Hi skindo
This geocache was brought to my attention as being in need of an owner maintenance visit and after my previous reviewer note, there has been no owner response. The cache owner needs to check on this cache ASAP and either replace it or archive it, after picking up any geo-litter. See the [maintenance section of the Geocache Listing Requirements/Guidelines](http://www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines.aspx#listingmaintenance).
I've added this cache to my watchlist, and I will check back in four weeks to be sure that the maintenance has been done. In the meantime, I have temporarily disabled this listing. When the maintenance is completed, the owner can enable the listing by clicking on the link below the cache name to return it to active status.
Whatever your intentions, please **post a note** here on the cache page (not email) to let us know that you are still active and maintaining the cache. If a month passes without seeing a response, then I'll assume that this listing should be archived.
Please note, that if a cache is archived due to lack of owner maintenance, the cache is unable to be unarchived.

Alas a DNF for me too. I have since heard where it was, and we had checked there pretty thoroughly, but I have also heard that it was half buried, so it is worth a revisit for another look.
The time has finally come for our much talked about T2 adventure - a very worthy objective. The plan was in from Holdsworth and out at Waiohine with Totara Flats Hut and all the lovely caches inbetween. Day 2 today and feeling a bit rough from the leg jarring ups and downs from yesterday. Left Totara Flats with renewed energy and optimism for a river walk. For the first bit we got what we expected and had a very pleasant walk alongside the river caching and then the track upped the effort level. The swingbridge was a lovely sight to behold! and this cache was to be the last on the trip, unfortunately there was no joy despite quite a wide search by 5 of us on both sides.
T2 (GC137) is currently the second oldest extant cache in the North Island, and as such is on the list of 10 oldest NI caches required to be found in order to qualify for GC325CX Old School Challenge - North Island. This means that I've wanted to do a tramp to find T2 for yonks, and this weekend it finally happened.
A group of 5 of us set off early on Saturday, leaving one car at the end of Waiohine Gorge Campsite and then driving to Holdsworth Campsite in the other car, to make our way from there to Totara Flats Hut for 1 night and then back out via the Waiohine Gorge. Those 5 are LL113, Itchyfeet2020, Matagouri, TwigNZ and the Seagnoid, and so we have signed all logs as LIMiTS.
After the heavy going of yesterday, I must admit that I was expecting a far gentler descent back to the Waiohine Campsite carpark. Little did I know that it would still be a decent amount of effort required to do it, but at the end we would all feel that we richly deserved to eat dinner in a pub to celebrate our efforts.
Yay, we have almost made it back to the carpark. It certainly feels more like civilisation, but just a cache to find before we can complete our tramp. Unfortunately, in spite of a decent effort from the 5 of us, the prize remained elusive. There was a great tree bang on the published co-ords, but it didn't have any likely hiding places. There were other trees nearby that had better hides, but still no cache.
I think this one is gonnaburger (unless the co-ords are wildly out)
A group weekend in the eastern Tararuas, going from Holdsworth Lodge to the Waiohine campground via Gentle Annie Saddle and Totara Flats hut, with T-2 as our major target. The group includes LL113, Itchyfeet2020, myself, TwigNZ, and The Seagnoid, so we are signing logs as LIMiTS.
Yay! We made it to the end! The rain is just drifting in. We all down packs to hunt for this cache, but despite a good search around multiple hint objects, we can't find it. One spot is bang on GZ, and clearly a good hiding place, but no cache to be found. Called off after 15 min hunting, cos we all want off the track.

