The Nepean River caches were always problematic due to fluctuations in the river level. It looks like they're all gone now. I've decided not to replace them since I'm no longer geocaching. Thanks to all who went and took a look.
I reckon this could have been taken by the floods of February. Had a look around for 5 minutes, plenty of broken and damaged trees but couldn't see a cache.
It was the day before christmas and all through the house everyone was cooking, time for me to leave the couch!
So I picked out a few caches I wanted to find, taking me to some great locations leaving the world befind.

#2620 found on an afternoon out with teamMerlin & spotted the container but it doesn't have anything to stop it from getting wet or sunburn
With cache in hand we signed the log and replaced as found. Both the cache and log are in good condition. Thanks for bringing me to the area and thanks for placing the cache bikerbuddy

In Penrith for some car repairs and whilst waiting took a walk along the river. Negotiated our way to GZ and after a short search spotted some delicately placed camo and on investigation found what is left of the cache container. With the cache in hand we all signed the log before replacing as found. Both the cache container and log are in average condition and could do with either a container replacement or a new lid - thanks for the cache bikerbuddy.
The following TBs came through for the mileage : Bob geoMinion, Dave geoMinion, Evil geoMinion, Jerry geoMinion, Larry geoMinion, Mary Hyde's Treasure, Stuart geoMinion, teamMerlin's 7 Deadly Ducks Tag (Lust), Vanlith The Youngling, Hidden Creatures Geocoin TB, teamMerlin's Football

As per found log, this has been muggled.
From the remains it looks like it was muggled at least a month ago.

#5989 (2 of 3 today)
Headed out very late today. End result was three finds from four attempts, with the second last in fading light and the last in darkness.
Still, I’m closer to that six thousand Cache milestone.
###END OF CUT AND PASTE SECTION###
Well this is a bit of a walk... Not too hard to find the right path, but as I got close to GZ I started hearing voices. Mother and very young muggles playing at the weir.
Skirted around them and continued on to my target. First thing I saw was half a camo Ed container on the ground and remnants of paper intermingled with the leaves. Did manage to find a larger wad of intact paper, so signed that. Searched for the lid but no luck unfortunately.
So I did an ordinary job of hiding it, but it needs maintenance ASAP.
Light starting to fade on the walk back. And the family still playing at the weir.

Nice spot by Javi, needed to check previous logs for tips as time and weather were against us. Dropped trackable.
As we are currently camped almost on the track to the weir, it beckoned!
We Found it just on dusk, a quick find.
Translation of hint helped.
Now we are real happy campers.

MrT was going canoeing this morning so I handed him the GPS with the co-ords entered in to it. Deciphered the hint and away he went. He canoes around the area regularly so knew where to pull up and head in to search. The GPS was being temperemental and jumping around but eventually it settled and MrT saw a likely spot. Cache retrieved, log signed and TB collected. TFTC
On our recent trip away we picked up a trackable whose goal was to be put near waterways so this cache fitted the bill perfectly. We left our car at the suggested spot but were unaware of the steps near the bridge that accessed the western side of the river. We were directed by 1 of the workmen working on the new pedestrian bridge. From the steps it was an easy walk to GZ. TFTC. It took us to an area that we had never visited before.
Streak Day #1404 - Bit of a walk with dave8153 for this one but dave8153 came up with the goods, not a bad location. TFTC
Headed out to find this cache today with Snoopy1976. After some bush bashing along the river, we came across the trail which was a much easier walk. Once at GZ, the cache was an easy find. Now for the walk back and we just followed the path back. TFTC
A bit of a walk - good exercise. We spent too long looking around at the wrong level. Dan suddenly noticed a good looking spot and yes, there was the cache looking out from the "window" of its hiding hole. TFTC

#4 Cache for Today
#245 Caches this Year
#837 in Total
I have been wanting to find this one for awhile and decided to do it while at riding it is a good stopping spot for a "weiry" rider.
I found a note in the log book "I found this" with a mobile phone number. Good to see someone has found it and not been disrespectful and removed or damaged it.
Thanks for the cache

