Fallen branches around the area made it tricky to access. But all still nice and dry. Thanks
4-week family trip through NZ - Find #21!Short break in the drive from Whangarei to Coromandel, and a quick cache find. Nice to find a proper "small" cache instead of the listed micro .TNLN, TFTC!
#13,947. I have been up in Northland on a work trip and now heading back to Auckland. I stopped here previously for a look on my last trip through Whangarei but checked the wrong tree both times. Read some past logs and searched further along in a tricky to access area. Soon spotted the cache just before a heavy shower of rain arrived. Signed the log and replaced as found. Thanks Riser5 for hiding it here.
Quick park and grab on the way to Ruakaka to get some caching in before Cyclone Gabrielle hits.
Barking up the wrong tree, so pleased to never have to go in there again. Not my first look either previously logged DNF.
Heading out of Whangārei now. We disturbed a bunch of chickens when pulling in. Quick find by Ⓑarefootguru Ⓘnfoferret ⒸrystalFairy beside the busy highway… with a nice reserve just down the bank. TFTC Riser5
Final day (3) of our three day Geocaching trip to Whangarei. This stage included a large loop to the West of Whangarei picking up solved puzzles and then heading south getting some of the most northern caches in Auckland and then heading back to the airport for a flight back to Wellington. It rained on and off through the morning and some caches were done in pouring rain whilst others were in gaps in between. We signed the log as BIC for BFG, Infoferret and CrystalFairy.
Eventually found the cache on the way home, but wondering why it wasn't hidden in the pretty park nearby?

13:42 Final day of a 3 day expedition to the areas north of Auckland with Crystal Fairy and Barefootguru, most logs signed as BIC to save space and time. The focus of the trip was to find a number of puzzle caches solved over the last couple of years, plus other caches of interest we passed. The rain has arrived with a vengeance, so being somewhat selective in the ones we stop for & how long we search...
Noisy cocks in layby, being fed by people.
TFTC Riser5 for placing this cache, number 11985 for me.

That was a awesome find on our travels home back to auckland catch hidden really good. But isn't micro lol.
Cache in good condition but the overall area was very wet. Thanks to CO for the placement.
Found it on the way home. We didn't have a pen so didn't sign it. Good little find!

Great view this morning. On the road back to Taupō and grabbing a few along the way. Quick find to start the day. Love the chickens here .
On our way home south stopped here to wait for our friends. Had a quick look for this cache, nice hide, bank was very slippery. Thanks for the cache.
We had plenty of time today so we took our time picking up some caches as we meandered our way towards Waipu.
This was in a different place from what we expected but we managed to grab it from behind.
Thanks for putting this here

All good here. Got in just before loads turned up, especially the guy who I think took a leak nearby. Chickens were watching me sign the log. TFTC
North Island Campervan trip Day 10
After the fantastic holiday I had a few months ago traveling around the South Island, making the most of one of those incredibly cheap campervan deals available at the time, I figured it was worth taking a week off work before the stresses of the usual holiday period to enjoy some of the delights to be found around the top of the North Island.
This would be a great chance for me to seek out some targeted caches such as the TMGT ones as well as some that would help me with my Jasmer grid, missing minutes (for a couple of challenge caches I'm working on) and any other caches that caught my eye.
Last night was spent near the centre of Whangarei, so that I could spend a few hours caching around there before starting my drive back to Auckland. That was always assuming the weather played ball of course lol!
So now I was hitting the road to head south again. This would give me the chance to get a few of the roadside caches I didn't get a few days ago whilst heading north.
A nice big layby, with a couple of cars already parked up in it awaited my arrival here. Walking over to GZ, it took a few minutes to locate the cache and attend to the usual caching admin here but once the log was signed, the whole lot was replaced back exactly as found ready for the next searcher.
Thanks for setting up this cache

Seemed like a plan to stop here at this nice parking spot on our way south. It was and we got a nice little cache too! TFTC
Nice find while in the area with tmann421 today
Enjoying the trip north and the caches

Nice find with woolwood9 today.
*We enjoyed the drive / walk around the area.*
Stamped logs as tm/ww NZ which may just look like a black smudge on plastic logs!
TFTC
*Haha we did everything wrong here and made this cache so much harder than it should have been but got there eventually!*

Looks like it was placed yesterday condition is so good. Plenty of noisy fowl nearby
Still a few caches short of my aim today to get the final souvenir in the Mystery at the Museum challenge so picked a few easy looking ones on the way home this evening. Being winter it was dark so no view today. GAR located the cache, I hadn't looked far enough before aiming for a different approach (which didn't work either). Thanks for placing Riser5!
Headed up the hill in the dark with my daughter leading the way. She had the torch and I helped her up.
Nice easy find. We finding them jewels.

found on our way home to Te Awamutu after visiting the cape for the weekend TFTC
Nice spot for a quick lunch on way back to Auckland;) the baby chickens were great company
I was going South, so I parked in the right place and walked over to GZ. A giant mower was working in the park, so I stood still every time he approached. I heard chickens cackling in the distance and even a few eggs laid willy-nilly. I was led to one place, but didn't find the cache until I moved to another. TFTC.
After staying with family, overnight, out Dargaville way it's time to head for home. I decided to do so via Whangarei. It's a splendid day weather wise to be out and about collecting some finds. Anyway, I thought I would grab this one on my way out of Whangarei. I parked up at the lookout and took in the view. I then headed down to the picnic tables, only to find the GPSr indicated back up the slope. So, I made the short climb up to access GZ. Once I was in the right spot, it was a super quick find. Cheers for the cache placement!
On our trip thru NZ we visit a lot of places and see many spectacular locations.
This cache was one of our stopps thanks a lot to the owner.

