Over a year since the last find and DNF logs by two very experienced cachers - red flag! Went for an enjoyable walk this morning to visit, and after a bit of a look around I found the cache less than a metre from where it should be, in excellent condition. It had crept too close to the path for my liking and got a bit buried. The original spot was no longer the best because of vegetation growth, so I have relocated it about 3 metres away and a bit further from the path. Made a slight tweak to the coordinates and a change in the hint. Replaced the container with a new, better labelled and more waterproof one and transferred the contents - not that there was anything wrong with the previous one but I had the new one with me anyway. All good to go - happy caching!
I wanted to find a cache today, simply to get my total finds for January 16th to 4 in total to help with a particular Challenge Cache in Nelson. Having recently solved a few local puzzles to add to a few done quite some time ago, I've also been eying up taking a walk along this track having never done so before. So today I decided to bite the bullet and doing both by coming out to look for some caches. How many would depend on if I was feeling good then I'd carry on walking a bit further. In the end I was enjoying the walk so much I did 9 caches and about 8km of walking. I do love these long summer evenings for doing stuff like this This would be my only DNF for today. A wonderful place to visit, but after 10-15 minutes of searching as per the Hint, and then wider, I had to leave empty handed. If the cache is still a 1Lt Sistema then it's either buried more than it should be or else gonnaburger!
Failed to find this, contrary to others’ quick successes. Tried the hint, the coords, elimination… great view though.
Never walked along the Ridge track before, although I knew of it and wanted to walk it some time. Didn't have time for the full walk today, but really enjoyed the part that I did, very peaceful and pretty along the top. Nice view from here. Cache was a quick easy find. TFTC
View was a bit hazy today but nice all the same. Everything in order in the box too,a nice spot I might have gone past otherwise. Thanks for the detour!
A worthwhile detour as the regenerating bush is now hiding the views from the track (at least for the half of the track we did). The very detailed hint was overkill as the cache was exposed so I tried to give it a little cover.
The ridge track has been on my radar for a long time, and the opportunity finally came today. Teamed up with allepousse and Borrowers_Again to complete the walk. Really enjoyed the beech forest and makuka stands along the ridge.

Took me a few minutes to find - perhaps relied too much on the hint or misinterpreted it or something. Had to resort to a methodical search, and turned it up after a short while. I only took a quick look at the view - I'm out of time for today and there some more caches a short distance up the track that are crying out to be found!
Another quick find today as the cache was totally uncovered in its correct spot. Nice and dry inside and we covered it with some vegetation to make it a bit less obvious to non-geocachers.
Great view from here, in fact the best view we saw today.

When I approached this cache I was concerned about it pointing me 20m into the bush. But it turned out there is a path not shown on my GPS and after a bit of exploring I found the (signposted) access and the GPS started counting down the distance more reassuringly. Dead accurate coords led me straight to the cache. Well not exactly, I went to check out the view first *then* the GPS took me directly to the cache.
It seems this CO has a knack of adopting many caches at some of the best locations in the region. This is certainly the best place for a cache along the ridge and the view is great. Thanks for maintaining this.

Amazing view over the Hutt Valley from here, just a bit of an uphill climb to reach it!!! We were really lucky with the weather, similar photos to the one shown Feeling really unfit after the walk, but the view was definitely worth it. TFTC
#5329. After attending the Australia event in the city, I headed back home and we had an early lunch and then headed out to Kaitoke. The aim was to pick up a series of caches along the Ridgeline Track, mainly traditional caches but a few mystery finals as well. Mrs GSEL and daughter No.1 brought books and a blanket so they could relax for a few hours at Rivendell awaiting our arrival. Very warm weather again today (high 20s) and light winds made for a very hot climb up the hill. The track was very dry today. My 9-year-old daughter surprised me by deciding to join me on the hike. We stopped early to grab a feed of blackberries. The bushes on the lower slopes are groaning with ripe fruit at present. Anyone local should be up there now.
Slight detour off the main path here but a great view. The heat was starting to get to Miss L but a cool drink soon got her energy levels back up again. I hunted around for the cache and eventually found it a bit further back than I was expecting. Signed the log and replaced the cache as found. Thanks agcnz for the cache.

