Find number 13631 at 11:34:57AM on Wednesday the 21 August 2024We're on our way to WA Goes Big, travelling from Croydon (Melbourne, Victoria) with a caravan in tow and making a leasurely caching holiday across the Nullarbor and back.Today we're heading for the road west, up to Port Augusta and then west as well as grabbing the odd geocache along the way. Destination for the day is Iron Knob.A quick stop and find on the side of the highway.**Thanks for placing this cache Tk2**---*WOW, so much happening here in Victoria*Dont forget to log your will attend for Victorias first ever Block Party in March 2025, the [**The Sunbury Event**](https://coord.info/GCAP417).Theres also all those lists of amazing geocaches at [Geocaching Victorias List webpage]( https://geocachingvictoria.com.au/information/great-caching-lists), go check them out.
Seen a few of these Goyder cairns on our travels. Our running mate is back from NZ and about to tackle the next 2800km to Darwin. Caching around Red Hill and Crystal Brook while he restarts his run.Tk2, I found As only Goyder Cairn today. Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache.
A quick stop on the side of the road to stretch the legs.
With a few days off work I decided to head north for a night to the Flinders Ranges, and attempt to find SAs longest unfound traditional cache and Mount Abrupt plus what ever I had time for in the area. A beautiful part of the world up here.
Thanks for the cache

Very long grass so we followed Chookster's lead and stomped our way to the cairn. Despite having a snake bite kit in the vehicle we'd prefer not to need it.. Very interesting story about the significance of Goyders line. Cache was quickly found and stamped. Tftc.
This was the first of a few on the way home from an awesome few days camping at Mambray Creek with Karyn71. The grass was really long and we had to stomp our feet to scare away any "nasties". Found quickly and logged. TNLN. Cheers.
Quick find by me and Chookster on our way home from a holiday. The tin, bag and log are functional but all in need of a rejuvenation. TFTC
Another cache hunt on our 2022 South Australian Adventure. Thanks to all the COs for taking us on this geo-tour. We have enjoyed our time in SA, but it is time to make our way back West.
Out on caching adventures with Wollaston.
Discovered with lid off and full of tiny snails, evicted the occupants and found the lid.
Thanks to the many hands and minds taking time to set out and maintain hides and for showing us your special part of the world

Lovely view of the hills on our way to Blyth, especially at golden hour. Cache needs some maintenance though. TFTC
This weekend, I headed to Whyalla to catch up with a few other Geocachers and attempt some of the trails there. On Saturday, we targeted the FTF power trail from Whyalla to Iron Knob, and then spent the evening and the subsequent morning driving some of Whyalla's back tracks. On Sunday, I visited Cowleds Landing and back north, only to get severely bogged in one of Whyalla's clay pans. I then returned home via the August series.
Today, we started the day at a meet/greet breakfast event, and then I headed out with hevwalker and scramping for a few more geocaches south-west of Whyalla along the back tracks and main road, followed by the December trail series. I then continued south visiting Cowleds Landing and the proclaimed nudist beach. I next found *Potty Time*, only to realise that I had driven on the nearby clay pans, and then sank into the soft clay below on my way out. Eventually I had help in getting out, and finished my remaining time in Whyalla completing the pipeline August series, and calling into Whyalla Conservation Park for a few high favourite caches. I then made the long journey back to Adelaide stopping at a few miscellaneous geocaches along the way.
Unfortunately, it looks like this Goyder plaque doesn’t get a lot of love compared to a number of the other Goyder stops, as evident from the long grass around it. At least it was a quick find cache find for me this evening, marking this as my final find for the day. The logbook was in good shape, but the cache container doesn't currently have any lid. Thanks Tk2 for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.

