Lulin-Girl is during 6 months at the university in Sydney and is looking around for nice places. Here it is beautiful! She is on this trip with her new friends from Australian. Thanks for laying out the cache and luring her to this great place.
TFTC and loved the different view of blue lake that otherwise I wouldnt have seen. Dropped off one TB that came from the beautiful coasts of Xiao Liu Qiu, Taiwan (huge sea turtles there).
What a fun day walking the Main Range Track! I wanted to get the highest point in Australia, but why stop with just an out and back hike to there when you could walk some extra miles for a gorgeous loop hike?! Well worth it, even though the last couple km of hiking was a bit brutal on my knees. Thanks for the cache! Truly a beautiful spot for one!
I started this walk with another lady, Stacey. It turns out she works for National Parks and Wildlife and she joined in the fun looking for the cache.Fabulous walk and perfect weather to be out and about exploring.TFTC TFTC
Found one my way up to an even older oldie! A short incline from the trail! Sweet area.
Just after Christmas in 2019 The Bromance were scheduled to complete a 3 day hike to visit the top 10 peaks in Kosciuszko National Park. At that stage I was already in Canberra visiting relatives and about to head off to Sydney to pick up my three compatriots from the airport when word came of the bush fires erupting in the Snowy Mountains. It was not long after that the dreaded news was announced that the park had been closed, ending any hopes of completing our walk. Dejectedly we made our way back home to Queensland. Thanks to Covid, border closures, injuries and operations it has taken another 4 years for the opportunity to arise to reprise our plans. After what has seemed an eternity, I finally left Brisbane Wednesday lunchtime for the long drive down to Canberra, and reached just north of Wollongong before finding a suitable place to stop and sleep in my car overnight. Next morning I was up before sunrise to visit some local caches before continuing the remainder of the drive to Canberra airport to rendezvous with the rest of my hiking group. From there we drove to Cooma to stay overnight before heading off this morning to Charlotte Pass to commence our long awaited hike.As we assembled in the car park we had to pinch ourselves to make sure we were finally here and the weather gods were indeed smiling on us with sunny skies and low winds. The fly gods were perhaps too generous, with swarms of flies accompany our journey and settling on us as we hiked up to the lake. Our pace of progress amongst the group was varied but finally we gathered at the start of the path for the walk down to the lake. Sadly we could proceed no closer than the lookout but that was close enough to take some wonderful photos of the area, with the lake colour looking magnificent with the clear sunny skies. While the rest of the group took a break to recover for the next stage of our walk, Crookedpete and I headed up the nearby hill to find this cache. Found the container safe and well and was chuffed to find the original logbook still in place - such a surprise for a super old cache like this! Pity it is so hard these days to place caches in scenic areas like this one. TFTC
Four years ago, a Bromance team adventure to hike Australia's highest 10 peaks was cancelled after bushfires devastated the Snowy Mountains (and indeed most of the Eastern seaboard). It has taken us a long time to return - too long. With months of training and preparation completed, today was finally the day. After an early breakfast in Cooma, we headed for Charlottes Pass to start our 3 day hike bagging Australia's 13 highest peaks, plus all the caches along the way. Enroute to Jindabyne, we encountered some heavy fog, which slowed us a little. However, there was no point arriving before the expected opening hour of the NPWS office to buy passes, so we decided to grab a cache or two. Our frustrations in dealing with the NPWS are extreme and today just reinforced the lack of customer focus in this organisation.Eventually, we kitted up, took a few obligatory photos at the Charlotte Pass lookout, before heading down the hill to cross the Snowy River. From there, it was a good climb, despite the heat, extreme UV and rotten flies, up to Blue Lake, where the group reassembled for a rest and a snack. We had fully intended on heading to the Lake's edge for a possible swim in the Lake, but NPWS signs advised that traversing the track down was prohibited. Another batch of signs regarding a weed outbreak prohibited any alternative off track approach down the valley. So, we had to settle for the views from the lookout today. After a decent break, Seffnjarah and I headed up the hill to this cache. The container was duly found as per the hint, in good order, and some photographs taken of the original logbook and the magnificent views. This particular cache had been on my to do list for a long time - it helps fill another spot on my Jasmer, assists with a number of Challenges in progress and is all the things I love about geocaching - a great location, scenic views, some clean mountain air and a decent physical challenge. The views alone were worthy of a crooked favourite today. From here, it was onwards up the ridge line, before turning north to our first of 13 bagged peaks, just behind Blue Lake - Mt Twynam. This was a bucket list hike for me and I was fortunate to be blessed with incredible weather, great views and good company.TFTC Houndog and Snifter Pete#7,646
I was part of a brisbane based group that found this log as we make our way around the mountain tops. So lucky to still have some caches here. Thanks for maintaining.
Nice walk from Charlotte Pass over to Blue Lake on a very busy very windy day!Logging a couple of days later now that we have reception.TFTC!
Hiked in from Charlottes Pass with this our first cache of the multi-day adventure with Abstaria with beautiful views of Blue Lake. TFTC!
Argh! I had assumed I was not allowed to climb up the hill to try and get this as it is off track! It seems you can and so now I will have to return! I am planning to do the Main Range walk (today was Blue Lake) so will grab it next time!!
Hiked in from Charlottes Pass with this our first cache of the multi-day adventure with GEOJohs husband (aka my brother) with beautiful views of Blue Lake. TFTC!
So lovely to see the original logbook. The painted ammo can is keeping it dry.I found the cache on our walk to Blue Lake and back from our camp above Wilkinson Creek. Always good to get an oldie, TFTC
Found on a Tafe hike/canoe trip.We are studying in Newcastle, and we are on our final assessment. We are starting from charlottes Pass, up to Kt Kosciuszko, and walk down to the snowy river, where we jump on some rafts and paddle down the river all the way to the coast of Marlo.19 days in all.A lot of fun to grab a few in this area.TFTC
We parked the car at Charlotte Pass, and began the walk early.
There was plenty of ice and gentle water flowing on the pathway in the early morning, but the sun was glorious and promised a still and warm day.
A perfect day for this walk.
The silence as we walked was wonderful and the scenery outstanding.
Thanks Hounddog and SNIFTER for maintaining this old Hide.

