I was driving down this coast collecting caches as I went and found myself here and this showing up on the GPS. Sorry I didn't realise it had been disabled. I knew I didn't have anything that was 1000 cc capacity so had a scout around for anything but very good - no rubbish to be found. So I emptied out the contents of a plastic bag and headed down to the beach for the sand. Obviously a popular place to bring the kids after school. Gathered the sand but had left the scales at home! Beautiful beach and the sand is also gorgeous when all dried out when I got back home. Finally completed the calculations and was quite surprised at the answers. I am very sorry to see all your earthcaches have been archived in the interim - I've learned a lot through the ones I have completed. This is obviously the last! Cheers Stegan. TFTEC # 11,906

My wife and I have visited Brighton beach this afternoon. We made our observations and collected sand to bring back home 12000 km away. A couple of weeks later we made our measurements in the quietness of our kitchen. Thanks for this informative earthcache!

It was a long caching day. Together with Lady Murazor we reached the southernmost point of our New Zealand trip finding quite a few geocaches along our way and admiring excellent views. Fortunately the weather was better than yesterday. So it was a very good start of the next year! Well, tomorrow there's a time to head back north, our stay here is not as long as we would like it to be.

Another set of measurements performed...

Thank you for this cache and greetings from Kraków Poland!
Happy New Year 2017!

The beach visited and caches scored with Murazor on the 1st of January 2017. Happy New Year!
Stunnig place! And very interesting EC here. Thank you for the lesson which this EC brings.

On a rainy day, after the Earthquake near Culverden, we drove up to Dunedin. On the way we stopped several times to do some earthcaches.

That day we did a lot of these really interesting experiments. Thanks for that!!! This search was also very intersting, a lot of concentration was needed.

So far seen on this trip: Thailand and New Zealand.

TFTC from a geocacher on his journey through the world.

Danke!

After a semester abroad in New Zealand, I travel around the country with MMXX now. There are plenty of amazing spots to discover.
Thanks for placing a geocache here and sorry that I keep my logs short.

Email sent to CO. As we were measuring the weight onside with home scales the rain was starting. Sample of the sand taken so could fully answer first part.

Nice spot and really enjoyed getting this one with Eve07 and KJR for International Earthcache Day.

A great afternoon with Natalie247 and KJR playing in the sand sorting out an Earthcache today. Didn't think it would rain while we were on task. My first earthcache on International Earthcache Day. TFTC stegan

It all seems so long ago since the finding of these earthcaches around here but then life is hectic, but at least I have finally managed to complete the formalities to get a smilie. Also Mrs Dragon was getting annoyed at the samples sitting in the office and wanted a good tidy up.
I was down here for two days at the end of the year on my last Rep Training visit which as always necessitated in collecting the odd cache.
Had never been out here before so it made for an interesting drive up and over the hills. great views along here, may just have to bring the Dragon back sometime so we can enjoy it together and collect a few more caches.
The earth history of this location was interersting as I read more and more into it.

Thanks for an interesting stop on New Zealands Geological History

On Tour together with Sabe73 as Team "TheBros" around South Island to visit some nice spots.
We also visited this location and could find the box almost quickly.
Thank you for showing us this place and of course for the Cache.

Very nice visit to Brighton bright and early this morning. Even though we have not done sandy beaches I yet, it soon became clear that the sand is indeed different here. Funny what you don't notice when you don't have your earthcaching hat on. Tunfisk volunteered even more info as we walked to gz, reminiscing about a geology field trip and subsequent microscopic evaluation of sand samples in the lab. We quickly checked the sand at egz, but did a full investigation of the density and composition back home. Since we used a potential geocache container of unknown volume to collect the sand rather than a one litre container on food storage duties, the calculations did require a calculator Wink Most enjoyable morning, thank you!!!

Gathered my sample then made for home.
I'd borrowed a more powerful lens from work and this made the 1st task much easier than the wee hand held jobbie I had at home.
Another very interesting EC. Thanks Stegan.

Our 6492nd overall find.

Found on the "Gangsters" NZ Mega 2012 trip with steeba, The Rats and Farmer Frentzen. The professor came good again with this Earthcache pulling items from his bag of tricks. We all performed various tasks and the photos can be found on the Rats log. Email has been sent for our group.

Thanks stegan for the cache. Stats for our trip can be found here http://www.campersdownunder.com.au/geocaching/NZTrip/stats2.html

Found during 'The Gangsters' trip to New Zealand, being Big Matt, The Rats, steeba and myself.

We certainly had some fun with this one and the 3 of us enjoyed taking the mickey out of ECM (Earthcache Master) steeba with his bag of tricks. Answers submitted by email.

Thanks stegan for yet another educational cache.

Found as part of the Gangsters- The Rats, Farmer Frentzen and Big Matt and Shell- as part of our NZ Mega Event Tour 2012.

As we continued our travels so too did we have another stegan EarthCache to ponder. My fellow cachers keep taking the mickey out of me for all the experimentation we have have had to do on this trip (and there is even some homework for Australia!!!).

