Well well well, it's archived hey. A little worse for wear but iIt's all there, even the means to extract the log, which I did. I'm counting this find. TNLNSL TFTC

Cant perform maintance on this one. Hope people have enjoyed the hide, opening the area up for others. Goodbye cache

14-Apr-16
Great concept, but as previously mentioned parts are missing and as such a good deal more effort is required to obtain the log (bringing along a coathanger/wire is a good idea). Didn't manage to retrieve it even after trying with several sticks, so we just decided to leave it.
Hoping that future cachers can fare better, or that this is restored to its original state. Smile

I found this cache easy enough. It was only when I tried to follow the instructions that I realised something is wrong. I unscrewed the top - after placing it at the base of the cylinder I realised that there is nothing magnetic about any components present. I was able to remove the base cap (easily) - it's broken slightly. There were immovable objects inside.

I then referred to previous logs and followed what "nikoff2" recorded. I found the hanger high up on a nearby dead tree. I inserted the hanger into the bottom of the cylinder and pushed whatever was inside near to the top. The hanger was not long enough to get it all the way up but I managed to get the log and its broken plastic sleeve out with tweezers. I signed it and returned everything as it was. The log is dry but a bit battered. There is no cap on the plastic sleeve. Hope you can restore it to its former condition - my geo-daughter found it some time ago and it worked as you described.

More detail in Maintenance Request - thanks Mr Roo for all your efforts in trying o give us a very unique experience.

04-Jan-16
retrieved with the aid of a coat hangar which is hanging on nearby dead tree, signed log which is in a little container with broken bottom. Needs work, but thanks for the cache.

05-Dec-15
Succeeded to get to the log book, but not in the magnetic way originally intended. It's doable, but definitely harder than the original way. Maintenance?

21-Nov-15
Found it, but couldn't get the log out to sign... as others have warned, the mechanism, however neatly envisioned, is a complete mess atm. Needs to be fixed. I advise others going after this cache to bring a long metal rod or a coathanger or somesuch, if you want a crack at it.

18-Oct-15
Found it, was hard to get and it needs Maintenance

Found with Coybear2000. We were nearby, so we decided to give this one a go. Neither of us had read the description, etc., beforehand, otherwise we might have given it a miss. We walked down from the road and saw many native orchids in flower. Soon spotted the hide, but what did we have to do? It reminded us of one we'd done previously that involved water. C read out the description, so we started looking for this elusive 'top'. But the tube already had a top on it. The bottom was off, so we had a look at that but it didn't do anything. C then read some previous logs and we decided to find a stick. With the help of tweezers we had the log out within minutes. It would have been nice to have seen this one when it was working. Very good concept. TFTC

18-Oct-15
Out with Trodectus today for a bit of cache hunting. As per previous logs, would have been good to do when cache was working properly. CIH after a bit of jiggery pokery. T was enthralled with all the native orchids in the area. TFTC

16-Oct-15
It's a shame we didn't do this one as intended as it looks a great concept. There's a stick wedged in the tube from below but we were able to still fish the log out from above. TFTC!
Cheers,

While this looks like it was originally a great cache concept, its now in a bit of a sad state. The presumably electromagnetic approach to retrieving the cache will no longer work, so Uni resorted to a more physical approach involving a slightly bendy stick. It worked surprisingly well, and we were able to sign the logbook. Nice location, with glimpses of the lake and city.

TNLN - Thanks mr_roo!

11-Oct-15
Found at 16:18 with Winter dragon
Without the magnet, we managed to coerce the cache put with a stick.
Thanks mr_roo

03-Oct-15
Found the cache but no idea how to extract the log...doesn't seem to be a magnet anywhere that I can see.
Great spot! Beaut view of the lake through the trees Smile

17-Sep-15
Very cool cache, but couldn't extract the log.

15-Sep-15
Nice cache but couldn't extract log. Appears to be a stick jammed in there.

The twenty-third find of the day on an adventure on Black Mountain. After testing a few other possible GZs for AB's multi, I was just about ready to give up. I decided to head to this one and then onward from there. I arrived at GZ after a short walk and found the cache in a very sorry way. The magnet has indeed gone missing and that makes retrieving the log very hard. I tried to get it out with a stick for a while but ended up giving up. Luckily the owner, who was very kind, gave me permission to log the find. I hope this one can be restored to full working condition soon as it is a great concept! TFTC mr_roo!

