Found as we enjoyed a lovely day out exploring this area, we had tried for this one once before with no luck, finally we are able to return to try again, we drove it as far as we could, parked and walked the rest of the way, the poor geowagon has been through enough today and not sure it would make the last bit. this one took us a while to locate but with the help of previous logs we manged to make the find, Coords were off and the container is much smaller than stated on the cache page, log signed and replaced as found, Thanks for the fun
A nice find although a tad testing, on a enjoyable day caching in and around the Enfield state forest. TFTC TNLN
Quick find today with FerociousFlea.
Found on our Christmas Eve caching day in and around Ballarat..
Awesome spot to come in the old GQ Patrol... she's an oldie but a goodie
Coords were out a bit but with some previous logs we were able to find the cache.
Might have to bring the 4WD club back here

Found with Beaker on a camping and caching trip in and around Ballarat. Awesome spot! Thanks
Finally 2 years after doing all the rest in this area I was able to pick this one up, thanks to the Tritonz for the assist.
Took a bit to find this one, only found with help from previous comments (& our dog). Located 10-11m meters from coordinates and in a smaller container. Lovely area and a nice workout thanks for the cache!
Extreme walking up and down literally. Found the cache away from posted coordinates with Phetlern log. My waypoint was S37 42.060 E143 43.562 for what its worth. Enjoyed the climb all the same and the hunt. Last one for today. FP. TNLN TFTC

The size of the container here has diminished somewhat in size over the five years since it was placed. Fortunately the log has dried out over the past few weeks. Walking in today was interesting and we fully endorse the log of "If " dated 5/02/14.
Satellites today had our GZ 16m NNE of where we found the cache.
We called here while out and about, mainly off the beaten track, in the area, between Inverleigh and Staffordshire Reef.
Our thanks to PaLLa for bringing us to this location.

This cache appears to be in need of owner attention. Based on logs and what we found it hasn't had an TLC for a looooong time. Whilst the log was dry today;
- the container is not waterproof
- information on cache page does not reflect the container size
- co-ords would appear to need checking - rough co-ords = S37 42.059 E143 43.558
We removed the crap/mildew log

Parked at the top of the hill (didn`t want to tackle this by myself) and walked the 100 so metres to GZ. I didn`t find a 1.2 litre container, but a much smaller one. Log is damp. Beware the mozzies. Tftc
Nice straight forward find. Getting there, well that's another story but was definitely great fun. TFTC
I loved getting to this cache!! Found it easy enough in another great hiding place! Log is a lil wet. I've stood the cache upright so more water won't get in. Tftc and the bumpy journey getting here!
Decided that even with the 4 wheel drive my best attack alone was to walk in and search. Slipping up the hill on foot was fine; coming down was no problem as I wasn't looking at the GPS so much. Much better to do it that way I think.
Happy to have this crossed off. TFTC PaLLa

We drove the small 4x4 as far as we dared and then with geodog in tow we headed off. Well that really got the heart pumping, all I could think of was I had to do the return trip. After a short search we found the cache. The dog loved the walk. I just about crawled back up the hill. Thanks for the cache.
Only small container with a few coins in it. Signed log book. Left nothing took america quarter dollar the fun of getting here. TFTC
I drove in a short way from the waypoint yesterday and saw the hill and decided that this one was better tackled on foot another day
Sure I own a 4WD and have spent a bit on modifications to make it more comfortable to drive and more capable off road.
But for the life of me I cannot see why you would risk that investment on a stupid hair-brained idea like driving down into that gully and up the other side !! [:o]
Not to mention the unnecessary environmental damage to our precious forests just to massage a fragile 4WD'ers EGO
Already most of the so called steep tracks have washed out to such an extent that numerous 'easier tracks' have been bulldozed into the landscape.
Those tracks in turn have eroded.
Before long this entire gully will look like an 1800's goldmining area again .... totally wrecked for another 150 years
So back again this morning,
In the name of geocaching,
I returned on foot.
And stode down the steep hill and up the other side to GZ without a problemo !!
TFTC and view of a wasteland !!
Somebody is going to kill themselves, or someone else here !!