earthlight wanted a drive to Kadina for some geocaching and to place an adv lab there[^] and I sure wasn't saying no
We had a big day starting about 9am I dropped earthlight back at her home about midnight[|)][xx(][|)]
Believe it or not though, we never got to Kadina Port Wakefield got an adv lab instead[^]
On our way home, we had AMAZING fish and chips for tea in Port Pirie at the 'Church of Fish and Chips' run by Spirou Seafood and Salad[:X][^][:X][:X][^][:X] Delicious![:X][^][:X] You know the old 'Port Wakefield for a hamburger' drive[?] I think it's just become a 'Port Pirie for fish and chips drive'[^][^]
Once earthlight was home, Rex and I went to spend another hour or two at Hunting Ryan[?][^]
My total was 34 cache finds and only 2 DNFs so I was happy[^]
Some awesome sights seen[^], great back roads travelled (some more slippery than others especially after rain showers passed overhead) and Rex had a ball running some roads and chasing vermin out of cemeteries[^]
We saw lots of 'old schools or sites'[^], entered tiny townships and learned lots of history[^]
It was great to be out in the country and finding caches with good company[^] and as always, geocaches showed us things we never would have seen otherwise[^][:X][^]
Thank you to all of the CO's who gave us a reason to be out and about[^][:X][^]

TFTC TK2 it’s getting late now so just picking up the last few for today. Thanks for bringing us to this location, the cache was signed & dated then returned to its hiding place.
So after a great weekend of fun, frivolity and food in Quorn we packed up camp and headed back home to Adelaide. We took the scenic route and found 33 caches on our way plus adding 5 new dnfs to our tally.
It was quite overcast but we didn't get wet so that was a bonus. It was nice to see some of these small country towns although we were quite underwhelmed by the Golden North factory at Laura we had been expecting something much grander and a nice ice cream cafe! We had a nice packed lunch at Wirrabra and finally arrived home at 6pm in time to cook a roast supper.
Thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Quorn another part of the state we would like to explore further.
After 5 dnf further up the road trip back from Quorn I persuaded the geohusband to let me add in some extras so we could collect a decent amount. This was one of them, always wondered about Goyder and today 2 caches about him. Quick easy find. TFTC Tk2

Park and grab while heading to Adelaide. Met a few of his relatives who live in WA.
Trying hard to ignore the rubbish joke in the title of the cache,
I stopped by this lump of rock to read about the line
Yeah !!
Nothing I didn't know already
As for the cairn ...
... well I guess it is in its infancy and will grow a bit more one day
TFTC in this parched bit of SA

Driving back to Adelaide after a day or two working in the mid north and saw this on the way. Goyders line has always been a fascination and when the kispds were young it was always a topic for discussion. So when I saw this I had to stop. Quick find, sign log and replaced.
Onwards to home.

Until we started caching, we had not heard of Goyder and the Goyder Line. It is amazing that Goyder could complete such important work with limited resources, slow transport and little data. Pioneer scientists and researchers were highly skilled. There are many memorials and cairns around the country celebrating the work of Goyder - it was pleasing to visit another. Accurate coordinates and the hint led to a quick find. The cache and contents were in good condition. Thanks for the cache Tk2.
We were off on a road trip to Woomera sadly work related but we got the oppertunity to do a few caches on the way to break up the drive.

We are loving SA with its beautiful hills (mountains?), green grass and sheeps. Someone could think that it's nothing special or uncommon but after weeks spent in the north, with the desert as background and spinifex everywhere this is very welcome to us and remember us a bit of home. Well, more than every other place we saw in Australia so far. So thanks for this cache

TFTC.11.00. From Perth to Melbourne is our last vacation journey in Australia, along this route, we look for caches. Greetings from the Netherlands
Nice to read about the state we are visiting and I notice in reading about Port Pirie the line is still mentioned. Thanks for the history and the cache.
Interesting piece of history that is still relevant. We are heading to the other side of his line - arid lands. TFTC
Heading home after a week away and leaving early to beat the traffic jam from Pt Wakefield but of course there is always time to find a cache or two. TFTC
Man this place needs a little bit of TLC by the local council. Could have got lost if I didn't have my trusty machete to help cut my way through the jungle vines. Cache located quite easily once at GZ. Then the battle to fight my way out through the undergrowth that seemed to latch at me every step of the way.

Touring Australia having left Perth in late February we are leisurely touring South Australia.
Staying in a 'Free Camp' we werent sure what the weather was going to hold for today. Turned out quite magical, with grey thunder clouds overhead but sunshine still shining through.
We visited the towns of Merriton, Redhill, Koolunga, Yacka and Gulnare also Threadgold's Crossing. A busy day and lots of fun exploring, but with sadly 4 DNF's.
Thanks for helping us tour this region by visiting your cache Tk2