I've had my eye on this since it reached 12 months of being unloved. I was actually very close to making a short detour last time I visited the in-laws nearby, but in hindsight I'm lucky I waited for the CO to replace the cache. Once I saw the update, I knew I had to act quickly before someone beat me to claim the unloved days.
Today I had made arrangements to meet up with a fellow cacher a bit further south just after lunch. So with the morning free, it was perfect to come for a walk along the Napean. I parked at the recommended spot and ventured towards the river, expecting to be able to follow it all the way to GZ. I now see what the CO meant about the footbridge construction, so needed to make a slight detour. I think this turned out well as it led me along a very well formed track, compared to the heavily overgrown area next to the river.
The in-laws had mentioned that it was possible to walk across the weir from the other side, but I'm glad I came this way as it was an enjoyable walk and I got to keep my feet dry.
Thanks for replacing this cache bikerbuddy and bringing me to this pleasant area.

Replaced today. I will update the page to address access issues caused by the construction of the new footbridge and terrain changes due to previous floods.
Went to grab this one today to bring it home for drying out, but I couldn't find the cache where it should be. It's either been muggled in the last week, or sometime in its history, someone has found a 'better' location for it. I'll try to get it back into operation in the next fortnight.
I have a few fears…heights is the big one and I think everyone knows that. But I have two others…swimming and dancing. Well, they are not fears – I just don’t like doing them and will do anything to avoid either or both. Especially at the same time! I mean, if my life depended upon it, I could swim to save myself, and I actually could do a pretty mean Charleston if I was at gunpoint. It's possible! My other fear is geocaches that I build up in my mind to be either impossible or dangerous to my health…
What’s your point Alnic?
I came out this morning to shop for a wet suit. Yes, a wet suit. Why would someone who hates swimming need a wet suit? Well, the gentleman in my put my hand up to be the one who goes in the water for the next two weeks while our Year 2 students do swimming scheme.
Having found the right piece of attire, (black is slimming, I hear), I realised that I could have a bit of fun before heading home to my report writing duties. I decided to check on my Close to the Edge series – coordinates with the new Garmin, logs, locations and containers. I started at no.8 and finished at no.1 and looked to the north…towards a cache that has been calling me for years. I can say “years” now because I just turned two as a geocacher. I also just turned 51 as a human.
THE WEIR!
I had imagined all kinds of dangers along the riverside, but I was on my mountain bike and figured “What the hey!” It wasn’t so bad. I lost the track a couple of times and had to drag myself and the bike both under and over some fallen trees, but I got through. I made to a clearing that CLEARLY suggested that there was an easier way to get to the weir! Damn! At least I’ll have an easier exit. Half way into the ride, I realised that I had no pencil. I wasn’t going back for one, so I just started thinking of how I would beg the CO for mercy and maybe just take a photo.
If you are after any river stones for a garden feature, this is the place. Amazing! Approaching GZ, knowing the translation of the hint, I could actually see the cache from about 10 metres away – tell-tale blue clips were evident. I retrieved the container and it was obvious that the inside was quite moist. How annoying that I had left in my car everything to replace the wet contents. There was even a pen, but there was no point in trying to use it. I exited via the caravan park. TFTC and a favourite point for the adventure.

g'day bikerbuddy, refer to my notes on my find this morning, cache was intact in its hiding place but was full of water, I suspect when they released water from Warragamba it reached the cache. Might be a good cache for water proof paper but then again it could be awhile before it gets wet again
With my car safely delivered to Nepean Motor Group for a service. This was my target on my walk about.
I walked up to and over the Nepean river bridge (great western highway) turning left and dropping down to the river bank. Set off on a path back under the bridge the easy going didn't last long It was a scramble over flood debris and an overgrown path for a while before I found a more usable path with pebbles covered in wire netting to make my way down. Disturbed a water dragon and numerous skinks along the way.
Finally got below the weir and approached GZ I began wondering if the cache had survived the recent flooding caused when water was released from Warragamba dam. The effects of the water ravaging could be seen everywhere.
As I changed position around the area I saw a colour that didn't belong. On closer inspection I found the cache was in a secure position and hadn't washed away. Evidence of the flood was present when I retrieved and opened the cache, it was full of water. Contents were slimy to touch. I emptied the water and touch dried the contents. Found I could still make my note within the log book which I signed before replacing. tftc
No evidence of the TB inside that is noted as being within this cache.
My way out I found a vehicle track to follow that took me out of the bush through a local van park. An easier way out but a lot further to walk back around to the Penrith shopping centre waiting for the call my car is ready to pick up.