Found this cache with my partner while on the Main Range walk. We left the path leading towards the Blue Lake and scrambled up with our hiking poles in search of GZ - only to find that it would have been much easier to get there from the main trail.
Anyways, I swiftly found the container once we got there. I hadn't noticed how old this cache was before finding it, and we were surprised and delighted to find the original logbook from 2001! We took a few minutes to read through all the old logs, which had a lot of character. We were also really impressed that the logbook looked pristine after so long, especially with the weather of the area.
This is definitely getting a FP as it's my favourite cache of my over 100 finds so far. The find was even one of the highlights of the walk for my semi-muggle partner.

It has been a long time plan to want to come up for GCF7 although for the past few years it's just never come together unfortunately. Believing our opportunity for this side of the year had passed it was a surprise when GreyHams proposed that with the weekends good weather we plan to head up but I was of course keen!
A casual start to the day was nice, we managed a carpark near the top of the CP car park and set off a bit after 8.30am. A perfect window of opportunity with the brilliant weather, clear blue sky, being sunny and calm made for a magnificent walk. Stunning scenery made up for the occasional brutal hills although for the main part, slow and steady got us up them, and back to the car in relatively sound condition, 33,000 steps later!
A pleasant days walk for our 2000 cache, a 2001 and the blue lake EC. So pleased we finally made it up here for them. So pleased when we made it up to the main range trail and its relatively flatter terrain compared to the accent! The return went much easier back down, although the cloud appeared and the cool started to set in, however we were back to the CP carpark by 4pm which was well timed for our drive home that afternoon. It was so great to finally get up here and experience this walk!
Making it this far up was a relief as that last hill up was tough! The little waterfall along the way was cool though and a nice distraction from the steep hill. Although a little more up was needed to reach this cache it was only a little hill up for a great quality container appropriate for this great cache! Thanks for the cache Hounddog and SNIFTER, we loved the original log book with its logs.

