went for a paddle today with the hope of ticking this one off, should have read the earlier links and saved myself the time. however it was still a great place to be i will wait for a replacement
Previous finder couldn't locate it three months ago, last seen over six months ago.
This was the last cache on our saved St Kilda list, and unfortunately today wasn't our lucky day. Still managed to have a great day out on the water in our rented kayaks and a nice gelato afterwards while waiting for our clothes to dry out. Will keep an eye on this one to see if it's definitely still there. TFTC
I found the cache before and today I wanted to drop off some TBs ... without luck
First time we have paid money for a cache and got a DNF. searched for 15mins before we had to return our kayak. Hope it's still there.
Saw this one in the map and had to find it. Dragged my friend along and glad I did since he spotted it. Great hide! TFTC
Replaced the container (which was a bit tired and worn). It is now bigger and better.
Replaced the log (which was a bit damp). It is now a 'water proof log'.
Restocked the cache with swaps. Fun for the kiddies.

Today was a pleasant enough day, so Dave and I jammed the yaks on the top of my car and headed for Gunn Island on Albert Park Lake. We left Dave's place sometime after 9.30 having managed to get both on the one car for the first time and happy with that achievement.
Upon arrival at the suggested parking spot, we managed to both launch within about 15 minutes. A nice easy paddle across the lake to GZ where we spent some time feeling, searching, standing and nearly ending up in the drink, but finding the prize eventually only 2-3 metres from where we started. This one has been on the list for a while, glad to now have it crossed off.
Thanks to PoleCat S for the cache.
Cache condition Good. Log book slightly damp, needed a felt tip pen to write with.

As today was Easter Monday had the dry free to do some caching this time in an area of Melbourne I don't often visit. Along with me was Ahomburg with today's aim to target some of the water caches in this part of town. Ideal weather and a light breeze.
Been keen to attempt this one for a long time. Last year in October I finally got myself a Yak and today as it was a public holiday and it had been a few weeks since my last paddle I decide today would be the day. It was overcast there was a little wind, I think around 10 knots which was find for getting over to the island in a couple of minutes. Once at GZ it took a couple of minutes to locate the cache with Ahomburg spotting the clever camo. TFTC PoleCat S a favorite[^]

What a superb day!
Working locally this has been a goal, like, for ages. Ok, I've only been caching for 6 months but work with me here. Today had been scheduled for budgeting and paperwork but the sunshine , great temperature and absence of any serious wind tempted us outdoors.
And this was a spur of the moment decision.
I had a little sea kayaking experience, having done a camping trip through the Yasawa islands, off Fiji. My partner was short of experience but long on enthusiasm. So we rented a canoe on the lakeshore and headed off. What a superb day!
Dodging cygnets and attendant mums we circumnavigated the lake and closed in finally for the kill. I was a bit paranoid of dropping the Garmin into the murky waters but our efforts were rewarded promptly.
First T5 - Yay!! A favourite.
Did a few blistering victory laps of the island and headed back to shore and onto lunch.
Great day, great cache!
( Log is quite wet and thanks to hippowaffle for leaving the pencil, easier than fetching ours out).
Thanks and cheers!

TFTC. Thought I'd pick this one up in the sea kayak as it seems a bit unloved in recent history with only 3 finds for last year yet quite a few the year before which is surprising considering the great location.
Anyway, nice day for a paddle and started off at the Powerhouse boat club and did a lap of the lake taking in all of the water birds including numerous swans, ducks and pea fowl, a couple of herons and a lone pelican. Headed over to island and headed to GZ and picked it up readily.
Cache is quite wet - luckily I had a pencil with me so I could record log as the cache pen wasn't going to write on the wet paper. I have left pencil out there for those that follow and if I get out there again I might throw a new log in there. Vegetation has grown out from island making it a little difficult to get to but definitely not too hard. Thanks again, well worth the trip and a favourite point for the journey it entailed. First time kayaking on the lake and I will return... Thanks again.

