Unlike previous searchers, briars, blackberries and other prickles didn't pose a problem for us. It appears that poisoning and slashing by the council has removed almost all. Despite the removal of this ground cover, only one place bore any resemblance to a place that cachers would be familiar with and there was no cache there.
The D/T rating was the only attraction of this cache and its T4 rating is way over the top. That plus the presence of a large amount of rubbish means that I won't be returning.

Phone had us all over the place today so none of the trails seemed to help. Not even the photos. Maybe we came at it from the wrong direction. Bugger. Have to try another time.
Back in Ballarat this afternoon and took the opportunity to grab some caches before heading home. I wasn't sure what to expect with this one being a D:4 T:4. I managed to locate the cache fairly quickly and soon had the log signed. Apart from picking up a few prickles, I didn't find the D or T too hard, but maybe it is a lot worse when wet. TFTC ST37E.
On my way home from a quick trip to Mt Gambier for a meeting which has also given me reason for a caching trip.
Had a good look but this is a rubbish tip, maybe another time.
Thanks for placing this cache ST37E

Thanks for placing this cache ST37E
Had a quick look for this one. It was a bit wet so I scrambled up the bank, looked around a bit before I needed to get back to a cricket match nearby. Hopefully I'll get a chance to come back and get this one sometime.
Must have been the right time of year and approached from the easier side as this was a quick find after a short walk down the jungle path , caching trails helped . Tftc and I took a TB to move on
After circling the main drag a few times we finally found somewhere to have a bite to eat and a refreshing beverage for lunch.. dunno about Sweet Rebel Tee and OhDang, but my lunch was a bit stodgy (why o why would i select wedges and a pint??), and i definately needed a higher terrain cache to get myself moving again, and start to feel human again.
I'm not sure how we did it, but we seemed to enter the area from a sweet spot, and avoided many of the pitfalls suffered by previous finders. It was an easy wander to GZ where OhDang made an easy find of the cache. we signed the log, returned the cache and scrambled back to safety.
cheers ST37E, just what the doctor ordered.

It took a bit of searching as our gps units were all over the place but the cache was found. Dropped a tb that wants to visit terrain or difficulty 4 caches. This cache is both but I think we approached from the easier direction. TFTC.

Off to Ballarat for an appointment, after this was over the hunt was on. my plan was to grab a few caches needed to fill empty spaces on my D/T matrix.
Ok so around and around I walked, it seemed to take forever to grab this cache. But I wasn't leaving without it.
When I got to GZ my GPSr started playing up (due to the tree cover) it put me at one GZ only to change its mind and tell me I was 10m away, checked there and it was telling me another location so in the end it went in my back pocket and I had had to use what GEO sense I had.
After checking the obvious places at least a dozen of them, then there it was WOO HOO. finally got it.
checking my GPSr to see what it had, it had an accuracy of 12m and had me going 6m away but this was one of the better accuracies I had under here.

The road trip was on! Since we both started caching the Dak’s Emu Mob multi which ran from Melbourne to Adelaide was sitting about 1km from work taunting us (me for only 2 years but TurnerFamilyFTG for 3 years) as our closest unfound cache so we had to do a road trip. This and another multi from Melbourne to Adelaide and one from Adelaide to Melbourne where are main goals along with 100 in a day (including the big signal the frog trail) on one of the days of our quick 3 day trip. A lot of driving and “Woah stop , stop, stop here” was done.
The weather was terrible most of the time, raining, stopping, raining, stopping and really cold but it is winter.
So the car was loaded up with a heap of junk food and snacks, changes of clothes, pens, notepads, batteries, torches, etc and we set off from Melbourne at 6am. A lot of sudokus were solved in the weeks before the trip for the trail we were going to be doing as well. We were away on our biggest caching run ever.
This was our first cache for the trip because it filled in a D/T square and we had to head into Ballarat to check out some clues for a multi. Arrived at sunrise, absolutely freezing but we went into the jungle and after a couple of minutes search and a couple of steep climbs we had the log signed and we headed on our way.
Thanks ST37E for the cache, the hunt and the fun.

Day 1 of the SA road trip with Spiffy- with and this was on the list to collect. Made it by first light and was the start of the wet shoes which lasted the 3 days. Plenty of places to look but some logical thinking and sure enough the cache was soon in hand. Yay. Tftc
Not sure why the previous two DNFs but once at location I found the cache in the third place I looked. I think the satellite gods may have been smiling on me for this one. Signed the log and moved on.
Found on our way home from the S.A. Mega.
Coruze, and myself were pulling over and
grabbing some caches along the way which
were giving us the opportunity to stretch our legs.
Enjoyed the caches as we needed breaks after that event.

