I wandered down to check out this earthcache while in Bunbury last week.Answers submitted to COThis was a lovely spot to watch the ocean waves and marvel at nature
I dropped my wife off at a nearby establishment for a girls lunch with our daughters and took my grandaughter for a walk up to this spot. An interesting location but a little tricky to walk around.(answers have been sent in)
Day #12. My last minute WAGB adventure continues today and there is only one full day left. I was running behind on my caching schedule (no surprises there) so I started in Bunbury in the morning and headed towards Mandurah in the arvo. Thank goodness for late checkins.I had noticed an event nearby and this highlighted that this was the first earthcache in WA, so it was a must do on the trip. A great place to explore. Awesome to have this going for 20years, well done.A big thanks goes to rjm1 for taking the time to add Bunbury Basalt to the geocaching map for us all to find and enjoy.----------------------------------------------------------Wow! The fun just never stops.Have you logged your will attend for Victoria's first ever Block Party? (Think Mega but even more special!)Join us on 22-23 March 2025 in Sunbury to celebrate 25 years of geocaching by logging your will attend at [**GCAP417**](https://coord.info/GCAP417).
Find number 14137 at 12:37:03pm on Tuesday the 24 September 2024We're on our way to WA Goes Big, travelling from Croydon (Melbourne, Victoria) with a caravan in tow and making a leisurely caching holiday across the Nullarbor and back.Well, WA Goes Big is done for another year and we are on our way home again now, via Perth, Kalgoorlie and the Nullarbor but slowly over the next five weeks Today we travelled from Augusta to Bunbury and Mandurah where we will stay for a few days to check out the local scenery.Stopped here to stretch the legs and grab a virtual, a letterbox, an earthcache and a couple of trads. An amazing view of the basalt columns with the waves breaking over them.**Thanks for placing this cache rjm1**---*WOW, so much happening at home in Victoria*Dont forget to log your will attend for Victorias first ever Block Party in March 2025, the [**The Sunbury Event**](https://coord.info/GCAP417).Theres also all those lists of amazing geocaches at [Geocaching Victorias List webpage]( https://geocachingvictoria.com.au/information/great-caching-lists), go check them out.
I went over to WA last year for WAGB 23 and had such a great time I decided to head back over for this years event in Augusta. So after all of the planning with dates work eventually only gave me a week off so flying over was my only option. So I flew into Perth again, and my first stop will be Busselton for 2 nights. It has been 47 years since I this part of WA and Im looking forward for a re visit.Making my way down the coast and picking out caches that look interesting to me.Made it to Bunbury and checked out part of the town on foot and I also drove around the area.A interesting spot here and the sun was shining for a walk along the beach.Worked out what was required after studding the area.Answers have been sent to the CO.Thanks rjm1 TFTEC.
Logged with CO permission.Hubby and I are on holiday from QLD and exploring the coast between Perth and Margaret River. We stopped here for lunch and enjoyed exploring the rock formations and watching the waves crash over them.TFTC
WA Big Trip Winter 2024. Day 49 - Bunbury Day 1. I headed out on my scooter to do a morning of caches near the caravan park and along the fore shore to the port. I still had enough charge to get into town and along the river to have a look for a few caches there too. The afternoon was in the car, and I got a bit more coastal. As far as caching itself went, it was a really u and down day. Several caches that had been not found before I also failed at, but some that had no DNFs I also could not find. I managed to do quite a few Lab as well before stopping caching and doing some shopping and a car chore.I headed out onto the beach for a look at these basalt columns. They are very eroded on the top, but that is just showing how impressive the power of water is. The first day of winter.. or more relevant today, windter. The blasting wind had whipped up foam around the Bunbury Basalt and spray was getting blown over everything that happened to be near. It was a wild day in Bunbury consequently the rock samples we picked were the closest to the beach. Answers were recorded (and almost blown to oblivion) and have been sent to the CO. TFTEC rjm1.
Brilliant day on Tuesday 21st as Spot returned to his roots. This area was always a favourite though never too keen on surfing the channel. Thanks rim1; great spot and fascinating place.
We didnt realise that Bunbury had such beautiful beaches until we geocached here! TFTC
This was a great location to visit and I'm pleased this EC highlighted it to bring us here! I love ECs and this is just the type that makes them so great with something interesting to see and learn.
Children had fun at the Back beach. After having lunch we headed here for rock science. TFTH
Found after crossing the Nullabor and heading down to Esperance and Albany on our way around the SW coast and north to Perth. We camped out near Wellington Dam before meandering through the towns of Bunbury, Australind and Harvey to our next campsite at Lake Brockman. Thanks for the interesting earthcache rjm1!
Found while visiting the area on holiday. Collected answers and sent through. TFTEC. A great location to visit and very interesting.
TFTEC. I walked here from our free campsite for 2 nights at Back Beach. A great spot to camp. I loved walking along the coast here and observing the rocks. It was nice to see the basalt instead of so much granite that we had climber over in various places. We were here last month and I loved Bunbury. I'm now back in the Hunter Valley in NSW.
A day trip down to Bunbury today and picked up a handful of caches as we toodled about, including this one. I've seen these type of basalt columns in other places before, so interesting to see how this geological feature differed here. Thanks for the EC rjm1
What a great spot for an awesome EarthCache, very interesting and lovely area.
Answers sent, thanks for a great EC rjm1.