Definitely a good view from here Nice one And just at the right time for lunch Very convenient thanks Easy recovery A long tailed cuckoo is making plenty of noise nearby Poor whiteheads will have their work cut out TFTC
A quick find on the track from Te Marua to Kaitoke with Yeetrees. A lovely day for a walk in the park. All in order. TFTC

The party was waiting at the junction to make sure that we all knew to head up to the lookout. What a great view, even if it was overcast. TFTC
Helen was the star on this one. Found with ten other members of Tararua Tramping Club on a 'learn about geocaching' tramp. Traversed the ridge track, picked up nine caches, and enthused some new cachers. Lucky to have the expertise of Bruzie on the day and TheFerrett as co-leader of the trip. TFTC
Thought I had better get put before the rain tomorrow tftc nice quick find all lovely and dry. Stunning views. Have not been here since I was a kid BEFORE THE TWIN LAKES EXISTED haha
#6564. A nice hike in Kaitoke Regional Park. Started from Pakuratahi Forks, taking the Pakuratahi River Walk and Ridge Track, returning the same way. It was good to see a few board walks being placed on some of the muddier parts of Ridge Track up the top. Other than at the car park, did not come across any one on the tracks. So all quiet. Great views from Upper Valley Lookout. Quick find. The cache was in good condition, but unfortunately Boomerang! was not in the cache. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log. Thanks for the cache.
Out to do the ridge track there and back this morning. Took quite a while here - GPS pointing everywhere. Steve found it eventually right where it was supposed to be. Thanks for the hide.
Sunday caching. Beautiful spring day, no wind. Kaitoke - Pakuratahi. Hard to imagine it could get better than this. After a quick whip around the swing bridge track we launched an attack on the ridge track. A bit of a walk along the ridge, with the track pretty boggy in places, and we arrived here at GZ. We did quite a search and came up empty handed - that concerned us, especially reading recent logs and observing some DNF activity. So, enjoyed the view and enjoyed lunch. Once refreshed and refuelled we resumed the looking. We were relieved to then make a find soon after. Cache in order, log signed; all then safely re-hidden, just as found.
We think the compass direction clue is probably not as helpful as it could be. An E or W clue would be more helpful in MHO. Our GPSr had us looking in the wrong place, but sometimes that is operator error! So wouldn't go so far as to say that the coordinates could possibly be helpfully reviewed. But it might be an idea.
First time on this track and we were enjoying the views and the bush. It's a good one.
TFTC found with team cacher Sweet P too
The Turtle strikes again!

Thanks Tararua Turtle for the comments on the hint. I agree that the indicated direction in the hint is confusing so have modified the hint slightly. Hope that improves things for subsequent finders!
#610 Second time is a charm. And it was in a place I didnt look last time. No sign of Boomerang Trackable though.
Three of us searched the obvious locations for 10 Mins before giving up. could well be there, we were tired by this point! View great though.
With Hellen. We were a bit short of time, since we were running out of daylight, but it wasn't anywhere obvious.
Found while accompanying a school group along the Ridge track. This lookout is well worth the short detour. A couple of the students got interested and helped me search, but in the end I spotted it as described. Thanks agcnz!
Couldnt find this one, but doesnt mean it aint there. Just wasnt in the obvious places indicated by the clue.
Thank agcnz for replacing the cache. Easy found, exactly where the hint indicates.
Love the view from here.
Thanks again

Visited the cache this morning and, as expected, it had gone. Now replaced with new 1-litre Sistema container with logbook, information sheet, pencil and pen. Checked coordinates, they're good.
Checked the entire area 1.5m either side of the track between 3 and 8m from the bench, including the bits you can't get to from the track.
me thinks this has been muggled 20 mins on the spot should have come up trumps if the cache was still there......
Never mind - it isn't the only one - "Time fore a rest" is in the same boat
I will certainly revisit once CO advises all is back in order.

Disabled until I can get up there to put a new one in place. Looking at recent logs I think I know what might have happened to this one, same would probably apply to "Time for a Rest" back along the track. Thanks wbond1116 for the heads-up!
Manged to get a quick glimpse of the lakes between passing clouds, a great outlook for sure. Struggled a bit finding the cache so went to take a seat for a break and spotted it straight away! Looks like it has been moved about 6m closer to the hint reference point. Lots of muggle entries in the log but it seems they like the idea of geocaching, and the cache remains secure and in good condition.

Found on a Club ramble from Twin Lakes through to Kaitoke. Very dry under foot and all the boggy bits have gone. TFTC
No trouble finding the cache using the well written hints. Ridge completed without any sign of mud what a change.
Walked in from the southern end today. We can remember visiting the lookout before the southern part of the track had been built, this was the end of the track from the northern end back then. Over the years the track has become progressively muddier, more so on every trip. No problems finding the cache from the hint plus previous log entries. The 'some bush' is a kamahi .
Not-so-quick find. GPS all a-wandering. Checked the clues, and a small amount of confusion reigned, before finding the likely spot. Found on a solo trek along the Ridge Track, doing a recce for a scout tramp in a couple of weeks.
Weather warm and sunny (at this point) , but rain & hail were just around the corner with a sudden turn of weather. Was well prepared ... but that's Wellington (or New Zealand) weather for ya!