This trip had been in the planning stages for a very long time, and earlier this week I realised that the weather was going to be really good, and this weekend would likely be our last chance until summer to do this walk.
We were so pleased to get to Blue Lake, as we could see from the contour lines that after this it was much flatter all the way to the 2000, but geez that last few hundred metres up to Blue Lake were tough.
Up top it was more like meadows than anything else, with it getting much rockier as we approached the 2000 GZ. The way back it the sun went behind clouds, the wind picked up a little and of course we werent expending energy going up much anymore, so we got a little cold. But it was at least much easier than up!
Heartbreak hill at the end was a fitting end to the walk, my god it was tough after all of the steps we had already done. In the end my step count for the day topped 33,000!

It was a pleasant short hike up the hill from Blue Lake to this one, and very nice to see an ammo can with logbook dating all the way back to 2001.

#28 Great Southern Land: (2) The Paramount Peak was the first Geocache of the day after pressing through Charlotte Pass and barefoot crossing the Snowy River (don't worry, we had a hand towel).
We stopped and met a lot of strangers across the way, a woman who had completed all 7 Summits and was going out today to visit Australia's highest peaks. She hobbled over the rocks like a champion, not something we could have done.
I downloaded all the Geocaches in the area prior to heading off so that I could navigate as best as possible. Between here and Rawson's Pass we completed 5 Geocaches of the day.
I dropped my bag at the first opportunity and climbed 100m up the hill to find the ammo can with a spectacular view. It was impressive to find my first Geocache on the trail, and the one in the best condition of the most.
Even though we had so much longer to go (17km to Mt Kosciuszko), I wish I could have stayed for longer to look at the views here and potentially walk down to the lake. I'm young, another time perhaps.

The first Geocache found of the day between Charlotte Pass to Thredbo via Mt Kosciuszko Summit.
After a 20km hike, I'm just so exhausted. The photos tell the story. When I have the strength, I'll write a note once I've processed the long day.

Love a good ammo cache. But amazing it’s an OG cache from 2001!! With original logbook! Little bit of caching history here.
Thanks for the trip up the hill. Good view of the blue lake

An awesome huge day hike for Joolay, albida33, Kittykatch, seebass19 and I! 22km in about 8h to get from Charlotte's Pass starting at first light to Twynam and back via Carruther. Wow I wasn't sure we would be up for it but managed slow and steady with very few breaks. A big day and good to see that we still have that in us after injuries and all.
The weather was perfect today sunny but not too hot with a little wind but not tok bad. Definitely slip slap slop weather still in late Feb but otherwise very pleasant. Drank all my 3.5L of water a little magnesium towards the end but no cramps all the way. The hiking sticks were very helpful on this generally very graded track, made the difference for me I reckon.
The company was great, I could hope for a better one. Thanks to all for the supportive and fun hiking wibe all day!
This is our first stop for the day was this cache after 4.1km about 1.5h of walking from CP.
Thank you Hounddog and SNIFTER for putting the cache out and maintaining it.

Jindabyne Jaunt GCNW Weekend at Jindabyne Day 2. Yesterday was a travel day and a pleasant evening event. Today was the real deal part of the trip. I joined Joolay, Kitty batch, Sebass & Flintsones for a very demanding day of walking in the Australian Alps. We headed off from Jindabyne at 6.00am and were at Charlotte's Pass ready to walk at 6.45 just on sunrise. Walking down the first slope was a reminder of the doom at the end of the day, but we were fit an bright at the start of the day. The first port of call was Paramount peak, then Blue lake Earth cache. Next was the turn to the North for Mt Twynan and the target cache for the day, a bit further long 'Used to be highest.. An annoying extra bit of down and up, but found successfully. From here our return journey started, but we had to make a significant detour up Mt Curruthers for the final cache of the day. Only 200m along, but, way too much up. From here on it was the plod down to the Snowy River and then the hellish climb up heartbreak hill to Charlotte's pass to get back in the car and pretend not to die as we drove back to Jindabyne for the afternoon event followed by dinner and an early night. wow, what a day !
We had been walking for about two hours and were keen to get the first cache. It was a short detour up the hill and the cache was found without any issues. On down three to go !

