Great cache .. kids a little worried to start with - but good find!

07-Sep-24
Oh my giddy aunt! Went back and forth and pondered our way for 30 mins. Then we went over and under and slid and slid some more. Checked hint objects and were losing hope when we spotted it!! Yippee!!! Fp for the adventure.

23-Apr-24
Wow, this cache had me looking for quite some time. However my persistence paid off and the cache was discovered. Very happy to be able to sign it.. and yep, it's a terrain 4, climbing cliffs, long grass, trees and undergrowth. Thanks for the cache.#142

M25: back in 2022, a few months into joining team Sharkbait with my uncle and brother, aka, m15, I decided to go for the caches around Mt Wellington, went all the way around and found all the other caches, then this one came along. I approached GZ, and decided to head down when suddenly, one of the branches I was holding on to snapped and I fell a few feet, scraping my knee and partially my arm and neck on the scoria, had to use the rest of my water to wash some blood, I didn't think of finding the cache afterwards, so I took the long way around the loose scoria, and laid for about 5 minutes on the hillside, before heading back home, got Maccas on the way, heh...This time, me, m15, and Alpha, feel like we're gonna make that a nickname for him, drove over to the nearest entrance to try again, I felt a bit uneasy from the past time, but with m15s experience with outdoors cause of his recent field trips with his school, he made the approach to GZ very simply, took a few minutes to find, but he eventually found the cache, wow... good-sized ammo can. And nice to finally finish the area. We have to give a FP for the challenge. Log all good and signed. TFTC.

Didnt find today was contemplating whether or not, I should try scale down the cliff or not, until I realise that if you climb further up, its easier to get down, but once I got down, I checked everywhere under the border but didnt see the thing. I guess Im not looking hard enough but thank you very much for the fun hike !

23-Jan-24
Wow, this was difficult! Lots of scrambling through the long grass. I stayed on top of the cliff with the dog and sent the kids off the edge! They found it -voices sounded a few metres down from the edge of the cliff.

24-Sep-23
Combed GL around the bottom of the cliff for 20min before giving up unlikely its been muffled given terrain but might be hidden better than my abilities.

10-Sep-23
Found with DVNKSY, didn't take long to find once we looked down the hill more. TFTC!

10-Sep-23
Wow by far the gnarliest cache I’ve gotten to date! Battling the wonky GPS, the cliffs and gorse all while climbing down, what seems to be the last standing tree. GPS offers no assistance down the cliff - you must keep searching to get a handle on things.

06-Sep-23
It’s uni break, aka geocaching! Such a fun scramble down the Mt to get this! I read the descriptions then ignored it and be lined for the cache!

Read the cache page if you are struggling, and a few of the logs. Needed to get out and stretch my legs.... this differently did the trick. Lots of climbing.... Up, down, around, back down, then up, under, through, down some more, back up and jackpot.... just as I was gonna give up was headed back to the 'trail'. My jeans were were clean....

Find #274

Nice sized cache! I enjoyed weaving through the trees and going over and under fallen logs to get to this one. Interestingly saw a couple of orange DoC markers in the bush…Thanks for the hide.

15-Apr-23
Glad to have company on this one.
Fell going over the fallen pine and had to regain my composure.
Before making my way down.
Went up and down twice to no avail.
Widen my search and spotted it.
Fav point for the adventure

01-Apr-23
Second time coming here to find and it was right in front of me all along.

17-Mar-23
Well this one was a mission! I climbed down the cliff and looked and looked around and around and up and down.. to no avail for a long time.... I kept reading through past logs then looked at the spoiler photo. Then I looked around and saw that the spoiler photo was just a bit further away from the cliff than where I was standing, so I wandered over through the rubbish and grunge and there it was! Phew - thought I was in for a DNF here for sure! TFTC

24-Nov-22
Killing some time before flying home and this looked like a good walk with some interesting geology.
Parked on Mountain Rd then hiked up along the fence to the fallen pines. Scrambled down the scarp and started looking. Gps kept dragging me uphill. I had zero under the fallen pines and thought the box might be trapped. Widened search downhill from to some features mentioned in the hint and after circling twice caught sight of it. Signed and replaced. Then scrambled back up and continued on to the trig point.
Some good views from this spot. Thanks for placing.

