Dry now but that could change. I see log book swapped out Feb this year so well maintained. Thank you very much for placing and maintaining the cache.baz_byass
Another great old historical site along this stretch of road. I was surprised at how little water was in the creek given the recent rains, but still some about. Almost out o light, was torches on. We looked in a tree first, seemed okay but no cache. Was starting to think perhaps time had displaced it but a closer look towards the bridge had it spotted. Quite happy about that.
A caching trip from Canberra, ACT to Cape York, Qld and then around the gulf to East Arnhem Land, NT then over the top of WA and down to Perth.Interesting detours to Thursday Island, Mabuiag Island, Mornington Island, Doomadgee, Hells Gate, Nhulunbuy, Wadeye, Litchfield National Park, Wyndham, the Gibb River Road, Monkey Mia, Meekatharra, Wiluna, Laverton & Warburton.TFTC. Another great historic place to visit. I don't think the road is open after all the rain as there aren't tracks around. Nice quiet spot to campCache was 12m from GZ in a nice placement. Much better than the bushes we were scrounging in.
We are on a Bucket List Trek, from Busselton, in the South West corner of Australia, up to Cape York, Australia's most Northern land point, and return.
We are travelling through several iconic tracks, through the Gawler Ranges, the Oodnadatta Track, the Birdsville Track, the Bloomfield Track and the PDR Track to Cape York. Now returning home via Nhulunbuy, Wadeye, down through the middle to Uluru and across the Great Central Road back to WA, a little detour out here before arriving home.
As we meander across this awesome country, we stopped here to enjoy the scenery, check out the history and wonder what life was like here all those years ago.
Thanks to the CO's for adding to our journey as we headed to Cape York and back.

Found during three weeks away with e.gregory1 on a trip along WA's Great Central Road and a caching circuit of the WA Goldfields. We travelled North on the Stuart Highway and out to Kings Canyon to Uluru and Kata Tjuta. From there we headed in a south-westerly direction along the Great Central Road with a number of detours along the way, including Surveyor Generals Corner and Empress Spring. Then it was down to Laverton and Leonora before turning South to Menzies and Kalgoorlie. A few days were spent on a circuit back up to Lake Carey and around to Queen Victoria Spring before returning to Kalgoorlie, then out to Coolgardie, Kambalda and Norseman, and heading for home along the Eyre Highway. The WA Goldfields is a fascinating region of incredible scenery and history that we experienced over a number of days while touring the area. Cache maintenance undertaken as per e.gregory1's log. Thanks for the cache DevilDog3!
Found on another enjoyable trip with FeatherWaite over 3-weeks through South Australia, Northern Territory and Western Australia. This time the plan was to head up to Kings Canyon, across to the WA border via Uluru and Kata-Tjuta, then down the Great Central Road, with a few side-trips along the way before eventually getting to the Goldfields and then home via Queen Victoria Springs and the Eyre Highway.
We had some mixed weather to start, with a few overnight showers initially, but mostly warm and sunny days. The nights were often cold though!
The cache was found partly encased in dried mud. Some water had got inside and the logbook was quite wet. We cleaned it all up and left a new logbook.
Thanks DevilDog3 for the cache.

We camped overnight on the southeast corner of Lake Carey and worked the backroads to Leo to a hard earned Devonshire tea at Hoover House.
Lots of frogs and a few mozzies.
DevilDog3, I found DD3 – 24 Old Railway Bridges today. Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache.

Superb example of days gone by, it would be fabulous to see a train out here again TFTC
Thank you for the location. Always good to be able to take on of the back road and explore
Day 56 of our tour of the South West, Wheat Belt and Goldfields, and we find ourselves in Leonora. Today we are travelling the old Leonora Laverton road stopping at points of interest and geocaches along our route. We love the history, thanks, DD3.
The last cache for today and we were astounded to find a travel bug languishing in this quiet little place. Grabbed it to move on to a more populated route. We originally pulled over at the official site before reading the description properly, heading a bit further down the road, and making a quick find.
Todays job was cancelled so I had plenty of time to detour along some slightly less travelled roads on the way home. Another little gem along this road. It was a great day for sight seeing, lovely weather and no bugs. I love that about this time of year. TFTC
We are taking the old road to Laverton mainly to pick up these caches. This wasn't too hard to locate and after taking a few photos of the old bridge we were on our way again.
Left a TB here
This was find number 2 for the day.

No chance of muggles seeing me here but the flies sure came around to see what I was doing. TFTC
We made a quick find here along with about a million flies.

#502 find for us. Found after a short search. Cache in good condition. We’re enjoying our exploration of this alternative route between Laverton and Menzies. TNLNSL. TFTC!
Had a trip out to The historic ghost town of Gwalia planned for some time now and with the wife keen to check out some of the ghost towns and various ruins throughout the goldfields it was sure to be a great trip.
We travelled to Kalgoorlie and then upto Gwalia where we stayed at Hoover House, which is the old mine managers house for the sons of gwalia mine and offered great views of the pit.
We took a day trip out to Laverton and Leinster with a small detour to grab a few caches along the great central road. After our detours from Leonora we dropped back into Kal and down to Esperance for the last night of our trip.
A great trip away and thanks for all the caches along the journey. Thank you to the COs for their caches.