A return from the dark side (of the river) and a park off Punt Road on the grass (no gate barrier to hinder) on a pleasant sunny winter's afternoon.
Set out and quickly found the track that starts on the southern side of the bridges and meanders alongside the Nepean through, well, not too much to be concerned about. A stop at the weir with a pair of pelicans gliding about on the placid waters to occupy the attention - and the camera - and then to trek to the GZ.
Pebbles, pebbles and pebbles awaiting a misstepped ankle and the 'mushroom was muchly grateful that the hiking pole was in hand (cannot be over careful on the edges of the Penrith wilderness).
The coords were spot on - with a fortuitous westerly sun highlighting a 'suspicious' item for the location.
A different perspective indeed of the weir, tumbling waters a twinkle, and the distant bridges.
An enjoyable afternoon adventure ... Thanks for the cache bikerbuddy.

Nice walk along river, took correct path after studying map. Took time to find. Cache all good.Fav point.Tftc
TFTC - I've never been down this side of the river and it was well worth it! The river stones are amazing! The wildlife is amazing! I hope the TB I've left attracts someone new.
Out and about with pjmpjm who had business in Penrith, we decided to have a look at this cache.
From where we parked it was a 1km walk along a trail that tended to disappear from time to time, but it got us to the weir, quite nice today with a fair bit of water going over the top.
The cache was soon in hand, log signed and returned to its rightful place.
By the way, no sign of the geocoin in the cache.
The return trip was much easier and in fact you could potentially drive almost all the way to GZ but as pjm says no point spoiling the fun for others!
Thanks for the neat cache, enjoyed it.

Had to visit my doctor down in Penrith, so colleague rogerw3 came along to keep me company. We figured we'd check on a few Penrith-area geocaches before and after the main event . . .
Don't know why I never made an effort to find this fairly venerable bb cache. It's always been lurking there on my map, unfound, right at the edge of Penrith, with its feet in the Nepean.
Well, today we parked where the CO suggested and set off on a 1 km trek along the river. At times we lost the 'trail' (if it could be called that) but eventually arrived at GZ, enjoyed the views of the weir, and made the find with no trouble. Interesting place!
Heading back, we had a better idea and made the whole expedition return trip to the car much, much easier. In fact, you could simply drive . . . well, I guess I'll leave that for others to figure out! No sense in spoiling the fun.
All was OK with the cache. Hadn't been found for more than six months. Nice and dry. TNLNSL.
Many thanks to bikerbuddy. Sorry it took us so long to get here . . .

Great spot to visit unless tsunamis are around! Searched around for awhile before spotting a telltale cache sign. Thanks for bringing me here.
After grabbing Bellbird Tunnel to get my Puzzler souvenier, I met iker at the carpark to walk down and find this cache. I'd been putting it off for ages, no idea why, but today I was finally able to tick this one off the list. Really am running out of caches to do now! The cache was bloody hard to get out too! Had a blast twisting my wrist around in the hiding spot. Took TB. TFTC!
I finally managed to make my way to the right side of the weir. Lots of river pebble scrambling along the track to gz.
Now where could it be?
Ah yes, I thought so. Now to get it out... fingers are barely adequate... now for a tool... Ahh that's a BIG spider! It sat with its forelegs crossed waiting for me to finish log duties, leave a trackable and replace the cache so it could spin another web around the container to squick-out the next to find.

TFTC - a little disappointed that there no was trackable after the big trek!!
Signed Log - Left a little Pokemon - Took nothing

Left home early this morning 4:00am, pitch black headed down the thin black line again to Sydney’s Historic West, Especially Richmond and the Penrith areas, Attempted this one after Coffeys Crossing. Could almost see the GZ across the water. A lesson to be learned here, Always check to see if there are parking waypoints before you leave home, Not when you get home, I'll be Back
I came in via the side of the McCarthy college rather than the suggested method. Well it turned into an adventure I wasn't expecting. I came across heaps and heaps of fruit bats, jungle vines for at least 250m, creek crossings, pelicans and lots of pepples of all sizes. I crossed a major trail (who knows where that came in from). I found myself within 15cm of the cache but it didn't occur to me it was on the other side. Before I left I enjoyed the view of the weir on the side I have never been. The pelican flew off and I managed a photo in full flight. On the way back I took a longer route to avoid all the jungle vines but then manged to walk through the bat colony instead. There were bats going everywhere trying to avoid me. I saw a few at my head height. Well worh the adventure. The entire walk in and out took me 90 minutes when I was only expecting it to be 20 minutes for some strange reason. Thanks for the adventure.