22-May-22
Tricky cache! Not great for kids. Approach with extreme caution.

No cache for me. I saw myself falling down the cliff together with the big fallen tree.
Didn't understand the hint either. What does "cliff side" mean: on the cliff or under the cliff? Didn't see a way down there, so looked around where I was, came 1m close to GZ, but didn't see a cache.
I decided to try to find a way from below. Couldn't find, then left.

22-Oct-21
Found then got stung by a bee

14-Oct-21
Hard find after deciding to go down great find for the smarty pants

11-Oct-21
Will get after lockdown!

06-Oct-21
Was up this way getting the last trig for the lab cache so a quick diversion down, and around was just the thing. I got real close, but too high, before carefully descending and heading forwards. Luckily the cache was right in front of me and I added my least before a graceless scramble back up to terra firma.

And so, finally, we are allowed to go Geocaching again after just over 7 weeks lockdown when caching, and other non-essential activities were not recommended to be done to reduce the spread of covid, and reduce unnecessary movement through areas. Plenty of time on my hands to solve puzzles, not solve puzzles and read logs of previous finders of caches, and to message a few other cachers to discuss 'stuff.
Not a huge amount of caches found but managed my last 2 regional 'hidden months' (both from 2001) as well a Wherigo and a couple of solved puzzles and a final Ad Lab stage to complete that one. The weather was nice and warm and was good to be on the trails again and not cooped up getting up to meme mischief. Thanks to all COs.

What an adventure, came at it from the wrong angle to start but quickly figured out another path. Found with Lex007 great way to kick off a holiday week.

11-Jul-21
Wow that took some work!!! Took the wrong path but ended up 1m away but no way of getting it so had to trapse back and the return basically to the same spot. Well worth the effort...only a few minor grazes. Found with Sportynz

19-Jun-21
My second visit here at GZ.
This time I was with lumin298 and I was leading her on the way to "how to get it"or "get into it"
Challenging terrain even more in winter conditions.
But still cool and yes .... quite dangerous location.
How to get there?
Follow your GPS and try to have companion with you.
Good luck!

19-Jun-21
Found this one with Tramyard on the way to the Community Celebration Event nearby. This is the sort of cache that I would never attempt on my own, but I was very glad to have the help of Tramyard here who knew the best way to access GZ. Getting down there was okay and it was a relief to locate the cache so we knew our effort wasn't for nothing Smile I struggled a bit with getting back out again, but with some much appreciated help we managed to both get out alive! I'll give this one a FP because this is the sort of cache I enjoy the most--something where it really feels like an adventure to find it. TFTC!

18-Apr-21
How do you get to it

26-Mar-21
Wrong place down the bottom of cliff
Gonna go back and find it soon

07-Nov-20
Yay!
I was in the area of Mount Wellington while doing Adventure Lab called Auckland’s Predominant Peaks!.
Decided to visit this spot at last!
Terrain revenge for Rangitoto Island lava rocks huh Wink ?
I will say no more .... Coordinates spot on! Hint very helpful.

Wow!
This really earns it’s T4!

What a mess of trees right now!

My GPS was pointing me right into the middle of the three fallen trees, I searched around and couldn’t get the spoiler picture to line up.

After a few circles around the area, as I was about to give up, something caught my eye and there it was!

Cache signed and put back! All good there!

It’s not so close to the trees / a bit less elevation, but there are hazards everywhere around here! Be careful!

Thanks for the fun cache! Always like a challenge!

In the area with Merlot58 we decided to make this our last cache for the day. After parking at the given coords, we climbed up the very dry grassy bank looking for the best approach to gz. MrsJAG climbed down the steep bank and started to search for the cache. Merlot directed her from above using the spoiler picture to possible locations and it wasn't long before the well concealed cache was located. The terrain rating is a true reflection of the area at gz - being steep with lots of logging debris to climb over. FP for the adventure today. Now off to get a well deserved icecream on a very hot sunny day.