This was an incredibly busy location today, which made for an interesting drive in and out, meeting multiple cars in each direction. The sturdy swingbridge was probably one of the longest we have ever crossed. Despite searching multiple hint items, unfortunately we were unable to find the cache.
I found a log book at the information board at the parking lot and assumed that it belonged to this cache. But I couldn't find an empty box here either, which is why I took the logbook with me and placed it in another cache.
Great spot for a birthday visit - so nice and such a long time since I’ve been here with school camps
With (Mr) Davidson Clan and Gap (of Fap and Gap)… On a boy’s weekend roadtrip south. We’re relocating down the road today. So our base camp shifts to Carterton for the night…
It was an unexpected journey to road’s end, and the thought of crossing a swingbridge sounded exciting. We arrived and waited our turn to cross said bridge… Some walkers held us up as they inched their frightened puppy along… We struggled to lock in ground zone, but eventually dismissed most of the possibilities. Thanks Skindo and TFTC.

FapnGap and Squirel Nutcase and I have come away for the long weekend caching. Nice quick find here today cache is in good condition. Thanks for hiding the cache.
It is official, after years of thinking "one day"
Well today was that day, the weather is looking good, and we have started full of optimism, not sure how it will be, but suspect it is going to be a bit of a challenge.
This was the first find on our way to T-2 with gorby, happy to be earning the smiley

The time has come to start the big walk to Totara hut from the DOC carpark, me and rusty are pre4pared as we will ever be, have spent some time this morning getting our packs ready. We checked the weather, all good. Started our walk at 11:53am (at the hut at 6:43pm, 6hrs 50mins later), quite a bit later than I would have liked but it is what it is. The cache didn’t take long to find, rusty was onto it. We have decided to do some of the caches if time was constrained or if they were found quickly, we would get them all as we headed to the hut. We did get them all bar a multi and a trad. Now off to the walk.
Day trip to the river, absolutely fantastic place!
We had decided in the morning that we would get a few caches whilst out there. However we forgot to download any! Luckily we had remembered where this one was roughly. Found fairly quickly, great location!
Thanks!

"Mama always told me, start as you mean to go on". As we roll into a new year, what better way to start than a wee trek into the Tararua Ranges. Todays goal was all about the T2 cache, although I went a little further for another couple. The walk (in and out) was just over 25km and took me 8 hours and 16 minutes. 13 caches found, about half on the way in and the rest on the return, and now my legs don't work.
This one was my last find on the return trip, before I made my way back over the narrow bridge tot he car. Was searching in the wrong place at first, but then found the right spot. TFTC

Found on the return leg of our walk. The bridge is amazing, it's a long way down! Thanks for placing a cache here and also for the interesting information on the bridge.
Coords took us to the wrong side of the bridge but caching sense found it quickly based on the hint.
Didn't need to use any of our replacement logs as log was recently replaced by others

Out with a couple of families on a great walk, and this was an easy find after walking that bridge. I didn’t look down!
Thanks! The traverse across the swing bridge was fun thanks to wild wild winds!
NZ Bozzy and I have been on a geo caching tour of the North Island. We have achieved many goals including 60 TMGT caches and many spaces on our DT matrix and jasmar grid now filled. Walked and drove many miles
Thanks to all the CO's for placing and maintaining these caches.
Today we walked in the Tararuas for the T2 cache and picked up the well placed caches along the way.
Put in a dry log book

Well we found this cache at the end of our walk not the start.
When Kiscardi said did I want to go to the Auckland mega and collect all the TMGT cache in the north island, I said yes that would be good and started planning what to find.
Maybe I should find the 10 oldest cache in the north island of which one is T2. Not long ago I found the 10 oldest cache in the South Island so it was on my mind.
I have also planned to fill some missing months and the occasional missing D/T space.
I only found 7 of the 10 oldest cache in the north island on this trip so we will be back.

I was attending a 40th birthday celebration, which consisted of 3 days roaming the hills - which is just how my mate likes it!
Day 1. Tramping to Alpha Hut from Walls Whare (via Cone Hut)
Day 2. Alpha Hut to Tutuwai Hut (via Block XVI track.
Day 3. Tutuwai Hut to Walls Whare (via Mt Reeves).
We couldn't find this one in the dark on our way into the Tararuas, but had no trouble on our way out.
The cache was completely soaked and unable to be signed, so took a photo as evidence instead.
Thanks for the placement in such a beautiful location.