Found on a caching walk to the Mt Twyneham with Joolay, albida3:, Flintstones and sebas. I was up here five years ago but left the cache to come back with my caching buddy Joolay. Such a beautiful day to be taking in the view of the lake and mountains. Great to find thus oldie at last. Thanks for the hide The 2 Dogs
Geocaching NSW organised events at Jindabyne for this weekend and we thought why not. In the end a pretty big Canberra contingent went down but all with different plans. Kittykatch, Albida33, Flintstones, Sebass19 and myself planned on heading to Mt Twynam to find the oldie but this was first on the list. OMG the uphill walk was incredible and it just kept going up. And that was only the beginning. In the end it was a huge day but there were fabulous views and lots of flowers.
I always wanted to come and visit Blue Lake and beyond but had no idea of the effort involved in getting here. Way harder than it shows on the map but we just kept walking and then we were there. Really quite spectacular and so glad to have visited today. The lake was looking good and got some great pics from the top. So cool to get this oldie.
Thanks for the exercise and fun Houndog and SNIFTER

Spending some time in the high country to take in some of the many wonderful bushwalks, and finding some of the last remaining caches in the area for me. Until there’s more!
DAY 2 - CP to Mt Twynam return, via Blue Lake on the way up and Illawong swing bridge and the Snowies track on the way back. All up 24km and 1029m elevation
️. A fantastic walk, and this cache was a quick easy find, and cache in good condition.
Thanks so much The 2 Dogs for maintaining this for our enjoyment . And for getting me out and about, and for highlighting this spot

Spent the weekend in Jindabyne with mates. We walked the Main Range Walking Track from Charlotte Pass. I enjoyed rock hopping at the Snowy River crossing and walking across sections of snow on the steady uphill trek. The spectacular views and favourable weather made for a fantastic day outdoors.
We plodded up the hill at Blue Lake for this hide. The cache was found fairly quickly and is in good condition. Thanks to everyone involved in maintaining this old school cache.

I had a lovely walk up in the mountians today. I'm still not fit enough to get to Kosci so I decided to go to Blue Lake and Carruthers this day instead. I ended up not being able to walk the next couple of days though. hahaha. Definitely worth it though.
The view from near the cache was gorgeous.
Thanks.

Took a while to find. Was just a tad tired I think Beautiful day but after a slog through snow and finding trails I kind of found the cache then headed off quick smart to get food! Went from CP-Illawong Bridge-Mt Tynam-Blue lake-CP. Normally run 21km a lot faster but today was a slog on the 'trail'
Thanks for the cache.

As a Brisbane boy, I have spent the vast majority of my life within a few kilometres of home. I do love Queensland and all it has to offer. And as a mountain lover, there are very few peaks within a couple hundred kilometres I've not visited. Basalt, bush and hot days have always been the theme. So I should find myself so far away, in the Snowy Mountains.Behold this trip to celebrate oz_bean_counters "ends-in-a-zero" birthday with me, Pprime and T4mmmy. We've been exploring Canberra, then heading south to the Snowy Mountains and back. Last night we sat in our accommodation doing all the last-minute plans for this walk that only OBC and myself would go on. The route had been planned: Charlotte Pass, Mount Twynam, Illawong and back to Guthega courtesy of the other two car shuffling for us. We laid out a communications plan given the dodgy reception, and then looked at the weather.Cold, we planned for. Plenty of clothes will be packed, along with snacks and supplies. But inclement weather can be dangerous. Tomorrow morning looked marginal. In the end, we decided to get to the trailhead and make a final go/no call. We are both capable hikers and confident in navigation and don't mind being a little wet.Dawn on day four of the trip and we find ourselves at the trailhead at Charlotte Pass. I put all my layers on. And I am cold. Quietly, I am concerned. Prime hands me a pair of old gloves from his boot, and the final agreement is "see how cold we are after 1km". So, with grey skies, a brisk breeze, thick air and kinda cold, we set off.Everything is different to home. The entire environ, the weather, and my clothing choices. We descend down to the Snowy River. The track is good, we're below cloud and I soon start feeling better. We get across the water with dry feet and begin the grind up the hill. After just a few hundred metres, I take off a layer lest I start getting sweaty. Yeah, today will be alright! No looking back. For the first time in my life, I soon touch snow. I dart off the track to grab a handful to throw at OBC. This is now a bloody enjoyable walk. Upwards, we enter the cloud and visibility crashes for the next few hours. But, we're in the lee of the range and conditions otherwise are pretty good. The two of us chat and walk and I'm feeling excellent and grateful and fortunate and loving being outside.Good track as it was, five separate times on the ascent we lost it. Not got lost, just it disappeared under snow drifts. Not something I fully expected in the middle of apparently summer. I learned a bit about walking on snow. And we could hardly believe it when we even passed a tent and campers along the way.Having a good time and ninety minutes later we were as close as we could get on track. We hadn't seen any views for most of that time, and now it was off track, following the arrow on my phone. By the time we got near GZ, we couldn't even see the track we'd just left. We certainly couldn't see Blue Lake which is apparently below us.I really am excited about the next geocache on our list, but I was definitely thrilled when this one was located and all in good condition. Even has the original logbook inside! At 09:55 we signed our names and replaced as found. Being stopped for a few minutes, we were growing cold. After all, we're in the clouds and it is windy and raining and well, cold.Just those few minutes and we decide best to keep moving, and best to not take any unplanned detours. We head back down to the track. From here we'll make our way to the Main Range track and head north. Conditions will get both more challenging and more memorable for the rest of our day. But this has been a magnificent, and wildly different morning already. Thanks for this geocache, Hounddog and SNIFTER and Geocaching NSW
Found this one after an epic 21 km hike from Charlotte's Pass to Mt Twynam to Guthega.
Out with friends to celebrate a milestone birthday and enjoy all that the snowies had to offer.
Of course this old cache (still with original logbook, how incredible) was on the list. Delighted to finally log this cache.
Of course it is favourite point worthy, and I don't think I'll ever forget it. My legs can certainly feel it now.