Came down on a Saturday Arvo for a bit of a paddle and to hopefully log my first cache accessible only by kayak/canoe. Unfortunately I was unable to locate the Cach, spent about 10 minutes looking before paddling away and coming back for another ago to make sure I had the right co-ords. It was late in the arvo so low light and fairly windy may have been factors.
Hope the Cache is still there may come back another time to give it another go.

Great cache! Really appreciated you bringing us here. We were searching for a unique cache to find in Melbourne and saw the icon sitting in the middle of a lake! What could be a better, or more fun, cache than an island cache?
We stopped by hoping to find a kayak for rent; sure enough, there was. We paddled around and found the cache. Log was a little wet...promise we didn't drop it in the water! Thanks for bringing us here...

A great Cache. We Launched from the far end of the lake to make a good paddle of it. The wind seemed to be against us in both directions, making good splash targets of myself and my mate.
I read the hint and left the GPS in a dry bag within the kayak initially and ended up looking at the wrong spot for a while. I braved taking the GPS out of the bag eventually and soon had the prize in hand. Nice Cammo.
Thanks for the cache.

We had an awesome day sailing and paddle boating on the lake. Nice hide with great camouflage. TFTC
Found today with _husky_, on my birthday We hired a kayak nearby, went around the island and then grabbed the cache. Loved the camo
Found together with nadya. Has been kayaking for the second time ever and enjoyed it so much. It was rather windy and waves were rocking kayak back and forward, it was a bit scary at first (especially as my GPS isn't waterproof) but then it became fun. Another problem is that wind was pushing kayak forward all the time and once we missed the GZ we had to go all the way around the island for the second attempt. It also wasn't easy to keep kayak steady while doing the search and also to do the correct approach. It took time to find this container. Cool camo and what a lovely place for the cache.
Managed to arrange an RDO and catch a wondering son and a kayak from a friend. We started out at Herring Island, then went to the Docklands and thought this would round it of nicely. Nice easy parking, and a perfect day for a row on the lake. I use to work in this area in what I call my former life and boy it has changed. I must say for the better, but for the old Carrasole resturant which was a big favourite of our time.
We decided to do the full loop around the island to check it out. Excellent hide and well discuised.
Thanks for bringing us here.

This one has been on my must do list for a while now, so when I had to take the kayak down to Albert Park for work today I was determined to grab this cache either before or after work commitments where sorted out. Typically running a bit late and then having a lot of things to organise once I got to the park, there was no chance to grab the cache before our clients turned up, so had to wait until after the event was finished and all packed up before I could sneak off for a quiet paddle and cache hunt. I pulled up at the island, in a likely gap in the trees, with the GPS showing 2m but could not see the cache. Then I noticed another gap in the vegetation so manoeuvred out and back into the next spot. This time I saw the cache easily. Good camo. Quickly signed the log and replaced the cache as found, with a little extra camo to hide it well. The cache is in good condition. Thanks PoleCat S for the fun cache and an excuse to go for a good paddle up and down Albert Park lake.
Enjoyed splashing about with Team 1 (lobster6 7 and raffa27815) to retrieve this one.
It's that time of the year that the Melbourne weather transitions from uncomfortably cold to uncomfortably hot, ideal conditions to get out on the lake and attempt this cache. I was here 2 weekends ago in a paddleboat, it was a bit awkward trying to get around the tree branches. I was also confused by the comment that the cache is only 4-5 metres from the birds nest, it's further than that and in the trees.
I came back and hired a single person kayak, another great day and it was very easy to get at the cache this time. It was the first time I'd been in a kayak since I was young, lots of fun