01-Feb-20
This cache has been on our to do list for a long time and as we were in the area today we decided to attempt it now that it was back in action. It was a hot walk up the hill in the long dry grass and we had to be careful with hidden branches underfoot from the tree felling. Once we reached gz Mrs Jag slid down and started searching while I pulled up the spoiler photo and directed from the top. The cache was very well hidden and took a few minutes to spot. This cache certainly earns it's T rating and it's one that we are pleased to finally tick off the list FP added for the adventure

24-Jan-20
I've been meaning to do this one for a long time but it had only been recently re-activated. I went for a from the waypoint and precariously lowered myself down from above. I admit to using the hint photo as the GPS was bouncing, and I found it nicely tucked away Smile TBs taken, TFTC!

19-Nov-19
Cache is back in place; slightly different hidey spot. Hopefully out of view of the workman in the lot below. Coordinates updated to reflect this. Terrain, as well as being steep, is now covered in logging debris. Hint added and spoiler pic included. Two TBs dropped. Happy hunting!

Unfortunately, I was defeated by the wet weather today. Will revisit once it has dried out again. Sorry for the further delay.

20-Sep-19
When I last checked--a few weeks back--there was still tree felling happening in the vicinity. I won't reposition the cache until I am sure the area is safe. But, I will make another effort to check on things in the very near future. Thanks for your patience.

Flippin' 'eck that was a mission and a half!!

I'm currently up in Auckland for the Queens Birthday long weekend, and have been meaning to get around to doing a few of the more interesting caches in the Mt Wellington area.
So seeing as the weather today was bloody gorgeous I figured "why not?"

Having read previous logs, I was unsure as to whether I should approach from above or below, so I thought I'd just go take a look from the bottom and then make my decision. Unfortunately, when I got to the bottom I discovered that a great deal of ground clearance work has been going on very close to GZ.
I tried walking up the side of it first, via the public footpath, but when I got to within 12m of the cache I could see it would be on a different level entirely, and within the boundary of all the groundworks.

So I climbed back down to the bottom and snuck into the area behind the security fences. Immediately I could see a large exposed cave, which I was sure would be very close to GZ so scrambled my way tentatively up the scree slope made by the clearing away of all trees and vegetation towards the cave. When I got there I had a good hunt around, but could see that so much of the area had been cleared so figured the cache to be lost.

However, I took a slightly different route on the way down and found a plastic 'Zombie' ammo can half buried amongst some tree branches. When I opened it, I confirmed that it was the cache as the logbook was still inside! It has obviously come half way down the slope as the clearances have been taking place, but cannot have been spotted by the men doing the work.

So I have taken the liberty of removing the cache from the site for it's own good. I have it with me and will gladly return it to the CO if they want it, either to maybe reinstate elsewhere on site or else to re-use for a different cache.

I had a great time looking for it, and am giving a FP for the adventure!

01-Jun-18
Cache not currently in place. GZ currently fenced off for tree felling.

09-Oct-17
Yup, that was a little bit of work I wouldn’t bring small kids to this one

Absolutely loved this one. Dropped on from above, located cache bang on co-ordinates and had the dexterity to exit downhill. Thanks for the info on the mountain too!

11-Jul-17
Well....What a big adventure !
Had a quick look at the terrain a couple of months ago...then I had a few hours free today ...so just went for it !
Would really have preferred some company, but my free hours don't fit with other people's very well...
Was very pleased to find it...co ords actually spot on !
The trickiest part of the terrain for me was lack of stable hand holds .
Expected at several moments to tumble down hill , but luckily didn't. ...
Thanks for getting me out of my comfort zone Lostcourse.
Favourite .

Out and about picking up a couple of caches. Almost at 2500. Dropped in from above and began the search as we climbed down. Should have trusted the GPS and started our search there. It would have saved some time. Kiwiscot found the cache where the GPS was indicating. Great fun but slippery underfoot with the wet ground and plant growth. TFTC #2499 Smile

Reading back through previous logs we had a good laugh at the note from the 31/05/2014:
"thanks for the box you weirdos"

Well that was a bit of a scramble up down round and round on a steep bank is always fun and makes for a great adventure. Had directions being passed in from above and finally made the find. Co ordinates are spot on and wish I trusted them right from the start. Love the big cave and there are lots of little caves where cache could have been. Thanks for a fun adventure Smile

I spent far too much time convinced I was in the right spot. When I finally decided to give up, I thought I'd go around that particular place on the way back up and lo and behold there it was! If only I'd gone all the way around earlier on... #70 Cool box.