This cache had gone, probably in the flood. It's now been replaced with a slightly different hide at the same location, although it's a cheap sistema this time, not like the $20 Seak containers I keep losing here. Hopefully it will be safe for a while now.
The cache is a little tight in, but I retrieved it twice to check. Just remove the rock and wiggle it out.

I was on the river today but have had no time to get to check this cache. I still intend to get there as soon as possible.
It's quite possible, given the level of the river this year, that this one has swum out to sea (whole trees have fallen victim to the floods) I'll have to go check it and think about what to do. Thanks to all who DNFed and let me know there's a problem. Cheers.
I think this cache may be gone as there is a lot of really bad damage in the area of the cache and the first time I went to find it you could not access the area because the water was up to high
We were hoping to do this one today from the Penrith side as we rode along the river walk, but with the river as high as it was there was no chance of being able to cross.
Next time I'll have to read the description before we select caches to do in an area.

I am visiting from Canberra for Christmas and today I went out Geocaching. I followed the directions to the car park and then found I still had about 2.5kms round trip to the cache. I hope to come back some time and do this walk - I'm sure it will be lovely - but today, as a visitor, being my only day here for Geocaching I didn't have time. I wish I had known beforehand how long the walk was and I wouldn't have wasted my time on this one. Anyway, merry Christmas everyone.
Found it after a big bushwalk!! Seems to be knocked down from recent floods but the cache is still in its general area. The trees around it are knocked down / uprooted and should be considered replace or relocating. Took a travel bug and placed money. TFTC
It's here! Quick and easy find once you read the hint!
We came on a blustery winter day but had the most awesome adventure! We fed two bubby cows at the McCarthy college and saw a new caravan park we didn't know excisited! The trailer was bumpy and I wouldn't bring the kids. Maybe my eldest!
We couldn't get the cash out for AGES as the tree had started to grow around it! Lucky Geohubby is very big and strong and with a bit of mucking around he got it!
Left a trackable! And a small toy.
Thanks for the awesome adventure! One of my faves!

Tried this on Saturday, a VERY tricky walk through mud and over trees. Didn't have much time left to find the cache which we couldn't find in the end. Walking back along a wide path to the caravan park made the trip back much more pleasant. Will try again when you have checked the cache.
Finally got this one back up. For anyone looking to do it soon, there is a lot of damage from the recent floods. Trees are down and the mud is thick in some spots. I stopped under the railway bridge on the way back to take a photo of shopping trolleys washed there and began to sink. I got to the top of my boots when I decided I had better move, since there was no sign of stopping. So this could be a mini adventure to find your way from under the bridge to the main track. The walking track has been washed away in spots and is blocked by fallen trees, but I can see evidence that the council is in the process of clearing the debris. Trucks have been through. Much of the wire mesh track laid over river stone is now either covered with silt or torn up.
The hide itself is in the same spot, although there is now a lot of smashed up trees around the cache location. The hide actually survived the flood, but the cache didn't, since it kept getting tossed out of its hide, I supect, by an animal. But I think that if it was an animal it has probably now floated down river on top of of the cache. I'll check that the cache is still there next week.

I disabled this cache because of recent heavy downpours which resulted in a flood in Penrith and unusually high river levels after Warragamba Dam reached capacity and water was released . While river levels have dropped somewhat in the last month, later rain which necessitated further releases from Warragamba have kept river levels unusually high. As a result, the water levels beyond the weir look extremely high still and may even present dangers at the moment. I cannot re-enable this cache until it is safe to replace it, since I am fairly sure that this cache got washed away in the flood.
I am temporarily disabling this cache due to the heavy rains in this area over the last few weeks. Due to the river levels during the Penrith flash flood, I suspect this one may have been washed away. I will reenable it after the weather settles down and I have time to do a cache check. Thanks
Seemed to be a fair bit of water damage to the area and we went with someone who'd found it before. Could be wrong but we think the cache may have gotten lost due to natural causes. TFTH.
Couldn't find the cache. There seemed to be a lot of damage to the trees in the area, so the cache may have disappeared.
found this one after a bad day searching one out of three not good and to find a red belly near this one kept me on my toes.
good spot in the bush for this one