Found this with thebigflax on our last day of our epic mission. We had attempted 2 days before but it was dark and we were under the pump to get our epic mission underway so decided to hit it in the daylight on the way out. It was a very wet day when we found it and the logbook was a pulpy mess so have taken a photo.
Thanks for the cache

Waited for a pair of muggles to head back across the swingbridge before swooping in for the find. Logbook pulp - could do with a new one, so took a photo. Sorry I didn't have a replacement on me. TFTC.
I came up here for a bit of a reccy prior to one day starting a hike up the gorge from here. The road's a bit rough in places but not too bad in the summer with a normal car. The view from the bridge was pretty amazing. Luckily it was calm today since it wouldn't be too pleasant in the wind with such a long span.
Finding the cache was a quick affair over the other side but the log was not really signable so I attached a picture of the "ball" instead.

Spending the day exploring the Wairarapa with Kyb3r. We were headed to Carterton to get Mark something to eat when I spotted the sign for the gorge and as driver, decided to take a detour. TOTALLY WORTH IT! What a cool little place and what an amazing swingbridge, loved the little waterfall we spotted on the way back across. Looking forward to coming back and doing some proper walks in this region. Thanks!
I loved this spot. Thanks for bringing us here. It's Canterbury Anniversary weekend so JDScout and I organized cheap flights up to Wellington awhile back. The plan is to drive to Greytown on Friday and base ourselves there. Thanks Skindo for placing this geocache 7935 find for me.
Sadly there was no large event in New Zealand in 2019 but there are a few Mega events planned in Australia. New Zealand will have another large event in 2020 in Auckland.
======== NZ Mega 2020 ========
Planning for the NZ Mega 2020 event is well underway. It will be held in Auckland over Labour Weekend, 23 to 26 October 2020. Thanks for hiding this geocache.

We leave Castle point in the morning for Featherston. Objective of the day: Hiking in Waiohine valleya with the old geocache GC137 as the final.
What an adventure, what a weather and what a happiness!
And this is the last of the course.
Impressive this bridge!

After being led astray by the GPS & looking everywhere else for it, we found it in the most logical spot. TFTC
Great bridge and not so much wind today so nothing was scary. Off to Totara Flats Hut for the night. TFTC
Sveppi and I are on a mission to overnight at Totara Flats Hut (or camp if it gets too busy: we've got the tent!). First cache of the day very close to the carpark. We walk past the shelter, down the track, then I see the river and think to myself "wasn't there supposed to be a swing bridge? we should not be at river level..."
Well done you two numpties, call yourselves trampers and can't even find the correct track straight from the carpark!
After that was rectified, the GPS gave me a bit of trouble, pointing at the wrong hint object, but step widened the search area and found. Log is damp and crumbling, and although I was able to write it it, it won't last long... these containers in my experience are not very waterproof...

First camping trip to Waiohine Gorge. Fantastic spot- though I think we all got eaten alive by the river hahah!!
TFTC. Last cache of an epic (for me at least) weekend visiting Totara flats with PTS. Today's walk back from Sayer's Hut took us 4 hours, including the river crossing, and by this point, my legs are certainly feeling it! A very welcome 5397m added to the DGSc Distance challenge total.
As is typical, my phone battery finally gave out about 50m from the swing bridge, so I was reduced to searching by memory, and instinct. Was just about to give up when I spotted it, having exhausted almost all other possibilities!
Could the next visitor add a replacement log please, the paper on this one is starting to come apart, but the container itself is fine (I wasn't wearing my usual caching pack, so I didn't have my normal supplies with me, sorry).