On my way home after doing a couple of remote caches I stopped to grab this cache. Lucky it was a quick find as it’s now pouring with rain. TFTC DevilDog3
Expected to see wooden trestles.
Cache is in good nick. Like new, someone must have replaced. Left some swaps. TFTC.

Day seven of our 'wheatbelt loop' looking for wildflowers and picking up caches along the way.
Staying in Leonora two nights so decided to head out Laverton way taking the old highway to grab some DD3 caches. This container had well and truly seen better days - we replaced container and log book as well - now 200 ml Sistema. Thanks DD3

This container is damaged, the lid is broken. It really needs replacing! Cheers
This trip through the Goldfields has been a while in the planning and the main mission was to collect caches in at least another 8 Local Government Areas to qualify for a challenge cache recently set up by megawatt60! I didn’t really have a plan on where I would be sleeping and was happy to throw the swag down once the daylight became in short supply. From Kalgoorlie I headed north as far as Leinster with a few deviations along the way. I then headed west through Mt Magnet and then meandered my way back towards Perth. I had GC and GCA caches lined up and tried to grab as many as I could while passing by. Cheers to all the CO’s for the hides and hopefully I can head back one day soon to clean up the caches I wasn’t able to find on this trip. TFTC
G’day there DevilDog3, I was in this area today and found your cache DD3 – 24 Old Railway Bridges GC2F6QA. I added my name to the log book at 2:54 pm on 3 April 2018. A huge thanks to you for placing this cache here for us (and others) to find!
This brings our total find count to 9428

Found sitting in a tree out in the open with a damaged container. We replaced the container with a brand new one so all is good again . Ground zero is in a low part that is close to water so have placed approx 5 meters south on high ground as there is more rain forecast. TFTH SL cheers
Wow so this cache was majorly smashed up and degraded! Sitting in a tree high up from the water. Boyfromthebush and I decided to do the right thing and replace the crumbling systema container with one of our own and placed it back approx 5m up from where we thought GZ would be. Will message CO with exact description. Didn't want to let this cache get archived because of remoteness! TFTH SL TCLC
Grabbed during a storm and made a quick exit towards Leonora while the going was good. Cache container badly degraded and no longer weatherproof. TFTC
Nice little afternoon drive brought us to this spot. Easy find and a beautiful little place
Nearly drove straight past coming from Leonora cause no sign to show railway bridge. Container falling apart & pen broken & didn't write ,so I replaced pen. TFTC
4844 Found by baby&Mrs gopher at 1235. the old bridge is just a sample now of it's former self. with the rock flooring water was still in the holes. Cattle have been using the water hole in the last little while. Not many birds at this hour. made the find SL Tnx devilDog3
Found at 10:09 AM GAFF5 in the company of Ian&Sue - Team Pathfinder..
There was a lot of water around the remnants of the bridge, however we still managed to get to GZ the longest possible way from the road [B)] Got to GZ and the cache was quickly located and then a relatively simple walk back to the cars.
Thanks DevilDog3.

After spending the night at Malcolm Dam we set off to Laverton via the tourist route. We stopped the caravans near GZ and negotiated the boggy area around what was left of the creek which still had some water present. The grasses around the edge obviously enjoying a chance to grow while the water was still available. Interesting to see that the old sleepers have survived for so long.
Thanks Devil Dogs 3

After picking up the Hawksnest cache, I decided to take the old road back to Leonora.
As it turns out, it seems no cachers take this road as I managed to grab a couple of unloved caches on the way back.
This was the second one and the cache is in good condition and how it was left 18 months ago.
A good diversion coming back this way.

Nice and green area when we arrived, like an oasis in the desert. But not for long . When we left the car there were a ZILLION flies around us. Must have rained here recently as everything was wet and soggy but we made it up to the cache. TFTC DevilDog3.
This rail line was some great history to it and is great drive.
Old bridges are fantastic.

Unfortunately this was our last one of this Trail. All locations were worth a stop so thanks for bringing them to our attention. We would have driven the sealed road otherwise. TFTC.
Great day of catcheing, see this hide has not been found for a while and is now buried by the tree
Can't believe how much you have put into this DevilDog3
without your imput ...we would miss half of this ....Thanks

Beautiful architecture and workmanship. They certainly had pride in the work they did. Quite a few bridges along that line - just a shame it is not still running - imagine how many less trucks would be on the road
Lots and lots of finches around the waterhole. It was lovely to just sit and chill for a while

Got this one on the drive back from Laverton, amazing amount of history in this area. TFTC
Tough find! Thick terrain, itchy bushes and snake holes! Took skeleton left Thomas train. TFTC!
It was amazing the speed that these lines went through especially when you look at how much fill had to be used to keep the line level, not to mention the bridges that had to be built a fine example of which isn't far from gz. The cache took a little while to find as the winds here must have been quite fierce since the last find as it was almost totally buried in it's hide. We did a bit of excavation and moved things around so hopefully this won't happen again.
Thanks DevilDog3 for the cache and for the history

Yep the engineering was great.
We were fascinated with the excellent wooden culverts slowly going but still intact after all this time.
Thanks - this is a great road to travel.