I’ve never visited Bunbury before and got a quick chance to check out GZ with RacingStripes and gather answers for the questions. What an interesting spot! Thanks for bringing us here. CO has confirmed our answers, so submitting the log now tftc
Out with hollowfrog to get our earthcache souvenir today. This was our first stop, very windy but enjoyed the activity. Tftc

#2417 - Visiting the west coast all the way from the east coast, enjoying the wildflowers and everything else that comes our way. In particular interesting geocaches, and this was one of them.
I have sent the answers, but as yet no confirmation, so I have to risk my log to be deleted. I like to keep my finds and numbering in order...
My husband and I love beaches and beautiful coast lines and we could have spent hours here, were it not for other commitments. The weather wasn't much help either today, so I couldn't risk getting closer to the rocks. Don't want to break my leg on holiday. Being in Bunbury with a broken down motorhome is bad enough!

We were very happy today when we woke up and found that yesterday's terrible weather had moved on and although it was still very windy and quite cool it was looking like a much better day for caching.
With a list of adventure labs, virtuals and earth caches for today we headed off to try our luck
We headed off down towards gz and found quite a spectacular sight with the waves crashing heavily to the shore in the blustery wind. We were actually quite surprised with what we found at gz and really enjoyed collecting our answers here. We have done our best on this one even though we aren't geologists but are half confident with our answers that have been sent off to the Co, if they aren't correct we will happily delete our log.
Many thanks for bringing us here, a favourite point from us.

Another lovely geologically interesting spot that I may have overlooked, were it not for this Earthcache. Thanks rjm1 for bringing it to my attention, and for approval to log it.
Also huge thanks to Boyzrule5 who brought me to this spot during the WAGB 2022 wonderful weekend of fun and adventure.

I have seen quite a few of these basalt columns in my travels. I visited GZ and took note of the size and shapes of these ones, and have sent my answers to the CO. I have posted a photo but it is a shocker of me. If I really look like that, shoot me now.
Delayed log from WAGB 2022; I struggle with geology so decided to wait until now to answer and log. This area reminded me a little of the tessellated pavement in TAS, I find nature extraordinary and wish I had the brain for it TFT earth caches rmj1
Thanks for the cache we love earth caches. In town for WAGB 2022. I hope the answers are good
Not very sure as I such at geology
1. 4-6 average 5
2. Cooled rapidly - Not much variation in the vertical dimension and not much shrinking in the horizontal direction apart from cracks.

Out and about in Bunbury for the WAGB22 and found this earth cache. Answers sent and confirmation received. Thanks for the information. ??

The day finished with a great dinner at the Bowls Club in town catching up and chatting with old and new friends.
i had an absolute blast today collecting 27 finds, 10 adventure labs and 0 DNF’s.
Thanks rjm1 for placing Bunbury Basalt for me and others to find.

Stopped here on our bike ride to look at the unusual formations on the coastline. Answers sent. Photo of Mrs O sizing up the columns attached.
I remember coming here as a little kid and the basalt didn't seem anywhere near as extensive as it does now. Came here to snorkel but the conditions were no good.
TaurusSix and I ventured out onto the basal here to examine them with an eye to ‘finding’ this earth cache.
We spent a while admiring the columns and gathered what information we could to provide the necessary evidence.
Afterwards we ventured along the paths either side, and also saw a kite fly overhead that had captured a small rodent.
Answers sent and photo to follow.

We have just returned from our visit to Western Australia and are now able to put together the information that we gathered for this earthcache. Answers to the questions have been forwarded to the CO. The required photo is included with this log.
This is an interesting part of the coast line to visit - very different to home.
Thanks rjm1 for the earthcache.

Having grown up in Bunbury I have spent a lot of time at and around these rocks. I must admit I have never known much about them until having to figure out the answers to this Earthcache.
Out in the sunshine for a bit of exercise. Have been here many times, but not been into the rocks.

Just over 7 months since we left home and stated our lap, just over half way in our original time allocation and not even close to half way around the country… 25,000 ish km done, gosh we have seen a lot, but there is so much more to see.
Perhaps if/we I stopped looking at so many rocks, trees and beaches we wouldn’t be taking so long…then there are the flowers, old things and street art that keeps catching our attention.. maybe it’s the Geocaches… or the time we have spent prospecting, enriching our lives but not finding anything of material value, it’s all about the journey not the possessions. What ever it is, we are having a bloody brilliant time and I wouldn’t change a thing!
The last few weeks have been a bit blah with some bad news from the east, apologies for the late and generic log, catch up time a lot harder than I thought, I really need to make a concerted effort (even in difficult times) to stay on top of logs answers and photos.
Thanks for being one of the caches we found in the past few weeks.

