Holy StarWars

A fabulous cache - so well described.

19-Feb-24
Cool find. Tftc. Log was hard to get out. Didn't have any tweezers. Rolled it around a stick to hopefully make it easier for the next person. Big branch fell off a tree somewhere close by, was very loud as I sat there signing log in the dark.

A scramble down the bank here, had a good look around. No idea where we were meant to be looking. Hint didn't help. Walked away empty handed.

Fun cache!

I was staying very near by so I finally grabbed this cache. In the past I have never been able to get a park close enough and then it went missing for a while. Thanks for replacing it. This is a very cool themed cache and away from prying eyes. Definitely earns the terrain rating. TFTC

25-Aug-23
That was pretty awesome!! Enjoyed the walk, hope to see more

22-Apr-23
Awesome find with my boys. Thanks.

Didn't notice the disabled last cache, another time then. Was interested to see the nearby school desk and chair with the CO's details on, I'd assumed it was a political post when passing by in the car earlier. Spotted the nearby old dock too before heading down to indicated GZ. Soon had the cache in hand and used the force to get the log out and signed, well, just enough 'force'. Replaced as found and headed back to my cart in a galaxy far, far away. Well, 600 metres or so!

Today was a trip out to the Quarry Gardens for another enjoyable walk around admiring the plantings. We then headed to the town basin for lunch before heading off on our separate ways before catching up later in Mangatapere for dinner.

A long weekend in Northland and a nice catch up with our son and his family. We had 4 days and 3 nights staying at Ngunguru in the works bach and although caching wasn't high on the list we still had a couple of trips out and found a few, thanks to all COs. It's been a couple of months since we last saw little Hayes, our 16tth grandchild, so was good to see how much he'd grown.

Cool star wars find with newbies Awesome Adventurers! TFTC

17-Mar-22
Yes a bit of scramble into litter land, down past the concrete slab seemed to be the best option. May the force be with you.

18-Feb-22
Great cache. Lots of fun opening it
Fav point.

18-Feb-22
After a scramble down the bank we initially overshot this but realised our mistake. Very cool and it took a few minutes to figure out how to open it to get the log. FP given

Quick park and grab and scramble down the hill. What an awesome cache. TFGC

Need to fix and replace

29-Nov-20
Was drawn here by the number of FPs. Have to admit it took me WAY longer to open than it should have. Given number of FPs I was looking for something tricky and was adamant it must have a function it didn’t...doh. Anyway, once I got over that, and enlisted assistance from nearby debris to help my vertical challenge, I soon had paper in hand to sign and was scrambling back up the hill to the car. TFTC <3

28-Sep-20
Nice easy find due to a good description. TFTC

19-Apr-20
Logging old find

21-Jan-20
Nice container. TFTC.

02-Jan-20
I should have changed into my hiking boots to get traction on the way down to GZ. Parting whit this container must have been a big sacrifice. TFTC.

01-Jan-20
Up in Whangrei for a couple days. Lucky to find a tent site on New Years Day. Needed a find for the souvenir today.. Have to remember to put the right year when signing. Lol. Unusual cache. Good find. Tftc

17-Nov-19
Great hide! Bit of logging going on round here so a potential muggle risk. Otherwise, TFTC! Got some pics too

26-Aug-19

06-Jul-19
Contiued to walk along the road until we reached the area for GZ. Searched in different levels ans soon had the CIH.

15-Jun-19
Thanks Riser5 and MiniMaxy for the cache. It’s #1061 for us. We found your cache on 15 June 2019. Nice hide in a very clever container. Also a great place to wait while a passing shower, passed!!

24-May-19
In Whangarei for the night to deliver some training tomorrow before heading home (Wellington) after that. Popped out after dinner to pay my respects to the local caching community by finding a cache or two whilst in town.
Second cache for the night, just up from the hotel. Dropped down the steps downstream from the cache location and made my way under torch light along the path beside the river. Stopped at one likely looking spot but the GPS said just a wee bit further and I couldn't see any post being part of the tree. A few meters on, found GZ and soon had the cache in hand. Log signed, cache reassembled and returned as found.
Many thanks for the cache. Thats it for tonight, back to the hotel to prepare for tomorrow.

10-May-19
After heading to Whangarei to get our windscreen fixed we had a nice lunch in town before heading to this Cache to make a quick find while over this way. Parking the van on the sode of the road futher down I made my way along the gras area on the side of the road until I saw a nice set of stairs leading towards tge river. Seeing a few big trees down that way I decided to follow the stairs down and headed the way the GPS pointed me once at the bottom of the stairs. I followed a little path until the GPS brought me within 10m of GZ and started looking around finding the correct tree and soon had the Cache in hand. Nice thoughtful hide. A bit of glass around so be careful. Heading back to the road I saw some nice flowers blooming. TFTC

09-Apr-19
A great, fun cache - but not somewhere I'd want to lose my footing! But worth making the effort, definitely. TFTC

08-Apr-19
This wasn’t far far away and it was a joy to do it. May the forth be with you thanks for the novel cache gets a fave TFTC

07-Apr-19
Every time we visit whangarei we drive past this but parking is usually an issue. Today there was plenty down the road a bit. We found a funny little pathway and steps down and made our way along plenty if options but cache was quite obvious. Thanks for the placement rise and minimaxy

07-Apr-19
Now thats a novel use for one of those lol nice placement ...thanks Riser 5 well done

02-Apr-19
An easy enough find once I had managed to get to the tree. Signed the log at 1110Hr on 02 April 2019. The log within was soggy, so I put in a dry piece of paper.