21-Jun-15
Great cache but needs some attention- no magnet and bottom of cache tube broken.

03-May-15
I have come across this style of hide before and really enjoyed them. Unfortunately this was in a sorry state and no longer works as intended, as mentioned by previous finders. Therefore alternative methods were required to retrieve the container. Took a loooong time to finally get my name in the log book. TFTC

02-Mar-15
A day off from work today. Picked up while completing another multi. Getting the container out of this one proved to be tricky. Some perseverance and ingenuity saw the container in my hands before too long. Thanks mr roo

22-Jan-15
My geokid pulled it out with a stick. Tried following instructions but didn't work.

13-Jan-15
found it .. thanks

04-Dec-14
Arrived at the cache and looked at the clue but it seemed as though that the magnet on the top was missing. Hope that you will be able to fix it

03-Dec-14
A quick find after work at 1730.

On my way up from the designated parking point, I had my own little slide and ended up with a bit of mud. Anyway, thats what you get for caching in the rain.

TftC!

21-Oct-14
I thought this would be a real hike to get here, but it was quite easy. There was a littl bit of water in the bottom of the container and the log felt ever so slightly damp, but was still okay to write on. Thanks mr roo!

Found at 1115. I always like these types of caches, and in its heyday I could see that this would've been a thing of beauty.

Alas, beauty fades over time, and like a long-time lover it seems to have lost some of its original attractiveness, although it does still has that cheeky charm that caught my eye when we first met.

I tried time and again to make it work like it used to, persisting long after others would have quit, but finally had to admit defeat - it seemed that the only way I would achieve satisfaction today would be to cheat.

I did what I had to do, then did my best to cover up the whole sordid affair so that to the casual observer things would appear as they always had. I left feeling content - but a little dirty. Thanks for the cache mr_roo.

Found 9:56 pm with LuckyL10n. Even though I'm not in good shape got to go out and keep that streak going. This was a shuffle through the sparse growth dodging rocks and fallen debris cache easily found, coords good. Signed log and away we went this time returning using the track for the most part. I was in the area in the past but left the caches further away from the road due to the company I was in. TFTC.

#2445 - 21:55; Out again with MrDamage to grab our nightly daily and decided that Black Mountain still had some pickings close to home to help extend our current streaks. Didn't park at the suggested coords as there were already 2 cars parked there. Continued a little way up the hill where I had parked the geomobile on a previous occasion, but this meant a little steeper climb through a gully than we might otherwise have encountered. Made our way to GZ where we had a quick find. Unfortunately wear and tear meant that the cache isn't operating as originally intended, so retrieving the log didn't require the skill it might have done in its younger days. Once the log was signed, we took care to replace things as best we could before following a trail back toweards the geomobile which made for a much easier creek crossing going back. as always, hardest way in and easiest way out. TFTC mr roo Smile

Came out to do Eastern Edge GCK54D, but thwarted by logging activity closing the eastern part of Kowen Forest. So decided to do the southern Kowen and Brooks Nature Reserve caches. The afternoon was then spent on Black Mountain. TFTC.

31-May-14
Fun. My firs find. Thanks

11-May-14
The log is pretty wet, dirty...which goes for the other items inside the hide.
Also, as previously mention, the 'slide' isn't setup and the bottom cap is loose/broken, a rock was placed underneath it to stop the cache from popping out!!

A nice fun find, although I think it wasn't set up quite right previously (undid the bottom and out it came...) replaced cache as found as I didn't know the proper setup.

Thanks! An amazing cache with a great view! Highly recommend this one

Dear Mr Roo
I looked for your friends in the area of this cache, but perhaps they were all partying at your place this afternoon. So it was a solo wander across to this excellent cache, relaxing after work on a Friday, the best time for geocaching!
Found the cache operations worked well and enjoyed the view to the west and south from here, new views of familiar areas, cool!
Thanks for the great cache. Found a really nice path on the way back to the geo vehicle, isn't it always the way!
Cheers

There has been a fire in area. Perhaps control burning? It took a little time to find the tool needed for this cache. Eventually it was found buried under mulch. TFTC.