Boy o boy this one got me puffing.
Mad at my gps 3meters 2 meters 15 meters what the...
Sat down and thought I've wasted my lunch break.
Then the extremely well hidden Ammo tin caught my eye.
Yay lunch time wasn't wasted after all.

GPS wanted me to go over a nasty cliff. After having misjudged one of the "dry" cow pats here I felt that it was more important to get clothes into the washer... TFTC but was not to be today...

A few of us got together to plan our new years last night and of course the talk turned to caching. I had my eye on this and another on the mountain as I needed the terrain ratings to complete the licence I am currently working on. NZ Travellers were keen as they didn't have either so a plan was hatched to meet up this morning. Then as we arrived UncleSamNZ decided to join us and NewlynFam came along a little later so it turned into a bit of a party up the mountain.

This was the second of the ones I specifically wanted to get today. The drop looked a bit scary until we found the drop area and we were soon on our way. We did go around in circles a bit until we made the find but we got there.

I love spots like this that I would never have found if not for caching so a favourite for this one.

Thanks for the cache.

Out with keylev, laval and some friends. Had lots of fun up this mountain today. I was a bit nervous to jump down for this one but once there I joined in the hunt.

Thanks for the fun and cache!!

Thanks for the fun and cache!!

Had been to an evening with a few fellow cachers when the idea was muted to do a few caches on Mt Wellington. How could I refuse as we needed these to clean the area up.

Headed here with Keylev, UncleSam, Cragger and Laval and Newlynfam.

We knew this was going to be a challenge and the initial approach wasn't looking to bad. However within 16 m of GZ it all took on a different perspective!

UncleSam pointed us to a slightly better approach however it was still a significant drop and bravely the two younger cachers with our group also took on this drop.

Once we had all navigated this it was a careful cautious step by cautious step down the bank. Our GPS's were bouncing all over the place but eventually we made the find.

A great adventure that was enjoyed by all and gave a huge confidence boost to the younger cachers.....

I had originally said no to joining the caching party made up of keylev, cragger, laval, NZTravellers and UncleSamNZ, as I had a 10km walk scheduled with my workmates earlier that morning. However, I finished earlier than thought, so thought I would go and meet the others, as I had a couple of hours spare.
We had found a couple of others on Mt Wellington, so decided to come get this one too, as keylev wanted a high terrain cache. Made our way towards GZ.... not too bad so far, then.... hello!!!! A huge drop. How on earth were we going to get safely down there? Wandered up and down the ridge a bit until we found a bit of a shelf that we could clamber down from, with the help of some tree roots. We all made our way gingerly down the slope, small cachers included.... having a bit of a giggle as we hunted here, there and back again, finding many likely spots. Finally we got there, when we found another likely hiding spot.... yup, there it is!!!!
This cache was super fun.... love these challenging ones, so a fave point added for the adventure, and the opportunity to explore!
Thanks Lostcourse!

No luck today. I had 6yo son with so it would little but dangerous for him. Will try next time.

Our most challenging & most rewarding cache so far! We started off by approaching from above, but after climbing over the barbed wire fence & heading towards GZ, we realised it was down the cliff somewhere. Not seeing anywhere for an easy descent, we headed down the mountain, following a trail, until we reached the road. GZ was now on the other side of a fenced business. We followed the fence along the road, & then continued following the electrified fence around the back perimeter of the business, until we got as close as we could get to GZ, which now appeared to be up the cliff face! We considered abandoning the search, but as we'd already come this far, we headed upwards like a pair of mountain goats (but maybe not quite so nimble.) It was quite a challenging climb, through the wandering jew, hanging onto trees & bushes for dear life. Once we reached where we thought GZ might be, we checked the phone, only to find the tree cover was interfering with the GPS, & it was now all over the place. The only thing to do was spread out & search the area, including the cave, under & around rocks & trees, & down rabbit holes. We wouldn't have been surprised to meet Alice & the White Rabbit. Eventually found the cache - very well hidden out of sight of casual passers by - which apparently there have been around here, as some muggles have signed the log. We decided not to try to climb back down the mountain, as we were closer to the top, so we made our way upwards & eventually emerged where we had started from! Smile

Short walk as the weather was good before meeting friend in Auckland. This mount is impressive and I really wanted to have a look at it.
Access to the cache is very diificult and the terrain rating is important : be carefull if you're looking for it.
First challenge was to find a way to reach the right area. then GPS and terrain are not helping so much as there are so many places to hide a cache ! After 15 min on site, I finally found the box, very well hidden.
All is in good condition.

