Cool little town, and awesome history. The doors unlock if you want to take a look inside by the way! Too bad we couldn't find this cache after about 20 minutes of searching even when using the hint.
Lovely little historic place. Thanks for bringing me here. Cache all good and dry. TFTC
Owner maintenance visit:Had to search a little to find it as it wasn't where I left it - not surprising given the flooding there's been since I was last here, plus it appears continental and/or magnetic drift have caused the co-ordinates to have changed by about 8m.Also cleaned up the cache container and contents, and replaced the log book. I also replaced the container lid as the old one was a little loose and I had a spare lid with me that fitted more snuggly. Thanks to those who have helped maintain this cache since my previous visit - much appreciated.
Coordinates changed from:S 40 52.637 E 176 4.340Coordinates changed to:S 40 52.638 E 176 4.336Distance from original: 19.4 feet or 5.9 meters.Whether it be due to magnetic drift, continental drift, or equipment inaccuracy ... these co-ordinates needed updating.
What a fantastic little village. So interesting but sad everything is closedWe found the cache and tried to dry it out a bit. Thanks for bringing us here and TFTC
We have washed all the trinkets and left a new log book in a glad bag. The hint has changed but just trust the co ords
Although the previous maintenance log was unnecessary the cache now really needs maintenance. Town has experienced flooding. Including this cache and buildings, reminds us of when we helped orchards in hawks bay. Needs maintenance. Graeme.N probably needs to stop by and give this cache some attention.Log created on 5/06/2023 at 7:48 AM
Heading home from a 1 day trip at castle point. This cache was on the way.As we got to GZ it was clear the flood waters have previously been here. Cache was in the open and silt all over. Cant sign log as its drenched. After a bit more investigation all the buildings around here got flooded. you can see a visible line where the water has been. In some parts of the town it appeared the waterline was over our car!I wrote in the log and placed the cache back as found. TFTCSL, Thanks Graeme.N for this Traditional cache. We hope this museum will be back up and running sometime.???????????? ???? Found it! On the way back from Riversdale. An interesting historic site tftc
Passing through on the way to the south island. Made a side trip to Castle Point for the day passing Tinui on the way. Checked out the one way window in the public loo while I was there. Thanks for hiding Graeme.N
Nice quirky area to visit on my way back from Castlepoint as I head to SH52 to home. Tried a few sitting areas before lucking in and getting the right one as per hint. All good here with this nice sized cache.
It's International Earthcaching weekend and I am 'bach' so have a free rein on what's optional, ding dong. I have had a plan for a while to knock off my remaining 52 on SH52 caches and that seemed viable, via Castlepoint for an EC. However, just South of Pongaroa the road is missing, so a new route home was needed and Rimu Road came up trumps. Quite a few skindo caches were found, and much enjoyment was had, cheers all COs. Almost 70 finds for the day, Ad Labs included, so all was good.

Found yesterday while wandering around the village during our weekend stay while attending our local area motorhome rally at the hall.
We decided to visit Castle Point having never been before. I had heard about the first ANZAC so we had to stop. We took the opportunity to explore a little. Cache was a quick find. TFTC
Stopped here on the way out to Castle Point but no phone coverage so picking it up on the way back to Masterton. TFTC
Wandering in Wairarapa between Easter and Anzac day. Another day trip. Today I went from Martinborough to Castlepoint via Greytown and Masterton. Found several hides along my way. This hide was one of them.
Wow! This is what geocaching is for. Wouldn't visit this spot otherwise.
TFTC!

On our way back to Masterton. Slight detour to have a look around. Nothing opened but found the cache.TFTC
Returning from a visit to Castlepoint we stopped to look at this interesting spot of history. TFTC
Staying down here a couple of days and travelling through to Castlepoint today. Looking for a coffee and saw the signage.
Unfortunately no coffees or anything to be had from the tearooms, but met a local who opened up the Craft shop and museum. While Maggiesmum poked around in there, Maggie and I found the cache. TNLNSL TFTC

Pen was not cooperating today! Couldn't sign physically. Had some trouble locating, as there was next to no cell coverage out here. Future finders, consider saving this cache before you depart. Thanks for the little detour!
Heading home after spending the weekend at Castlepoint, kayaking. Had to wait awhile as a campervan was parked nearby and then a car parked right in front of the location, so spent some time reading the interesting information on hand. The car left and the campervan people were out of view so made a quick grab for the cache before anymore people showed up. Log book filled in and cache returned as found.
Thanks for setting up the cache . FP

What a cute little village and so much history here. We spent a little while here after a fantastic two days at Castlepoint, and enjoyed this cache. TFTC
#341 we pulled over on the way to castle point looking for a toilet. We were surprised what we found a spent couple of minutes checking this cute little piece of history.tftc
Out exploring the back roads and really enjoyed stopping here, what an interesting bit of history, and loved the items here on display. TFTC, sorry for the late log.
From Auckland and on a 7 weeks motor trip to the South Island to do all our outstanding parkruns.

