Our last day in Wellington. Sunny day, nice caches. Greetings from Finland Thank you for this nice cache.

18-Mar-24
We (raija485 and I) have few days to search geocaches and explore the city at the same time. As for the weather, it's really nice to be here and move around (as long it's not raining). Thanks for the cache and greetings from Finland!

Having had to catch a flight from Hamilton at a ridiculously early time this morning, I decided to make the most of having plenty of time and a nice calm Wellington day to do some caching. This was the first stop. A nice straight forward multi and a quick find of a nicely constructed cache at GZ.Thanks for setting this up

I needed to drop some family members to the airport today which gave me a chance to look for some caches over this side of Wellington and make a start on this month's wheel of challenges. An nice, informative multi. I appreciated the clear wording which made it easy to calculate the coordinates for the final. A quick find of the great cache just as it was starting to rain. TFTC

Out and about with Flowerydaze and what a lovely day it was too. We attended the event earlier in the day held near Parliament by our Dutch visitors. We would never have known about this famous man if it was not for geocaching and boxhill. Tricky little hide which only came to light thanks to the hint which FD was onto. TFTC boxhill

11-Mar-23
An interesting plaque which I would not have noticed if it weren't for this multi. Talla64 and I quickly worked out some co-ords and were off to GZ for the cache. We spent a few minutes having a look then I thought about it a bit more, made a suggestion to Talla, and next thing we had the cache in hand. Nice one boxhill; thanks for the history of this amazing man and for the great hide. FP awarded.

MY FIRST MULTI-CACHE!!!!! WOOHOO!!!

I was driving around Lyall Bay Parade last night when I noticed something unusual at the airport. It was a plain white tail from a large unbranded aircraft. Intrigued, I drove towards the airport to investigate. From a distance I could see this plane was significantly larger than the common Airbus a320's and Boeing 737's so I was interested in finding out more about it. The mystery plane was a Boeing 767 registered in South Africa. Apparently an American rock band called Guns N' Roses is playing in town.

Since I was in the area, I decided to have a crack at my first multi-cache. I was able to very quickly determine the final co-ordinates using the info from the cache page and the plaque. I drove to the final spot and parked up to begin searching. I was a bit bewildered at first but, as the hint suggests, I thought about it and then very quickly had the cache in hand. All I had to do now was sign the logbook. Blast, I don't have a pen on me. Oh well, suppose I'll have to come back some other day.

Fast forwards to tonight and armed with pen in hand, quickly went back to the cache and signed the log sheet. I signed the sheet as 'Pag' as I ran out of space on my line. Cache is all in good order.

I decided to swing back by the airport again to see if the 767 was still there and, sure enough, it was. Amazingly though, there was also a Boeing 737 from the US government and a Boeing 787 from Vietnam Airlines. A really unique trifecta of planes at Wellington Airport.

Staying in Wellington for the weekend. Mrs Rubbishparty thought we were here for Christmas cashing (shopping) and Mr Rubbishparty thought it was Christmas caching. The joys of marriage. In the end we did both. No problems collecting the information. Great final hide in keeping with the theme. Happy to add to the favourites. Thanks for the smiley

An easily answered cache and off we went to marked coordinates. Nice hide! Signed log and replaced where found. TFTC.

Love these tricky hides. Really enjoy discovering more streets in Wellington. Tftc

18-Sep-22
Interesting multi. It's funny how we don't often stop to read plaques in such well used areas. Great facts to find and a final not far away with a great boxhill hide. Has to stop and put the boxhill thinking cap on. Fun as always thanks boxhill.

05-Aug-22
Straight forward multi learning about an interesting guy. And loved the hide! Giving it an FP. TFTC

I solved, visited GZ, thought about it and found the cache. TFTC boxhill.
A great cache about an important pioneering New Zealand and now I know why there is George Bolt Drive is the main road at Auckland International Airport. On further reading I discovered his son is also a pilot and eventually the Chief of the Defence Staff. He was regarded as the Father of the Air Force.

22-Sep-21
This was a amazing aviator who I was not aware in our history. Appropriate location the final cache.