Having just purchase a ex-rental Point65°N Tequila double kayak from the Carnegie Anaconda store closing down sale, the girlfriend and I couldn't wait to get down to Albert Park Lake and test it out on the water. Some walking event was occuring around the lake, so the hardest part was getting the kayak to the water. Once in the water our teamwork needed work as we zig-zagged the full length of the lake to get to Gunn Island. Once there the GF spotted what she called and egg and we signed the log after having this cache a thorn in my side for so long. Now we have the bug for water caches, we'll be picking up a few more in the area shortly. Thanks PoleCatS for a nice paddle on the lake today.
Found with Ohbeeone at 5pm. Usually do duty at the APYC so was out in duck. Forgot to log this one at the time. TNLN tftc.
Found today with Penndragon at 5.00pm after sailing.
second time i have visited this cache, previously in old location. It is easy for us as we sail all year round. TNLN TFTC.

Really enjoyable day out on the water, it is $20 an hour per kayak at the boat shed which is right near gunn island, and the cache it self it not near the goose nests it is about 4-5 meters away from them, nice easy find once in the area, my dad and i really enjoyed ourselves
Looking to find my first 5 Terrain in a city that i have never been to before has a very exciting concept. We had nothing to do so we travelled from the Melbourne CBD to Albert Park and hired a paddle boat. Excitement was building up in me as the thought of boasting a 5 Terrain find to my experienced geocaching friend continuously nagged at my mind. We arrived at Gunn island and got next to GZ to discover a Swan (i think) sitting on it's nest. It made threatening noises as we came close. I starting freaking out a bit before scanning the shore for a container. Suddenly the swan stood up to reveal several eggs it was taking care of. Wow! I was genuinely stunned for a moment before realising to abandon the search for the cache. Oh Well! So close yet so far. TFTH Polecat, i really enjoyed the paddleboat ride and hope to get the cache next time i am back in Melbourne. Well at least i visited Albert Park and Gunn Island...
What a nice day for a paddle and to do a couple of canoe caches, after a quick find across the road we unloaded the two canoes cathylmorgan and i paddled one and the Co and his wife Vicki in the other after a quick paddle on flat water out to GZ with polecatS watching on we soon had cache in hand signed log and passsed to Polecat who swapped cache with a new improved one, he is hoping the cammo will stay on a bit longer this time, TFTC Polecat S this is what caching is all about getting out into new areas and doing stuff you wouldnt normally do, Quality caching
Find 2 of 6 on a canoe-caching run with Polecat, Daryllm123 and Vicki. Had a lovely paddle across to the island and then cruised the bank a couple of times getting covered in tree debris and needles! Found a short time later. Great camoflagued container and a new experience - my first cache found from a canoe! Thanks for the caching fun Polecat!
Thanks PoleCat S for my first T5 and even more my first kayak experience. The calm weather helped to get to GZ. But there I searched for almost 30 minutes and the rental period run out. A last look before giving up...oh, there it is, at a place where I have searched already. The upper camouflage is not fixed anymore. At the end his helped me to spot it.

Started this trek a few weeks ago when I noticed a 2/5 cache in Melbourne. My wife had a conference on, so I decided to tag along. Went down to the lake on Friday and the hire shop was closed. Came back Saturday at 9am and they weren't hiring until 11am. Sigh. Came back today and hired a kayak. Told the operator I may only be 30 minutes but could be up to an hour and would pay the difference when I returned.
Only took 5-10 minutes to get to GZ, but after 40 minutes of searching I had to give up and return to shore. I had read previous logs and the hint, but this one got the better of me.
The poor old kayak was covered in dead sticks from the overhanging trees as was I. I trolled back and forward along the bank probably 5-6 times thinking about the hint.
The swans were lined up keeping a very close eye on what I was doing.
Disappointing, had never found a 2/5 before. I'll get over it and put it on my watch list for a while.
Such a beautiful day on the lake today, it was a shame I couldn't make the most of it.
Thanks

I replaced the log as promised. All previous logs have been copied onto the new log.
My sources at Albert Park tell me that the cache was below the water line after the recent rain and flash flooding. I'm happy that it survived as well as it did. [^]

What an epic. I thought the 5 star rating was a bit of a stretch, but after the experience I had, I really earned this one. Wind was blowing hard and the water chopped up rough - threw the kayak around like mad, almost capsized 3 times. Got to GZ, snatched the cache, which came apart in my hands! Top camo is unglued - I replaced it best I could in the rough water. Writing in the log was almost impossible in the chop - next finder will see the dodgey scribble. Logbook dry and secure, interior of cache dry and good. Took photo to prove the find and then got out of there!!!! Don't try this one unless its calm weather.

