that should be obvious.

29-Jan-16
Made the cache container. Completed the camo. On assembly found it needs a little fettling. Hope to deploy this weekend.

28-Jan-16
Any news?

09-Jan-16
Decided to replace with better camoed cache in same location, rather than move. Construction of new cache progressing, but may take another week or two.

12-Dec-15
Cache has gone. WP1 & 2 ok. Will replace cache in next couple of weeks but need to find a better hide as there is now a trail very close to current spot.

12-Dec-15
See Maint log for reason.

23-Oct-15
I have been advised that a flood has been through the location. I am overseas for a couple of weeks. I will next have a chance to check it mid November.

24-Sep-15
A day out with bikerbuddy.

This was our first and only DNF of the day.

I found WP1 in seconds. Great start!

Eventually we located WP2 after phone-a-friends and over half an hour!!! This heading downhill.

But even worse no cache at GZ after about forty minutes and three phone-a-friends!?!

I shall return.

08-Sep-15
I found WP1 no problems but like every second person who's logged this I got stuck when I got to WP 2. Looked everywhere I could think of, even impractical places full of spider webs. Found a small piece of wood and got really excited only to discover it was nothing. Ah well very much enjoyed the walk around the area.

17-Mar-15
With a milestone coming up I had picked a new D/T cache. But I still need one more first. Had considered a multi near the milestone, but having read the recent logs I wasn't confident I could find it. So decided to grab a traditional first, then the milestone, giving me the opportunity to flounder around on the multi if I had time.
* * * END OF CUT AND PASTE SECTION * * *
After grabbing The Matrix for my milestone I turned my attention to this multi.
I'm two thirds of the way through the CO's nearby Lane Cover River Provides - ie I can't find one waypoint. So why not start another?

A quick find of the first waypoint - first place I looked thanks to excellent coordinates and hint. Then I travelled to the second waypoint...
And I looked... and looked... and looked... and looked.
Had a few ideas but none panned out here, even though I knew what I was up against having deciphered the hint.

So now I have two unfinished Pyobeon multis around here.
Groan!

16-Feb-15
Let it said I don't give up!

I've attempted this multi 7 times over the past month, luckily I work just up the road. It's possibly the hardest I have done, but also one of the most rewarding.

WP1 was AWOL the first couple of visits, but after some coms with Pyobeon, and when he had replaced it I had it in hand.

WP2 was harder. I visited this 3 times before I reached out for help. Pyobeon's new hints were good, certainly not giving too much away but putting the original hints a different way. The original hints ARE all you need, I just wasn't smart enough to work them out (I really must do more crosswords). Co-ords where out quite a bit for me on this one, but that was probably the trees. This cache is SUPER sneaky, I can see why many people had issues.

GZ took me about 20 minutes, as the co-ords were a little much for my poor mobile phone. There is a terrific treasure there at the moment, I wish I had taken something with me to swap.

If I had any advice it would be it's all in the name.

Thanks Pyobeo - I wonder what I will do with my lunch times now Smile

Found WPT1 but WPT2 too good for me, back another time.

12-Feb-15
I found WP1 after reporting it missing and coming back.

WP2 has been much harder though, I "think" I understand the clue but after 3 visits and quite a few cobwebs in the face and splinters I'm finally seeking extra help.

25-Jan-15
WP1 replaced, and numbers in WP2 updated to match. The new numbers should rule out the short-cut one or two finders used in the past of using just the latitude or the longitude and brute force. If you are part way through this multi and have found one WP but not the other, you can still find the coords by very simple maths.

24-Jan-15
WP1 is missing. I am remaking this. Hope to deploy, at least a temporary version, by Monday.

Well... Grumpy is in the general area, but that really doesn't help! Finding WP1 and WP2 gives you everything you need! I checked GZ and WP2 in the last couple of weeks, and they are fine.

What a great walk, take my hat off to the work of the local bush are group. Had GZ coords in no time, departed for an amazing walk just below WP1. Container spotted quickly at GZ and photo of grumpy card taken if I ever need it.
Thank you so much for sharing the walk with us, TFTC

At wp1, Pk had camo in hand and then he dropped it back coz it was so well camo'd... Jendid double checked and found it! We all had a good laugh!
Then went back to wp2, after a PAF but had no luck after another 40 mins spent! The group then decided to move to the southing of gz and follow photos to find gz! And voila! Cache was found! Log signed & replaced! TFTC
PS- we will return for wp2!

Found at 3:03 PM with my geo-pup Squizzy, AlphaDeltaIndigo, pk1965 and Jendid. ADI called me up in the early afternoon because they were in the area and wanted to see if I could come out to play. I decided I could spare a little time to attempt some of the last remaining caches nearby with the group that I am yet to find. After they had found the Lane Cove Virtual Cache and #64 The Bogle-Chandler Mystery Cache, I met up with them and we stopped off at Oh My Reid first so they could find it before making our way over to the Sticks & Stones Multi Cache. We attempted the second waypoint (Drifter) to begin with but after spending quite some time searching around with no luck, we moved on to the first waypoint (Kidnapped) to make a relatively quick find of the clue. Reading some of the previous logs we were reasonably confident that we could find the cache without the Southing and once at Ground Zero we had found the cache in little to no time at all. We performed the signing duties and returned the cache to its original hiding location. Signed Log, Took Nothing Left Nothing. Now I am really intrigued as to where the Drifter clue could be but we enjoyed the boardwalk's handcrafted railing and seats very much. Thanks For The Cache Pyobeon and for bringing us here!

Found this one this afternoon whilst out on the calendar gap and DT rating cache hunt that brought me to Lane cove.

As CJ is away, I did this one solo. The month has ticked over to winter and so has the weather. It is much cooler out here now, but bush walking and geocaching are great ways to warm up.

I found the first way point OK as I knew what to look for. The second way point proved more tricky. After a little hint from the CO, I went and quickly found it. Argh! I had this in my hand last time, it was so well camo'ed that I was fooled.

So, now I had both the southing and the easting, the cache was a straight forward find. I followed the path for a quick bush find. As I wandered towards the GZ, I was a little paranoid about leeches, with all the recent rain. However, all was good. The cache log are in good nick. I did the signing duties and replaced it exactly as found.

Anyway, you've gotta love an excuse to get out into the bush and find a cache. Thanks Pyobeon for another of your sneaky caches. SL TNLN TFTC

Fixed WP2.

I checked both waypoints. WP1 is where it should be. So is WP2, but it is damaged and will require tools to retrieve. I will try to do this in the next few days. If you are determined to get this before I fix it contact me and I'll tell you what you will need.

I had a good solid look around for wp1 today - I searched everywhere, discovered the real meaning behind the clue, expanded my search.. But I didn't find anything at all! I also briefly searched for wp2, but no luck there either. I will have to come back another time, as I am now determined to find this one Smile

I dropped by today. GZ is fine, although was completely exposed - it is now hidden again. WP2 had suffered a bit of creep, which suggests that it has been found recently. I replaced it in the intended location. Didn't check WP1.

I was doing a walk around Lane Cove River this afternoon and decided to try my luck again with WP2. Once again I was unsuccessful although I did not spend very long looking as there was a lot of traffic on the track today. Like others before me, I decided to see if I could locate GZ without the southing. Success! It did help that the cache was partially exposed as the camo is starting to break away. I signed the log and replaced the cache with a bit more camo. Thanks Pyobeon for a great cache. I will continue to search for WP2 every time I walk on this track.