Northland Day 5: Last day in Northland before heading back to Auckland. Started off on a foggy morning in Whangarei to pick up some of the Onerahi caches, before slowly working my way to town and heading south to Auckland through the Bream Bay Beaches. Lovely weather today, and a great finale to the Northland trip!
The following is the specific log for each cache:
Apologies for the repeated log for the next few caches. These caches were mostly the park and grabs for the GB series, so really nothing much to report other than that they were all easily found despite the heavy traffic on the SH1 today. Thanks for the series, Riser5, for breaking the monotony of the journey south of Whangarei.

22490 Traveling through New Zealand to see nice people and places. Also to find some geocaches.
Today we went from Paihia back to Auckland. But first we visited the treaty ground museum. Around there were the first 2 caches of today. Along the road we had again the popular GB1 trail caches, but now on the other side of the road but also many other stops were made on the sunny day.
Finaly 1 cache near the hotel was found.
Most caches were a fast find, some took more time. Stamping on waterproof paper stays difficult.
Riser5 TFTC and the fun it brought us. Theo

Slowly making our way back south again so I can catch my flight even south-er! Still time for a few along the way to enjoy TFTC!!
Tried a couple times for this one..today I was lucky thanks Riser5 signed and returned as found
Yay! A smilie after a DNA a long time ago when we were up here. This time all was good and muggle free. Thanks for the cache
Nice chance to stretch the legs briefly on a drive back home from a break in paihia. Good views, TFTC
Find number 3948. I had come up to the Country Music Festival in Paihia and caching my way home. I pulled up in the car park and a motor home was there. As I stopped they drove off. After negotiating my way thru the chickens I approached the GZ from below. The rain had made the ground slippery and I used the nearby fence as an aid. Following the signing i returned by the easier route. Another motor home was pulling up as I got back to the car. Thank you for the placement.
Lots of trees to check and lots of steep hills to climb. Also lots of chickens. Amazing view!
Lessons learned: wait until the GPS got you right before you run for the cache. I could have reached GZ much easier, if I just could be more patient. One I found the right tree I found a lot of spider webs and eventually the cache...

A quick detour from work to get a close one to keep the 2017 streak going. Only the chooks about, but they weren't very concerned about somebody snooping in the bushes. With the good clues was a quick find.

After 2 DNF's so far today whilst travelling South we finally came up trumps here and collected our daily cache. The rain is setting in and the view is disappearing. TFTC
Thanks for the cache. Travelled to Whangarei so many times but never stopped in here.
A nice park and grab after a big caching day for us. Cache in a nice dry secure home.tftc
Quick find heading home. Contemplated taking the chicken eggs that were at GZ but decided to leave them be
Back in town after a day caching around the Tutukaka coast. Despite driving past this stop on countless occasions, I don't recall actually ever stopping here. I guess you don't need a rest break when you live 20 minutes south of town.
The inhabitants were clearly up for a quick game of statues as they started to follow me and then freeze as I turned around to look at them. After tiring of this, I went and quickly found the cache. TFTC

Was heading out on my way back to Auckland. Tried to find this one, but no joy...but didn't look long either :-p
Ok LOL this is the biggest 'micro' I have ever found.... if found smalld that would have been able to hide inside this one. Grabbed from harbour side of tree to avoid being spotted.... had chickens folliwing me the whole time- I think they could sense my fear (I have a weird phobia about turkeys, geese and chickens looking at me. Yay for traumatic childhood moments)
Todays plan was for a further attempt to increase my unique Minutes for the 400 Minute Challenge in Manawatu. I only needed an extra dozen or so to tip me o=ver the magic mark and, with a plan to head further North than before (whilst a cacher), there was a good chance of success. Built the plan aroubnd the barrier caches spread evenly along the upper S H 1 and also another couple of Letterbox hybrids and an Earth cache at Hikurangi. The hope to also fit in Waipu Cove and Mangawhai Head was a step to far. Settled for 53 caches all up, 23 new minutes so mission accomplished and I can now claim another D/T for my grid. Many thanks to all the C Os whose caches I found today. Got to see some cool sights of lower Northland and help my little missions along. Got all the North ones on the way up and the South ones on the way back down. Yay

Great views from up here, beautiful. Took a couple of empty mint tins (which I ended up using later in the day, (karma)
