Phew! lucky I did my PQ ahead of my holiday . The cache is still obviously waiting collection by the owner and I was still able to get my name on the logbook. Lovely old bridge and a welcome little walk after too much driving around.

Oh that is a shame. We have stopped here several times on our trips through the gorge as it is a great stopping poiunt, but either not had the info to search or too many visitors around. Lucky that we finally had the time to pick this one up. We had to wait for muggles to move on, but easily found after that. TFTC, very sorry to see it go.
What a awesome spot. Would of loved to continue further up the track but only had a very limited time. Soon found the cache as CB admired the bridge. Was a little nervous walking back as this massive bridge only had a weight limit of 10 people. Will be back another day for the cache further up the track so looking forward to a return visit. TFTC.
Sign log and cache in good order See taybee Log as we did it at the same Time

Should have read the previous log and would not have scrambled that far up the hill. But great fun, a good view over the bridge and worth the effort. Thanks for placing the cache. but with our tight schedule we are not able to search the other cache further up the track. At least a good excuse to come back. TFTC
Visiting from UK. Hired a sleeper car and travelling round the north island seeing the sights, visiting a few friends over here and hopefully picking up a few caches. Been up north and seen some wonderful sights, done some walking and learnt some information about the country and it's inhabitants. Came back to our friend in Auckland. Went to the Bunker Folk club at Devonport Monday night, excellent. Setting off for Gisborn to see more friends and visiting places recommended by our friend. Stayed at the DoC camp site last night at Matata. The wind was blowing a gale and the rain poured down but we were snug in the sleeper. Awoke to a sunny but cold moring and birds playing havock with the neighbours food and possessions the left out last night. Helpful camp warden advised to go by the gorge rather than the coast Road if we wanted to get there today. Stopped off at a few of the picnic spots to see the sights snd pick up a few caches. Walked over the bridge but either my gps was playing up or the scramble up looked a bit too daunting for us oldies. Lovely spot though, thanks for bringing us here
Whakatane trip, the mission was 24 geocaches in 24 hours. It was epic, we got 27. This was Number 27 find. Just had to 'do one more'.... much to Dragons dismay of having to turn gps back on, aptly numbered as this last 48 hours were a TKO on geocaching. It definitely is more fun finding them than logging them
After a two day trip around East Cape and a full on weekend convention in Gisborne we are on our way home to Rotorua through the gorge. Lots of caches to pick up on the way.
Well, here's another interesting historical site that we did not know about. Walked down to the bridge and Mr S took the hint a bit too seriously and was bush bashing towards the sky when suddenly muggles appeared from two different directions. Mrs S called out to him to keep quiet, muggles around, and then made like a photographer with Mr S 's camera, taking arty farty shots of bolts and cables. Fortunately they all soon moved on and the hunt resumed. Finally Mr S realised his mistake and de-scrambled to where he thought in the first instance the cache would be and sure enough. Aarrrggghhh....don't you hate it when you overdo it and make it harder than it needs to be.
Thanks Geckoh. Another smilie on the road home. Thanks for taking us there. Gets a FAV.

Not on our way to Tauranga today as we couldn't get over the bridge!!!! To retrieve the hidden treasure as the workmen. Had it closed off today when we were there. Quite disappointed! But what an interesting bridge..I can see why it is called a harp. Bridge. We are used of suspension bridges that hang down in an arc and wires down from that to support the decking. Where as this one the wires hung down from the pillars and under the decking and back up to other pillar. Quite interesting. Thanks for this
We would both like to give this cache a favourite. Mr P for the location and generous size of the container and Mrs P for the history and the sight of Mr P rolling down the slope. thanks for the fun.
Logged as no 300....but not found as that!! Down on a family camping trip in Opotiki and we decided to head out for a walk. It was a very hot day and after a few days of late nights and early mornings, the younger members of the caching team were a little short on patience...the heat and the amount of blackberry on the track after the cache meant that we didn;t get too far beyond the cache. Signed with Gracermr and Poppymjr.

Most Christmas holidays involve a road trip of some description and this year is no exception. Today we were driving between Whakatane and Gisborne, and grabbing as many caches along the route as we could. A quick walk to GZ and across the bridge, work is taking place at the far end, but it is not fenced off and you can get past the scaffolding. After Mr P scrambled up the bank, it was not long before he had the cache in hand. A great spot for a cache - a favourite point added! TFTC!