Found with Chosen1978 on our journey back to Melbourne after attending Oz Mega 2014. Got this one easy. Will take a 4/D 4/T anytime. TFTC
seeing this one we really wanted to log the 4x4. Took the jungle path and had the GC in hand instantly, not sure if worthy of 4x4 but will take it, TFTC logged find with Grnville86a
Found with Ahomburg, whilst in the area for the Mega, Thanks for the cache and an awesome weekend.. roadtrip away..

Glad we came from the top and glad we had 8 year old geokid to find it. Bit if an odd place for a cache. Usually geocaching takes us to scenic locations!
Out caching with Lumpyjrb, I had been putting off looking for this one due to the rating, but thought I should atleast have a look. This one turned out to be one of the quicker finds of the day, but still was fun. TFTC.
Quick find with Lionjrb on our first day of caching on our holiday from Katherine. Great to be able to log a 4x4. Not something I do very often. TFTC
4:39 pm Out and about with pprass and &others today like the good old days. Felt this one's was to high. Had us up trees and hanging five unnecessarily. The descent down was a little steep but on for a very short stint. Again it was Mrs P that pulled on her geo sense again. Have to agree with pprass on rating suggestions
Thanks ST37E.

Found at 4:39 PM GAFF4 in the company of xambo4u and & Others. We were really taken "up the garden path" on this one! A terrain of 4.0 suggests that it is up a tree in this area. And a difficulty of 4.0 suggests hat it is a really tricky hide. So we spent ages looking up various trees, only to find after 35 minutes of searching that it was a simple hide nowhere near up a tree [:(!]
Thanks ST37E.

With pprass and xambo4u we explored the environs of Ballarat and had a good day of caching. Thank you ST37E for the cache which took us a long time to find due to the jungle!
Like many others, I tackled it the long way (though not necessarily the wrong way!) and came up with the goods about five minutes after finding GZ. It was a little exposed so I covered it up a bit more before leaving, but otherwise this cache is in pretty good nick. I enjoyed the little climb, cheers ST37E!
Yikes, that took some time. We knew from reading past logs that this one was going to involve a lot of scratching around. So we made an assault on this one with 3 other caching teams, Rehfisch Clan, McLookers and Motndarg. After quite a bit of searching McLooker mum came up with the goods on this one. Thanks for the cache. ST37E.
Lots of onion weed and ivy. Found with friends, Glanville girls, Mclookers and motndarg.
Caching this afternoon with Rehfisch Clan, Motndarg and Glanville Girls, we thought this best tackled with as many eyes as possible. Following other logs, we came from the top. We all spent quite a bit of time looking (gloved hands to attack the onion weed) when we finally made the find. Onion weed was not the problem at GZ. The cache is in good condition, we signed and replaced. It is very well camoed. Thanks for the hide ST37E.
This cache was a difficult one, but it couldn't escape the 8 pairs of eyes hunting for it. Found! Thank goodness it wasn't raining. TFTH
Quelques caches avant un rendez-vous pour un travail ça ne fait pas de mal

Don't come from the bottom unless you're agile. The access from above is easy. After a bit of scratching around we found it.
Lots of work for no return. Congratulatioms to those who succeeded! Might return, might not.
Day number 17 of the 31 Days of Geocaching and after attending the International Geocaching Day Event – Buninyong, this was our second non-event cache for the day. This one had eluded us on our last visit, and we were really hoping to be in luck today. We had read and re-read the listing, and previous logs to give us some form of hint and help us be successful here. We spent quite a while searching here and we getting ready to leave as DNF (for us) when a final search of a particular spot turned up the cache, however the log was a bit wet (OK to sign though). Glad that we had found this one and also completed another D/T matrix combo, we happily headed back to the car and onto our Saturday chores.
Thanks for the cache ST37E.

We saw on our scan of caches in the area a 4/4 cache and then realised it was not a long distance so over we went to scout it out. We came from the top and soon realised the likely hiding spots as the GPSr was in 2 minds. We worked our way around and soon found the camo and made the find. We completed teh signign duties and re hid. TFTC

Found @11:26 #3008
On the run back to Melbourne with Ahomburg picking up caches as he went and this was one of a few found today.
A rare D/T combo and one we approach from the east without realizing that the a western approach would of been abit quicker.
A fun climb up to GZ and thankfully my goat like balance skills had me back at the car without incident.