(# 6621). A trip to Castlepoint and Riversdale Beach primarily to get the Adventure Lab caches. Got some others as well. A quick find. Everything in order. Thanks for bringing me here. Such a nice little settlement.
TB taken, all in good condition. Stopped in here on way to castle point. Nice little jail and historical things. Tftc
Very sad back story about the boys in this area and WW1 but good quick find. Cache was exposed when found so relocated slightly still in line with hint. TFTC
Found after a quick search. Lovely day to be caching warm with a light breeze. TFTC
Heading down to Masterton for a week of work. Decided to skip SH2 and take the scenic route nearer the coast. Spent the night at Alfredton Domain which was very peaceful. Now heading to Castlepoint. This was a great stop. Lots of history to read about and old objects to remind one of days gone by. Places for the kids to play such as the tractor. A favourite from us. Thanks for the smiley.
TFTC It was a nice peaceful town and a easy cache to find. We really enjoyed it. Thanks a lot.
Another glorious day to potter about the Wairarapa, revisiting places not visited for a couple of decades. Picked up this cache and some local history along with morning tea. Thanks for bringing us here.
This one was a bit tricky as we had the cache location but none of the cache description as we had not saved it to offline. We had to solely rely on the GPS which lucky for us was bang on. Signed sealed and returned. Cache is in great shape
Found on a trip to check out Castlepoint.
Grabbed a travel bug and dropped a trackable.
Loved the historic story and we purchased some teddies from the co op craft museum. Tftc

On way to Castlepoint. Tinui was VERY quiet with no activity at the school. Checked up and the kids were all off swimming! Found hiding place very quickly. Dropped off a travel bug and picked one up.TFTC.
We tried out various seats, inside and out until returning to our first choice. The cache was finally detected! Our first cache for today. Cherokee TB in. TFTC
Raining! Summer!! But the caching is fun. Love the little village.
This was find #1 of 30 today on our exploration of the Tinui -Alfredton - Eketahuna road. Staying in Castlepoint there’s not much to do apart from sea sports so it’s a road tour today. Thanks to all the COs for their efforts which gave us so much fun today. Only 3 DNFs.

TaybeeNZ is learning to drive so hes in the drivers seat on this excursion. Arrive at Castle Point late morning to find the tide is wrong to attempt Castlepoint Celebration. So we backtracked to Tinui to visit the First AnZAC. got this one tagged. Cheers
Day 22 - Friday 22 January 2020. Wellington. Its a trip to Castle Point today with Taybee and Taybee NZ.
The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and I are spending Christmas exploring Taranaki via geocaching. Its been an amazing 3 week adventure. Rattls BBQ was a great event, meeting many other cachers. But also managed to fit in a few more events, especially New Years Day celebrating the start of 2020. Lots of caches - over 500. Lots of cache maintenance. Lots and lots of kilometers. And lots of amazing places visited along our journey. Mt Taranaki remained elusive for much of our travels and the caches on it at the top. Loved Pukekura Park Night Lights Show and the the Wooden Mechanical toy exhibition at NP Info centre.

Out with Taybee and TaybeeNZ, as well as Taybeedragon. The complete set! Off to Castlepoint. Alas that is all I remember.
I have lost my notebook! When I go on a geotrip I record my finds and notes in a log book or, in the case of this big circumnavicaching trip around Mt Taranaki that Taybeedragon and I did over Christmas, in three notebooks. And I have lost notebook number 3 - 29th December onward. Luckily I enter the caches as found on the GPS (helps with avoiding backtracking) so I am using my GPS log to identify which caches I found/DNFed. Alas, however, no cache notes. So it is now March - and I am relying on memory. A fickle thing, memory. I suspect most will have no notes above. Sorry, folks.