We thought we'd pick up the few in the "thanks to" series that we are missing and others in the area, on this lovely Sunday afternoon.
Couldn't believe roads could be vertical!!
took nothing, left nothing. cache in good condition.
thanks for the cache- Highrod

So I've been out all day 4WD and caching having a blast. Starting driving up this and thought cool a good 4WD track, stopped put my ute in 4WD here we go..... Ok so my ute is sliding going down the first steep stuff so I stopped as my tyres are full of clay from todays fun and im not sure if I can turn around down there! Holy crap good thing I stopped going up the other side will require my winch. So you have proven that Australia have hills that I could downhill mtb on... My dog is having way too much fun running up and down these hills! Cache Coordz are out lots! Great spot will be back for some fun!
Finally found it!!.. Bring a pen.. The one in it is buggered!.. And the GPS doesnt work.. Small package hard to find.. You can see my efforts in trying to get the pen working.. Oops. Happy Easter!.. Oh and keep driving on the trail it does get you there. Dicko
Thanks to stooy for replacing the cache.
Perhaps the size of the listed cache needs to be updated to a smaller size, or a larger replacement cache put in its place.

Really enjoyed the journey to find this one. GPS was a bit off so we walked in circles before finding.
Parked quite far away for this one. Didn't see the tracks until we began on foot.
There is no way my car would ever have made it up and down those hills! My God. They were basically vertical!
Spent 20 or so minutes looking for the cache. GPS was being cray, so we walked and searched in circles.
Eventually, as we gave up, and walked on the track back, we spotted it!
(well namloh did)
Cache was empty (except for log), so left a few carabiners.
Thanks!

My favorite cache of the day. I have been wanting to do this cache ever since I started geocaching and read all the cache descriptions in the Ballarat area... ok so I was a little addicted back then, unlike now.. *cough*
Thumpa our go-anywhere-zombie-killing-geomobile loved the track down here and back up again and down again and then again on the way out. This would be a crazy place in the wet! We will have to come back with extra geomobiles next time!
We too found the remains of the burnt cache in the base of a blackened tree.
I left a small emergency replacement cache with a log next to the remains. It would be a shame to see this disabled as it is a great spot and an adventure in itself just to get here.
Thanks heaps to PaLLa for sharing the fun.

This was one of over 110 caches I found during a huge day and night of caching with my fellow cachers Trailrunning, Rebel Acts and Blacklegend (The Demolition Crew). As we all had the day free we carefully planned in advance the run and decided to call it Ballarat Smackdown II. The plan was ambitious and resulted in almost 22 hours of continual caching.
The day started in the early hours of the morning in the far eastern suburbs of Melbourne, then moving through the northern suburbs then onto and along the Western Freeway to Enfield State Forest then north up to Ballarat itself. We cached through Melton, Pykes Reservoir and Bacchus Marsh and many of the country roads north and south of the Western Freeway as we made our way west.
We had a fantastic day finding all the different types of caches and there were some quite inventive, very tricky and well constructed hides that we found. I thank all the cache owners for the time and effort they have spent in placing all the caches we found today.
I found making our way through the Enfield State Forest to be the highlight of the day and my Prado handled it very nicely. We couldn't believe it when some more caches were published in here the next day so we immediately began planning our next Ballarat Smackdown trip.

Another legendary cache run by The Demolition Crew (myself, TrailRunning, Quasar3671 and Rebel Acts). We have dubbed it Ballarat Smackdown II. This was a huge run taking us all the way from near Cardinia, via the northern suburbs of Melbourne, to Bacchus Marsh and Melton and finally Ballarat. A massive loop, and over 100 caches for the run. The company was as always fantastic, a lot of laughs, good dinner, and great caches. Many thanks to all the CO's for the hides, without them we wouldn't have been able to find anything.
I'll claim a find on this one, even though it is pretty much burnt out, found the remnants of it. Bit of a walk, which was some effort, but always worth it for a higher terrain cache. TFTC.

This was, cache # 85 of 117 finds for the day in the company of The Demolition Crew. Walking up that hill was a killer, we found what was left of the cache. My thanks to PaLLa for the cache.
This cache was found by me today in the company of The Demolition Crew.
While I strive to make my logs personal to every cache, I have far too many logs to do, that I apologise in this instance for using a generic log. I thank you for the placement of this cache as it was one of many that made up a great day for me and the crew..
The Day's Blurb...
The annual holidays is always a great time to relax and take it easy, but not today. The Demolition Crew had decided that after such a long break from caching together that we would start the year off with a bang! So the planning minds were put into operation, and Ballarat Smackdown II was conceived.
The smackdown started along way from Ballarat, in fact in the hills around Cardinia Reservoir and from there is was a push across the northern suburbs of Melbourne through Melton & Bacchus Marsh. It being such a hot day, the waters of Pykes Creek Reservoir cooled and refreshed us, and we were soon off to start on the Ballarat caches.
Since our first Smackdown in the area, many new caches have popped up, so it was a fruitful run which ended well into the early morning. A couple of caches were replaced as a way of saying thanks to those who took the time to place them, and I think in the end my tally was well over 100 for the run.
It was a completely awesome day, and I thank you for placing the cache. We will return to the Ballarat area soon as there are still a number of caches we left undiscovered.