Thanks for bringing us down here to the bridge. Awarded a favourite for location. Mr ToT kept scrambling as he chased the GPS needle until Mrs ToT queried his intentions as she stood with cache in hand. TFTC!!!
One of the workman working on the bridge when I got there is from Tauranga. Not this one but the one on the coast.
Out: TB.
Cheers for the cache.

Well...... Thanks for bringing me down here. I would never have come to this spot. Lovely old bridge and perfect spot for a cache.
We stopped here today on a very rainy day, driving from Ohope to Gisborne and beyond.
Despite my GPS not wanting to find satellites, and my iPhone waving madly about the place I still managed to find the cache.
I took the Aussie micro coin, and left the Norfolk travel bug.
Thanks for the cache!

#4839. Spent quite some time searching high and low for this one, eventually Mr h overshooting by some margin. Meanwhile Mrs h was directing the aim to the right level. Nice hide.

GPS was flat, but luckily I remembered the description so it was still an easy find. TFTC!
Didn't fancy climbing up the bank - bit too much for a senior citizen - but enjoyed the walk.
Jandals not the best footwear for this cache! Got it all the same, TFTC
Super spot and a quick chance to stretch the legs, though didn't enjoy the blackberry in the hand during the scramble.

LOVE THIS GORGE!
Having been through a couple times now, I have looked for reasons to stop. Thanks
Traced the track with my GPS, will update the OSM database when I find time.
Almost lost the cache too!

This was a fun spot to find a cache. Picked up the trackable and will deposit it on our way home (heading north-west) on Tuesday. TFTC
Quick and easy find while driving back to gizzy. Good spot, a very old bridge indeed!

Impressive. Loved the short walk, loved the bridge and loved the container and its hideout. Left a trackable for the next intrepid explorer to find. Hopefully they have better luck than the settler farmers of days gone by. TFTC

We love this spot and now there is something else to look for here. Just regret not having any goodies for the lovely big container.
Great location fantastic bridgeawesome whether cool river and cache interesting site
Lovely bridge but a bit worried about the emaciated super friendly dog there. If she is still there tomorrow we will take her to SPCA TFTC
Wingnut rocks and Cocky jocky went and found while i had to answer to the call of nature
What a spot, great bridge. Iam amazed at the effort our pioneers put in to buid this great country...andthefact that this one was built, and never really was needed (lets face it, not alot of civilization over this bridge now LOL) makes it even better. Great cache, loved the location and the walk...little fella was in his element. Thanks!
Really enjoyed this cache - it was a sight to behold to see Mr Raconteur disappear into the hillside with only his shoes showing. Apparently the cache rolled away a bit... Out: TB In: toy TFTC
Interested in bridges, great engineering ideas here. Great spot takes you away from the road, a short walk, great view standing from the deck. 8th for the day through the gorge TFTC
We went down for a break and a walk. Its a nice bridge.
Thanks for the Cache. Greetings from Switzerland.

We had never done this short walk before but highly recommend it to others. Very interesting signboards explaining the history and a fantastic old suspension bridge to walk over.
Many thanks
Many thanks
7590 Lovely old swinger… great views of the river, will have to complete the loop track on a future visit, TFTC.
Excellent cache, all the right ingredients. A little bit of history, a magical spot. We couldn't quite call this a drive by cache, could we but GC got as close as he could
10:20. Gotta love these drive bys. Cheers, GC. Lots of photos, favourite cache status!
Nice easy find after a quick scramble. Great scenery from the bridge. Been meaning to stop here for a while. TFTC
Couldn't get up the Motu road for a bike today due to flooding so came here instead and after finding cache biked up the Tauranga valley track. River was fair roaring past. Very nice hiding place made to measure for a cache hide.
Thanks again Geckohs

First to find before the publication of the cache
Second to find after publication of cache.
How come will you ask, well I was hunting a spot for a cache and saw this good one and when I checked it out there was already a container with all the geocaching gear in it. So I decided I would sign the log before publication and then after again, but missed the publication and a lucky one got the true FTF
Anyway it was funny, it is not every day that one lifts a cache that is not yet published without any hint or contact with owner.
TFTC Geckoh, did finally revisit it.
Cheers
