I had an extended Labour Weekend down in Otago and today went for a drive out to the Otago Peninsula, an area that I've always enjoyed. Decided to check out Sandfly Bay, which was a stunning place to visit on a beautiful morning with several sea lions down on the beach. I stopped to look for a cache at this lookout and found 2 containers there! Checking the log book (which was full) for this one, it was clearly a much older cache than the other cache there. So I did some investigation when I got home and worked out that it would be this cache! Fantastic view from here, shame this cache was archived, but at least there is another one there now. Giving it a favourite point, even though it is archived! TFTC!
The view and the beach are just beautiful! We've seen some sea lions at the beach. Gorgerous!
Thanks for showing!

Gevonden! Beautiful spot, although it was cold and windy. Our little ones loved the fur seals on the rocks. Unfortunately no penguins... Greetings from the Netherlands!

Found this cache on a wild and windy Otago day. Continued on to walk to the end of the beach and observe the sea lions.

Once in a lifetime we wanted to travel to the other side of the world. This year we took a chance and made a 4 weeks trip to New Zealand! Although caching was not the main purpose, we had our GPS prepared and when we were close to a cache, we of course looked for it and logged it. So we found several dozends of "kiwi-caches" and want to thank all the owners!!
In Dunedin we had a stay of 2 days and a list of several interesting caches to do. On our trip back from the penguins a closed road took us here. So we looked for this well-hidden cache. Fast find & log!
Thanks for showing this cool place!

We had planned to drive back to Dunedin via the high road. However, the road was closed and we ended here. Nothing to complain, we saw sea lions and a couple of penguins on the beach.

Nice place and we relaxed here for a while. team4ms (Marko, Martina, Maximilian and Marie)
One of the few times that I've been here and not seen any seals or penguins, or signs of them in the sand.
After viewing the sea lions and seals we also found that one. Beautiful place. TFTC
We admired the view and we saw some animals. The box was easely founded. Thanks for hiding
Found this one while we waited to see if any hoiho would turn up. No luck this evening.
That's alright though, we've just done the tour at the albatross centre. Fantastic!

Started to walk down but only got as far as this one. Cold and windy. Will come back a nicer day TFTC BH&TM
Mrs B was very pleased to hear the origin of the name Sandfly Bay when we set off on the walk from the car park. We went to the penguin viewing hide at the far end of the beach before returning here and quickly grabbing the cache in a muggle gap. Saw a sea lion asleep on the sand, a whole bunch of fur seals on the rocks at the far end of the beach and two yellow-eyed penguins as we got back to this end of the beach, so it was a great afternoon. TFTC
Hearing of Sandfly bay we were worried for sand flies, but were happy to hear it was named after flying sand instead of the annoying little creatures.

On holiday with my mom and sister.
Found the cache right away.
It's a bummer but due to time and temperature (cold). We couldn't go down to see the little blues.

Effectivement le sable vole mais l'endroit est magnifique. N'avons pas vu de pingouin à cet endroit.
When we walked down to the beach I already spotted the cache, but could not grab it because right in that moment muggles came up the path and rested there. So I gave it a try on our return. Then I had enough time to sign the logbook and drop a trackable.

This day was dedicated to the Otago Peninsula, and of course we also had to go to Sandfly Bay. We parked our car and started with this cache. The box was easily found, due to the good hint. What a nice view.
Thanks for the cache.

Rainy evening but not to search something with gps
No luck today with the penguins but we enjoyed a lot the views

Quite easily found before going down sandily.
Be aware that the hideout is also used be the DOC to store equipment.
And be so smart to remove your shoes and socks before descending to the flying sands beach.