On our way back from T-2 ... after 8 1/2 hours, here we are back at the swingbridge! Mr D pointed out the correct spot, and off across the bridge we went. A very nice suspension bridge it is too - well tensioned - hardly swings at all. So shouldn't we call it a non-swing-bridge?
Setting off to walk the track to Totara Flats and pick up GC137 T - 2 the 7th oldest active cache in New Zealand. Once across the bridge I looked in the wrong place and when I had spotted the hide I had to wait for people to cross the swingbridge. Once all it was signed returned as I was on my way. Thank you for the placement.
When Mrs Rattll asked if I wanted to do the walk to T2 cache I didn't know where she meant but once I investated it it was an area I had tramped before so I was keen to go as I wasn't caching back them so of course ya have to again with caches to get especially when a FTF could be up for grabbed further down the track. Mr Rattll drove us to the start. The weather was not looking good for us at the beginning of the week but as the week progressed it was improving, I rang Doc and he said to go for it its going to be fine weather for tramping the rivers are low so no worries about the slip you'll be able to walk the river. We headed off for the first cache at about 10am crossed our first swing bridge and got the first cache for the day, a quick easy find. signed the log and placed it back exactly where we found it. Now to head off to the next cache which was quite a walk away about 2.5 ks. Thank you for placing a cache here in this lovely environment.
After not finding this on the way to Totara Flats, the GPS pointed to a different location so another search was in order, this time it was successful. TFTC
Crossed the bridge and met jojo&dobby as they were waiting to cross back to the carpark, after a chat to jojo then atttempted to find the cache but no luck and then lots of muggles turned up. Will try again on the way out at the end of the trip.
7764. A quick and easy find on a very hot day. Crossed over and found it in seconds. Didn't use the GPS for any of the caches today - just instinct and experience. Glad Iris wasn't with me for this one, she would have been terrified!!! Thanks. Rodney.
#5313. Well today was the day to finally wrap up the North Island old school challenge by picking up T2, the last of the 10 oldest North Island caches. Getting there is the problem as it a long walk into Totara Flats. A plan was hatched recently for team of geocachers to come in and find the cache and put in a more secure holding box (ammo can). So the day started for me at 4.50am and a pick up at 5.30am at Ngaio train station. Huhugrub brought his car and picked up myself, barefootguru and then wb1116 in Upper Hutt and over to Carterton we went. We then picked up Gary (cartertonic) from his home and off to the Waiohine Gorge carpark. We hit the trail at 7.45am and what an epic day of walking it was. Returned to the carpark over 12 hours later after a full on walk up and beyond Totara Flats Hut, various swing bridges and one river crossing to a side cache and of course the big one, finding and signing T2. In all I found 13 caches today (several needed replacing) and the team placed 5 new caches on the walk. My fitbit recorded just over 50,000 steps (my biggest walking day in over 2 and half years) and other devices suggested it was 25 km of walking. Some stiff tired legs were recorded by day end. After dropping off cartertonic at home, the rest of us headed off for a meal in Carterton. Then back home over the hills to Wellington. Thanks Henry for driving us there and back. All up an excellent day with great scenery. Probably recommend it as an overnight trip rather than a day walk but it can be done.
I went for this cache at the end of the days walk. Everyone else had already found the cache so I was left to stumble around behind trees looking for it while others watched in amusement. Got there finally. Signed and replaced the cache as found. The logbook was a bit tatty. Thanks for the cache skindo. My head for heights is not great so that is a very high swingbridge. Don't look down!

NewSwedland, a new cacher, signed the log today as Swedie, not realizing this was a premium cache. He is learning about caching and had crossed the bridge when my muggle brother was heading into the hills, oops, I mean mountain ranges, for a few days. As always, TFTC. Skindo.
Recently, my boss suggested that I have a look at grabaseat sales, so I ended up with flights to wellington again! I decided to make a very focused approach to the two oldest caches in the North Island I have not found yet, Waiohine Gorge to get to T-2 on Saturday, and then Ruahine on Sunday. The Saturday ended up much more adventurous than expected!! Great fun along the track, TFTC!!
Out this weekend tramping in the Tararua Forest Park via the Waiohine Gorge and Mount Holdsworth. Took a while this one, great fun swingbridge on approach! TFTC!
Iconic location and a lovely spot for a cache. Quick find at the end of a Holdsworth --> Waiohine Gorge tramp.
Kumoi and I visit the Swingbridge AND the Cache.
Thanks For The Cache and many greetings from Germany.

