Logs
Had to scramble around a bit before we found this one. Got caught by a muggle who was very curious about what we were up to. Managed to vaguely refer to playing a game before he moved along
Sent in a minicacher to find this one who reported nothing so we went off looking at other nearby fallen mamaku. Shortly later an adult look revealed the cache exactly where I previously pointed the child at . Tftc
Yay! Ive had a lovely time exploring this area but this is the first hide that Ive found. No success at the homestead view or the weka one unfortunately. Beautiful birdsong getting cancelled out a bit with a festival in Petone that I can hear from here (gosh- I think my son mentioned something about going to that- hope hes got ear plugs! Yeah right!)Great spot here for a breather! Many thanks. Log a bit damp but writable
An afternoon exploring up the Te Whiti Riser with rattll. This was the second of a trio coming down the fire break. Down the side track to GZ. Misread the hint, spent several minutes looking in wrong places before rattll made the find. All good in the container. Tftc!
The weather was slightly marginal, but in the end, matagouri and I decided we'd take a chance that it wouldn't rain, and went for a walk on the Te Whiti riser track. Although it was fairly windy, we managed to complete the walk without getting wet at all.A straight forward find once we followed the gps rather than the clue. Thanks for setting this up
Have been meaning to get up here for years and today is that day. Log still nice and dry after all this time.
Found on the 26th, logged a few days later. After finding cubbies rest a few days before, it was a natural upgrade to head to Scouts Rest. Nice Hide, tftc.
I almost got to this cache on a previous visit to the area but aborted due to being tight on time. Today I made a beeline for this cache from the Whites Line East entrance which was a good climb. Caches that are located near seats are great because it provides the perfect place for signing duties. The cache was located quite quickly and seems in decent condition. I'm not sure why it's taken me so long to get to some of these caches in the Waiwhetu hills but over the last few weekends I've been addressing that. A good spot for a cache so thanks for bringing me here.
After a string of bad luck, this was our first find for this Wellington trip. Thanks!
Here for the day to see my daughter performing at the Wellington fringe. Headed up to the walking tracks. Was pleased as found 12 out of 14 caches. Good work out on the way up. Such great views over the valley. Cache all fine. TFTC
Visiting Wellington for WENZ 2018 Mega Event. Last found for the day, it was dark already. TFTC.
Wicm Jnr and I were out on a stroll up the Riser and back down the firebreak; took a side trip off the firebreak to find this. Interesting bit of history! These tracks aren't on my maps and I hadn't seen the entrance map so they are all new to me. TFTC.
I hadn't realised that this was so far off the firebreak. I was confused when I got to the clearing and hadn't seen a side track further up. I eventually figured out that I needed to go down the track off the clearing and soon found that it turned in the right direction and I arrived at the GZ. A bit of hunting and soon had the cache in hand. TFTC
A short diversion from my regular morning run route took me to this peaceful spot. Would have enjoyed a sit down but feared that I would lollygag all day, so replaced the cache and went on my way again. TFTC!
Dexter the Border Collie had such a good time up here yesterday, we decided to come back today and have a look for this one.
Thank you

#2428 Went for another wander in the hills after work with the intention of finding a few more caches- in particular this one and Cubbie's Rest which ended up being all I had time for anyway before having to get to another engagement. Was a relief to have some downhill at this point. Decent climbs, these hills! TFTC!
Made a loop of our walk today by continuing on from Cubbies Rest and back down to this one before continuing along the Haywards Track. We initially looked at the wrong hint object and I discovered what a thought was a nano. How mean to place such a tiny cache here I was thinking as I twisted it to open it only to have it disintegrate in my hand. Oh no it's not a cache its possum bait! Once we realised the errors of our ways and moved on to the right hint object it was an easy find. TFTC
The helpful hint was appreciated here although I did find my GPSr to be in agreement with the coordinates. It was nice to have a wee side trip to break up the relentlessness of the climb up the fire break.
Easy find, but a long slog up the track, phew good place to rest cache in good condition TFTC 72
#2035. Set off in the early afternoon from Te Whiti Park and headed up the firebreak picking up caches en route to check on one of my puzzle finals and also to put out a new cache. Certainly a steep track up here. After hours on the hills my legs are really feeling it now. Slipped off the main track to find this one. Didn't find the cache in first few places checked so read the hint and quickly in hand after that. Signed the dry logbook. Useful to have a seat available to sit on while signing the log. Returned cache as found. Thanks for the cache.
A lovely walk along the Wainui hills today with tmann421.
A nice quick find here.

Good find while in the area with Just-Lookin today.
Quick look soon had the container found.

