With Gap (of Fap and Gap)... Our target today was to find caches with difficulty ratings of 2.5 and greater. Gap spied a whole lot in the Gisborne region... Road trip. It rained on and off throughout the day, making conditions slippery underfoot and slow-going at times. Weather coupled with quite a few DNFs made this a bit of a disappointing mission. Nevertheless, we soldiered on, as we do...
I always wondered where Waihirere was... Their culture group has long ranked among the best in the country in the Maori world... The caches in this area were sure targets for us, including one to fill a spot in my D/T Matrix.
We are almost certain that this is no longer... We searched fairly thoroughly for several minutes, poking and prodding all manner of cracks and holes for nothing. It could very well have fallen deep into a pocket within the rock, but either way, this hasn't been found in a while now.

Found it The clue helped big time Went to the rock that the photo showed and found the cache without a gps.
A quick visit to Gizzie, and enjoyed discovering the various locations that a bit of geocaching took me to. Brilliant weather. A quick find on a walk up to the falls.

Not where the GPS was reporting, but I liked the feature so much I decided to check it out, all before I realised the cache name.

Easy find with out seeing the photo while on a 5 day holiday from home in Whangamata
Great find on the way to the gorgeous waterfall at the end of the walkway. Thanks so much for the find, I haven't been out here since I was a kid.
Took us a bit of scrambling because the GZ was so far from the cache and we hadn't looked up the helpful information on the cache site - sorry taybee after all your hard work. Found with new cachers Wakaroa. TNLN TFTC
A wet track after some rain made for slippery conditions in places but no worries for the kids who shot up the track and soon returned (after getting bored waiting for us to catch up) with the cache. Didn't really need the GPS as The Rock is very easy to find. Pirate Pistol and Pirate Bell in/Foghorn Leghorn Rooster out. TFTC. SiLiRy
Like the previous finder I initially headed up the wrong track before realising I should be following the stream. With 4 caches up this very pretty little valley there is good incentive to make the effort and it is well worth while.
Many thanks
Many thanks
On a cache raid in the Gisborne area. This a nice walk in this nice piece of bush. At first I started up the wrong track but soon realised my mistake when it turned into a Terrain 5 Star.
Cheers for the cache.
Cheers for the cache.
bought the "home away from home' 7WED51 to Gisborne for 5 nights.. fantastic weather and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. really enjoyed this walk to the waterfall... nice place for a cache (or 4)... unfortunately we only managed to find 2, this being one of them... took NZkeko with puss'n'boots TB & Mount Everest GC to move on soon... Found it with Mr Chillipips in lovely weather for a walk. Round the corner and there it was.. Left Mt Everest coin (this cache looks up at a small peak near a 'large' rock from the view I had when logging it ) and Mr Chillipips left Pukeko coin too. TFTC

Nice stroll in the rain, first find for the day on our mission to clear the 10 caches remaining in Gisborne, now on to that other cache that is really hard to find.....
Thanks for placing this cache here, it gives people who cant find the other one a smilie.

Nice area, great rock! Enjoyed the walk in and soon located the cache. SL Thanks for the cache.
Did an afternoons cache hunt with a few other cachers and muggles. Great area to go hunting, tried a few of the doors but got there in the end TFTC. Signed along with the other cachers, but forgot to log. Chasing up other caches in the area and realised I hadn't done the 'paper work'.
Had high hopes of another Gisborne FTF at this cache, as it was published six days ago and remained unlogged this morning. With our mobile connection we could download only the top few cms of the photo, so were unsure how well we would recognise The Rock when we came across it. As it turns out the co-ords were spot on, and the Rock was instantly recognisable. Nice easy find, but pipped to the FTF by 2 hours . Thanks Taybee - nice to meet you earlier today.