We did the main range loop during this long weekend. The weather was really good. Blue sky, no wind. Perfect condition for few caches on the way !
At GZ it was a quick and easy find. And the view ... AWESOME. Thanks to bring us there.

An unexpected fee caches today as our plans changed last minute and we decided to walk the whole main range track. Perfect conditions made for a great walk, anti clockwise today.

Found while doing the Main Range Loop with Azzap87. Quick find after a bit of a scramble up the slope after visiting the Blue Lake. Felt like a criminal going off trail, but given this was placed with permission from the ranger, I thought it was okay. Left a trackable and a painted rock, and took a photo with my travelling bug Sir Oswald. TFTC
A nice little side trip off the main range.
Quick and easy find of a lovely sized container and found while doing a YHA Bushwalking group walk.
It didn’t take too long to catch them after the quick find.

Quick find here. Took a bit longer to get to GZ though, steep. It slowly got more foggy so we had to rush back down. Thanks for the oldie! TFTC!
Approached this one completely from the wrong angle (ie from the Blue Lake side). There is a much easier way... Once at GZ, cache quickly found. TFTC.
First cache of the day on an epic 30km hike around the Main Range via Mt Townsend. This was a straightforward find at our first stop for the day - cache and log are in good condition. Awesome spot. Thank you!
An oldie not to be bypassed! The planets aligned, perfect weather and opportune timing with a couple of spare days saw me here enroute to Wollongong from NE Vic - also daughter hadn’t been up here in ‘summer’ so I says how about hiking a few days. The Easter peak is on the wane but this is still busy, so luckily the nicely placed hide was away from most lunchateers. Mission accomplished and splendid views soaked up whilst remembering mad ski touring days a few decades ago! TFTC and the FUN!
Took a detour here to grab this while going to the Blue Lake. Spent some time enjoying the scenery and reading the logbook. TFTC!
I’ve been meaning to get this grandfather cache for years and with a chance opportunity to walk the main range today and with the weather nearly perfect, I soon had the cache in hand. Did the legals and replaced as found. TFTCM

Summer holiday time, and day 4 at Thredbo - Today we headed back to Charlotte pass later in the afternoon, and this time out to Blue Lake, and then, because the weather was so perfect, the sky so clear, and the mountains so awesome, we decided to keep climbing up to Mt Curruthers to see what the view was like from up there.
On the way up, there were lots of muggles at the viewing area, so we decided to get this one on the way back down - and our patience was rewarded - the GZ we completely deserted - in fact, as far as we could tell, the entire alps was completely deserted.
So, we made the find, signed the log, and enjoyed the warm sunset and the great views for a while before heading back to the car.
I've attached a photo of the Dragon Spinner Geocoin that's been traveling with me for far to long - Dragons like mountains don't they?
Thanks for all the cache Hounddog and SNIFTER - it's a great spot.