Er ... I seem to be a bit behind on logging things I have found (something to do with having limited Internet access ... and at work where I do have plenty of Internet, I don't often have much spare time)
I am actually logging this a month after I found it (oops)
Went to a couple of different Science Week events near here, and had a spare hour or so in between them - so of course I had to go hunting for some nearby caches I had not yet gone looking for Smile
I don't know how people actually ride bicycles all the way up that mountain (but I have seen them doing it!) - I nearly killed myself riding my bicycle up the bottom bit, to find Back in Black, then I went wheeeeeeee back down again, and then realised I still had almost an hour of spare time - so I decided to wheel my bike into the bush beside the bike path, padlock it to a tree, and duck up and find at least one of these other 2 caches in the area - not so much duck as scramble! - up and down and up to this one, then down and up and down and up to the other one. I probably really only had time to look for one, but I kind of ended up looking for, and found, both ... So then I had to do a rather quick rush back down/up/down/... through the jungle to my bike ... "Where DID" I park my bike?! - oh - over there!" ... and some fast peddling along the parh, and I just made it to JCSMR for the Cyborg talk, right as it started Smile
I didn't read the hint for this one until now ... not sure it actually applied the day I found it - if I remember rightly I noticed the bottom was not attached, and was sort of half propped up on a rock, and I just removed and replaced rock to get log out ... I remember it was a little bit soggy ...
TFTC - lovely spot, great view, and I remember thinking it was a cool container at the time (and I think it is even more cool if it works how I now know it was meant to Smile

11-Aug-13
Loved this one!

11-Aug-13
Interesting little puzzle. The log in the cache had gotten wet and was soaked and illegible - replaced and started again.

28-Jul-13
Found easily. Getting the log book out was not so easy. Got it in the end, but the log was soaked.

12-Jul-13
Log too wet

11-Jul-13
Fun lunchtime find. TFTC

06-Jul-13
Wet wet wet.
Some tlc please as this is a really cool set up.

06-Jul-13
What a fun idea for a cache. Had me guessing what this was all about while I was approaching. Especially considering the terrain.

Unfortunately it's a bit broken and wet. Hopefully with a bit of tlc this can be fun again

It was to wet to sign and I didn't have any thing that would have worked as a replacement so I only left a small smiley toy.
Thanks for the fun fun idea.

19-Jun-13
Log roll very damp hard to sign

19-Jun-13
This was a very tricky one to get out of it's hide hole but very happy trying and once I got the log noticed it was very damp which made it hard to sign.

While doing Agent Basil's nearby Multi in February, I passed by this cache. My geoson doesn't like the multis but he does enjoy a traditional cache, especially with a twist. After giving this cache just a few minutes of my time to figure out, I decided I'd leave this one for him, and I carried on with the multi. Today, I finally got him here.
There is definitely nothing wrong with the tool. One just needs to approach this cache with lots of patience and time. My son had the cache past all the hurdles in no time at all but then when he went for the grab, it slipped away. This happened a few times so all in all it probably took about 20 minutes before we were signing the log. Unfortunately, we found the log submerged in water in it's container. After wringing it out and drying it as best we could, I was able to add our signature and claim the smiley! I didn't have any paper on me or else I would have added something dry for the next person.
Thanks for the challenge and the fun cache Darth V.....errr, ummmm, Mr Roo! Smile

05-May-13
Managed to get tool through side gap on first obstacle but couldn't get it all the way

30-Mar-13
Found the location easily, but extracting the cache proved more difficult then expected. As Flintstone's said, I believe the tool is weaker than the original, and i never made it past the second hurdle also. I suppose I'll try again later.

28-Feb-13
I was coming past here on the Basil meander and was looking forward to this given the Fav points and logs.
Idea was clear from the description and hint and the signs of ussage on the container. I tried carful with the given tool and there is no way. Tried straight and sideways as carful as I could for a good 10-15 minutes but was never able to get it beyond the 2nd hurdel. Even the first only a few time and it became clear to me that unless I am missing something major this is not possible to do with the given tool at the moment.
I challenge the CO to try himself.... my though is that maybe the since there is water at the bottom that the log got wet and is no too heavy with the given tool. The tool itself might be weaker than the original too, which made it hard in the first place and now maybe impossible...

A great idea but without seperate tool in my opinion at the moment not feasable. Thanks Mr_Roo

well that was a demonstration in overcoming frustration!