It was a pretty wild and windy day around here today but we managed to get our samples and weights. TFTC!

Found this cache as part of the Gangster's Aussie assault on the first NZ Mega with Big Matt, FarmerFrenzten and steeba.

We were pretty lucky with the weather here, it'd rained most of the way down the coast but as we pulled into this bay the rained stopped and we were able to collect our samples and inspect the sand why remaining relatively dry.
Thanks

Logged with CO 's OK ! [^] The story behind completing this cache might be a bit like the old TV soap opera of the same name. After the disappointment with bad timing of the Timbolo tide Twisted we were ready to head back to Mega HO for prize giving, en route saw another earthcache on GPS we could possible do to make it a multi varied cache type day. Aha! what do we need? TheWangler poured out the now redundant vinegar for the container we used to standardise the volume of sand for individual experiments in cache labs off shore. Carried out the measurements with precision apparatus - results noted & sand will now rest in a peaceful part of garden. Hope to return for more Stegan earthcaches soon. Smile

Wanted to get as many different types of caches today. We thought the Tombolo EarthCache would be a go and looked extremely interesting and had the 'adventure' aspect too. We had the tide right but it still wasn't low enough. With it being cold and windy we aborted our attempt. What now? We were driving back to MEGA and another EC popped up at Brighton Beach. We quickly read the description and thought we couldn't actually do it now but we'd grab some sand and do it later. I ended up doing it back home in my Cache Laboratory back in Christchurch. We took the required picture to show us at the beach. Collected sand using the 1lt bottle of vinegar I grabbed to do the Lime Kiln EC (which was closed to lambing). Now sand secured in truck head back to MEGA via an epic detour. Back in Christchurch the experiment and calculations were completed. Thanks for the really interesting EC series you have created. Fun and informative. (7/7 different types of cache in a day)

ROS was out and about on a sleety Dunedin day gathering samples and information for the Earthcaches in the area. He gathered up the required sample and then retreated to the warmth of the car.
Although we brought the necessary equipment with us we decided to take the sample home to complete the testing. but as the sample was in our hand luggage MAR thought it appropriate to advise the security man checking the bags that what he could possibly see in the bag was sand Surprised.
Yet another interesting experiment, logged with permission TFTC.

A sunny Saturday afternoon at Brighton, lots of swimmers, body borders, sun bathers and then me doing science! Had fun doing the cache, love the geological features of the beach. TFTC

3000th cache and quite a saga!

Camera fritzed upon arrival and the lack of scales--what to do? Take a kilo of Brighton's finest back to Wellington to conduct the experiment!

Really enjoyed the visit to this beach and the nearby 'Qui Amissis' cache.

A very memorial milestone!

While it was raining we collected sand from the beach, counted grains using a magnifying glass and took some pictures. Later we took the 1l can with the sand to a supermarket to weight it.
We had a lot of fun and collected interesting information about sand structure.
Thanks for placing the cache.

Showing Yankiwi TB and World Ploughing Geocoin the view of Brighton Beach. There was a wedding in progress on the rock, a sealion basking and heaps of swimmers, but no-one with scales and a hand-lens!

A fun EC and a beautiful day to do it. Not too many muggles about to stare at me!

Every time I visit Brighton Beach I wonder why I don't come here more often...

12-Sep-10
Lovely day to be at the beach, however, the sand was very wet after overnight rain, and I took plenty more home to dry out and compare the wet result with the dry!
TFTC, felt a bit of an idiot as I was keenly observed by muggles, however, I tried to look as scientific as possible!

This was the only cache I was allowed to stop at on the way home from walking, and that was only because:
1) The Brighton Dairy does nice icecreams
2) stegan's earthcaches are Educational and therefore Good for You
3) Vicky and Caro love watching other people do idiotic things in public.

Ended up taking some sand home and looking at it more closely- it wasn't quite what I expected.

07-May-10
TFTEC really enjoyed this one lovely warm day and no muggles on the beach which was good as we felt funny walking down with magnifying glass and kitchen scales and jug, but we did it and it was good

Fortunately the beach was almost deserted so there was nobody to see the mad scientists carrying out their experiment. A further increase in our knowledge of sand. TFTC

There I were again on a beach with some Geo equipment!!! No one on the beach today. Learn something new again with this cache. TFTC.

16-Apr-10
Yes we came and had a play in the sand on a nice morning at low tide. Brought a bit of gear to examine the sand. Neat to learn a little more about the local coastal topography, thanks for the lesson. TFTC

FTF. No-one about at Brighton beach today. Grey sort of a day being the reason no doubt. Just as well as I'm sure witnesses would have assumed I was potty as I weighed my sand and carefully examined it with a magnifying glass. Photos posted and email sent.

13-Apr-10
Oh dear we won't be FTF for this one as we are in Palmerston North. Maybe that is part of the master plan Stegan?

12-Apr-10
Ouch... No, the master plan is one per month, aiming for the school holidays or long weekends where possible