A great way to finish the year, with the last of the high country caches that I have not found. Out for a walk to Blue Lake with my wife, after walking down to the lake and back I slipped away for very quick find. The cache is in great condition and well hidden after all these years. Wonderful to collect another old school cache.

Today to celebrate my birthday, Mr poolpool treated me to something I've always wanted to do, the Main Range walk. What a display it lived up to. Perfect weather, fantastic 360 degree views, and not an area to disappoint. Big day walking and caching, about 30km in total. Part of that was the detour to Mt Townsend, Australia's 2nd highest peak. Awesome day, finished by climbing lots of highs!! Dropped a trackable off. Tftc
Found on a walk before southerners were made pariahs. The morning started out pretty nice, by the time I got up here the cloud was starting to lower and the wind starting to rise. Quickly found, love these robust containers. Broke out the warmer gear before moving on. Thanks.
So my phone battery was getting very low but decided i could try and get this one before it died, a little detour from the path up the hill. When moving one of the rocks covering it i dropped the rock and just missed my foot could have been a long trip back. TfTc
We are caching with AF-BEE, GeoWinch78 and 6ftzpr&1/2zip. We went to 'Used to the highest' and are now on our way down. Thanks Hounddog and SNIFTER for placing this cache we needed a diversion.
On a great geocaching adventure with ondago, AFBEE and GW78. After climbing to the top of the mountain and back, we made the trek to this shorter mountain for the find. TFTFun
OCW 1/2zip and ondago, after completing Australia's Used to Be Highest, made the short side trip to grab this on...all is well...TFTC!
Today, it's the 13th day of my trip in Australia and my 4rd day between Melbourne and Sydney.
Today, it's one of my main goals of my trip, reach the summit of Australia, the Mt Kosciuszko.
So I planned all my day for walking here and in the area .
I park at Charlotte Pass carpark and I'm starting to hike around 8am.
Unfortunately, the weather wasn't good. Foogy. When I reached the top, it was raining and I see nothing around with the fog .
So I continue my way by doing the main range track and took a detour to do the old cache "Australia's Used-to-be-Highest" also.
Later when I was on the main range track, the clouds start to disappear and I finish by having almost a clear sky. Great , so at the moment I can see the view from all range around it was amazing .
In total, I've done 30km in 6h, plus 1h - 1h30 of break/stop along the way with 1000m of elevation.
On my way back from the old cache "Australia's Used-to-be-Highest" to Charlotte Pass, I decided to come to do this other old cache .
Wow, a well maintain old one with an ammobox.
Nice view from here also.
Greetings from Belgium.

Team novo on a 5-day Alpine xmas camping & hiking trip to wind up the decade. We did three legs all up; the first being here today out along the Main Range Track from Charlotte Pass to Mt Twynam via Carruthers Pk, the second being a day planned tomorrow along the Main Range Track (this time from Thredbo chair) out to Kosciuszko and (hopefully) Townsend, and then our third leg a bike ride out along the Machinery Spur at Hotham Heights among other things, after a day's drive from here via the Alpine way. We enjoyed today's hiking immensely, grabbing a spot of lunch with our toes in the Snowy River, getting a thrill out of all the snow on the meadows above giving us our first ever aussie white Christmas
From Mt Twynam, the boy and I made our way back to the other half of team novo who were going to be waiting by the Blue Lake for our return. Boy and I took a short cut from the trail above to bring us onto the Main Range Track right where the other two had stopped to fill their backup bottles with the most crystal clear water you could imagine! We all then made our way to the Blue Lake junction where we spit up again; boy and I heading up to this retro stash and onto the nearby EC while the others began the trek back to the Pass. We made a quick enough find of a well hidden cache thanks to good coords. There really is no greater sound on a big day's hike like today than the sound of an ammo can being dragged out of it's hidey hole. TFTC, Hounddog and SNIFTER. You guys really do/ did get around!! Cache in excellent condish for it's age/ returned as found.