I was out with casaba3 and her geodog and we walked up to the trig and had a go at the earthcache. Then for some reason we thoguht we'd have a look at this one. By the time we got close to it we'd already had a bit of adventure trying not to slide down the hill (someone living ina makeshift tent up there too). The cliffs put us off and we walked all the way to the bottom and then read some of the previous logs. At which point, having made it this far and needing to get back to the car anyway, we went back to closest point for a more thorough look at which point casaba3 worked out where the likely geotrail was. Not being able to take geodog she stayed at that point and I 'dived' in while she directed and made positive comments. So many hidey holes! And the find was made after a lot of time (didn't want to give up after making it that far) in a spot I'd already been. How annoying I hadn't looked more thoroughly in the first place. Ever so glad to make the find after having ripped my trousers in the barbed wire! Certainly an adventure and not one I was going to undertake at first look. Thanks Lostcourse, def a T4!

23-Apr-15
Always nice to do a spot of caching with a friend and lucky for me today sisters united (the ball in garball) and had an unexpected opportunity to make some finds. I don't think either one of us was planning on doing a T4, what were we thinking? A bit of up and down traipsing and the creating of new long grass pathways, I did wonder if my relatively small geodog was going to fall into some unseen hole and she is still in training so not the most patient during the search. Managed to navigate barbed wire and find a way into the abyss but this was not the place for puppies so sat and supported from my perch, watching the rain come in across Auckland and killing a large number of mosquitos trying to feast on my bare skin (not sure I dented their population numbers much though). The rain actually held off the Mountain pretty much till we got into the car, just a few drops on the way back to the far carpark!! Was quite exhausted when I finally got home. Thanks for the adventure Lostcourse.

Slight change of plans and shift in the evening program meant that I ended up in the area with a bit of time on my hands [{:] and what better way to use it than to go exploring! I got to 'gz' after a bit of circling around trying to find a possible access down the cliff, but then ground zero was a circle with a diameter of 15m according to my GPS, so it was a question of searching for a while, but not in vain. Cache soon in hand - and the logbook includes some muggles entries, why on earth would you come here specifically if not looking for the cache?? At this point though I realised and I am in no state to go for dinner where I was heading, even if I change, but luckily remembered that I had togs in the car, and there was an outdoor pool nearby! First things first though, a couple more caches to be sorted Wink Thanks for a very cool cache placement!!!

We had tried this one a few weeks ago but was quite late at night and light was fading so didn't chance going over the other side of the fence. Decided to make it first on the Saturday morning list this week and got going on a beautiful morning. This took us about 20 mins once we got to gz both Mr & Mrs beconaze were insisting that we were within 2m despite being quite far away from each other, and we got put off by a few other geo trails. Eventually Mr beconaze made the find and we got the smiley. A few scrapes and scratches along the way - drew blood on 3 out of 4 knees!

Part of our adventure to get 20+ 4T rated caches in a day. A team effort to scramble down the bank and locate cache.... and get back up to the grass! Barbed wire got me - but it wasn't the most impressive blood lose of the day for the team.

Thanks for the fun.

A mad bunch of Hamilton Cachers decided to knock of the "Only a Matter of Time Challenge" of 10x T4 Caches in one day. A lot of planning had gone into what caches we each needed and what route to take to said caches. We picked a day with some lovely weather and some fantastic caches and some downright hard caches. Thanks for the adventures HKCB, Catsndragons, Iammrwalker, Kiwiteacher, Kiwis69 and Zorgon.

An interesting wee spot, think we all upped the terrain a little on the way to the find but that's all part of the fun right. It isn't geocaching if you don't bleed a little. Thanks for the cache!