Day two of a two-day caching trip in Wairarapa. Easy find after a good walk in as the road was close with a slip. Thanks for the cache.
11.15am. Great bridge. Good confidence builder for the little people with us. Found when looking at about the sixth forest warrior.

Fairly quick find, thanks. Enjoyed the walk along the swing bridge to get to it. A generous bounce, even though it was just B and me on it. After heavy rain overnight the river was in full torrent. Awesome to see!
Found on my early morning jog up the Waiohine. Crossing the swing bridge in the dark was quite eerie. It has been quite wet lately and the log is a bit damp, but not soaked.
Thank you

Found on our way out from an overnight tramp into Tutuwai hut. Eleven of us, from the Wednesday group of the Manawatu Tramping and Skiing Club. This is an amazing swingbridge, and deserves to have a cache. Had to search around a little bit, but it was in a logical place. Thanks skindo!
on our way out to Totara Flats Hutt for the night with Yeetrees and WB1116. The weather looks so good was hard to resist
48 people in a Hutt for 26 made it a cosy if an uncomfortable night for some people luckily we were first in so we had the pick of the beds before the multitudes arrived. But a fun night. Note there is no gas in the Hutt or firewood so if your coming in over winter I suggest you bring a small saw of some kind or you may be cold. Dobby was very unsure of the bridge but was going over like a bos by the time we came back.

I was here 38 years ago with the KoroKoro Scout troop. Thanks for bringing me back. TFTC.
I was back! Main target for today was T 2, the very old cache here. Because I had no camping gear with me, I had to finish it in one day. And after only 5:30 hours I was back. But really exhausted and so it was hard to searchfor the very last cache today. But I was Successful.
Thanks a lot for the cache.

Ninalila and I spent some time on the East Coast. During our trip we found a few boxes but it wasn't our main activity.
We discovered so many beautiful places during these days, sunny or rainy day

On the way from the East Coast to Wellington, fefe.adrien and I spent few days in the Waiohine Gorge in order to see the longest swing bridge of NZ and have a look on the beautiful river gorge. This place was quite lost, wild and without people.
Nice swing bridge ! It is high !

The new swingbridge has to be the most sturdy swingbridge that we've crossed anywhere in New Zealand. That could NOT be said for the bridge that we originally crossed the first time we came to Waiohine Gorge many years ago, which was strictly one person at a time and for which the term 'swing bridge' was very apt. I crossed that one and our young daughter crossed that one, but Mrs B only got as far as the edge of the trees at the start and had to turn back. Not so this time.
Cache was in the first place I thought to look, so I grabbed it and was leaning on the signpost signing the log when a party of tramper muggles appeared from the direction of Totara Flats. They milled around by the bridge for many minutes so I had a long wait inspecting the trees before I could replace the cache safely once the last one had started onto the bridge. Mrs B had crossed back before me, but guessed why I was such a long time coming.
Cache log is a bit damp and plastic bag torn, but easy enough to sign still. TNLN TFTC

#1606. Found on the return trip from a three day camping trip to Totara Flats with some youth from Scouts. Lovely walk in for a couple nights camping at the Flats. Also headed further upstream to check out the namesake hut - great hut that sleeps many.
While in area also checked out Sayer Hut - nice wee hut that had been recently used based on the smell of recent cooking.
Lots of swimming opportunities at the flats and several other parties went though this weekend.
One of the highlights of the trip was seeing Sayer Hut, another was finding T-2
All good at GZ.