I will claim this as a find as i found the ashes of this cache, sadly not much more that that was left. Just a pen nib, metal log spine and a circular object like a mini speaker frame. It fire was so hot only metal objects remain. On the bright side the spot was much easier to find. !!!!!
I could not replace today, so this one will need to be archived.

Due to fuel reduction burns (29/10/2012) this cache may be lost. I would suggest disabling this cache for the moment until the area is safe to check and safe for public to enter..
Took awhile to find because coordinates are out by about 10m, but in the end the eagle eyes of my 7 yo spotted it. Piggy backed the 3 yo up and down that cliff face that some of you are calling a climb! As we were leaving some trail bikers arrived and showed us their skill by descending the aforementioned cliff at speed. Thumbs up to them. Great place to explore. Cheers.
drove as close as possible to GZ the geo wife's sat back and watched geo husbands climb up and down the hill and got to GZ and could not find cache started to read logs thanx to bushfire for putting new cordes and bingo there it was SL TFTC with a lot of huffing and puffing
Found on a day/night caching trip with Ogrebeast (like so many of our trips start as a couple of hours and end in the middle of the night). Saw Ogre and Ranger climb the hill on foot, and a mighty race back to the car. Won by Ogrebeast with a 10 metre head start on Ranger. Then took 15 minutes for both the silly old farts to catch their breath.... TFTC
I read the cache notes to the Moose and said, lets go for it. We drove as close as we could, until we came across a deeply rutted corner and I said I'm happy to walk. There was an alternate track, so we went down that and..... then the fun started. We definitely lived up to the name of the cache. Had a very close encounter with a tree, thought we were bogged, managed to get out with minimal damage to the ute. We decided to walk from there, as we were definitely not tackling that hill!!! Took a few photos to show some ppl who enjoy that sort of thing, then went for a cache hunt. Coords were out a bit, but after some searching we got there. Left a pathtag. Thanks for the adventure PaLLa!
Suscoe's 5th find on a day out in the bush with Bushfire!
Vehicle parked at a suitable spot and then the walking stick was employed.
Down, down, down, up, up,up, up,up oh boy what an incline!!!!!!!!!
Arrived at GZ and found ourselves in a clearing.
Widened the search and finally found the cache about 10 metres away, slippin down the slope!
Signed and rehidden.
Oh no, not that descent and incline in reverse!!!!!!!
Finally reached the vehicle, happy to have walked after we saw what others have tried and failed to do!!!!
Big thanks to PaLLa for this interesting experience.

The ageing Bushfire and the suscoe team decided to visit the Enfield Forest and look for all the "Thanks to caches" and others that have been placed in this lovely area.
The suscoe team worked out the route and planned our method of attack and all Bushfire did was to provide the wheels.
This was our fifth cache for the day and after bottoming out the Pajero on the way in we parked and walked as I am sure that we would still be sitting at the bottom if we had made it that far. The evidence was to be seen that some had tried but failed, even walking down and up the very steep rutted tracks was an effort.
We found this cache but like others we were about 10m out, I will put another set of co-ords on this log so you can please yourself.
I picked up a traveller but it has not be logged as being in this cache.
Thanks to PaLLa for bringing us to this location.

Found on our afternoon Enfield run. Thought we would tackle this one this afternoon and so glad we did as it was a verygood workout for both our legs and lungs. Very appropriate name for this one as that is exactly what would happen trying to tackle this one after rain. Thank PaLLa for the cache.
We didn't brave the hill in the 4x4, husband and kids wanted to but I chickened out. We had to hunt for a little but found it in the end!
Good job I approached this with caution- that's a BIG hill!
Shame about the litter at the top though - why do people go bush and then spoil it for others. TFTC.