This weekend had been a few months in the planning. My caching partner in crime SedgwickDave and I had decided on a cache out near Amphitheatre called "Glide with the Eagles" for our 3000th cache. The weather looked like it wasn't going to be too kind to us, but we decided to head off on this epic adventure anyway. We left early Saturday morning with the plan to be back home late afternoon on Sunday morning.
Now back in Ballarat from our #3000 adventure. Time to find some quality caches in the area. This was our second look at this one, we ended up parking in the wrong spot, so made the cache harder then it needed to be. Anyway, after a bit of hunting at GZ, the cache was finally located.
Thanks to ST37E for the cache. TNLN

Looked out the window this morning, and realised we were in for a bleak, drab winter’s day so we decided to go and get a few caches done before the rain set in for the weekend.
Was a bit slippery and slidey on this one, and we only spent about 5 minutes searching. Must have had poor reception today as the GPS stayed on the same distance and pointer no matter where we walked to. Gave up and will return on another day when the ground is drier.

After a trek up and down the jungle path, with 3 geokids on the hunt just as we nearly gave up all hope we tried one more tree.
this one was murder.... rain, wet leaves vines over grown everywhere, angle of the slope made the search extremely difficult. whole area was literally covered in a blanket of leaves
some cuts and bruises later we found the cache... TNLNSL
thanks to CO ... wasn't an easy find

After a big DNF here a year or so ago, this time the GPS was in much better shape, as it is AUTUMN! With a smaller search area the cache was in hand before too long.
We have had this one on our 'to do' list for a couple of weeks,
as we have passed the area a few times.
Today, we had a good run, and the cache was found.

Found @ 17:05 with Muggle-L. On a long weekend break in Ballarat and we dropped by here after picking up some supplies nearby. My equipment took me right to the cache, however I had a "boy look" and didn't see it. We then looked further afield for awhile until I checked the initial location again and came up with the goods.
Took nothing, left nothing, signed log and visited some trackables.

The jungle was quite inviting today, it was cool and shady. Sadly it is spoilt by the way locals use it as a green waste dump. The GPS'r was not overly helpful, however some previous logs pointed us in the right direction, we added our name to the log and retreated up the jungle path.
Satellites today had our GZ 7M west of where we found the cache.

Scratched around for quite some time in Ballarat's temperate rainforest before we found this one with the help of some previous logs. Might be hard in winter given the slope but nice and dry on a pleasant summers eve today. TFTC

Suscoe and the ageing bushfire ventured back up to Ballarat on this very cold day wishing at some stages that we had stayed at home in the warmth.
After starting the day off badly with a DNF (We now were we went wrong, next trip) not entirely our fault.
After a successful day after our poor start this one looked like spoiling our record as we could not find it but with some modern technology we read g ordo's log and that changed our thinking and the cache was discovered shortly after.
This one will need some looking after by the CO as it needs some TLC.
Thanks ST37E for placing another cache for us out of towners to find.

Couldn't find it. Not sure if my gps was messing up or not. Is a pity, such a cool spot. Might have to have another crack on my lunch break
Found this morning, presumably had been muggled, cache and contents were strewn in general vicinity. Logbook was slightly damp, but in otherwise good condition.
Replaced under leaves at base of a larger tree.

Rather pleased to make a quick find here as this slope could get treacherous after rain.
We went up the jungle path and as we came out we were winners. Nice geocache found.
This cache formed one of the many caches I grabbed on my overnight trip to Ballarat with Camping in a swag at creswick and a 1 of 3 flash mobs attended in 24 hours.
I was not sure what to expect and I was not in the mood for looking for a hard to find cache in heavy ground cover. I was happy to find this was not the case and enjoyed a quick find in a interesting location. TFTC

After dropping son no.2 off at his school formal, I had 3 hours to either stay in Ballarat and cache, or head home, wait an hour and then return for the pick-up. Think I made the right choice.
Night caching with a headtorch is a whole new kettle of fish, but there's the bonus of fewer muggles too
Funnily enough, I've been here a couple of times during the day without luck, and this time I found it within about 5 seconds in the dark. Sure I looked there previously..........thanks ST37E for the chance to cross this one off

I happened to be in Ballarat this afternoon as yesterday my brother in law had an operation on his sinus at a hospital in Geelong.
I travelled down there by train to collect him and drive his car back to Ballarat where he lives.
After taking him home and making sure he was okay, I cached my way back to Ballarat Station to catch a train (that turned out to be a coach) back to Melbourne. This was one of the caches I found on my walk to the station.
After a DNF at a nearby cache, I approached this one from below but could not find "the jungle path". I eventually bush bashed my way up the steep slope, nearly breaking my neck on several occasions, until I found what I thought was the path. The traversed this path towards the cache but it terminated in a patch of brambles. I worked my way up and around them and eventually found the path, and soon afterwards, the cache.
It was in good condition. I signed the log and then followed the path back down to the playing field level, again narrowly missing some calamitous slides in the damp grassy slopes.
Thanks for the cache.