Yet again, attending a caching event in the mighty ‘Tron leads to an insane caching mission: this time, we’re a band of seven intrepid Waikato cachers determined to qualify for stretch.kerr’s "Only a Matter of Time Challenge” http://coord.info/GC4567H - 10 finds x terrain rating of T>=4 to be found on the same calendar day. A list of potential finds was draw up & carefully discussed, with plenty of extras included to allow for the risk of a few DNFs and to also allow enough finds for those in our group who wanted/needed to avoid killing untold numbers of caching fairies (see fine print of the challenge about re-visiting previously found caches). Much plotting about caching order then ensued to allow for likely traffic flows around the metropolis and, more importantly, low tide times to avoid the need for kayaks. Set off early in the company of HKCB, CatsandDragons, Kiwiteacher, Iammrwalker, 11hpg11 and Zorgon to start the onslaught; thankfully the weather gods were on our side & the day could go ahead as planned.

Arrived here with 4 finds already under our belts & feeling very gung-ho about the day ... until we looked over the edge from the top - gulp. Found what looked to be a slightly easier route down, then spread out for the search & it didn't take long before the 'found it' cry was heard ... to be followed very shortly afterwards by stifled groans as yet more war-wounds were added to the growing tally for the day on the way out. Thanks for the adventure & TFTC!

04-Jan-15
Today was the first day of the new year for a large combined mission of Hamilton cachers for the "Only a Matter of Time" Challenge requiring 10 x T4 caches in a single calendar day. With two cars we set out nice and early to "Knock the Ba&t@rd Off" (in the words of a great adventurer).
We finished the day with a total of 21 caches that qualified , only 4 required special equipment (ROPES), and two I had found previously along with a FTF on the way home which was a bonus to end the day.

We arrived nearby and began the ascent before the descent. On looking over the edge we collectively thought, "this is going to be fun". we located an easier way down and fanned out to make the search. there is now a distinctive geo trail across the hillside, however there are many geotrails as we went different ways before the call "Found it". The return up was an adventure in itself and we added to the collection of scrapes for the day

thanks for the placement

04-Jan-15
Not sure why but there seemed to be a competition amongst the Hamilton crew to find who would spill the most blood on this trip. This was only cache number 5 for the day and a number of us had already qualified.
A nice scamble down the bank and a quick find with so many eyes looking.
Many thanks

04-Jan-15
This was a fun and memorable cache while on a mad mission with six other Hamilton Geocachers as we attempted to complete the 'Only a matter of time challenge' which requires you to find 10 T4+ caches in one day. Being over achievers we found twenty one, a puzzle and snatched a FTF as well. The climb up was more eventful than the climb down with Zorgon demonstrating a text book combat roll after been given some 'help'. Thanks for the adventure.

Coming down from the top on our Maungarei Walk, we decided that the top was not the place to be based on the cliff edge and the cache altitude, so we went down to the bottom. Didn't seem to be any way in there either, so took the cache's advice and walked around to the main gate, and then followed the fence line in. Eventually got to where it was 18m straight up, so Miss & Mr Jacksonz started climbing, while Master Jacksonz searched for an alternate route, and Mrs Jacksonz established base camp. Phone GPS not much use under trees in rock shadow, but checking a likely looking spot not far from the top came up with the goods. Huzzah !

The top seemed closer and easier than back down, so clambered up to meet up with Master Jacksonz who'd come right around identifying a third way into this cache. Thanks a lot for a great explore off the beaten track. FTF at the new location Smile.

Excellent cache spot, best part of the mountain as far as I'm concerned, I came in from the road co-ords you gave, went up then across then down, cache was up the hill by 14m from GZ by my reckoning. Walked down to council buildings and back to car. I giving this one a favourite just because I loved the difficulty of getting to the cache!

Awesome cache! Real bush whacking. Tftc

A great cache, and tricky terrain... One of my favourites

Finally got (to) this one. My nephew Ryan was kind enough to make sure this old lady didn;t roll down the hill on the way and back from the cache. t4tc

Third attempt at this one although only second time to gz. The first time we thought there must have been an easier way in. Second time Dad went down on his own but had no luck. This time Dad; 9 yo and 4yo went down and Dad came up with the goods.
Could the next searchers keep an eye out for Dad's sunglasses lost somewhere between the cache and the broken part of the fence. Happy to find the cache - not so happy about the sunglasses.

Found at least a year ago on my second attempt but apparently forgot to log it. Exciting climb down past the scoria cave.

Was out with sonia26642, YuGeo4 and Phasevisitor doing the multi around the mount. Stopped by and got this one on the way.