It is so exciting to see all the interest in this cache on the weekend. I wish I could have been there.
I'll try to get to the cache next weekend to fix up the log. Sounds like I'll have to replace it. If so, I will write all your names in the new log.
Glad you all had so much fun.

Today we attended the Friendly Floatees event. After signing the event we headed for the jetty to be told had we
logged this cache...Doh!. Back out for another paddle and in no time we arrived at the island.
The cache was sighted easily and after some nautical maneuvers that would do the QE2 proud we were able to retrieve the
cache and log the find. The cache page felt as though it had taken a swim and thanks to the help of C@H we were able to write
on the cache log.

This would have to one of the easyst Terrin 5 Caches & one of the most fun Caches types to do.
After Chatting with Jimmymaf & Oakydog JimmyMaf decided we better head out to log the event cache but on the way out we found out that the logbook had headed back to shore so we then decided that we would takle this one whilst we were out here but neather one of us had bought out our GPSr's so we had a bit of a look around & when we could not find it we decided to have a bit of a pabble around some more when we caught up with some other cachers that were heading to this cache & yeah they had there GPSr with them so there was a return trip made to find it witha group assalt.
The log book was soaked to the point that it made it hard to write on the logbook but we did leave som sort of mark on the logbook.

Yeah this was a fun cache alright. After standing around talking for too long, when Rigger64 and I finally headed out to hunt down the Friendly Floatees cache apparently it had headed back to shore. "Let's get the one on the island"says Rigger. Head over to said island and then ask "Where abouts" Neither of us had our gps so that was pretty lame. Waited for more searchers to head over and a group find was called. It was a bit of a laugh watching the big 3 seater trying to get in close to GZ. Well done guys. A great way to spend a Saturday arvo. TNLN Don't think much of a mark was left on the log as it was a bit soggy. TFTH
Find # 3290 and 15th of the day, Accompanied by Feathertop during the "Friendly Foatees Event". We had a great time getting this with my rubber dingy. sory for the late log, Thanx PoleCat S...
Found with C@H and Mr. Coffee and co.. Easy find since Mr. Coffee had already done the hard work.. Thanks PoleCat S for another wonderful hide..
Spladem and I found My Coffee with cache in hand as we approach this one. It made our life easy since we had a working pen. TFTC

Yahoo, after a quick dunking in Albert Park Lake I was frantically paddling to the Island.
Trying to canoe for the first time, avoiding Yachts and trying to keep up with other caches was certainly fun.
A queue quickly formed at the cache and before long I signed what was a rather soaked log.
An enjoyable cache and paddle.

Headed out with THE BOUNTY TRACKERS, 3 adults in a canoe is not the best idea but it did get us out to sign the log and back.We took on a bit of water as we were so close to the water line but survived. I thought this cache was clever, well done! Had to dodge the sailing club boats on the way back to shore but we all managed to stay afloat (just).