Wee still trying to get our fitness back after our Nepal fail, so we thought we would go for a stroll across the main range to see how we go.
After spending too much time getting across the river, we should have walked across the non-existent foot bridge..., we took off up the hill taking in the views that mountain mist with 20m visibility allows....so we pretty much could only see each other.
Anyway, we turned up at the intersection and it was like Sunday at the tip, a whole bunch of workmen and their 4wds where standing around having morning tea, so we turned right and went up the hill to find the cache.
Thankfully it was found rather quickly and we signed our lives away, before taking in the inside of the cloud, then it was back down to the path and off to the next one.

On the way up, it was like a car rally above Blue Lake which isn't what I expected. I think they were doing some work there. I decided therefore to pick this up on the way down from Australia's Used to be Highest. A quick find and a nice view across the Range. Thanks for keeping this oldie going.

I had often heard of this dream of Spindoc Bob's to find all the active 2000 and 2001 caches in Australia, through his videos, podcasts and in conversation. He got me hooked on the idea of old caches that had stood the test of time and were worth the effort to search out.
In January 2015 while watching the Mariners play I received some heartbreaking news that Darren had passed away. Through tears I was determined to finish the goal and find the remaining 2001 caches. It took me just over four years, many road trips and fun adventures to complete this goal.
But here I stand in the Snowy Mountains admiring the view and dancing a certain special dance for a special man.
Vale Darren Osborne, you are missed!

Weekend in Jindabyne to celebrate Team Canary's 10,000th find in the company of b@w and Noodles22. Walked in from Charlottes Pass to collect Carruthers Peak and Australia's Used-to-be-Highest (where some milestones were celebrated), before stopping at the Blue Lake on the return journey. Great to grab another old school cache!

I joined forces with Crash2079, and Bella at Waggy to help Team Canary find his 10Kth cache.
This one was good too find, especially as we were on our way back down to the cars, mostly down hill!
Thanks for the cache.

Having just completed a cruise for our 25th wedding anniversary, geowife Malipara and I decided to stop in Jindabyne for a few nights on the way home. With spectacular weather, how could I pass up the opportunity to look for some caches up here. Malipara didn't want to join me, so it was a solo trip.
It was very pleasant to find an older cache in such a beautiful spot. Thanks for the hide.

Using this cache to log the distance for a TB I have. Our intention was to walk from Charlotte Pass to Club lake and onto Carruthers peak find the cache and to either leave the TB at Carruthers or this Cache. Unfortunately the weather was against us. The Snowy was up over the stepping stones and Carruthers and Club lake covered in cloud. We decided to walk up the main trail to the head waters of the Snowy river and then head for the nearest Coffee shop.
Found on a good day walking on Mount kosciuszko, Nice and clouded but not to cold and the rain started when I was back in Jindabyne.
I had a caching mission in mind. Four caches, parking at the top of Charlotte Pass in the morning and returning around lunch. With the young fella, who has some good running legs, it took us 3.5hrs. Left at 9:00, getting to Australia's-used-to-be-highest at 10:20, backtracking to Mt Carruthers for 11:15, Blue Lake viewing platform at 11:40, the trad at 11:50 then back to the car by 12:30. Very light rain and some wind was acceptable conditions.
No problems finding this. I'd taken a bit of a tumble coming down to the intersection, so I hope no blood splatters were left on the container. Ha. TFTC HD&S

After finding the Blue Lake cache, we continued up here in light to medium rain.
Mercifully, the additional detour for this cache was not significant and it was a pretty easy find.
We set off again, hoping that the weather would improve. Alas, at points, it got much worse, mainly with high winds.
Thanks for the cache!

TFTC! On the way down from Carruther's Peak in the midst of a 4-day hike through Kosciuszko National Park and noticed it was reasonably close by. So ran down the mountain with my sister, left our packs at the y-intersection that would lead us back to Guthega direction rather than Blue lake, and ran to GZ. Found the cache quickly with the coordinates on point, and ran back to pick up our packs and continue on the hike. Beautiful view! Thanks again.
Out doing the 5 lake walk, what a way to start the new year.
Absolutely amazing area and fantastic walk.