Seeing as the muggle factor was on the rise, I changed the order of the list and headed for this one in the hope most people had gone to work by the time I returned.
Parking in the suggested spot I headed down to the waters edge and followed it downstream. A really nice walk, apart from the rubbish everywhere, and soon I arrived at the weir.
Locating the cache was easy when I got to GZ as it was laying on the ground. On completing the formalities I returned it to a higher elevation where I thought it might have come from but this may need to be checked by the CO.
Grabbed the coin to move on.

Found cache with geo-family while spending weekend in 'the big smoke"!!
Took geocoin and left Small Red geocoin.

Once again I have been down to this cache to fix it up. I placed the cache back in the proper hiding spot. I'm wondering if an animal is doing it. Unfortunately most people are not experiencing the cache as intended.
Tagged along with Webby to find this recently placed geocache. The walk along the river was interesting, with lots of water covering the track in places. The track opened up to a wider fire track that lead us close to the cache. After negotiating the last 60 metres over lots of large rounded stones the cache was quickly in hand. The sound of the water crashing over the weir was quite loud. On our return we found the fire track lead us to the caravan park and a gate that got us back to the bridge. A few hundred metres later we passed by some amarous locals engaged in something I'd only read about in Tangles' geocaching logs - old timers will know what I'm on about. Nice cache and good walk.

An easy find, a nice walk though a bid sodden in many places. No coin within, well, there is now, so the old one may need to be marked as missing.
LOTS of water flowing over the weir today.
Nice spot for a walk.

found reasonably easily, clue helped to narrow the search down. used to come swimming here (many, many years ago) SL TFTC
Had often been on the other side of the river and looked across wondering how to get to this location without walking across the weir. Now we know!! Great little spot. Did find Cache at GZ but out in the open on the ground. Cache contained log book and pen only. If there were any other items in the cache, they have been muggled, sadly! Replaced Cache to location that seemed like it might have been prior to our find. TFTC. Cheers.
What a great cache. Got the latin sorted at home. Arrived here at 0830hrs as the Sun was defrosting everything. Peaceful walk up this side of the river. Magnificent view of the weir from multi angles. All the river pebles have me very intrigued. I noticed alot of foliage and ground debris washed against the trees and wonder how and when this area floods. Will have to research. Great hiding spot. I have never done a hide like that. TFTC. TNLNSL. 2007 Generic Geocoin was not in cache as listed? Maybe someone has taken and not logged? Beautiful Place! Deserves a favourite point!!
I've been down to check this cache this morning. The cache is now back in its correct hiding place. Hopefully it will stay there! I have removed the geocoin from the cache, as per the owner's request. I did not notice any of the other trackables listed for this cache in it.
Such a pretty walk to get to this cache! We were having lots of fun making our way across the river bed stones. We were originally going to try this one at night but during the day was much nicer. Oddly we didn't have to look hard for this one - the cache was sitting on the ground. We hid it again where we thought it was supposed to be but will send a mail to the owner just in case. Took the geocoin in the box, left the penny farthing bicycle travel bug. TFTC!
Once again something weird has happened with this cache. I hope this is not the prelude to another muggling. I'll check it in a few days when I have the time.
please please can the next cacher move the penny farthing tb along...would hate to lose it when its getting close to home....thanks
I checked this cache today because Toriaz found it on the ground earlier this month. From her photos she sent to me, it looks like she replaced the cache in exactly the right position. Despite this, the cache has now been muggled. Given that the cache was left on the ground, and has now been taken from a fairly remote location, it seems someone is playing silly buggers here. I'm going to keep the cache disabled for a little while longer while I decide what to do.
Sometimes I think I must be certifiably mad by now. I was at a fishing course this morning just across the river from this one & decided I should find it before going home. Parked at the suggested spot just as another downpour started. No worries I thought, I've got a rain jacket, shouldn't be a problem to get this one & still stay dry ...
Despite the weather it was a great walk along the riverbank, but the river pebbles do get a bit slippery in places. And I love the view of Victoria Bridge you get from down there.
Once at GZ the cache was an easy find. Not because I'm brilliant at locating cache hiding spots, but because it was lying on the ground! It wasn't open & the contents were dry & fine. I replaced it in what I thought looked like a reasonable place, and will send the cache owner a description of exactly where I put it in case I got it wrong.
I was pretty wet by the time I made it back to the car - jacket worked brilliantly, pity it didn't cover my legs as well . Thanks for another great cache and for providing me further evidence of my insanity.
Swapped geocoins.