07-Aug-21
Am now moving onto Multi's to gain the most points for the 'Reach the Peak' souvenir series this month. A fun clever hide to get started on. I must bring my nephew back here to plane spot. TFTC.

19-Jul-21
A nice quick find thanks. Numbers quickly determined and GZ determined. Then a bit of a head scratch, and then the light bulb moment. Nice. Fav Point here.

Ms_KR and I are up in the lower North Island, fulfilling lots of items on our wish list. Today was a cruise around Wellington, ending up at the airport for the flight home. What a lovely break away.

Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

Nice cache... Couple of planes landed while we were hunting! And they were flapping their wings in the wind

16-Oct-20
I was at the first waypoint for this one last year when I was down at a course at Life Flight. I’m down at a wedding this weekend and have just completed it and picked it up. A great multi and location for the final. TFTC

09-Sep-20
Wow, the wind is impressive. Solved last time I was here. Back for work again, so found this trip. Fav point. Signed as KTNZ

28-Aug-20
Did this one over the course of a couple days. First day at the plaque, second at the GZ. Amazingly hidden and really opened my eyes to what I am looking for when it comes to looking for caches. TFTC

09-Aug-20
Took us far too long but once we found it felt a bit dumb, then we were attacked by a moth! The Joy's of night caching! Tftc

09-Aug-20
Went looking in the dark for it in the wrong place, the airport security are probably suspicious of us now. Finally found it just as we were giving up. TFTC

09-Jul-20
After recently "discovering" several boxhill multis by accident I thought I'd explicitly look to see what else there was that might be around. This looked interesting even if the location looked like it wouldn't be. On a rare evening visit to Wellington I sorted out the location of the final and was decidedly unenthusiastic about it. But I went for a look anyway. I didn't feel comfortable flashing a torch around so had a go at doing it nearly blind. I had a pretty good idea of what I might be looking for and after a couple of minutes I found it more or less by touch alone. I retreated to the car some 50m away to open and sign. I was slightly surprised to find a near-empty log but the recent maintenance explains that. All in excellent condition. I have mixed feelings about these clever hides in exposed urban areas and generally avoid them nowadays. Unless it's a boxhill hide then the pros start to outweigh the cons. I can't quite bring myself to give this an FP because of the location but because it didn't give me too much trouble at least I enjoyed it. TFTC.

15-May-20
I worked out the location of GZ during lockdown, nice to be able to come back and find it now restrictions have been lifted! A clever hiding place, needed some thought, during which I briefly attracted the attention of airport security. They soon moved on to more important matters. Cache all safe and sound. TFTC!

18-Mar-20
Replaced the log sheet this afternoon.

01-Mar-20
Log is pretty full, but found a spot.

19-Dec-19
An unplanned trip to Wellington for work today. Thankfully that what needed to be done was done quicker than I’d envisaged so I had a couple of hours spare before my flight back to Nelson. So waddya do with a couple of hours spare and a hire car? Caching of course...

Whether it’s because I have an aviation fanatic for a son or not, George Bolt’s name is somewhat familiar but I was still able to learn a thing or two from this multi.

Numbers crunched, I was able to spare just enough time to track down the cache at the GZ before needing to drop the hire car off.

Approaching the GZ I wondered if the hint might mean what I hoped it might; it did and a quick find was had.

Back in Nelson we have our own Bolt Road names after George and his own tribute utility box art to boot.

Quick solve with Kelly. Drove to spot and hunted for a bit. Then she said "it's a boxhill" and I straight away saw it

While being oggled by the neighbour, we found this with out too much thought. The clue came to mind once we had the cache in hand.

Logbook now pretty much full

Nice little multi and took me around the airport I used to work at. Seen this type of cache hides a few times during the last few weeks while in Wellington for the WENZ event. Thanks boxhill for another good hide.