This year, for the second time of my life, I travelled on holiday to Australia. The last tour has been in 1995, but this time something was a little different. For the first time I didn’t travel in a group, this was my first tour, were I was totally alone. I had booked the flights to Brisbane and from Adelaide and for the three weeks in between I rented a very small campervan, in which I could sleep and was able to do a little cooking. For me, this was enough.
In three weeks I was able to drive more than 5000 kilometres and could find around 90 caches, including all of the Australian caches from 2000. To finish the Jasmer Challenge was the other thing I wanted to do. There was only one month open and this was October 2000. With two different caches from this month in the country I could finish the challenge and in the end I visited them both. The best thing is: I didn’t need a cache of the USA to complete my Jasmer.
----------
Today I was lucky that I spend the night at Island Bend. When I drove back to Charlotte Pass in the morning, the road was already closed due to a bicycle race. But then the guards opened the barrier for me and told me that I had to stay up the mountains till evening. That was OK with me, because I wanted to walk the big circle.
First I went to Blue Lake by crossing the Snowy River over the stepping stones. There was relatively much water in the river, so I had to be very careful. Then the path went up and till I reached the lake most of the time a really strong wind was blowing. I had to keep my hat under the hood of my jacket; otherwise it would have been blown away. After I answered the questions for the Earthcache I climbed up to find this Tradi. It was a little bit off road, but no Problem to get there.

I and a muggle friend walked from Charlotte Pass to the Blue Lake. We crossed the Snowy River barefoot - freezing cold, but doable. The stones were not slippery, a sign of low algal growth due to very fresh and clean water in the river (rather a creek at this altitude). There was a lot of snowdrift on the track, following last week's snowfall during three days. The lake was our main goal for the day, the walk there took two and a half hour. We met few walkers on the track - the previous day to Mount Kosciuszko we had met close to a hundred people in different groups.
We sat for an hour down at the viewing platform, just taking in the beauty surrounding us. On our way back to Charlotte Pass I ventured up Paramount Peak for this oldie. Luckily and strangely there was not much snowdrift up here, so I was very happy to find the cache, undoubtedly helped by good coordinates and the generous size of the cache itself. I was also rewarded with a different view of Blue Lake.
Thanks heaps for the cache and the views! Truly great!

Day 2 of the Kozi adventure with Pacman.
Still wrecked after yesterday's walk, we camped at Island bend the night before and arrived at Charlotte's pass nice and early. The walk started off with snow straight away, even snow boarders on the trek! Good thing we packed snow shoes as this only just added to the adventures which was absolutely awesome, altho crossing the river was tough worrying about collapsing snow. Up on the summit the view was absolutely spectacular - 110% one of the best views I have ever come across. Took the time to read through the logs of this golden oldie - some classic stories in here! Sensational cache and hope it has a long and healthy lifetime.

Day 3 of an epic 5-day roadtrip hiking and 4WDing between the Alpine and Kosciuszko National Parks with Jacko had us starting at Island Bend, hiking around Charlotte Pass and then travelling to Omeo via some 4WD backroads.
Yesterday we hiked to Mt Kosciuszko from Thredbo so today we opted for a shorter 10km hike from Charlotte Pass.
There was enough snow to keep us alert. And crossing that Snowy River was soooo cooooold!
The views from GZ were amazing. This is why I cache!
I'm amazed the original 2001 logbook is still in the cache and in such good condition.
From GZ I could see a crazy cross-country skier jumping over massive crevasses.
Thanks The 2 Dogs Hounddog and SNIFTER. A FP for this awesome GC6 cache!

We've planed a trip to Jindabyne this year.
To get there, we took the inland route via Canberra where we've stayed for one night. We've then continued on to Jindabyne and have stopped at many interesting locations on the way there.
We've walkes up to the summit of
Mt Kosciusko on Easter Saturday. We've taken the main range walk up to the summit of 26km total distance. Great challenging hike past the blue lake and many other little mountain lakes.
The view up there was magnificent.
Back in Jindabyne, we've walked around the lake and have visited the sculptures near the lake.
We took the coastal route for the way home back to Sydney staying in Batemans Bay for the night.
We've stopped at many interesting locations and have visited some caches along the way as well
Thank you to all the owners for showing us the places