I too was expecting a much harder find. Don't let the approach scare you off.
Proved to be easier than I was expecting. I was here once before with no luck. I wonder if the cache has moved, or simply the undergrowth had been pushed back.
Thanks for bringing me here.

One of the many enjoyable caches we found over our Ballarat Smackdown weekend caching with DazRascal, Blacklegend, Trailrunning & Quasar3671.
Thought be may have had trouble finding this one due to the undergrowth and ivy, however, plenty of eyes and the cache was soon located. A tad slippery this morning.
A good way to start the day. Many thanks ST37E. TNLN SL

On a Ballarat weekend cache adventure with Haveanez, Blacklegend, Trailrunning and Quasar3761
Wasn't confident in finding this one given the amount of ivy covering the area, but after many eyes scouring the area it was eventually found in a place we all walked passed on our way across the wet slippery slope.
Glad to have it ticked off,

One of 184 cache finds during our "Ballarat Smackdown" weekend of caching on the 23rd to 25th. There were 13 of us including Blacklegend and three of his kids, Trailrunning, Haveanez and their two boys, Dazrascal and myself amd my two boys Tyler and Cooper. We'd spent a few weeks planning the trip, with every Ballarat Puzzle solved in the area, cache lists and road and route maps all ready to go. We stayed in the Miners Retreat Motel for the two nights and the accomodation and facilities were great. Our goal was simple - find as many caches as possible in the time we were here !
We found a great variety of caches and hides during the three days, which also involved a bit of walking and some 4WD fun as well in the state forests north of Ballarat. The weather was quite cold of the Friday and Saturday morning but eventually cleared to nice sunny weather Saturday arvo and Sunday. We all had a great time, especially the kids who did really well to keep up with the pace we were moving.
Our second day of caching and it was to be our biggest day and fullest day too. With the terrain in front of us the kids stayed up top as an effort was made to get down to GZ. Slippery and the tree cover didn't help with our find but we were rewarded with the cache in the end. Thanks for the hide.

One of 182 caches I personally found during our "Ballarat Smackdown" trip. The trip included teams Quasar3671, Trailrunning, Haveanez, Dazrascal and myself. Caches included around 30 mystery caches, a few earth caches, lots of trads and multis and both day and night caching. Some 4WD action was encountered as well, which was great. All puzzles within 60kms were solved.
I took three of my kids, Jasmine 7yo, James and Jemma 5yo twins, traveling from Tocumwal. The trip covered 3 days and two nights, staying in Ballarat. Quasar3671 took his two boys as did Haveanez. One of the best caching trips I have been on, and certainly lots and lots of finds, almost clearing out the main Ballarat area. Home base was the Miners Retreat motel, which was quite pleasant and quiet.
This was a find on our massive Saturday run, which included both day and night caches. Lunch was a picnic in the bush at one or our cache stops. A night caching run was undertaken after a rest and dinner.
Loved this one, as did the kiddies who scrambled down the embankment to help with the hunt. Took a little while to locate, but once the GPSr's settled down, and the iPhone finally locked on, all was good. TFTC and a bit of a "jungle" adventure.

After a successful Friday evening to start off the “Ballarat Cache Smackdown” with 34 finds on the first day the Saturday was always going to be a day of superhuman effort. It started early with a run heading west and south, only to finish the day and night with a run to the Northwest and North. A great day was had by all because there was some good 4WDing and the weather held out for the day with only one notable shower. A total of 98 caches were collected today, and it shows you how quickly a cache can be located with so many searchers. This cache was one of them. We slipped and slid down the slope through the trees to retreive this one. Thanks for cache #36.

Suscoe and sister made the journey up and down the jungle path today, and we were very pleased to report that the gods were smiling on us this warm summer's morning.
An unexpectedly quick find brought a smile to our faces.
Thanks to ST37E for bringing us here.

Found with Amber,
we had about 13m difference on our GPS, Which is a shame because it is a combined GPS+GLONAS