20-Oct-18
Solved the final location a while ago. Went out very early this morning to quickly grab three different cache types close to home before I head to the WENZ Mega later today - with a goal of at least 10 different cache types.
Quick find, log is almost full. +FP

In Wellington for the Mega. Day #1 of our geocaching adventure and soon had the numbers we needed for the final. A nice quick find with Gadget169. TFTC

Visited this one today, no trouble calculating the requirements and headed of to find the prize. Spent some time searching before engaging brain to figure out the hide. Nice. All good here. TFTC

04-Jun-18
Was in the hood and noted that this was the only unfounded cache in the immediate vicinity. I just had to fix that... quick solve and find, it all came together nicely at the end, and even spotted the A350 that’s here for some testing. Not that I’m any sort of plane spotter. TFTC

13-Apr-18
Each time I've come to Wellington I have looked at the cache and dismissed it as due to it being a multi. I lived in Auckland for ten years and knew nothing about who the road to the airport was named after. The check sum was useful and ensured I headed in the correct direction. The hint making sense only after I found the cache.
Thank you for setting this up. On to the next, feet not too sore yet.

Quick and simple multi. Recognisable name too. GLB1721 TFTC (4208)

19-Nov-17
Gathered the information last week while waiting next door for Wicm Jnr to finish his flying lesson. Was back at this side of town today for a pick up, so stopped in to complete the find. Knowing the CO's favourite type of hide made this a very quick find (once I found the right street!) TFTC

Came to the nearby Warehouse to get a gift for our hosts (our niece and her family) for dinner tonight and saw this multi nearby. Gar wasn't keen for me to get the right coordinates but it didn't take too long but no time before the dinner to go for the final. So we went past GZ on the way back to our motel in Upper Hutt. THe GPSr insisted that GZ was a bit away but then I clicked and very quickly had the cache in hand. Angling my phone torch for light and hunching over I managed to sign the log without it getting wet or blown off (just). Nice multi and nice camo boxhill! FP from us.

04-May-17
Did the necessary calculation and a short walk had me there. Loved the hint. Tftc

Well done.

In town for the Wellington Swimming Championships meet that one of the Jr. Cachers was competing in and there was plenty of time for some caching too.

Grabbed the required information while the others were shopping nearby and soon had the final coordinates calculated. Headed off to GZ and spotted something in keeping with the theme that was indeed the clever hide. Thanks for the multi boxhill.

16-Nov-16
Did the maths then walked to final before flight home. Thanks

Interesting final spot. found after a short search. nice easy little multi. Day two of our road trip with jordiporsche from hawkes bay to welly and return. Log signed as b&p.Tftc boxhill. Find # 3238

04-Oct-16
An interesting multi. Love how the whole cache all connects. Log book has very little room so just signed initials. TFTC Smile

03-Oct-16
Came down here on a lovely cool, crisp, calm but foggy evening. Solved the final location earlier in the day but unfortunately didn't have any time to find it then. Returened, and after a couple of minutes searching, I found it. Retrieved the cache and returned to the car to sign the log. Main logbook is full so signed my name on the sheet placed in there by a previous cacher. A muggle walking his dog showed up just before I returned the cache but he left the area after a few minutes. A very cool little hide. TFTC.

17-Aug-16
Sweet clever little multi, thanks!

14-Aug-16
Found for this weekend's HQ Mission challenge. Also found in memory of my Gramps who died on 14 August 1989 and served with the RAF during World War 2. TFTC.

05-Aug-16
I'd tried to solve this one a few months ago by just looking at info on internet but as it was my first attempt at a multi I wasn't quite sure what I was doing and I never found the time to hunt for the final until now. Supernanny and I were hunting around Lyall Bay and the airport and decided to do this one from scratch. It didn't take long and despite a very wet day we enjoyed finding this one - great cache hide/container and good hint. Thank you!!

05-Aug-16
Was in area today with BrooklynKat ...
Hadn't expected to do a multi during my brief holiday.
But this looked pretty do- able!
With a team effort we came up with some co ords !
So worth it...the final cache is in an amazing camo !
Favourite Point from me !
Thanks boxhill !

24-Jul-16
Very cool cache info and neat final location. TFTC!

24-Jun-16
#57. My first multi! Smile Great cache, within sight of my home (in the distance!). The log was full, so I added a spare mini-log to keep it going. Good hide too. TFTC!

09-Jun-16
Stopped in at the nearby shops and noticed this multi in the vicinity... couldn't resist. Interesting history and a very appropriate final! TFTC

04-Jun-16
Love the hide. Log book is very full. TFTC

27-May-16
Easy find.