Find #1249. Heading in a southerly direction after completing Tussock Knob, the gentle downhill walk was easy apart from the large mires of mud which did slow the journey. There had obviously been a substantial amount of rain in the previous 24 hours as the “tide” marks on the puddles indicated. Walking closer and closer to the cache, the track only became more muddy. So it was pleasing to see some newly delivered board walks on the side of the track awaiting installation.
Quickly arrived at the view point and briefly enjoyed the vista with the weather south not looking too bad. Paced the 7 metres back along the track but questioned the side it was on as the hint did not agree with my eventual find. The cache was very muddy on the outside but good and dry inside. Signed the log, took a photo and headed back to Tussock Knob. SL TFTC.

Also foun this one on my way on the ridge today, had to search a little bit. Great views, really worth the walk uphill. TFTC. Sherlock Hood.
Quite thick snow in places along the top from the Kaitoke end and ours were the first footsteps through that section since the snowfall. Made walking along the narrow boardwalk interesting as we couldn't see the sides. However, the snow was thick enough to cushion the slips when we misjudged the edge. Lovely view from here. TFTC
Enjoyed the walk up to this one, although it is quite boggy up here at the moment! Seemed to have the track almost to myself today, spotting only one other group of muggles on my wander. Tracked the cache down no problems and enjoyed the view while signing the log. TFTC!
Just looking for the cache when some muggles turned up. Had a quick chat and waited for them to leave, then resumed our hunt. Had lunch afterwards in a small grassy clearing nearby. Excellent day out. TFTC
After doing the cache at the south end of this track it was time to go to the next one, after a short walk though the muddy and slippery track I finally got to the junction to GZ. Taking the detour and then after a few minutes finally got to GZ, was really blown away with the view at GZ as I really didn't know that this spot was here and it was really a stunning view of the valley below, managed to find the cache after a short search and the hide it back where I found it before taking a last chance to see where I have being before moving on, thanks for bringing me up here to this lovely spot, TFTC TNLNSL (3283)
A beautiful view on a gorgeous day. Was briefly muggled by 2 guys who stopped to admire the view and count distant pylons...? Hmmmm Took sundial GC. TFTC!
Found it on an amazing day with little difficulty. Great hide and wonderful view. Stopped for lunch and had the area to ourselves. Thanks for a good hide.
[417] The weather set in a bit by the time we got to the lookout but the views shrouded in cloud were still worth the hike - Thanks for the reason for the excursion Petriez!
Found with tmann421 and Hugo the dog. Was pleased to push myself for the climb and views were great when you could see them. Should have taken the chainsaw and trimmed a few of those trees! SL, TFTC.
Very nice walk along the track to this cache, which was soon found. Lots of mud and slippery areas, but generally good fun! Good to get some view from cache location. SL TFTC
Walked up here with yollomdr and kiwibobby.
Found without any trouble
The views up here are lovely. And the weather was perfect weather too.

A great spot for a cache. Thanks for getting us out to this spot, today was a fantastic day for a walk in the bush, the lakes were like mirrors. Though it was still pretty cold out of the sun.

A few years have passed since I first walked this track. It was good to have an excuse to do it a second time. It was a bit muddly and puddly today, but I enjoyed it anyway. A lot more effort was needed to get to this cache location than the one I drove to yesterday: Cosy Place.
Walked in from the Te Marua end of the track, I did this cache on the return trip after walking to ‘Tussock Knob’, 10.8k in just on 2hr 55min for the round trip. Supper spot for a cache. Even with the weather being somewhat overcast the view was still worth the effort to get here. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Great to walk another track I haven’t been on before. TNLN SL1013hr TFTC
Thoroughly enjoyed walk along the ridge. King was still running free. Visited on a nice sunny day. Added a TB.
Stopped here for lunch after a fast walk up from the Te Marua Lakes end of the track, and returned the same way as that was where my vehicle was parked. A quick find although on the opposite site of the track from that indicated in the hint - I think the hint may be wrong. Definitely the best view of the Upper Hutt and Mangaroa Valley regions that I have experienced. Took Humboldt GC, signed log, TFTC and for giving me the excuse for some great exercise.
whooo hoo 2nd to find, dropped off GC and took a photo, every one else should take a photo anfd post it as well.
FTF.A great view from this cache but a hell of a climb to get to it.Though not as tough as tussock knob.Again thanks for excuse to come up here.
