Found as we head to Lauder didn't spend to much time admiring the wall. Thanks for the placement and the smiley. Signed and replaced as found
Beautiful autums day walk. Have been wating to do this cache for a while now. Pretty easy find. Enjoyed the adventures this one took us on. Thanks so much.
With easter weekend upon us we decided to do a quick trip to Otago so we could ride the rail trail bike track. This has been on our bucket list for a very long time and so we decided last week that we would pack up the campervan and come and do it. I had decided to start in Alex and follow the rail trail up to Clyde then bike the river track back to Alex then on to Lauder.Gk found this one as per the hint and in between muggles, as there were loads of other bikers on the trail this afternoon. Thanks for placing this cache and thank you for the smiley
Just decided to do a quick out along the trail until lunchtime, then return, geocaching as we go. Great weather for it today & there are plenty of groups out cycling. Cache is all good. TFTC
Convinced hubby to go for a drive from Alex and drop off me & the bike so I could ride back to the caravan. Was a longer drive than expected but found a junction with the Otago rail trail and the road near Oturehua. A fantastic ride of 60kms in the end.Almost done - TFTC
This is about the fourth time that I've cycled along this bit of the bike trail and I've never noticed the wall before. I was pleased to notice a bit of a track leading up from the cycle trail though it soon petered out. GZ appeared to be a bit short of the cache which was soon found in a nice dry spot shortly after I widened the search area.
Out for a walk on the trail
I love this place in winter time , today was not as good as i have seen over the winters i had when i lived in Alex.
I remember when we had no sun for 22 days just freezing fog every thing is white and it just beautiful.
So this morning judt took me nzck to the winter wonderland i remember and a nice walk in
This land scape is always great.
I love these dry stone walls it is just amazing how by just stacking bits of stone our pioneers built walls , building , and all sorts of structures from what was just lying around .
A quick find at gz and with log signed we where on our way .
Thank you for the Memorie
Getting out and about in to the out doors is my happy place so any excuse to go caching. As if I need an excuse aahhh nop I will go rain hail or snow so let's goooo and have as much fun and adventures as possible tomorrow may never come.
Life is short. Live life one foot step at a time.Never say" I'm gonna "- Just do it!! Tomorrow may never come just grab Life by the horns

After spending a couple of days exploring Ranfurly it was time to head to Queenstown for the Gibbston Concert.

Thank heavens for my note book. Somehow or other I did not mark this as found on my Garmin, which would have meant that I would not have logged it.
A great location although I was somewhat spoiled for choice deciding which likely place was the correct one.

Having completed the A2O a couple of days ago, the first day on the ORT is a breeze but the rain has made it rather unpleasant.

On a trip south from Tauranga. Nice to collect smiles along the way. Start of OTR. All good here.
I am logging using the Cachly app template so please excuse generic logging along the way. It’s just my way of keeping track, but I do genuinely thank each and every one of you cache owners for taking the time and energy to place these caches. Logged with permission. Many Thanks for bringing me here. Cheers.

As an out of towner, and with your vehicle at the garage, what does one do to pass the time?
Go for a trek along a trail. Easy find, Mr Rabbit at GZ was a little startled though.
Do I head back to town or to Close the Lid? How much time have I got?

Had a moment spare so thought I would go for a small stroll. I had been on this route once before, on an evening horse ride, but didn't realise there was a cache directly below me so today was the day.
Finally located cache after sitting and admiring the view and birdsong.

Now cycling the central otago rail trail an awesome experience. With a few caches to provide the cherry on top. TFC
Today Injeanious and I biked some of the rail trail, 45km round trip from Alexandra. The day started off great but our return trip was raining and we got very wet. We had a great time, thanks for all the caches on the way!
I was enjoying trying out an ebike for the first time but it was nice to have a little break and stretch the legs. A quick find. Tftc.
Beautifully built stone wall. Amazing what the old timers achieved thanks for the cache
Day 1 on the Otago Rail Trail from Clyde to Omakau. A short scramble up the hill to this one and it wasn’t long before we had this one in hand.
Great spot! Pencil could do with a sharpen or replacement, sorry we didn’t have one with us.
Quick find and an amazing wall. Lovely fragrant wild thyme growing along the way. TFTC
My bike tire has a slow leak. It’s now a bit flat parked the car just up at the road. Harder work biking than earlier on. Taking the long way home from Naseby to collect some cache for the latest challenge.
Jammed my thumb in the van at work so a few extra days off work so back up this way for a few more days and some more caching. Lots of mud on the track and I would definitely not take a car to the cache. Nice and easy to find. TFTC picked up a trackable to
Took a minute to locate but most of that was walking up from the bike trail. Glad to be finally out of the fog, and able to take a layer off.

