In the heart of South Australia, near the sleepy town of Mundoora, lies an old railway line that has long been out of service. The abandoned tracks and overgrown vegetation hint at the bustling past, but now, theyre a hidden treasure for geocachers. One crisp autumn morning, Emma, an avid geocacher, decided to explore this forgotten stretch of railway. Armed with a GPS and a sense of adventure, she set out to find a cache rumored to be hidden somewhere along the old Mundoora railway line. The cache, cleverly named Mundoora's Hidden Treasure, was said to be tucked away where the tracks once met a small wooden bridge. As Emma walked along the path, she could almost hear the distant echoes of the trains that once roared by. The landscape was serene, with the only sounds being the crunch of leaves underfoot and the occasional chirp of birds. When Emma reached the bridge, she carefully examined the area. The cache was rumored to be hidden in a small, magnetic container, making it a bit of a challenge to find. After a few moments of searching, her eyes caught sight of a tiny glint of metal camouflaged against the bridges rusty supports. With a sense of triumph, Emma retrieved the cache and signed the logbook, adding her own note about the fantastic adventure. She replaced the cache and tucked it back into its hiding spot, ensuring it was as well-hidden as before. As she walked back, Emma felt a deep sense of satisfaction. The Mundoora railway line, though silent now, had once again played a role in an exciting geocaching adventure, connecting the past with the present in a delightful way.Come visit SA's longest running annual event -keep the Long weekend free- June 2025 Can't wait!!2573
Found it! After lunch in Port Broughton I set off towards Clements Gap and Snowtown collecting caches along the way. Once I finally worked out how to get to the right road (Google Maps is not your friend here), I spent a little while searching before spotting it just sitting there in front of me. TFTC!
Navigating through the scrub was slightly challenging but a quick find nonetheless. Tftc.
Spent over 20 minutes going round in ever increasing circles from our two GPSR's, up the embankment down the other side along the top but all we found was what we took as a few items of swap.
TFTC. Day 8 of honeymoon caching trip. Headed in a northerly direction from our base of Wallaroo.
Happy caching and safe travels!
Once GPS settled was spotted. Container doesn’t match last photo posted of container. It’s brown with a green lid.

Out with iluvtrekking heading to Port Broughton and surrounds, picking up caches along the route. Another container we were able to replace thanks to gift from TheKellyGang. Log book was ok but container disintegrated. Thanks for the hide.
Another cache found with richlink on our 2022 South Australian Adventure.
An interest slice of history. We are enjoying our time travelling in the YP. Fantastic towns, ruins, beaches and cliffs. Thanks to all the COs for taking us on a geo-guided tour.

Cache is very brittle and broken. Wet will get in.

Found on our way home from a trip to Crystal Brook and Port Pirie with Team Waldron for a long weekend. Unlike the previous two days of low cloud and rain, the day opened up with clear blue skies, temperature in the low 20's, and light winds. Perfect for caching on our travels back to Adelaide via Port Broughton, Tickera, Wallaroo, Moonta, Kadina, Balaklava and Mallala. Thanks for the cache sunphyl!
Today we cached between the Barunga Range and Port Broughton - now heading west from Mundoora .
TNLNSL.
Was there a railway siding here, or is this where the horses were taken off [?].
Thanks again Sunphyl.

So we were all set to fly to Dayboro for the Queensland Mega this weekend. There hadn't been a case in Qld for a quite a few weeks before we decided to book in early Feb. What are the chances of a case causing a lockdown and closing the border we thought..So when it all did happen just 4 days before we where due to leave, we were royally peed off. So we had to cancel and find somewhere else to spend Easter. Pt Broughton was a last minute choice so here we are at the Broughton Bay RV park. After having brekkie in the Cafe and looking around the markets we headed out to do a few around the district. A quick find at GZ today. TFTC
Spending a bit of time around the Mundoora area for some caching. Discovering tracks I have not driven before. Bit of a search for this one, as not in the obvious place. In good condition. Tftc
Day 445 ( Monday 16th) of our trip. Caching along the way, in Bute today. Out this afternoon to get a few around the area. TFTC
Moved the caravan to Port Broughton, then we heded out in the GeoCruiser to tackle a few caches in the surrounding area.

On the way to Millicent Mega and detour and signed the log as EV and thanks for the cache and hide
A day off from work had me off to the north west with Purrfect Di and Jack...
A few random caches to be found along the way - this was one of the lucky ones
Realistically it was a stinking hot day, with hoards of icky flies, harsh winds, and smoke filled skies from the KI bushfires
But we still had a good time hopping in and out of our air conditioned geo mobile!
This was an interesting spot. Not much sign of the line now, but a cache was found nearby.

