Today we had our second day in Karamea and again made a trip in and around the city, with special emphasis on the Oparara basin. On this trip we searched, found and logged many caches, too. The weather was good, sunny, very warm, only a bit cloudy, and only sometimes there was some wind.
Almost no muggels observed us as they had better things to do than observing two geocachers.

Thanks to weenz for showing us this location and for the fun we had at Swing Bridge (Kohaihai, West Coast). The search we had here today didn't take too much time.

Greetings from Germany and hope to see you soon in the forest.

Our last day on the Heaphy trail and we were on a mission to be out by the road for our shuttle collection after lunch. Replaced this cache with permission from the CO.

Ended up hiding under the bridge and walkway when we heard muggles approaching - very funny as I suspect our clothing was too bright to be camouflaged. Didn't find the cache - and on getting home and going to log discovered that it was archived on the day we were there! Still a great spot & a lovely walk along to Scott's Beach.

Found a wee nook with a covering stone, but no sign of the cache. Worth an owner check please.
What a fabulous spot, glad we visited.

25-Dec-17
ReCached and I had nearly finished our today's hike... close to 27 km! We inspected the area carefully after reading the hint and we even found a great spot where it might have been, but unfortunately we didn't find it.

T-Tech and I are travelling around South Island for 6 weeks Big Grin

We free camped at Kawatiri Beach Reserve last night and this morning took the drive up the coast as far north as we could get Wink Then we wanted to get this cache sorted to mark the spot, so to speak, and had an enjoyable wander along the track, and admired the swing bridge. We got into the search, and the hint took us to a very appropriate spot, but there was no cache to be seen anywhere Sad

10-Nov-17
Over from Brisbane for a number of weeks "motorhoming" around the South Island with IolantheK [^]
Now on our way from Haast to North for a bit sticking to the coast, grabbing caches between views [^]

This is it as far North as we are going. Even though there wasn't a cache at the proscribed location Twisted

Despite the sandflies and the rain we enjoyed this beautiful place and walked a little part of the Heaphy Track. The nature in all the different green hues is amazing!

The paper log is damp and shredded. It needs replacing.

13-Mar-17
Another quick with a newbie. Not able to sign the log as it is saturated and disintegrating! It would help considerably if the container was placed upright by each finder. TFTC at the end of the 4-day Heaphy trip.

12-Mar-17
We found this cache quite easily, following the directions of the owner. We had to be really careful, as there were quite a few muggles passing by as we were coming by the Cache and finding it! As we had no writing stick with us (having lost it somewhere in the Heaphy hut), we took several pictures of the Cache, of the spot where the Cache was found and me holding the cache! But, even if we had had a writing stick, the log is damp and almost shredded to nothing, so we couldn't have signed. TFTC

Arrived late in the day so after cooking dinner I decided a walk in the dark would be nice. I'm working on a challenge that requires a large number of night caches. I've walked as far as the swing bridge before so knew the track was ok. Nice easy find, could hear something rustling in the bushes nearby. TFTC

Just about finished the Heaphy Track! Can almost smell the beer! But first a quick stop here to find another cache, which had me hunting for a bit - it can't be that hard to find!, And no, it wasn't just a bit further along than I thought it would be.
An awesome cycle trip. Highly recommended.

I was fortunate enough to be able to squeeze an 11 day holiday out of two leave days!! I headed out west to find some caches, see some sights, and relax before the madness of the semester hits. The weather was unbelievably good, only a bit of a storm over Arthur's Pass on the first day, otherwise hot and sunny. I found a great variety of caches, drive by's, walks, hikes, even a power trail. Thank you to all the CO's for their great hides!!!
I have parked up to catch the bus to the other side of the Heaphy, but having plenty of time, I decided to have a taster and walk to the first cache on the track and find it now rather than on the way back. Good decision as half of NZ decided to explore the area as I was walking out, and being a bit on the tired side, I would not have been keen to hang around until they move on... TFTC!!

Some month ago four people decided after some wine/beer at a pub quiz to tramp the Heaphy Track during the Christmas break. Plans were made and on the 24th was the day to start. We flew out from Karamea via airplane and were guided by our pilot Mit who explained us the whole trail from the air. Oh wow we need to walk all that!!! Lucky us we had blue clear sky and sun all the way and an awesome time Smile.
Yeah we did the Heaphy!!! In total with all the geocaching side trips I walked 97km Smile. TFTC

Cache # 16, and the last cache of our Heaphy Track trip. This was an easy find thanks to a good hint. We replaced the tatty log with a new logbook that should see this cache out for quite some time. A great way to end the walk. Stunning views along the coast, great weather. Our lunch and transport awaits.

And finally the much talked about trip for the Heaphy Track is underway. A few months ago the work sports committee decided this years adventure training trip would be New Zealand's longest of the Great walks; 78 kms from Collingwood end, emerging at Karamea somewhat older, more tired and wiser? We'll see.
Day 4 dawns nice and early as the trampers, snorers and farters awaken. Kind of forgot how pleasant it can be in communal huts. With a hearty breakfast of two muesli/fruit bars and a small tin of cheese (yes, really, ration pack cheese is yummy), and yes I did have the same breakfast for all 3 mornings in the huts!
A new group again for walking and this time it's aGeocaching group with raisinpig, G H 6 7 1 0 and kiwimykl along with Kelly the muggle.
Last find of the day, and the trip, and a nice one after that great walk across the swing bridge. G H 6 7 1 0 had it in hand by the time we arrived and replaced as found

[Red] 17 Mar 15. After weeks of training our preparation is about to pay dividends and the company I work for is sending 19 of us to spend four days and three nights on the Heaphy Track as part of a Team Building/Leadership/Get to know each other exercise. We start the track on the 18th of March, but as four of us are Geocachers it would be a shame not to make the most of this opportunity to indulge in our obsession. Over today and the next four days Capperz, GH6710, Kiwimykl and Raisinpig will jointly, individually or any other combination search for and log caches during our travels. In most cases the actual logs will be signed by one of us with our individual GC names, but we may just use our initials being C, G, K and R.

[Blue] Although we had one more cache planned for the Heaphy Track (Zig Zag), we didn't find it, so this was to be the last cache on our Heaphy adventure.

So here we are, almost at the end of what started out four days ago and I've had a great time, seen some fantastic sights and met like-minded people from different cultures enjoying the best that NZ has to offer. Would I do it again... in a heartbeat, and if Mrs Kiwimykl (aka NZDi) has her way, it won't be to far away. I just need to do a side trip to Nepal to hire a couple of Sherpas.

To all the cachers who have placed the caches on the track... thank you. To my fellow cachers capperz, GH6710 and Raisinpig... thank you also.

Log falling to pieces.

Found using the hint. Lovely day to be up here. The log book is a mess. It was also damp and falling to bits. Tried to hold it together with one of our stickers as was not able to write on the log. Needs a new log book. We feel a cache in a remote area such as this deserves a decent cache container and a notebook type log book not a scrap of paper.