Well last day down here in the deep south so that means a last trip to collect a few caches before heading back to book out of the motel.
Still its a few hours before it gets even remotely light so just a matter of working the plan to meet the requirements of the current GCLS stage that I am on and keep moving.
headed out here to grab the nearby Letterbox so seemed a shame to walk past this one. Fantastic views from up here
Thanks for the placement

Didn't wanted to spoil this cache, since DOC workers were repairing the walkway .. so we log it as DNF - thanks anyway

TFTC may not be able to walk tomorrow after this climb back up but well worth it.
After we spend the afternoon at Sandflybeach, KullerKeks90 and I could find this one in a quiet moment. TFTC
With shinichi87 at the sandfly bay. Amazing beach, we saw a few see lions on the beach. After our walk we found this cache very easy. Tftc
Found during my Otago peninsula walk. Unfortunately, there were no penguins at the beach. But one sea lion at least. Thank you.
We did the walking tour down the hills yesterday. It was really fun to surf the dunes by our own feed. Thanks for the nice view!
Thx for the cache. But it was very wet inside but the logbook was dry. Logbook is full. Found Travelbug HC0BHN. Left it and did not take it.
First day in Dunedin and I drive out from the city as soon as possible...
Spent the whole day out on the peninsula.
Found after I walked the beach. The climb back up was really hard!
Sorry for the late log. This is one of many founds during my four week visit to NZ.
The date here may differ from the one in the log book, both could be a day off from actual log date.

Found it during the early morning. We liked the cache, but not the place... It is so weird to put a hide on the other side of the beach and allow people to walk on this area to reach it. DOC wants to avoid wildlife disturbance but creates a perfect path to disturb every animal in the area. Don't forget that penguins see you from the water before you can see them and won't go to their chicks, or too late.
Thanks for the cache, and thanks for not putting it at the hide. Apparently, there is another way to go to the hide, from the mountain. Seems better to be used than this one.

Windy. Probably like every other day.

Wow, what a fabulous view! We retrieved the cache then had to wait while some muggles moved on. We had intended walking to the hide but halfway along the beach a hail storm hit - lightning and 2 waterspouts out at sea! We had to rapidly head back to the car and got soaked halfway back up the dune. Glad we stopped for this cache on the way as we would not have been stopping on the way back! Hope to return someday. Dropped Smurf TB. TFTC!
After raining the whole day the sun came out at the right time - perfect view here and of course we found this cache here.

Came here on a trip along the Peninsula during our short stay in Dunedin. Walked in from the end of Ridge Road - an easy hike to the beach but then I had to slog up the hill in "two steps forward, one backward" fashion through soft sand before I could get to the cache. Fortunately a quick find and the views from the viewing platform compensated for the effort in getting there. Getting down again was a breeze! Signed log, TFTC
Fast found at the view point to that great beach! But no time for swimming!

Just managed to sign the log in between muggles: lots of foot traffic out there today, in spite of the frequent downpours.
The way down is sooooo much easier than the way up...and no one tells you about all this sand. But still nice cache, thanks.
Didn't know if there was a cache here but figured there would be. A quick hunt and sure enough!
A friend of mine, living in Dunedin, took me around the city today and showed me all the nice spots. Stopped here and found this cache!
Tftc and greets from Germany!

Made the find between muggles. Always love coming to Sandfly Bay and running down the sand hills. Found with debsnz
A lot of muggles, even on an overcast winters day. Thought this an appropriate cache to leave a penguin TB. Found with Aoraki Sheep.
Awesome place where we encountered heaps of sea lions (some quite scary!) and even two penguins. We were really lucky to come to this spot. Thanks for that!
Out on the Otago Peninsula caching and in search of penguins with geogypsy!. Lots of great views from up here. Found 11 caches for the day and 1 yellow eyed penguin, about 150 blue penguins and a lot of sea lions.
Great day out!
TFTC!

Nice Place for a Cache - we've seen no sealion - thank you for this place - greetings from Hamburg Germany
The weather went to custard during my visit with Penangboy, probably a good thing making it possible to extract the cache unseen. Cheers
Not an entirely suitable day to find it, as it was raining. It took me awhile as I initially thought the location of the cache might be safer, than where it really is.