We got to this one on the way to the event cache in the middle of the Albert Park lake. A bit rough on the water today, but geodaughter an myself had fun. Thanks PoleCat S. TFTH...SL....TNLN
Found with Pau Pau & co and lauruker on day great event day on the lake sl tftc
Found with Muzza in a co-ordinated hunt for this one. Nicely camoed but the log book was wet. A good day to be paddling on the lake. Thanks PoleCat S for the cache.
Found by The Empire @ 11:15am with pocketrocket&friends
Once pocketrocket had worked out where to park for this one, we got into our kayaks and were on our way. The water was a little choppy and kept splashing up and getting into the kayak, this sucked. I was sitting in a puddle for most of the way. pocketrocket was paddling a bright pink one which was pretty funny as it's not her favourite colour! This was the only time I wished I had spend the extra $100 on the Oregon 550 and not the 450 as it has a camera. I wasn't keen on taking my digi out in the lake and lucky I didn't as there was a certain splash factor. I overshot the cache and pocketrocket made the find while I wheeled around for another go. I came up along side her and signed the log while keeping still in my kayak by leaning my head against a tree! We did a lap of the island before heading back into the shore and didn't fall into the water whilst getting out, which is great! Thanks for the cache PoleCat S, a difficult terrain rating but the necessary items nearby to allow everybody to access it. This is great for the non-boating cachers out there, another cache to get one of my favourite points!

Found by PR&F on 28/1/11 @ 11.15am with The Empire.
We hired the equipment required and made our way. Located the cache quickly and had time to spare before we needed to return.
This is the first cache of this type I have found and I have thoroughly enjoyed it! Perfect weather we had also!

We've been living near the lake for 6 years and never been out on a paddle boat. Today we fixed that! Thanks for bringing us out on the lake.
Took my lovely wife for a romantic paddle on Albert Park Lake, fed her chocolate dipped strawberries I made this morning and finished the visit off finding this clever cache.
Very clever and a great one to find. Found Kazza's Four Elements Geocoin 4exnfg - what a beautiful coin. Had a picnic with arrjimlad chocolate dipped strawberries on the northern part of the island - very romantic
We had both suffered dnfs on Gunn Island so PrincessDiala and I teamed up before the event to tackle this cache together. Philipp offered to come along too, just in case we’d struggle to find it again.
And here’s the story which most people already heard at the event: While we were waiting at the jetty I had a quick go in Philipp's cayak which was fine until I wanted to get back on shore.
a) I didn’t think the boatramp would be so slippery and b) I didn’t know the boatramp was that short and the lake that deep at the end of the boatramp. One step and I went under, capsizing the boat. [B)]
It all happened so quickly that there is a fair chance not many people noticed.
Counting the damage:
The cayak has a plug, no problems.
p-boro and the gps didn’t mind the dip at all.
The camera had been on strike all morning and unfortunately could not be revived by the water.
The mobile went dead, bar one last cracking sizzle – but 24hours later it’s fine again.
Phew, could have been worse!
(I just realise, none of this would have happened if PrincessDiala had been on time, which she would have been if her gps had worked. So can I blame it on garmin?)
About the cache: of course we found it within seconds. The camouflage is really good, depending on the angle at which the cache is replaced.
So go ahead and do it. It’s FUN

YAY!! This cache hasn't gotten the better of me!
I paired up with p-boro to share the cost of hiring a two person kayak.
I'm really glad it was moved from the old location - I now realise I was searching on the wrong side of the stabby palm for the most part [xx(], I somehow got tangled in there and couldn't get out. By the time I started searching the other side, my spirit was already speared!
I can also report I didn't fall in too..
I wonder what the hiring guy was thinking when we returned it after only 15 minutes! Haha
This cache seemed an appropriate place to drop off Kazza's Four Elements Geocoin and I swapped pathtags.
Thanks PoleCat S - now to work out how I can get the other two boat caches...

I think this is the first time I had to wear a life vest on a pedalo.
We hired two boats, went round the island, had fun - but didn 't find the cache at the new coordinates. I know it says anything bigger than a canoe can't come close enough, but we certainly did, touched the shore. Not sure if the camouflage is too clever or the sun was too bright. Certainly a disappointment and an expensive dnf.
Maybe next year....