27-May-16
Needs new log. Pretty full.

08-May-16
Log sheet is full! I managed to squeeze my initials onto the last little patch but it will need replacing. TFTC

11-Apr-16
Finding the plaque and working out the numbers didn't take long. Then we spotted the viewing area for the airport and spent about half an hour watching the planes come and go. Then onto the final where we spent a couple of minutes scratching our heads as we thought about where . . . . it wasn't until I read out the title of the cache that the penny dropped and the cleverly disguised hide was spied. Found with Aoraki Sheep.

11-Apr-16
The highlight of this cache has to be watching the planes at the nearby viewing place. We do not have many planes at our airport, and not ones so big. Then onto the final and we thought we might have gotten our numbers wrong because nothing obvious was to be seen. Clever hide! Found with debsnz

01-Apr-16
Great hint, walked around in circles for bit until we worked it out.

11-Mar-16
I made quick work of the numbers and had a chuckle at the final location. A nice multi, thanks very much. The logbook is almost full.

01-Mar-16
I'd worked the numbers for this a few days ago but had to abandon it at the final because some locals were sitting out enjoying the sun. There was nobody about today, and the cache is easy to find once you realise the significance of the title. TFTC Smile

07-Feb-16
First multi cache and loved it thanks!!

20-Jan-16
Found it- fabulous hide!

20-Jan-16
Found it with Jubey01, who thought about it best!

02-Jan-16
Found this one earlier in the year but must have forgotten to log. T4T$

17-Oct-15
Papa Bear tried to solve this first but after getting the wrong co-ords we had to return to the first way point and re work the numbers, after Mama bear pointed the error of his ways it was then a quick trip off to GZ where the cache was soon in hand. Tftc

30-Sep-15
Second multi today. Great spot! Tftc

21-Sep-15
Very nicely done! Today, I had a parcel to pick up from DHL, so, from the comfort of my lounge, I looked for caches close to the airport - not realizing just how awful the weather was. Truly - the sky was blue one minute, then overcast the next; the sun was shining, then it was raining. And the wind! Let's not even go there. All I can say is I'm mighty glad I wasn't flying today. Anyway, my plan to combine Plane Spotting near Moa Point with a dog walk was quickly shelved, but I still needed to get the pooches out and about before work. Fortunately I'd determined the new coordinates for George Bolt more than a year ago, but I'd never got around to finding the cache. While GZ wasn't exactly sheltered, it was a whole lot less blustery than the other side of the airport! Weirdly, my (iPhone) compass got stuck at 14 metres - it just wouldn't budge. But I had a good idea of what I was looking for, and the find was - thankfully - quick. It was back to the geomobile to sign the log, then (reluctantly) I got back out to return the container to its hidey-hole. Then it was straight home for a cup of hot tea. TFTC!

10-Sep-15
Just a couple of days behind skaga. Thanks for placing the cache.

06-Sep-15
#1875 Last find for the day before Aga had to go to work with the car. Did some workings and then ventured off to find the final. Nice easy find to round off the day, TFTC!

31-Aug-15
Nice one! I had a couple of hours between flights so decided to see if I could get to a couple of caches within walking distance of the airport. This was the second one I came to. Well this is what caching is about really. Taking a person to an interesting place that they wouldn't have visited otherwise. Gathered the information and appreciated the checksums as the final location looked like it was a bit further from WP1 than I had expected. At least it was off in sort of the right direction for me to walk back to the airport. Very appropriate hide indeed. TFTC, Biggles.

19-Jul-15
An excellent cache. Found with CanuckNZ. TFTC Smile

19-Jul-15
Thanks for a very interesting cache. Beautiful Wellington day even if the southerly was cold.

07-Jun-15
Had some jobs to do near this one so checked out inbetween. Located cache quickly once at GZ. Tftc

07-Jun-15
Had to to a bit of shopping and spotted this one nearby. Really enjoyed the final location and hide. Tftc!

17-May-15
Great little afternoon activity to do with a couple of flatmates after watching the surfers. Had to duck into the nearby Warehouse to get a pen - d'oh! Final cache was what I thought it might be as we approached GZ. TFTC!