Quick find after walking up the path, some of those steps were a bit step. Tftc
Thanks for the cache. An easy once we started looking near the right bench.
No resting for me as I'm on my way down and in a hurry. Easy find so thanks for that TFTC!
After getting to the big pond I decided to take a short side trail to get this one. A quick find. TFTC
First find of the day with LCBuilder on our way up to Aerial View 2 cache! Easy find, TFTC
Found it a while ago forgot to log it online great cache found it by accident.
#1316 Took me a little while to find this one - it was in the logical place of course. TFTC
The final cache for my sortie today. This one took the longest to find, but I got there in the end. Thanks to the Scouts who placed the seat, and whoever has taken the time to put the steps in - much appreciated on the way back to the car! TFTC as well - slowly getting them collected..
nice to take a side track out of the sun for a bit. dobby had a swim in the pond. now back up we go.

ahh this takes me back to my days as a scout, walking through the bush and getting tangled up in supplejack whilst looking for a suitable bivvi site cheers for the cache!
Was walking from the top of the Wainui hill to Waiwhetu today, so this was on my list to get. No great problems, but couldn't figure out what the hint items was (lots of different fallen trees). After a quick google, the cache was nicely in hand (although I didn't really want to put my hand in [:p]). Great walkways, but a bit muddy today. TFTC.
Continued on up the track from Cubbies Rest. Another fairly decent climb up the firebreak. Joined some muggles on the last steep stretch and was pleased that the three trim girls struggled just as much as me! I really don't like hills, clay tracks or spiders!! I ended up over-thinking at GZ. Finally got there though. TFTC
A soggy morning for being out but we needed the exercise...and we got it! TFTC
On a protracted climb up the hill, we managed to grab this one on the way to cubbies rest. tftc
I had been holding off on a re-attempt on this one in view of the fact that the big storm hit this area quite badly, so I wasn't sure whether it was advisable to attempt the trip to the cache.
So thanks for the previous log confirming all was well.
As it turns out the storm and by the look of it some cleanup work afterwards has actually made hunting easier by clearing away some of the vegetation.
Last time I didn't know what the hint item was, so was looking for any trees which fitted the other part of the hint, the only problem being that that word is out of date as reported in other logs.
This time I was better informed and found it after a short search now I knew what I was looking for!
Cache is in excellent condition.
Track was a bit muddy in places, not too bad but wear suitable shoes and take care on the downhill.
After mentioning this cache to a friend involved in scouting (who has some interest in caching but whom I have not quite got converted to a cacher yet!) I was asked for the background to the title of this and Cubbies Rest, I will email the owner but there is probably no reason why the answer couldn't be posted publicly for everyone's interest.
A trackable that I had thought I had lost but now located paid a visit.

Yet another early-morning hike to keep the streak alive. Lovely morning to be up here ... especially for August! Arrived at GZ and looked for a likely spot. Found quickly. Cache in good nick and log pretty-much diy-as-a-bone.
TFTC!
TFTC!
Looked but rather dark and damp today (even at 1pm) so may have missed it if camo'd like 'Worth the Effort'.
Need to try again maybe with torch or in summer.

Climbed up the the L.M, but nothing there. Saw the cache on the way back, at the foot of a fallen M.
I'd call that a lieing down Mamuku, not leaning Knew my years in scouts and exploring the King Country bush would come in handy one day. TFTC
I tried Uncle Google too while at GZ. but my technology wasn't up to it - at least I know the cache is still there!
Lovely spot in the bush. Searched for a while without success. A lack of botanical knowledge rendered the hint useless, until I realised that a lack of knowledge in almost anything can be overcome with technology and Uncle Google. The cache was soon in hand and I now know a little bit more about New Zealand's flora. TFTC.
I was desperately seeking a cache to get my souvenir for 12/12/12 as I couldn't get to the event.
Unfortunately this wasn't the one.
I was not a good Scout as I was not well Prepared and didn't know what the hint item looked like, now to my dismay I find that the is a picture in a previous log I could have used, though I would have been unable to access it in the field. But looking at the pic I thought I had looked there, maybe not so will have to do the hike again for another try.
So demoted myself to the Cubbies and had success there so finally got my souvenir!

The mamaku was leaning more than I thought at first. But found it safely tucked away under bark. TFTC
After Saturday's rain, the geo-boys really needed to get outside.
Picked up an extra kid on the way over.
Figured we really should get these caches...
1x Kea Leader,
2x Cubs,
1x Kea.
Really needed the rest after the climb up here.
Now heading for the beach for an ice-cream.

We walked up to the fire break (pretty steep in places) then down to this cache. It took a little bit more to find Cubbies Rest, not helped by the poor reception in the bush. I was inspecting the wrong hint object, when Streetwalker hit plastic.
We then descended on this track, and were relieved we had come up the fire break as it was quite steep and very muddy in places.

#3813. Didn't take too long to get up here from Cubbie's rest. A nice patch of bush to search. TFTC.
Had a bit of a rest here and talked to a local who was passing by. Nice little hide. TFTC
[Looped around after finding Cubbies Rest. Quite a slog up the firebreak but once back onto the singletrack it was a very enjoyable walk. Took a few minutes to find the well hidden cache. TFTC] - hint object is now horizontal rather than leaning.
Took us some time to work through all the leaning trees but success at last! Tftc

Walked up to the Summit Different cache from Whites Line East. It was geat to have a breather on the way up. Had to look in a few places before the cache finally saw the light of day. TFTC ds8300

Nice day for a climb up the hill with Downunder Wanderer. Clue was only partially correct, so took a while to find this well-hidden cache. And again, yet another cache too small for TBs - well at least it had three visitors! TFTC!