I was driven to the opposite side off the hill here by my chauffeur today, Sully1, who was unwilling to test out her new Prado on this cynch of a slope. So I made my way down and up again, and took an eternity to locate this hide. My GPS was playing up today, so had me 11m from GZ when I finally spotted.
Thanks for the exercise, and the well named cache PaLLa

Slippin alright!!!!! What a hill climb! Had a bit of fun in the four wheel drive today. Thanks for the hide.
Parked the car at the motor bike unloading site that DSE have set up in Victoria Rd (Co-ords included in this log) and headed off on the push bike. The signs said this was a trail bike friendly area, but I didn't see any whilst I was here. I followed the road round to the south of the gz and then made my way along a track to the cache, though I think could have followed the track that started where I parked the car.
The cache site was certainly steep. Looks like a few 4x4's have had some fun here. I tried to get a photo, but it's always hard to show how steep it is.
No problems finding the cache. The co-ords seemed a little off, but it was in a fairly obvious spot. I made sure the cache was properly covered when I left. It should be obvious to cachers.
Thanks for bringing me here.

The last cache of the day that I did, I was happy to get this one done, it's in the thick of the forest and your car can only take you so far I parked on Italian Gully Road and bushbashed until I could follow a 4WD path in, then spotted the car death trap ie. half a dozen totally gutted steep tracks pointing into a gully. I would be amazed to see someone take a 4WD down one of them and make it out without ruining the undersides on the way back up.
Anyway as for the cache, I found the coords to be a bit out, I've attached my version - 10m away, a bit closer to the track from GZ, with the cache hide facing towards the track and away from GZ. It took me a while to figure this out, just had to check every last nook and cranny is all. It's been a while between finds, it must suffer from middle of nowhere syndrome.

What an understatement, Slippin. Took the trusty Patrol down the steep entry then decided to attempt the climb to GZ, I thought my knees wouldn't survive the walk up. My best caching buddy, sully1 decided to bail before the climb was attempted. Made it almost halfway getting hung up on a rock step and experiencing wheel slip, so reversed down to the bottom. Sully1 and I took to shanks pony and walked up and soon the cache was in hand. TFTC
Slippin is an understatement! Certainly if it had of been wet today. On a days caching with micaparamedic in the trusty 4wd. On the road down, all I could think of was "I'm glad we don't have to go up THAT one" when I spotted the track ahead of us. Micaparamedic then informned me, "Yep" we need to go up. Not being the experienced and adventurous 4WD'r that he is, I elected to get out at the bottom of the hill, and walk, stating I'd log for him too, when I got there. But he had to attempt it. I watched with crossed fingers, and shaking legs, as he made it almost halfway, before backing down. We both took the good old walking mode, GPS took a minute or two to settle (as did my nerves), and the cache was in hand. Greatful to micaparamedic for bringing me this way, not one I would have done in my own car. TNLNSL. Many Thanks paLLa for the cache and the climb.
Great spot for a cache. GZ was slightly challenging as the GPS was showing one way then another. Would recommend walking in along the track from the south of the cache - i.e. leave car at Italian Gully Trk intersection. Yes a challenge for the 4wd's to get to GZ and a challenging walk with steep and loose inclines and declines, but the amount of damage being done to bush along the track by motorised things, including bikes, is disturbing to see. TFTC.
I always enjoy seeing a bit of forest I haven't visited before and this was no exception. Made my way in and surveyed the scene. I decided the right hand side was the way to go and headed on up with a minimum of slippage. Cache was located easily enough then, to complete the exercise, I descended via the left side track and wandered back out to the recommended parking spot where I'd left my vehicle. (A bit more than the Forester would be able to handle, I'd decided.)
Many thanks, PaLLa, for showing me such a fascinating playground for those so inclined. And believe my, those playing there will certainly be "inclined"!

Found by Deano and Troy at 11:00.
Some great 4WDing to be had in this neck of the woods.
Cache name very appropriate. The well worn track was turning to dust under our tyres, so we took the approach up the left hand side.
A large branch had very recently come down on the other side of the gully, so we have moved it aside so it is out of the way for the next driver.
We'll be back at some stage to explore the area a bit more, but time was pressing and we had to be back at the pub for lunch.
Cache was well stocked with great Swaps.
Grabbed FTF certificate.
Thanks again PaLLa , you are taking us to some great places with your cache hides!