Had us scratching our heads for a while, til we read the hint. TNLN. TFTC Bikerbuddy
Never walked this side of the river before, North of the Bridge anyway. Purple143 and I took the family up there this morning. Parked the car at the historical house, then made our way down the lower track. Reached GZ, and tried to do a thorough search, but no luck. Decided to try and translate the hint, Luckly we were on the ball. Once in our hand, could not believe we originally overlooked it.
Dropped off GeoCoin.
Picked up TB
On our way back, found another Black Snake, seen them everywhere this year.

Saved this one to do with the wife, Kate to show her the other side of the river, views of the river that we haven't seen before. Parking at the suggested spot started the lovely walk along the river to the weir. Short walk past to GZ. Wasn't sure of my translation but it proved to be good enough to find this cache. Cool little cache, haven't seen a container of this kind. Great hide bikerbuddy! well done! Took nothing, left toy. Look forward to attempt the other Nepean River caches!! TFTC
A very beautiful walk along the river to GZ. Quick find with the help of the clue.....remembered my Latin from school. All safe and sound at GZ A must do cache in the area SL TFTC Left TB. Fire fighter TB needs a rest before heading bush.
Found this with Geoson after two previous unsuccessful attempts. Unlike Trador, I didn't use the suggested parking spot and found myself on the wrong side of the river. Tonight, used better sense and found the wire mesh track (which by the way is for Sydney Water maintenance vehicles as we were nearly run over by their vehicle when we were returning to the car). Took a while to find the cache and I enjoyed the hide. Took the flashlight and left a USA Olympics and a Rememberance Day pins.
I found my self on a caching trip after my triathlon at the regatta centre. Being an opportunist, I thought I'd visit a lovely location on this rare day in Penrith. I have learnt to take the good advice of cache owners regarding access. So I park at the allocated coords and took a lovely stroll along a bush track. this was very pleasant and because it is undeveloped the muggle hordes from across the river do not venture here.
Soon I found a very enticing cache locale. My Latin is nil but Spanish stems from Latin and the words were similar enough that I got some meaning from them. Not exactly a direct translation but it gave me some ideas.
I must say the final few metres to GZ were the most fun of all and with delight I came across a well hidden cache. Nice container too. as I completed the caching business a group of youths wandered by but luckily I remained hidden from view. I took the earrings and left a keylight.
I totally enjoyed this cache, the location and the walk. Thanks for showing me a trail I would never have discovered.

After suffering with the flue last week & ended being a nasty 1 that was on my chest, I needed to go for a walk & bring it up. Well I sounded like a 3 pack a day smoker at times while doing this walk but it was worth it. A nice pleasant walk to GZ had, now for the fun of finding cache. I had done a similar cache up north at port Stevens so I went too far then looked back & yes it was there. The ricks that you take when the other half isn’t with you. Thanks for the hint, had me going for a long while on web using Google to translate it. Not easy, very old version of it.

What?, use the waypoints to get close the the starting area for a cache, not me!
So I ended up parking near the college (HS?) and bush/weed bashed past a bat colony to arrive at a spot I could have got to a lot easier.
I remember coming here with my parents in the 60s in the trusty EK, to collect 'lucky' stones for our garden.
The cache was soon in hand once I got to GZ. Will this cache survive a big flood?
Thanks bb, always nice to come to spots like this one.

Thought I'd see how this one was going. Everyone has been replacing the cache very nicely. Thankyou. Please make sure you clearly log your visit with your caching name. I don't want to be the bad cop deleting logs.
TFTC Took a while but the ferret wouldn't give up. Wouldn't have had a chance without the decrypt clue. Took pirate coin and left UK pound.
Came down here a few weeks ago as the sun was setting. Had no luck in the darkness, but coming back today found it after spotting a mildly suspicious object out of place...