After reading the logs for this cache my understanding is that if a cache can only be reached by canoe or kayak then it should be a terrain five!
...... and if you've been skewered by the palm spikes it should be counted as a Terrain 6 !
This would have to be the easiest 5 Stars I’ve ever earned What would you give a Cache on a White water river[?]
After finding "hidden cave of the dragon masters " with 3up and now that I am an olympian kayaker we had a go at this cache , we speed out to gz ( even though a couple of duck passed us ) alllright paddle / wobbled out there to stab around to look for the prize .we were even asked by International Search and Rescue - Lady Penelope and Virgil from the sailing club if we were ok .
but after persisting the prize was won signed and a couple of photos taken.
thanks to PoleCat S for this cache
To future finders - it would be wise to wear safety or sun glasses and leather gloves as there is serious spikes at GZ and were were both spiked in the hands .

Hey Princess, it was a nice sunny work day but we didn't see you out there, but we think we saw your blood or was that ours. Ouch, !!#$@**^@#@! ouch. Those things hurt. Took a little longer to find than we expected but find it we did. A quick sign and we were out of there. We lived to fight another day. Thanks for the exciting cache

So...
This adventure started out last week when I was talking with a mate at work about geocaching.
He thought it was a great idea of something to do and mentioned that it would be cool to hide one on an island that you had to reach by boat.
Funny that one was published not too long ago some 3km's as the crow flies from our work!!
So after a couple of days off from work (I work far too hard and have accrued HEAPS of extra time) I arrive to find out that he's brought in his kayak (yesterday).
I was all excited until I remembered I didn't have my gpsr with me!
Well we'll just have to postpone it until tomorrow (today).
So I came to work (semi)prepared for an after-work kayak to reach this cache.
Looking at his iPhone weather app, the forecast of thunderstorms in this afternoon, our plans changed to go and have a l-o-n-g lunch break (lucky to have a flexible work) to attempt this.
Well... First time I've been in a kayak.. in like years! (At least 10!)
Off to a wibbly-wobbly start, but I soon made it over to GZ.
Damn, left my phone in the car - what if I get stuck - too bad!
Prickled.. Lots!.. I saw my own blood on one of those spikes.
Wet.
Stoopid spikes. Get. Out. Of. My. Road.
Wetter.
Lets try a different angle.
Hmm..
GPSr dies! (Story of my life! You'd think I'd learn by now... It had two bars on shore. I wasn't out there THAT long was I?!)
More spikes.
*Sigh*
.....
I'll be back soon, the next sunny work day! This wont beat me!

While chauffeuring a bunch of teens to a concert decided to have a go at this cache before I had to pick them up
The unloading of kayak and paddling over to GZ took no time at all. The search for the well camoed cache took much longer eventually found in the third spot searched
Came equipped with welding gloves and heavy jacket but still managed to prick my self a few times as I ducked and weaved in search of the cache.
All up this was a fun cache on a perfect evening for a paddle
Thx PoleCat S for the caching fun
Note:- log is a bit damp and may need a bit of TLC soon

I'll just take it as a compliment btw I wasn't after the FTF (not my cup of tea) I was just bored. I also found a pic of the boat - they camera died 20 min after taking it.

Today the ssmc4 family headed off to Albert Park for a bit of adventure. When we got there the three girls set off for a lap of the lake (mum & eldest daughter running and youngest daughter riding) whilst dad jumped into the sea kayak and paddled over to the island, dodging little tackers in sailing boats who were out having a race. It was a bit tricky getting a 5.2m kayak in close enough for a good look and I couldn't spot the camo'ed cache. So after 15 minutes or so I paddled south to meet up with the girls and accompanied them for the rest of their lap around the lake.
Once they'd completed their lap, eldest daughter hopped into the big hatch in the back of the kayak and we went out for another look. She spotted the cache, so I backed the kayak in close enough for her to reach it which she did without anybody getting wet (she did get jabbed with a palm spike though). I was amazed to hear that it had been found three times already (I hadn't logged on to the PC this morning).
I had thought about placing a cache on this island before but then gave up on the idea as it would require people landing on this nature reserve. PoleCat S neatly got around this restriction, although future finders will not find this one a doddle.
When I got back home and read the previous finders' logs I was gob-smacked at Philipp's efforts - heading out on the lake in the middle of a rainy, stormy night in a $20 blow-up dinghy bought from a Kwiki-Mart. That man definitely deserves a FTF ! (Either very gutsy or totally mental.................... )
Well done PoleCat S for creating a challenging and adventurous cache that has obviously got a heap of cachers intrigued, excited and motivated. We really enjoyed our 9th "cache find by kayak" - many thanks for your efforts.