Very well done cache, favorite from me! Doing a walk about today, visiting from Oregon USA where it is a cold ,& snowy winter. Grateful to be here where it is summer in this beautiful country. Tftc

The case was a nice easy fine but a bit different to usual tftc

07-Oct-18
We thought a quick evening cache hunt to see if we could find a couple of high favourite caches for this month's challenge was a great way to finish a fine Spring weekend.

This was the second one we decided to search for and it was quickly found by Liz in it's tree hide. It looks like there has been an effort made to clean up the weeds and rubbish in the area, possibly by the local Council contractors. TFTC.

16-Aug-18
TFTC... Love the cache container! Unfortunately I had left my spare logs at the car much further down the road. Log was damp but still able to sign.

This area could do with some CITO for sure. Next time I'm bringing a bag to tidy up the area!

First find for the day as I wait for nephew's fun run later this morning.

Tree was obvious as approaching GZ which was very accurate with my readings

Thanks Nick for the placement. Always know I'm going to stumble upon one of your hides when I'm down!

13-Jul-18
Visiting the area for the and according to my notes I picked this one up while here (sorry for the late log)

14-Apr-18
'The Mr' is going to be so upset that he wasn't with me to find this one... he's Star Wars mad! Up on a trip to Whangarei to visit my Dad and needed to get out and stretch my legs so a quick bit of geocaching fitted the job. Excellent description and hint led us straight to the cache but when I opened it the log had completely disintegrated and it was full of ants!! Didn't have a replacement log in my geo bag tonight so I've taken a photo of the cache instead. TFTC... well deserving of a favourite point from me.

10-Feb-18
Needing a cache to keep up my streak this was a good option and I wanted this as well as I am a star wars freak.
As it was wet I had to be careful getting down the bank and a quick find was made.
Neat container!!
Singed log, took pics and enjoyed the cache.
Definitely a fave from me.
Thanks for the cache!!

Was heading up to the Bay of Islands for the Westies excursion to Urupukapuka Island for the weekend. Decided to go up a day earlier to take some time and find a few caches on the way up to Paihia.

Having met up with Jag50 at a cache about half an hour south of Whangarei we headed into the main city centre to find somewhere to have coffee. Having met up with Jag50 at a cache about half an hour south of Whangarei we headed into the main city centre to find somewhere to have coffee. After coffee and breakfast we headed out to find caches with high fav points. This one being one of those.

Had to park a distance away and walked to GZ. We were a little distracted by an item that was obvious, but after reading the cache page more thoroughly, we realised the error in our way, and headed to the hint location. Not long after we located the cleverly themed cache container. A fav for me.

03-Mar-17
After a coffee break in Whangarei with Aiden29 we had a few targeted caches to find in Whangarei, before continuing on to Paihia. Parking was a little difficult in this area. A lot of wandering jew in the area, and we were distracted by something that we thought was the cache. After discovering this was not the cache, we re read the cache page and located the cache soon after. A well themed cache and earns a favourite point from us.

04-Dec-16
Out for my evening exercise jaunt and stopped off to try for this one. Was surprised by what an awesome cache container this was. I wasn't quite sure at first just where to open it to get the log, so I probably ended up signing the wrong paper..!! TFTC

30-Oct-16

Today we left Mangawhai heading towards Whangarei.
After checking into our accommodation, lunch & a rest we decided to find some caches closer to the city area.
Hubby made his way to GZ but I could something that looked a little odd from where I was standing.
Good team work here today.
Thanks for placing this cache Riser5

Had a great day out caching today, with the aim to collect as many TBs as possible to take overseas on tuesday. The aim was also to get ever so slightly closer to the 500 caches found mark.
Yellow lines on both sides of the road meant parking down the road and walking back to find one of the coolest caches in a long time.
Log signed and off to find another one.

I was in Whangarei with ten padawans and a muggle teacher from St John’s College in Hamilton as part of their camp week. Over four days and three nights we visited Orewa, Whangaparoa, Waiwera, Whangarei, Paihia, Waitangi and Russel. The boys literally ran from Geocache to Geocache trying to beat each other to the find. By the second to last day they had all at least found one cache each. They all seemed to enjoy the experience and hopefully will decide to keep Geocaching as a consequence. We found a great variety of caches in some amazing spots. A huge thanks to all the CO’s for placing and maintaining all the caches we found.

Having returned from a big trip north the boys were pretty tired but I was still keen to grab some more caches so I went for a late night stroll. The force was with me and I soon had this cool container in my hands.

I'm not going to lie- this is easily the best cache I have ever seen! I love it so much. Had to climb into the tree to reach but that was all part of the fun

It's been 8 weeks since someone has been here! I can see why; it's not the easiest cache to access. But I was glad I did, most unusual cache and fits in well with the title, thanks for bringing me here Riser5. Is there anyone else in Whangarei that has caches here? It would seem you have dominated the area. But I'm not complaining - I'm on a numbers run this whole Anzac weekend (for this month only), park n' grabs mostly, I'll leave multis and mysteries until next month when I can take some more time to solve those.

28-Feb-15
Very awesome cache =D

Fitting cache for my name.

Day 2 of our Waitangi weekend road trip to collect a few puzzle series of caches that we have solved over the last month or so - plus any other caches that we can find on the way!

Had seen this GZ last night but decided to wait until the morning to attempt. Glad we did as not a climb to be done in the dark!

Found the cache quickly. Awesome container!