Enjoyed this cache and the story line that accompanied the description. Question is - when the giant stepped from Ireland to Scotland on the causeway, did he stumble and land up in Bunbury?
Many thanks rjm1 for the entertainment

Very interesting site and great Earthcache, a favourite! We are spending a few days in Busselton and came up to Bunbury for the day. I had no idea that basalt could be found in the area! Very quick reply from the CO, thank you for the cache rjm1.
Did a trip to Bunbury today to complete an earth cache for Earthcache day. It was such a lovely day, so sunny plus we haven’t been to the beach in ages!! Thank you for bringing us here TFTC
Bit of a windy and rough day. Bunbury is well worth the visit. Thanks for bringing us here.
Megawat60 and I are having a day in Bunbury before the long drive back to Yanchep! Playing geotourists, we are discovering places in Bunbury we never knew about, like this Earthcache . Thank you for the learning it gave me, well worth a FP for bringing us here. Answers have been sent.
Out ‘n about with m4yb getting a few caches.
Have been to Bunbury many times, I think the first was in the late 70’s as we ran a hi fi show at the lighthouse motel! Enjoyed the geological lesson as I had no idea about it then. Answers sent by the Geo App.

With a unofficial geocaching event in Collie this weekend Meme28 Kapelula and myself hatched a plan to escape the city for the weekend. We started early this morning after staying in collie overnight. Our is aim to find some caches to fill our challenge needs, old caches, high favourite caches and just whatever else takes our fancy. Answers have been sent for this earth cache.thanks to CO’s for placing these caches for our enjoyment.
Thanks for bringing us here to his interesting place. Found whilst out and about caching on Bunbury and Collie with I C Nothing and Meme28.
A nice stroll with Kapelula and ICNothing picking up flagged caches. Interesting history here! Thank you
I really enjoyed this area. The waves were very impressive and I spent quite some time watching. Thanks for the history and education on these formations.
We were exploring the WA south coast from Albany before flying back home from Perth. We focused our attention to earthcaches as always, our favourite type of geocaching for the learning process and beautiful places it takes us to.
We came by Bunbury today and the 2 ECs attracted us of course. After visiting the ‘punchbowl’ it was unexpected to find these basalt shapes on the beach, which we took pleasure to study. We had seen some beautiful specimen in Madeira and Portugal, and are looking forward to visit the Giant’s Causeway in Ireland one day.
Answers sent to the CO.
Thank you rjm1 for this earthcache, we enjoyed the beautiful beach and the local history info about the place.

I am currently visiting WA from Adelaide for a few weeks, travelling mostly around the southwest, exploring, visiting friends and family and finding a few caches along the way. Yesterday it bucketed down while I was in Bunbury. Today was much better so I went out and found a few more caches.
The basalt columns are quite interesting when you actually get down and have a close look and learn something about them - something I wouldn’t have done if it wasn’t for this earthcache,
Thanks rjm1 for the cache.

Decided on a trip to Bunbury and stopped to grab this earthcache. Must admit I’m hopeless at answering these sort of questions but I will try my best. Very interesting location TFTC rjm1
This cache marks an event that will forever go down in the annuls of history. I can now say I was there for such important events to the species like the day the Snuggie was invented, the day internet porn could be hidden from your kids, the day people realised that diet-coke tastes like $#!t and now finally the day when Mrs Woodyrothwell gave a favourite point to an EarthCache.
Now why is that such an auspicious event? The reason is because my wife absolutely hates EarthCaches. She hates doing them, she hates the look of the icon on the map and she’s even started taking to kicking rocks just because they are rocks.
There is no hiding her disappointment when I ask things like what colour is that or does it feel rough . You’d think someone dropped a bag of rainbow coloured testicles on her head. Each and every EarthCache I have done with her has always been followed with the threat of divorce or cot revenge. Until now....
I think her exact words were “This place is awesome and needs a favourite point”. I didn’t have to bother her for an answer which meant everything was perfect. As we left she then said “That was a really cool spot but if you ever take me to another EarthCache you’re a dead man”. tftc

Found while on holiday visiting family. Greetings from New Zealand, have emailed the answers and we will add our photo in a few days. Great Earthcache, worthy of a favourite.
Another walk up the beach. I do love basalt columns, and the different locations they end up. Wouldn't have known these were here if not for the Earthcache. Thanks

We had left camp and were on our way to stay in Bunbury for a bit. As we are staying on the coast we went to have a look at this nearby feature. The place was interesting and so different from areas nearby. Answers to the questions were worked out and sent to the CO. Thank you to rjm1 for showing this different part of the Bunbury coast.
We left camp and headed for Bunbury. Doing this earth cache was a lot of fun as it is a different sort of feature. Thanks for bringing us here to look at this place. TFTC.
Struep and me had a short visit to Bunbury Beach and completed this great earthcache! We already saw those stones in Vietnam (Gang Da Dia), quite interesting that those appear at so many places worldwide!