On a wet and raining day was asked if l would like to go caching. We got to GZ and unloaded the canoe. We board the canoe, five people to much so we did it in two trips. We got to the real GZ found the cache. we were all very wet, but enjoyed the find. attendees StreetO,Mr_X_02, Top That. TFTC
Found @ 12.15pm. #504.
Notied this one in the E-mails this morning and thought about it, but being such a terrible day we didn't get to excited, after a couple of hours we decided to load up the kayak and go for a drive. When we arrived at the lake, the rain had stopped so we grabbed the kayak and placed it into the water and went for a tour around Gunn Island stopping at the cache half way around, it didn't take to long to locate the cache, pulled out the log hoping to find a blank one, but i'm sure there was already something on it, making us STF and that would make Srubacrazy666 TTF, but we would be happy to claim FTF.
Thanks to Polecat S for this cache with a difference.

Found it @ approx 15:30
Saw this one when I hit the "newest in vic link", and thought to myself, "Self, The weather is just nasty enough that no-one will be out 2day" , so off we went.
Not having a kayak of my own, I hired one.
(Kayaks can be hired from the ever helpful & totally understanding staff @ "The Boatshed", single man $15/Hr, Double $20/Hr)
Just a note: if you take this option, you will need to park on the opposite side of the lake from the parking co-ords indicated.
Whle I was hoping to try for a FTF, someone beat me to the punch. (Log was signed @ 12:15)
But, I'm still happy with a STF.
While I was careful not to damage "the delicate Fauna" on the island, I can't say that the fauna was as gentle with me. (Bloody Palm Spikes).
Found it in the end, a bit bloody, very wet, but none the worse for wear, I happily paddled back to the shore.
Thanks for the hunt.
OK, make that TTF, damn phil, your keen mate, well done.

Friday night. Nothing to do and Martina won't be here before the next morning. Why not going for this cache? Because
- it's raining
- it's pouring
- it's dark
- the cache is in a gray area of the park
- I don't have a boat
Bummer? Not really The first four points could be ignored and the last one got fixed by a visit to one of the 24h stores. By the time I reached the car park it was already 00:30. A felt eternity later the rubber boat was inflated and ready to go - the electric pump took a while due to the tiny valve. During preparation the rain eased a bit but as soon as I hit the water it started again :bad: Having placed a real mean water-nightcache http://coord.info/GCK8J6 that felt like home although the boat didn't keep me from getting wet.
As soon as I reached GZ and read the hint I thought "Oh boy - that doesn't work" [red]Don't attempt this cache with a rubber boat unless you are willing to hop into the waist-deep water. You are not allowed to step onto the island and you won't get to the cache from the dry side anyway.[/red]. If you try to get to GZ with a rubber boat you will get punctures by the palm spikes. It's really a mean place for a cache since a few metres away there would be hiding spots without spikes. So I stepped into the water, found the cache, logged it, replaced it and started my way back to the car. Then I realised that despite the effort of avoiding it I did puncture the boat Bummer. It did hold me and I didn't have to swim however for $20 it wasn't worth fixing it. So I returned it the next day and when the clerk asked me why I said it had a puncture - I wasn't even lying :bad:
Altogether a nice cache except for the hiding place with a lot of palm spikes.