DAY 17 -The day of hiking to T-2
My second day in NZ - started the tour from Auckland over the East Cape to the most southern point of the Northern Island.
NZ is very beautiful, I really enjoyed to be there.
Took the change to grab some challenges and other caches along the route!
TFTC and best regards from Germany

Set off from Wellington around 7 this morning and arrived at the carpark about 8.30am. Double checked the gear and off we set.
The plan was to head straight to T-2 via the Waiohine gorge and return the same way finding caches on the way home. CB wasn't up for the big walk today, so she took her time and enjoyed the forest while I went ahead. Finally back to civilisation, a small hunt before locating the cache. What a great place!!!

Great bridge! I've been on the sort of bridge that was here before - really exciting!
Here for a quick visit before leaving Skindoland for the other side of the kill. Vowed to come back and explore some more.

I forgot to log it. We found it in the way back from Tutuwai Hutt. This bridge was TERRIFYING. I have no idea how did I manage to cross it twice to the Hutt and back.tftc
Found this one on the way out from a 3 day tramp to Tutawai Hut. Fabulous bridge, and a great swimming hole underneath. Cache was lonely s0o we gave it some attentioan after 8 months. Log damp but otherwise in good order. tftc.
Queen's Birthday weekend and a start to winter caching, time spent in the Wairarapa. Now how could you beat that? Try finding some caches too!
The road in is a goner, but the bridge is still a swinging!
Took a bit of search and hunt before we came up with the goods; cache in order, log not signed (pen got inadvertently left on the other side of the gorge!), safely re-hidden, just as found.
So, photo of log and GPS included to verify find and attendance.
TFTC found with team cacher Sweet P too
The Turtle strikes again!

Cool bridge! The absailing guys were doing some maintenance but let us cross. After encountering a slip and having to negotiate that it seemed somebody was determined to make our caching day just the little bit harder. Took a few minutes searching to locate but not too difficult to find in the end. Now back across the bridge and slip to the car!

Wow - impressive bridge ! Headed over it in the early morning on our way up the valley. A quick cache find and sign before heading off on the track. TFTC !
Excellent bridge.
Not so sure about the 'quick' find described by Broadbridges.
My memory is of us wandering back and forwards all over the place, before StreetwalkerNZ put us out of our misery.

Good view from the middle...I would hate to be on here in very strong winds. Another great cache by skindo...thank you!
Found on the second attempt, after a disastrous trip a couple of years ago when I failed to find the cache, and lost my GPS. Great to finally knock it off. TFTC
Too hot to be in the garden, so what does one do? Go geocaching! And after finding the first three, I decided to visit the Waiohine Gorge was in order (after all I was close by) so off I went. Off course, you have to find the cache on the other side, so across the swing bridge I went. TFTC. A great bridge (am sure I used the previous one when I was younger, but the memory is fading!!).
Found on the way in to Cone Hut with chucky3 and pipistratus. That's quite the bridge! Thanks for the cache.
Found at the end of a tramp with Belmont Scouts from Kaitoke to Walls Whare.

Big big big bridge. Quick find while waiting for the Belmont scouts to arrive from their Tramp. TFTC
very cool bridge with lovely views. found in a group search with others waiting for scouts to turn up. TFTC
Quickly found at the completion of a tramp with Belmont Scouts from Kaitoke to Walls Whare. Feeling pretty knackered ... luckily i was pointed in the right direction by some of the pick-up crew who had found the cache before walking up the hill to meet us.

Fantastic bridge!
Found the cache without too much trouble before walking up the hill towards Cone Saddle.
A good day out.

What an awesome swingbridge. Most swingbridges I like to hang onto the sides as I cross (sometimes quite tightly), but this one was reasonably 'sway" free, & you could walk across it without using your hands. Loved it!
First one on my walk in the gorge today. Really impressive swingbridge, TFTC. Sherlock Hood.