TFTC a relatively quick find on our way to Pt. Broughton. Lots of earth works has destroyed some of the surroundings
Nomads travelling in their caravan around Australia. We have been on the road since July 2011 and discovered caching in August 2013. We travel with a bunch of travel bugs belonging to our sons and grand children. Where ever possible, we will maintain your cache as we travel.
This morning, the back farm roads from Port Broughton are the target. Everything is looking so green at the moment. Mostly Wheat, and some canola flowering in the distance.
Interesting story about the train, now we know why it was called the gravity train.
Found by Mr D, eventually. Thanks sunphyl

Another Wednesday wandering for three animals. The goal today was to get to Pt Broughton finding a few caches along the way.
There's a lot of interesting stories out there and this is another one of them.
Thanks for the cache sunphyl.

Once more a menagerie of animals from the Puzzled Puzzlers set out on our weekly Wednesday Wanderings. Unfortunately the Starfish was not well so he was with us in thoughts and not in person. The KORF as the chauffeur for the day the plan was to pick up a few DNF's and numerous others that still required smiling faces on the map. A couple of DNF's turned to smileys and a few more DNF's added to the list.
Found by the Rat after a short search. TFTC

Spotted the dilapidated cache easily from the top of the mound, right where co-ords said it would be!
Replaced cache container with another fruit one, painted black, and transferred contents with a new baggie too.

Thanks

The cache has a needs maintenance on it, plus all the earthworks surrounding gz so we weren’t holding our breath trying to find this one.
When we pulled up we weren’t too hopeful of funding this one due to all the earthworks. Thanks anyway
lovely day for caching whilst on holiday at Port Broughton. TFTC
Container needs replacing as is perishing due to the elements.

Staying in Port Broughton and decided to go for a drive to Mundoora and grab a few caches along the way. Had a nice little walk in to this one saw where the railway line used to be. [^]
Thanks for the cache sunphyl.

An unusual railway line
And certainly efficient [^]
Many of the 'iron ore' railways in the Pilbara still use the same methods.
The engines at the front of the train on the run from the mines to the coast are only there to provide braking power !!
Some of the longest trains in the world too !! [:o]
Meanwhile, my cache search was a relaxed affair and the cache was soon found.
Having read the previous finder's notes, I came prepared with a new 'fruit box' to replace the olde, holy 'fruit box'
Good to go again for a couple of years at least

Geocaching expedition with fellow Kadinian Karpy Karpyson on a sparkling spring day, covering Port Broughton through to Snowtown. 16th cache of the day. We didn't see remnants of the railway line, as expected, and had some fun on the incline. TFTC
Bit late logging this one but found it while I was on holidays at port Broughton in January
Headed over to the Yorke for a 2 days of caching with both Mr and Mrs Honeysucker, Locus Cache and Geodog Max. Had a ball - lots of laughs and stirring each other up.
Cheers and thanks for the cache

Found these on a Easter run with locus and Mrs Burtons what a great deal of fun we had
Headed out for a couple of days on Yorke Peninsula with Honeysuckers and Mrs Burton.
Did the locus cache on a few caches, had lots of laughs and had gorgeous weather just to cap off a great couple of days
A nice little out of the way spot that in its hey day would have been very busy.

They must have really liked building railways back then...

I went up and over the embankment before I realised it was the old train line, the cache was easy enough to find. TFTC
I thought this one was gonna take forever to find. The batteries died in the GPSr and I had to sit in the car charge them off the battery for 10 minutes to get about 40 seconds of life. Just enough to get to GZ Got it in the end

Goedad quick find for this one, this cache had a visitor "Alytus Lithuania" The TB decided to leave as did not like the snake we left and could see no point in waiting for the train to arrive. TFTC
Round and round in circles, maybe 2 sets of eyes may have done better. Will try another day!

First find of the day and alerted some of the locals who stopped to ask why we were out at this knack of the woods. We headed off thinking we could cache all the way to Pirie, but got very lost and spent the next hour or so driving on dirt roads pleading to find the highway, but alas we finally did PHEW! TFTC TNLN
Found as part of a two day Northern areas run with Team Waldron.

Monty from Mundoora was on the radio quiz as I pulled up. Failed on the first question, which was the mystery voice. Found a neat cache at GZ.
An easy find. Amazing to think of that railway line working all those years ago. Thanks for telling us about it sunphyl. TFTC
There were man sized mozzies here. As I was the only large thing with blood, and it was dinner time (just after sunset), they decided I was the only thing on the menu. Yummmmmm. I fended off the diners as best I could. I could not find the thing.
Look Look Look swat, wave, walk fast to generate breeze. Those mozzies could fly faster than I could walk.
In desperation I rang the Tk2 help line. As I though, on the ground under a bush. Brilliant!! As I put the phone in my pocket, I looked down and was nearly standing on the cache. Love that!
I scribbled something in the book and tried not to leave blood.
No wonder they closed this line!
Clear skies

This took us an embarrassingly long time to find, especially as it is so easy to spot when up close. We managed to circle just about every bit of bush around the container numerous times, every spot except that one little bit that we kept missing.

Not much chance of a train along here anytime soon . At 1330, this had to be our last cache of the day, as we had to rush off and get showered and changed for a 1500 wedding at Bute
A rail line I did not know existed, a short walk and hunt avoiding a few rabbit holes TNLN TFTC
Good cache, thanks, congrats to Podsters on you 1st find