Out for another great day caching with son MightyMicra and competing his flash Garmin against my old Huawai phone, so far averaging about 50:50 on first to locate! TFTC.
A quick find whilst stopping in quaint little Tinui. Cool to have the old buildings there, and also to learn that the history. TFTC, greetings from Auckland
As per the last ones that logged it finding the correct place to sit took a few tries, but we went back to basics the cache was soon in hand. A great little place to stop.
It was very quiet at GZ today and we enjoyed the serenity. What a great spot with so much history. Thanks Graeme.N for bringing us here.
Interesting to know that this was where the 1st ever ANZAC service was held. We could see the cross on top of the hill and we may walk up there another day. Located cache pretty quick but had to wait for others to move on before we could retrieve and sign. TFTC.
Have been poking around all over the area, grabing the odd cache here and there, many thanks to all the cvache placers - Bitsprayer
#6492. With a great weather forecast coming up decided I needed a short summer break on the east coast. The girls decided to join me on the road trip. So after checking out Castlepoint it was time to head back and north to Route 52. Last time I was in this settlement there were men trimming the tree and the park was roped off. Today not a soul in sight and after a false start at another spot until I noticed the size of the cache, then it was off to the correct GZ and the cache was in hand shortly afterwards. Signed the logbook and replaced the cache where found. Thanks for hiding it here Graeme.N
After the 2018 WENZ Mega event
mr and mrs went on a Wairarapa tiki tour, and after staying the night at castlepoint and exploring we made our way back towards Masterton picking up caches along the way, finding this cache - logged as MM78.
Nice collection of buildings in a nice garden and amazing history... could just make out the cross on the hill

Replaced broken container (left old grey lid as it provides a bit of camo).
Read the log book - nice to see so many visitors and that some have even written notes.
(Also replaced the pen as the old one was no longer working.)

After a beautiful warm, calm sunny Sunday, I visited here on a quiet Monday morning as the cold rain came down. Hunted around both nearby seats, but nothing found. Wet!
I went for a wee drive out towards Tinui today and then ventured around a bit at there leaving a visit to Castlepoint another day.
The container is broken but still serviceable if the broken side is placed on the downhill side.
Cheers for the cache.

Didn't get to check this one. There was a guy up in the tree loping off branches and a pile of branches all over the table below. Other guys watching on. Decided it would need to be another day looking for this one.
kids needed to stop to use the toilet and we realised there was a cache within metres, took us a while to find but found easily once we managed to get access to the hint (took a while to get mobile data signal working), boys enjoyed getting locked in jail and feeding the hens, cache is damaged but sounds like it's been that way for a while, log inside was dry enough, a very cute little spot, lots of pretty autumn leaves around, son has nicknamed Tinui "Townville"!
First time in this beautiful village even though I've driven to Castle Point many times. Thank you for bringing us here. Love the police station! TFTC
The container and lid are broken. The contents are dry at the moment, but probably won't survive the next decent rain shower.
On a lovely weekend away in the Castlepoint area I found this with TharntheHalkan and Jaeh68.Thanks for this cache which added to the weekend fun.
Off exploring out towards Castle Point. Stopped by the Cafe for the night and we’ll do the rest of the way tomorrow with the 4x4. Nice quick find here. The container is broken, however the contents are still dry .... at this stage. TFTC!!!
Caching around Palmerston North, collecting a few caches along the way with rustynz and gorby. Thanks for the hides
Almost the last cache for tonight, it's dark and Rebel 98, rustynz and myself are getting rather tired, it's been many hours of driving and caching today, and we have yet to drive back to Palmerston! So I sit in the car shining the car lights upon the scene while Rebel and rusty do the searching, it seemed to take ages for them to find it! But it was found. A nice historic place here alright.
A historic area - loved the old police station!
On a 3 day caching adventure - rustynz, rebel98 and gorby
As to the cache, it was rebel98 who found it, I missed it, and then went searching elsewhere. Luckily eventually it was found, and we could turn this into a smiley!

Local caretaker came over after the school bus run and gave us a private history lesson.

We were so pleased geocaching brought us to this pretty village. We admired the police station and prison before finding the cache. Thanks.
We headed out to Castlepoint this morning and decided to make a caching stop in Tinui. We had never stopped here before; what a lovely spot and town! There were several muggles having their smoko at the picnic table, so we just strolled and admired the buildings until we had a chance to reach for the cache. I had hoped to leave a TB here, but the large hole in the side of the Sistema container made me change my mind. After we signed the log we replaced the cache as found. Thank you for bringing us here!
