I have been planning this trip for a while now as I had some airpoints due to expire and wanted to go somewhere for Wellington Anniversary Weekend. So I've made it a 4 day weekend and come down from Palmerston North for a caching road trip. I have two goals for this weekend, to get to 2500 caches before 23 January as that is when I took up caching last year and to get caches on as many latitude minutes as possible that will hopefully qualify me for a challenge cache in the Manawatu. This is day 2 - Oamaru - Palmerston - Ashburton.

I haven't been to Oamaru and the surrounding area for five years and it doesn't look like it has changed much. Such a pretty town, full of history

Out bright and early for a quick run down to Palmerston. Not sure about the logic about this hiding spot as the is not very good parking and yet a perfectly good rest area is just north of this. Anyway, cache was quickly in hand here. Tftc

Heading south for a wee family holiday. Family caught a cheap early flight down to Dunedin this morning...and will spend the day exploring Dunedin attractions...whilst I drive down to meet them...and find a cache or two along the way!
Just out of sight of the coffee cart in the layby.....quick find and sign. Cheers.

Hello Local Geocachers,

#Queenstown#
We are from **far far away**, i mean the *other* side of the world. We came here in this area for our Holiday Smile. We have seen our daughter who is here living for a year in **Queenstown** *(in 2017 April or Mei, she went back to The Netherlands)*. We stayed in the direct area of her in Queenstown for a few days.

#Travelling with a Campervan#
After that we have hired a campervan and explore the south island of new Zealand for its very nice Nature. Our Campervan is picked up at **Queenstown**, nearby the airport of Queenstown. It's a nice van and it drives fine. Everything is OK with the camper and i learned left driving very fast, it's not a problem for me Smile.

The quantity of people at a square kilometer is less then in The Netherlands. During our journey we don't see much peaple but enjoyed the nature as well.

Thanks a lot for placing and maintaining this cache in New Zealand.

Hevic and I spent the day exploring the northern part of Otago. Cache #1 of 23 was a fairly easy find, once we'd battled through the scrub and the GPSrs not giving us good enough readings. We approached this one from below for a bit of extra fun (and a slight bit of safety) but returned on the high road. Cheers!

30-Oct-15
Long time dream came true and we could visit New Zealand. NZ Mega was our maingoal and we had time to find others too. We travelled together with Veke68, Katsukka and tanjuli (+husband) and had great time. We used TVVK Fin (that is tanjuli, vipema, Veke68 and Katsukka) in mostly logbooks to save space.

Thanks for the cache.

Greetings from Finland.

Thank you!!!!

Tftc. Found it but couldn't get it free to sign the log. Maybe needs smaller hands? I agree, the hint is not quite the best way to pinpoint the cache, but a good look around will do the trick. A 'hole' Lotta fun!

We are staying at Rakaia Gorge this week, and we decided to spend a day travelling south so we could complete 2 Auckland challenge caches. For the 'So Far Away Challenge' we needed to find 10 caches that are 1000km or more from home. And for our Full Geocaching Licence we needed to find 50 caches in a day that are at least 1km apart. We have also been wanting to visit Moeraki Boulders (which also happens to be 1001 kms from home), so we had to time our trip around the tides. The 8.30am low tide meant we had to leave very early to travel 220kms from Rakaia Gorge to Moeraki , then find at least 10 caches further south before caching our way back north.
We had a very enjoyable day exploring further south than we have travelled before, clocking up close to 500kms, finding 69 caches along the way, and achieving both the challenge cache goals we had set.

This Games People Play cache took us a while to find - nearly a DNF for us. Well-hidden by a beautiful beach.

Thanks for your part in helping make our day so much fun.

DNF: No luck for us today was in the area with Mrs Yeetrees doing a trip around Central Otago and picking up a few caches along the way, saw this one on our GPS and decided to give it a go. Managed to find a park near GZ and it was a short walk to GZ, managed to find GZ without any issues, had a good look around with Mrs Yeetrees but couldn't find the cache and had to give up in the end we decided to give up will try again when passing but no luck today, nice views along the coastline from the parking area, thanks for bringing us here.

5979. Spent ages searching here the last time we passed through. This time we weren't going to stay long so luckily we had it quickly in hand. A nice hiding place but not where we expected it to be. Our second stop for the morning on our way back to Oamaru from Moeraki via Palmerston!!! We have to find 23 caches today to get our 6000. There appear to be heaps around Palmerston so we should make it easily now! Thanks for the cache. Rodney and Iris.

I had looked for this one previously but with no success, so I was determined to get it this time. The clue of pine needles had me off in the wrong direction and it was only after a thorough search did I find the devil..... not really at ground level and certainly no pine needles involved. Certainly a challenge.

17-Aug-13
An easy find once I decided to look for places I would hide a cache.

01-Mar-13
It could be anywhere, but it's not; It's where it should be. Just stop and think for a second about where you want to start your search and you should see it.
Don't worry about the hint. R.

Helen & Brians Wedding in Middle Earth

Day Two: Wedding Bells

#2911
So you've just got married on a cliff beside a lighthouse, bid fond farewells to your family members at the beach, now what are you going to do on an overcast and blustery thursday in New Zealand? Go caching of course!!!
My first caching trip with HnB as a married couple.

Both perplexed by the gps pointing down to the beach - surely not. A quick read of the clue and a widened search and voila! Another one chalked up for Helen.
A truckdriver was a bit peeved at Brian parking in the layby entrance but he had plenty of room and of course he knew that his horn still worked.

Thanks for placing the cache.