Glad to get this one off my list Smile

WOW... the terrain is right up there... literally! Wink

Went up the side from the trailhead... found a likely spot for climbing down which was only a small 6 to 7 foot drop, but plenty of hand/foot holds... then went around in circles following a couple of different "paths" for a bit due to GPSr taking it's sweet time to settle...

Had one major slip... where the "ground" wasn't quite as solid as I had thought... resulting in my foot going into a very large hole. "Thankfully", a large rock and my thigh broke my fall!!?! Should bruise up nicely! [B)]

After that, I was definitely a bit more cautious... and eventually found my way to GZ... was indeed easy to spot, once you got close to it... Contents nice and dry...

Found myself in the neighbourhood, so I'd thought I'd drop in and check on this cache. Mt Wellington is a really neat place and always enjoy a visit here. All is good and dry in the cache.

It is really a difficult area, after found the very nice cache o walked down, this was wrong because I was jailed in an premises, so I had to walk up steeply again. TFTC, Jocklgraben-Austria

Have wanted to tick this off for awhile but scared of what terrain might be. We dressed with pants, boots and gloves that could take mud, scoria et al. Took the high road. Worked a charm. Loved the caves and hide. A great adventure but even doable (just) for us old farts. A fav. PITO TFTC

Lycurgon wanted to something of a challenge for his 500th cache so off we set today to pick up a couple before heading for this bad boy. A lot of scrambling and sliding and got to where we thought it would be, hunted around a bit, I got a little tired so sat down to have a little rest looking around and notice a bit of wood that looked out of place and bingo I'd pretty much sat down right next to it Smile
Was even more of an adventure getting back again but was worth it. TFTC!!!

I wanted to do something challenging for my 500th cache. I was planning something else but wasn't ready to do it, so decided this one sounded worthy. Me and Reveurs went up the path from the road. When we got close to the cache we went through the fence and looked around for a way down. A small climb down a cliff and we were on a path of sorts. We looked at a few places. Reveurs had a sit down while I checked out a few more places. She soon noticed the cache next to her resting place. Then we had to figure out how to get out of there. Thanks for a challenging cache and an fun adventure.

Yay, 500 caches! Smile

With the whole team out and about today the girls made an executive decision that this cache was one for the boys. As both of them are as nimble as Welsh mountain goats it made complete sense that the girls waited in the car. The boys were back at the car within 15 minutes and we were impressed with the speed of their find, however that is not to say we approve of the direct route they took but they reckon it was just great. Found orginally as part of phasevisitor team, now created own account, re-logging as yorkshirekiwi83.

We have been meaning to do this cache for a while now and decided to have a crack at it this fine winters morning. We started at the suggested co-ordinates and made our way up the hill, after negotiating the first couple of obstacles we soon found ourselves close to GZ. Something caught our eye, which turned out to be a pile of tissues, but that actually lead us straight to the cache nearby! After signing the log and dropping off a couple of TBs, we retraced our steps and were back at the car about 30mins after starting. A fun cache to do and a favourite! Thanks for the cache!

Our second or third attempt at this one (this time was a SERIOUS look) - and this time Dad even made it to what he thought would be GZ... Mum waited patiently with 2YO and 5YO; Mum and 5YO had received a few scrapes on the way, and Dad received a few on the search for the cache... unfortunately all the blood-loss was for nothing! Looks like this one is going to stay on our "not quite there yet" list for a while longer!!!

This one has been on the "to do list" for a while and am stoked to have finally completed it - and great to have done it with Vamber.

The stories that will be told re fences climbed, lives put at risk and clothing ripped will keep us going for a while!

Despite this, once at GZ, the actual cache wasn't too difficult to locate.

Getting home was easier - both because we found an easier route and the extra spring in our step from knowing this one had not got the better of us!

This one has been on our to do list for awhile, after a previous failed attempt. We finally teamed up with Team KiwifruitsNZ to knock this one on the head.

What a great morning of caching! The ripped and muddy clothes have been worth it!

We have tried this one a couple of times in the past, but beer drinking teenage muggles, poor choice of footwear, and inclement weather stopped us each time. This Easter we decided that nothing would stop us, and headed out with Caboose to knock it off. A scramble down, some triangulation and a good guess as to the GZ and we had it!! Our 450th find!
An excellent cache! TFTC Wink