03-Feb-13
tftc, forgot there was a magnet already on it and brought a kitchen magnet with me, fft. still two magnets working together, you cant go wrong. nice to see the cache is now actually in working order.

'2013: 24 Days In A Row' - Found the cache without too much trouble, but it took a few goes to extract the log. A bit of fun for my last cache of the day. TFTC Smile

24-Jan-13
Mr roo, I am lovin your caches and this one is no exception! TFTC! Loved it Smile

16-Jan-13
Walked in from the nearby ACDC cache. Saw a number of things along the way that could have been the slide - a steep path? An even steeper gully? But I should have remembered that with mr roo it can be all in the container.

Unbelievably once I had seen it it took me a while to see it. A great but of fun getting this cache out and so exciting my first ever virgin log - not quite a FTF to it was exciting all the same!
Thanks mr roo

My turn to have a rave. Went to visit this cache acouple of weeks ago and found with the lid off. Now when someone tells a cacher to replace as found they mean it. I have been able to keep this cache going but now a little different, and for the people who found this cache when disabled. Well sorry but you didnt find the cache as hidden. Sorry to say your logs will be deleted. I found the lid of the cache. But was so angry that someone either a muggle or cacher stole the magnet out of it. Please read the clue and happy caching. Oh and remember PLEASE RETURN AS FOUNDED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

06-Jan-13
Will try to get to this cache this week

17-Dec-12
The lid was removed and we couldn't figure out how to get the log out.

17-Dec-12
That's why it is disabled waiting on a magnet please do not do this cache

16-Dec-12
found with shoobees, placed the lid on a tree limb near by the tube, sorry that the magnet was stolen Sad

08-Nov-12
Was in the area the other night and someone has removed the lid? Will replace soon

We didn't get to go our caching during the lovely weather but it was still a nice evening. We parked at the bottom and followed the road until it became a pile of dirt, after a search on the other side of the dirt hill we found the path and continued on our way. Miss Stormcatcher spotted the cache and then we worked together to get the log out, we had a chuckle at the discription joke, nearly had us fooled Wink. The log was wet, and probably needs a maintenance check. Thanks Mr Roo for a great cache on one of our favourite mountains.

19-Sep-12
Fantastic hide. Got the slide going eventually: persistence pays!

Log is a bit damp.

01-Sep-12
Tftc nice walk

19-Aug-12
Definitely a fav! We did have to tackle this one a couple of times until we got our hands on the log book, but got it in the end! TFTC, very cool.

04-Aug-12
Took four attempts due to a stick on the slide but were in the log! TFTC

23-Jul-12
Cache is all fine! Maintence done

19-Jul-12
We got to GZ but we could not get the cache out of it's hidey hole, so we couldn't sign the log and log a find. The extraction isn't working as well as it should have I don't think. This one may need checking. Fantastic idea though mr_roo, well done!

09-Jul-12
Found the cache easily enough and managed to get the top cap off. Heard the log hit the bottom but couldn't get the bottom cap off so couldn't sign the log Sad( HOTA

Awesome : Loved this one - gave the geokids just the right amount of frustration to make it a really satisfying cache. Thanks!!

Having a great day on the mountain with friends. Have attempted one of these before but it didn't work like this one. Thanks for the good design. SL..TFTC

Nice bush to walk in, clever cache, hint very helpful, TFTC

20-May-12
Sunday 20 May - a gorgeous sunny late Sunday afternoon autumn walk in the mountain. Easy find although GZ was 7m away. Pity I didn't have anyone to share this great cache with today. Here's where one of my favourites points must go. At first I was puzzled as to how to retrieve the log but I quickly figured it out - and retrieved the log after 2 attempts - as you need to figure out its querks. thx mr roo really appreciate the effort you put into this cache.

17-May-12
518. Arrived at GZ after bush bashing in the dark from the Oz Rock Cache. Had the day lights removed from me when a possum made a late dash for cover and I heard several other noises nearby that I probably didnt want to know of their origin. Had to resort to the hint for the container removal and it only took me about ten attempts to capture the sneaky little sucker. Loved it and a favourite point to go with it. Thanks mr roo.

27-Apr-12
Great cache, it took a couple of attempts to get it, but worth it! Nice spot also. TFTC

Found after having lunch at the gardens with family, while visiting Canberra for Anzac Day celebrations. Enjoyed this cache while out for a walk on a nice day. Thanks mr roo FTC.