Just completed the Otago Rail trail and tomorrow we are going to ride the Clutha Gold trail. A rest day in Alexandria walking 18 kilometres and cycling 6 kilometres geocaching. TFTC.
Presumably part of a water race - can see the line of it on the aerial photo. Not quite at GZ, but found fast enough.
A novel place to build a nice rock wall... a quick scramble to get up close and personal to it...found with out too much trouble signed and replaced ...I have picked the wrong way to go today ...that wind is mean lol thanks for the nice cache mollymop
These old diggers were very industrious weren't they? But of a scramble and cacge found. Thanks for the placement mollymop
The wind is getting worse but quite happy to look for this. We walked our bikes from here while RowenaD went ahead to get the car and meet us at next road. Apparently roofs and powerpoles are going flyng in Alex
Here with RowenaD and Darthjamie, this was when the wind started. Master Jamie got blown off his bike with an unexpected sidewind. Great day out nevertheless.
rustynz tells me I need to catch up with all my logging
This was when we were in the South Island, doing the Otago cycle rail trail.
Sorry for the generic logs. But thank you to all the CO for the hides and the maintenance on all your caches.

Cycling our way to Ophir after leaving Clyde this morning, following the river trail. Its already lunch time, where did the time go?
With rebel98 and muggles. This is when I discovered the joys of seeding thyme plants that want to stick to your clothing
Lovely spot for a cache, thanks for the hide.

I still believe you don't have any snakes here in New Zealand.. )) Thank you for the cache! Diky moc!
Four weeks we spent together with Lwagnero and Geoded wandering through the beautiful New Zealand and occasionally also searched caches. This was one of them that we found. Thanks and greetings from Czech Republic.
Three catchers plus three muggles spent four weeks in New Zealand and so we browsed along our way. Tree days bike trip Central Otago lead us tu this cache. TFTC
On the Otago Central Rail Trail (day 1) route proper now, and finding what I can on route. Difficult when my colleagues keep in pedalling and I have to catch up. However, a quick find so only a few km behind! TFTC
I'm down in Otago to cycle the Otago Rail Trail over a relaxed 5 day period and took the opportunity to find a few geocaches along the way. Day 1 was from Clyde to Omakau and this cache was a quick find along the way. TFTC!
Last day on the track, and naturally we have to log a few caches along the way . Tftc!
A bit of back ground to the cache location.
We were the second to find the cache back in 2010 and speculated that the top of the wall looked like a water race. Since then we have discovered a bit about its history. It is indeed an old water race, The Rose Thistle and Shamrock. It was built in 1865 to provide water for the Tucker Hill Diggings a kilometer or so south of the cache. It sourced its water in the Ophir Gorge, just above the rail trail viaduct over the Manuherikaia River, 13 km to the north. Having crossed the Manor burn, near to where the dam is now situated, it ran in a corrugated iron flume along the rock face to connect with the top of the wall by the cache.
Unfortunately it was found to come out in the gold mining area too low on the hill to be much use for sluicing and was soon abandoned.
Recently, local mountain bikers have cleared it of vegetation and it can be ridden run or walked most of the way from Alexandra above the rail trail. Best access is up a 4 wheel drive track about 50 metres north of the Rail Trail - Tucker Hill Road crossing. Just ride up hill till you cross a level bike track.
You can ride north from the wall ( a wee bit technical), but an easier option is to back track about 150 m to an easy way down to the rail trail.

Another great find. Lovely ride in sunshine on rail trail. I've got a good trainer! TFTC
We are traveling around New Zealand. We are so glad that we can discover this beautiful country. We enjoy it so much. This cache was found during our travel.
Thank you. Greetings from Czech Republic

That took longer than it should have relied on coordinates rather than previous logs out by about 5-10m
TFTC Thank you for going to the effort of hiding this cache. You have shown us a new place and have helped make geocaching an enjoyable activity.
A straightforward find while cycling the Otago Central Rail Trail.
Thank you mollymop for this cache.
Thank you mollymop for this cache.
Our first day biking the Orago rail trail. A very strong headwind, so I was very happy to have an excuse to pause now and then.
